Thank you. As someone who is very passionate about animated cinematography, I appreciate so much the stuff you said at the end of the video. People stop at mainstream stuff and miss the greatest creatives of the industry, and it takes a lot of guts to admit that you might have been part of that process. Props to you for doing your best to introduce your audience to new stuff.
I always get confused when people say it's been a bad year for (insert media). A lot of people don't realize or appreciate there is so much content out there, if you are willing to look outside of the mainstream
Tamatoa is so much more associated with Schaffrillas Productions than Moana that when I looked at the thumbnail, my immediate thought when seeing the crab was that he was representing James in some way, not... you know, the actual character from the movie which is the subject of the video. What has society become?
Considering the film was originally meant to be a show, it makes sense they'd want to tease the villain throughout before showing him in preparation for the second season.
I feel the same way. The design of him and his implementation just screams "I'm the villain revealed halfway through season 1." I think the end credits scene was used just because they've learned how useful they were when the MCU was in its prime
As someone who doesn’t have as much exposure to obscure or underrated animation, please talk more about them! Even though mainstream animation gets more views, I think the issue of animation right now is that too many people (me included) don’t know what else there is to offer.
I'm looking forward to seeing how far you'll go. I've noticed more passion behind your musical and video game reviews, and I'm happy you're shifting a little more towards the topics you love most, I also appreciate that you're going to start recommending lesser known animated stuff. I don't have almost anything in common with Schaffs, but to see how much his channel grows, changes and matures, to learn so much and feel so much here makes me as happy as seeing an old friend. It's genuinely great to see him strive for a good impact on the community, and we'll be here next year, hungry for more. Thank you schaffrillas

The upside of Moana 3 is that it’ll likely start production as a theatrical film and not a show. It was also recently stated that Jared Bush, the writer of both Moana movies, had the idea to turn the show into a sequel.
As a transgender woman myself, thank you so much for bringing up I Saw The TV Glow as a recommendation. I think stories like that are the most important they have ever been no matter how inaccessible they might feel to watch if you are not trans yourself. Myself and my girlfriend genuinely cried all night to the point where I had to stay at her house because of how affecting that movie was us in a year like this one where trans rights are completely on the backslide. I think that way more people, especially on the goddamn internet, need to be challenged with stories like that - family animation is amazing but it by design cannot challenge yourself to feel the feelings of something like that film. I was near hysterical. I was scared for an unseen future of fictional characters.
Not invalidating your general point, but I would watch out for "more important than they've ever been" statements, as they tend to downplay the post. For reference: see Fritz-Lang's works in the 1920s where he (a Jewish filmmaker) attempts to warn against the Nazis (M) and reckless industrial capitalism (Metropolis), to name just two examples that show that fiction that addresses what's happening now is not more important than fiction produced in the past.
@@arglebargle5531 I don't think she in any way meant that movies from the past never talked about important topics, simply that I Saw The TV Glow is a movie about a topic that's important now.
Based on his Letterboxd account and a few TH-cam videos, it's clear that Schaff is familiar with Cartoon Saloon. I think the only reason why he hasn't made a ranking is because they only have 6 movies, so it wouldn't be as interesting to see a list comparing them as, say, 9 to 12 movies.
@ yes it may be short but it will be worth it when he sees most of the cinematic master pieces they made. I say most because ik there is one that he will absolutely put in last place involving a dragon that is kinda annoying
Cartoon Saloon’s catalog is probably too small to make an entire ranking video out of. Maybe an entire video ranking every film published by GKIDS (excluding films from Studio Ghibli) would probably make for a more interesting ranking video. The reason I brought up GKIDS is because they published a few Cartoon Saloon films.
Schaff, your ranking of the best animated feature winners is the reason I first watched a Ghibli film. And then a few years later I watched them all and really began to understand that animation is bigger than the big American companies. At least for me, you helped open up the world of cinema! This is video is a great reflection on your channel. I share the sentiment about finally letting these big american companies go and focusing our attention on smaller indie animation!!
as someone who’s very passionate abt animation, I’m glad to hear recommendations about lesser known animated films. It seems like animation nowadays is directed mostly for young audiences and people don’t recognize it as a medium. I’m also really excited to hear your further thoughts on other films and movies! I love listening to your thoughts abt video games, and your pikmin deep dives are what got me into the series! :-)
I actually think adult animation is more mainstream than ever. Look at Arcane and Invincible, or even the Glitch indie shows f.e. That being said, the animation kid-slop def has a bit of the overhand, where the actual good movies are acknowledged but more financially more overlooked.
