Ok, yeah no now that we have more confirmation on this yeah it sucks. I don’t care about something looking a bit worse in a remaster if it’s just the occasional thing in a level, But this is the main characters model, so I have an issue with this because it’s something you’re going to be looking at for 98% of the game, therefore I think it’s important that it looks the best it can. I’m still hoping they go back on it because the fur looked much better originally and I don’t think it would be that hard to do considering the textures are already there. I’m only as critical of this as I am because I played the Wii version as a kid and loved it, so I was naturally very excited when I saw this remaster. I complain about Splatoon 3s flaws a whole lot but I still have over 2000 hours on the game lol But yeah I hope they fix it, but even then it’s not a deal breaker for me. Just a minor annoyance
I can't believe they decided to use AI of all things to remaster this game, that's jut plain disrespectful to previous devs who worked hard to make both versions. I get there's some rush there and there to release it before the Switch loses priority, but don't release it at all if you can't meet the deadline. Sticking to the 3DS version honestly.
It doesn't look like the fur is missing, there's definitely some fuzziness around him. His fur also looks better textured imo. My only issue is where the fur ends around his wrists, it appears more evenly cut rather than it being strands of fur which are more noticeable in the pre rendered cutscene.
This is VERY strange indeed. Maybe the Switch 2 really is going to have upscaled versions of recently released Switch games and we're seeing some sort of confusion between two versions of DKCR HD? I see no reason why the Switch 1 can't make a better looking version of a Wii game, but for now I'm going to assume we're seeing some weird complications between the Switch 1 version and Switch 2 version of this game.
The remaster still looks a lot better than the Wii original despite its flaws. Maybe not on a smartphone screen, but definitely on a big TV. Those minor downgrades are weird for sure, but you won't notice most of it when playing the game. You'll definitely notice the jump from SD to HD though all the time and not having to shake the Wii mote for running is long overdue.
Thank you for reporting this, and not keeping quiet like the pro-Nintendo TH-cam channels do. It is shameful that these developers are not able to maintain the graphical quality of a 15 year old game running on an infinitely inferior hardware, such as the Wii. Despite my avatar I'm a Nintendo fan, I have all their consoles from the Nintendo 64. I was thinking of buying this game even if I already have several versions, but if there is a graphic downgrade I won't buy it.
No way I'm paying 60 bucks for this, I'll just boot up my Wii instead. I'm seeing a 30,- upgrade here at most. And if you own the original or DS version, 20,-. It's actually pretty shameful considering DKC at Universal just opened (actually based on THIS game btw) and they're seemingly trying to push DK to the forefront again. A remaster of this kind with so many downgrades, and even downgrades compared to the first remaster trailer, is a no go for me. This game should have gotten a significant graphical upgrade with a couple of tricks here and there + a great lighting upgrade, that pushed it a bit closer towards Tropical Freeze. And if the source files for the cutscenes are still around, they should have remastered those as well. This is a far cry from what was done with Wind Waker HD or Metroid Prime Remastered.
This game is gonna be the Bowser’s Inside Story for the Switch because when BIS was announced for the 3DS it was like what was the point when the DS original was still compatible and this port of Returns makes no sense when Tropical Freeze is the better game and has all the issues fixed from Returns
I think you haven't realized this isn't a port of the Wii version. It's a port of the 3DS version. My guess is that if they wanted to preserve the 3DS content, it would've been easier to port over those assets rather than going into the code of the Wii version and rebuilding that 3DS content from scratch. Hence why the fur and the water effects are one to one with the 3DS game.

So is this a port of the Wii version or the 3DS version?
What about the 3DS version?
Not getting the game
Footage with fur is from Switch 2 obv /s
I can't believe they decided to use AI of all things to remaster this game, that's jut plain disrespectful to previous devs who worked hard to make both versions. I get there's some rush there and there to release it before the Switch loses priority, but don't release it at all if you can't meet the deadline. Sticking to the 3DS version honestly.
Don't be surprised if this game tanks next month.
I see no reason why the Switch 1 can't make a better looking version of a Wii game, but for now I'm going to assume we're seeing some weird complications between the Switch 1 version and Switch 2 version of this game.
doubtful. Fur of older games cannot be rendered on the GPU. If there is really hardware bc this means Switch "2" wont be much faster.
Rather have this than a planet robobot remake due to not wanting the kirby series to have 2 2d remakes in a row instead of a brand new 3d game
This is why I use emulation LOL
The remaster still looks a lot better than the Wii original despite its flaws. Maybe not on a smartphone screen, but definitely on a big TV. Those minor downgrades are weird for sure, but you won't notice most of it when playing the game. You'll definitely notice the jump from SD to HD though all the time and not having to shake the Wii mote for running is long overdue.
Pre order cancelled.
Is that 3ds port's Hd port?
im still getting it just because it has the better framerate of wii but the extra content and better controls of 3ds
U do realise the 3ds version also has these things?
The water effects people keep talking about are nonexistent in the 3DS version
Hey Andre, I noticed you forgot this video of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD.
This one contained some new gameplay footage of the remaster but some old ones. I am unsure if you were aware of this video.

