    Have been using this lens for a few months now. I still can't believe how sharp it is for a zoom. It really is as pin sharp as a prime in many of my photos. Friends who have seen the photos just did not believe me when I informed them they were taken on a zoom. It really is that good.

      For not even more then two weeks, i bought this "extraordinary" lens for my faithfull A6000, I love the superb quality. I was ready tho buy the Sony in the same range, but I do only photos, son I Didn't need a stabilisation and no need to get the steady f2.8 for video and almoste the same optical result in photos. But, Curtis you convince me to upgrade my Sony A6000 to get the Sony A6400. Yes I like the Sigma lenses, I have the old 60mm, the 19mm, the 30mm f1.4 All of them are great, great optical quality.
      With my Sigma 60mm I've done many very clean pictures at 1/25sec, as long I don't drink more the 12 coffee before the shooting! 😂

    I use it on my A7C, and its my favourite walk around lens. Good fast focus, amazing photos and videos. Lack of OSS is not a problem if you have any of the newer Sonys that has gyro data. Catalyst browser does wonder with stabilizing, its almost gimbal-like. The only thing i dont like about this lens is that the zoom ring sits on the outside, i would prefer it to be on the closer side to the camera body. F2.8 is more than enough for any general kind of use.

    I had tried the Sigma, and it is compact and light, but ended up settling on the Tamron 17-70mm. For the bit extra size and weight, the tick more on wide and good amount more on zoom makes it the most versatile lens in it’s class. I personally prefer faster primes, but if I could have just one lens to shoot almost everything with, the Tamron takes it.
    Like the Sigmas though, wish it had OS.

      The size of this lens is awesome over the Tamron! That being said, each MM on the wide end is a bigger change than it would be on the tele, so the 17 vs 18 is actually helpful sometimes. Also, with an APSc sensor any extra background separation is helpful, so the extra 20mm on the tele end are super useful for more striking portraiture. Just food for thought as someone who has tried both and for the life of me can't pick which is overall better. I think though their focal lengths/apertures are similar, they really fill different niches!

      @@CurtisPadley can you have low light decent shots with max ISO set to 6400? I recently took some portraits on the street in low light with my Sigma 30 f/1.4, I used the following settings: f/2.0 - ISO 6400 - 1/80, and since I wanted to buy the 18-50 instead of this one, this concern popped into mind while I was shooting. maybe the shots would have not looked as sharp at f/2.8 aperture. Can you do a 85mm street photography POV without taking any pictures in portrait. Man it's challenging to find good shots in landscape 😢

    • @CurtisPadley
      @CurtisPadley  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hiya, I don't just shoot in landscape or portrait. I do a mixture. Cause it depends on the setting and moment. Somtimes shots work better in landscape, other times the opposite.