In regards to what you said in the second half of the video, I would literally LOVE more content on musical theatre and video games from you. I also know that a ton of animation lovers tend to be really passionate about indie animated stuff that isn’t as well known. Me personally, I would so much rather watch a video on a movie, show, or musical Ive never heard of before instead of another TH-camr complain about a very well known bad movie like Moana 2 or wish, cause then I can actually find something new to watch- and I feel like I’m not alone in this stance, cause isn’t that just what movie lovers do?? Tbh, I feel like in this situation, the fact that there are SO many well known TH-camrs who focus on mainstream animation might benefit you in trying to expand the thing you make videos about. Obviously, I understand you saying you can’t drop mainstream animation videos completely, but at the end of the day (and this goes for any TH-camr, really) i belive that if you make the kind of content that makes you happy, the right audience will come to you.
Schaff we love hearing you be passionate. More gaming and musical content. Make whatever your passionate about! We will always enjoy those and will keep giving attention to them! Also your desire to give non mainstream animation and movies some good attention..!
@@NQProductions Don't lose hope. This isn't the end of the world, and we are not powerless to prevent more coprorate soulless cash-grabs from being produced. Like Schaff said in the end, there are SO many colorful, artistic, and amazing projects coming out from studios and indie creators. For every terrible movie that comes out of a big budget company, I try to give some love to a smaller creator just to even out the animation-karma, so to speak. You should do the same! I think you'll feel a lot less hollow afterwards :)
Hey James, I would just want to tell you that I became a fan as a teen by watching your madagascar and other dreamworks videos and I unironically feel like I cinematically grew up with you. Your videos about your favorites of the year made me want to watch them and I eventually did. I got into cinema in a whole new way and I'm still discouvering new cinema now. Thank you for giving me this hobby that I love so much.
At least the MCU had plenty of content for scripwriters to lean on when writing multiple films per year, but Moana is a completely original property that is just going to need more time to develop these stories for. Don't get me wrong, I really like new ideas in film, but its significantly harder to develop a decent frachise from this
Not entirely. There are stories for Moana given that the first movie was a fantasized version of real events that happened in the Polynesian islands and also added in Polynesian folklore. But yeah it is harder to make a plot for them than it is for MCU films given that they only have what is essentially a very early rough draft to take inspiration from.
This reply will get lost among the sea but Schaff, I really gotta give you props for spending most of this video not thrashing Disney, but instead showin your goals to use your influence to try and get peopl to broaden their horizons.
"You think you're the only princess in the world? Moana, you've become part of a bigger set of universes. You just don't know it yet.” “Who are you?” “Belle, Director of D.I.S.N.E.Y. I'm here to talk to you about the Princess Protection Program”
More than happy to watch whatever content you want to do. I'd love to hear more about other movies, animation or games. Also omg PLEASE talk about the French film you had scenes from at the end of your video. I absolutely ADORE The Triplets of Belleville. It was shown on TV here in Canada pretty often when I was a teen and I really want more people to see it.
We really are entering an era where we primarily have to turn to smaller creators for meaningful art whether thats in music, film, games or whatever It simultaneously sucks to see the mainstream go down this path while also being great that so many smaller voices have platforms to spread their work
I don’t think this is true (except for animation). A Real Pain, an absolutely incredible movie mentioned in the video, was a Searchlight film - that’s Disney!
I'm here to say that I support you Schaff, I have listened to your reviews and rankings of animated movies, film director's discographys and Super Mario Galaxy stars not because I only care about thise topics, but because I respect and value your opinion. I've gotten incredible reccomendations from you, be it Ratatouille (a movie I forgot just how luch I loved it) or Whisper of the Heart (the first movie that made me cry in years). I even got back into theather after a breakup pushed me away from it years ago all because of your passion for theather as well. You may think what you've said has caused harm, but a lot of people respect your opinion for a reason, remember that. God bless Schaff, and may you make the most of this new route, love from Panama! 🇵🇦
Thank you for recommending even more movies! Because of your video earlier this year, i recently watched Hundreds of Beavers with my friends. It has quickly become one of our favorite movies in recent memory.
True. Almost no other animated movie in the history of Disney or Pixar has ended with a stinger for the next film, neither before or after the credits. Disney and Pixar post credits scenes are usually jokes, not stingers. The only exceptions being the movies like Stitch the Movie, which are pilots for TV series (much like Moana 2) and set the plot of their series in their last scene; and the only movie to have an actual post-credits stinger, which is Lightyear from 2022.
It's wild that Moana is being MCU'd when they have Kingdom Hearts at their fingertips. Though I guess it's a good thing that they're not dragging that one to the ground.
