wow, thats a high quality rig build video! really love your visual style with your VO + background music. Felt very honest and you really showed all parts in detail. Keep it up!
Not gonna lie it kinda bugs me all of these youtubers with top tier rigs when they're spending most of the time on their desks. Not saying this is the case, but most of the time these guys are just pumping gear down our throats :( Gear reviews really have to change
You know, I actually agree with you. I've honestly been feeling the same way, not just with other peoples content but absolutely my own. Fortunately, TH-cam is not my full time job and my main source of income IS making videos, just for other people. I'm not out shooting music videos, high end commercials or feature films with my camera rig. In fact a majority of my paid video work is creating social media content for OTHER people. Which puts me in an interesting position, unlike other full-time creators, to not rely on sponsorships or paid reviews in order to support my channel. Don't get me wrong I LOVE reviewing camera gear and would love it if my TH-cam channel was my full-time gig, but something definitely needs to change... in fact its going to! 👏
honestly its a good time to be alive that we have all these TH-camrs making these reviews but you can decide for yourself what to get and what not to get. I think it's the fault of yourself if you go out and buy every single piece of kit and gear TH-camrs push at you. You have to decide whats worth it for you and what is not. For example, how much TH-camrs pushed down my throat the FX3 and full-frame is king. I have always shot on APSC and im on the FX30 and I have yet to ever see a legitimate reason to get a whole new camera - simply because its full frame. Side by side, the image is the same. Anytime a TH-camr wants to keep telling me full frame is the end all be all, I tune out. Its not. Ive made that decision on my own through actual personal experience.
Love the rig! A word of caution to the dummy battery - couple of folks have bricked their systems. Safer to use USB PD from a power bank or small rig v mount!
Totally valid! There is always a risk when using dummy batteries, that’s why I HIGHLY recommend the Kondor Blue cable. Its a very high end cable that has been tested over and over again, BUT if you don’t want to have any chance then I totally agree to use the USB-C port to power the camera.
Many current (pun intended!) V-Mount Batteries have USB-C PD outputs - that is what they are designed for - so no-def does not harm the V-Mount battery. At least for the Sony FX30 the USB-C PD input in the camera not only runs the camera but charges the battery you have installed - so if you ever need the rig stripped down for discreet run-n-gun you are charged and ready to go as well. Win/win. I also use the other V-Mount battery output to run my monitor. @@unlockthepicture
@MuttHouseMedia Nearly identical to be honest! I like it for the silver color and that’s really it! The rest of it is just like the SmallRig or the Tilta! 👌
This is a excellent cage. I have it for my FX 30 I previously had the small rig. People are better off saving their money going with this one also the Neewer the. Mount batteries are the way to go. They’re like half the price of the small rig actually show you the energy output of every port. They have real slick Quick release V mount plates also.
@@brentonchong6694 that’s a good question! I shoot a lot of stuff with this setup! I’ve done music videos, commercials, weddings and short narratives all with this rig. I also have an RS4 and I use that on occasion, but I really love the look of handheld shots and this rig gives me a little more weight to control those handheld movements! As well as the flexibility to work with wireless follow focus on a set, longer battery life and the use of 4x5 filters

It’s the Peter McKinnon multi-tool and to be honest it is WAAAYYY overpriced 😂 I gotta it when I was at a trade show and met Peter, it’s like $125 USD I’d recommend the Multi-Tool that Smallrig just came out with or just a basic multitool that you should be able to find on Amazon!
It’s the Peter McKinnon multi tool but DONT BUY IT 😂 it is crazy overpriced! In my opinion. SmallRig makes a couple that are just as good for like $15 - $30 USD
what's the reason behind not just mounting v mount plate on rails but buying a seperate system? Doesnt it take away lot of flexibility as far as distance is concerned? As with rails, you can mount battery plate further away from screen and also this provides you with an opportunity to buy a plate with bunch of d-taps and ports?
The reason is really behind allowing use of a V-mount without the rails. This entire system could be run, with an AF lens, without rails. Otherwise, I am completely on your side that an actual v-mount plate would allow for more power options and flexibility. Not against it, just didn't do it in this build. 😄