Edit: Am I the only one of that Member's eyes of the Tiki Tak Tribe looks off?
I was not! Thanks for letting me know!
@@GameXplainYou're welcome. I'll have to reach out to you in case more new footage before release day occurs beforehand.
I don't know why they think we won't notice differences especially when they are NOT better. It's very off-putting!
I’m thinking performance wasn’t up to standard with the DK fur, so they removed it.
It feels like they are trying to remaster these games with minimum effort and selling them at $60.
Maybye they removed some scenes of the intro or maybe it was the same intro that we saw at the Nintendo direct or they haven’t finished the complete intro but they showed some scenes but the only way to find out what changed is playing Donkey Kong country returns hd😊😊😊😊
I’m just gonna stick to the Wii version at this point. Just compare this to the re-release of Tropical Freeze - night and day.
Am I the only one that thinks It actually looks really good?
LOCK this person up!

Nah I think it looks pretty good too. I can barely see some of the issues mentioned and even the ones I can see aren’t that big a deal imo.
Im sorry but it really looks the same. Most players would never notice the difference if you didn’t do a side by side, I get the point that if they are gonna rerelease a game it should look better, but I’m just glad people are gonna get to experience dk wii who didn’t grow up with it
Should be much less money for this kind of quality, though.
Even the wii looks way better with the shinny furr
Isn’t this the 3DS version of game that got upscale without updating the models and textures
Yup
@@Themasktrooper they have though what do you mean? The textures here do not look pixelated, Donkey and Diddy now have realistic fur textures(despite the current build using a less detailed one compared to the reveal trailer), the lighting has been changed and is brighter compared to how dark the 3DS version is.
You can call out the flaws like the fur getting downgraded in later builds or visual issues but why are you straight up lying?
"HD" does not mean remaster/remake.
@Retrblu this is literally looks like the 3DS version upscale without any changes like Luigi Mansion 2 is just the 3DS version all they did is change Luigi’s model call it a day
@Themasktrooper are you blind or something? The game is much brighter, Donkey and Diddy have proper fur details,a lot of background elements have been given details they never had even in the Wii version and new effects have been added.
The only thing that hasn't been significantly improved is the water in some areas for who knows what reason.
They probably changed it so they don't have to give him the fur in the prerendered cutscenes, which would be a whole rerender.
Pretty sucky.
Another Wii game 😀
I don't think the fur downgrade is that big of a deal
I love Donkey Kong country it's my favorite game of all time but of course my favorite is tropical Freeze but I'm happy Donkey Kong country returns HD is coming to the Nintendo switch because I not really a fan of the original Wii always have to shake the Wii remote I only beat the game in 2010 and 2016 but never collected everything because the Wii remote made it hard in the game and of course never played the 3DS version so it's going to be all new to me and it's been a long time since I played the Wii version so don't mind coughing up $60 to get away better experience on the switch using a switch Pro Controller but other people's opinion who played the 3DS version and collected everything and enjoyed it on the original Wii and the price being too high on the switch I can understand their frustration
At least they show the game as it’s supposed to be. Not like PlayStation with some "gameplay" trailers
This isn't about Playstation.
@@robertl.wilson1199 don’t get me wrong I like some ps games. It was just an example
Would it be better, if they just Port the Model of DK (and the other Characters) from Tropical Frezze...? 😅
Whoever is doing this port is doing a terrible job. It really does seem like a last minute port job because of Nintendo having to delay the Switch 2
If you have a Wii or Wii U, the Wii version is 20$. The fact the Switch version is triple the price and I struggle to tell the difference without seeing them side by side is a bit sad.
DON'T BE SAD!!!
How do they keep messing this up further lol