I’d assume it’s because the franchise is part owned by square and has tons of lore already which’d be way too complicated for new viewers who haven’t played the games.
I really appreciate you for coming out at the end of the video about your waning passion in mainstream animation. Personally, it would be a lot more interesting for you to dive into lesser known animations like the ones you mentioned, as well as indie animations like Amazing Digital Circus or Vivziepop, but really, do whatever your real passion is. While everyone needs a job to survive, real enjoyment never comes out of following what the algorithm wants you to follow. A TH-cam can keep biggering and biggering, but without real passion, they'll never go BEYOND. So go beyond.
I don't watch a lot of theather musicals 'cause where I live it doesn't really have a culture for it and very few shows come here on tour, but i LOVE to see people taking about them. I really liked your videos about musicals and it would be really nice to see you talking about more of them, specially 'cause I didn't really see other youtubers making videos on less mainstream theatrical musicals
Great video James! I like that you are planning to Trojan Horse some non-mainstream animation into your videos. Yeah, mainstream films can still be masterpieces that shouldn’t be ignored like Inside Out 2, Wild Robot, and Transformers One, but there’s many outside of that that should also be seen, like Robot Dreams, Look Back, Flow, and Memoir of a Snail (all of which are awesome and I am grateful to have had the ability to see most of them in theaters during college). You’re also not trying to shame those who mainly enjoy big studio animation, but trying to encourage them to give movies outside of that of shot. If some movies don’t appeal to them with their subject matter or story, that’s fine, but they may find at least one that does.
Tamatoa being one of the main villains of Moana 3 would give him more screen time than he had in the first, so that’s something that could be worth it.
I would totally watch an hour or two of Schaffrillas recommending underrated films. This man can talk about anything for 2 hours and make it feel like 10 minutes.
4:38 "A statement that the *brand* of Moana is more important than the *story* of Moana" You just put succinctly the feeling I've had from Disney movies for a decade now.
Some movies I recommend from this year: - A Different Man, by Aaron Schimberg - Juror No. 2, by Clint Eastwood - Sing Sing, by Greg Kwedar - Bird, by Andrea Arnold Goodnight, tri-state area.
I’m a child of the animation industry, my father worked at Pixar up until the recent layoffs. He’d wanted to get away from the studio for a while now, not anticipating to stay there for the 19 years he did. Now he’s making smaller projects and working on things he likes. Don’t spend your life working for something that will spit in your face, spend it doing something you love. Animation is such a colorful and diverse medium that deserves to be explored, finding works from people like my dad and movies mentioned in this video, and beyond. I’ll be waiting for your 2025 releases, hungry for more.
What is your dad's opinion about how Pixar treats it's employees nowadays? I imagine is pretty negative. Also cool that he has taken the layoff as an opportunity to get smaller but more artistic endeavors, I have seen many people who lose their way and never return to make the passionate things they did earlier in their career.
10:58 I 100% support this. Over the years, I have found a lot of good (and some even great) obscure animated films that sandly go under the radar or they are ignored because they're not mainstream enough. Not all of them are for kids but some examples are: - all of Catroon Saloon's films (I know they got Oscar nominations, which is a huge achievment, but I feel like people ignore them because they're not Disney/Dreamworks/etc.) - all of Satoshi Kon's films (I think Tokyo Godfathers is the only "kid-friendly" one) - Ernest et Célestine (2012, French-Belgium film) (same case as Catoon Saloon) - Mune: Le Gardien de la Lune (2014, French film) - A Monster in Paris (2011, French film) - Nocturna (2007, Spanish film) - Unicorn Wars.(2022, Spanish-French film) (not for kids) There's also the others that I haven't watchet (yet) but I heard they're pretty good: - Mad God (2021): a stop-motion American horror film.(not for kids) - Zarafa (2012, French-belgiam film)
I completely agree with Schaffrillas at the second act. I just finished Jentry Chau vs The Underworld which didn't get marketed at all. My friend recommanded it to me and blue eye samurai, but my addicition to dinosaurs and prehistoric animals always got me going "I'll get to it later." There's so much more to life to movies, shows, and stories you're use to. Go beyond, think about other projects, bigger or smaller. See how they can inspire you.
Jentry Chau was fucking amazing, and i havent seen a single TH-camr even talk about it. Netflix dumped it out and no one cares at all. its one of the best shows ive ever seen.
Most of the people on TH-cam i watch for them instead of what they're saying. I could watch Schaff talk about architecture, and I'd love it. Go ahead, talk about what you're passionate, cause I'm sure you'll have viewers Also, i clapped when you mentioned Look Back. One of the best of the year
Wise words, Schaff. You've really expanded my view on movies and shows and I'll check them out sometime. I'll watch your recommendation videos when they come out, looking forward to them and happy you're focusing on what you're passionate about. 😊 Now to check out the rest of your Pikmin videos because while i haven't played the games, I'm happy to hear you talk about something you're interested in and learn more about it.
4:59 I'm honestly surprised that on the poster there was no certain someone who went back in time to the first Thanksgiving to get the turkeys off the menu.
What's infuriating is that Disney's could make a new IP about anything, and people would still watch it regardless of quality because it's Disney's- but even that is becoming too much effort for them
I just wanna say thank you for the last half of the video. I’m so tired of people using the same popular American animated movies to make the argument that “Animation is cinema” or “Animation is not a genre” but they never try to branch out and search for more obscure properties. Animation as an art form has a rich history that branches out across the world and even before Disney that most people just aren’t interested in. I much appreciate your attempt branch out from the typical western companies in search of other more obscure projects.
Honestly I've really wanted to see some more video game analysis on here since the end of the Illumination video, where it was mentioned how important Mario is to you. I remembered thinking when I watched that part "Man, a Mario Odyssey review from Schaff would be totally awesome." (Actually I may have commented that, too, when I think about it) I guess just the idea of more video game analysis on the channel is exciting because a happy Schaff being passionate about stuff is the best Schaff
I actually got to see an Early Screening of Memoir of a Snail through my University, and I actually wasn't going to go originally since I wasn't too interested in it, but I can safely say it's either my favorite or 2nd favorite Animated Movie of the year (between that and Wild Robot for me). It's such a powerful movie that touches on very sensitive topics, but it's definitely needed especially with where we're at as a society right now. I think I cried 4 different times watching it, and I can't express enough just how much everyone needs to see this movie because it's so good Also when's the Arcane reaction coming out
Saw the movie with my little cousins who are all like 8 years old on average, and they all started laughing during Moana's "death" scene, and started referencing it moments after leaving the theater. I'm pretty sure this new franchise will do just fine.
really appreciate the recommendations at the end. i know the medium is way more than disney and dreamworks n shit but i've always wanted to broaden my horizons when it comes to animation. i'm just really inefficient at watching anything so i kinda have like a gigantic backlog of older (in a lot of cases mainstream) movies to get through, and that distracts me from looking into newer, obscure things in general using your influence in the youtube sphere to recommend more obscure flicks is respectable as all hell, and trojan horsing them into what seems like just another Modern Disney Bad video is really smart. it's rare to see a huge youtuber with the level of awareness of their influence that you have
You know, I never really thought about it, but I really do only watch main stream animation. All the movies I've watched recently of my own volition are just Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, etc., and I had no idea how much I was bottlenecking my own entertainment. I want to get into the filmmaking process once I go to college, whether that be as a writer, animator, editor, etc., so I guess now is about as good a time as any to finally broaden my horizons Crazy how my first adult decision is deciding to watch movies other than Disney
Moana 1 Plot: Moana have to give back Te Fit's heart so she can save her Island and family Moana 2 Plot: Moana has to reunite with other people and conect with her ancestors Moana 3 Plot: Moana ascends to the heavens so she can kill God.
Your recent sandwich 6 and the odd star wars ranking inspired me to watch every single animated movie containing an earthworm and rank them for my friends Which lead me to find some of the worst animated movies i had seen and some of the best And those movies def made me realize there is so much interesting indie movie projects, i previously was almost completely unaware of
It's actually really nice to see you acknowledge your place in animation discourse and actively push against it. Some people really do like to rag on you just because you yell about dehydration guns or whatever else, but like, it's funny. And more importantly, anyone who watches more videos from your channel other than the ones that go super viral and spawn the memeable out-of-context clips know that stuff like that is just an act and certainly isn't your sole focus. You're a super smart guy, James, and I respect your desire to wanna break out of the mainstream animation bubble and bring others with you. I'll be along for the ride regardless but hopefully you can convince some other animation-only people to branch out and try more things. Best of luck to you! And hopefully Moana 2.8 Director's Cut will be the start of the glorious Tamatoa arc.
I’ve watched all your videos and have been watching for years. I honestly prefer when you talk about video games especially Pikmin as a long time fan of the series you make some of the best content on it. Honestly the Pikmin treasure ranking would probably be one of my favorite videos from you lol
If I could give a smooth way into more unique animation, try the Best Animated Feature nominees. Obviously you don’t need to watch everything, don’t lose sleep over the bad ones as requirements (which what do ya know are almost always mainstream) but if some are so good they could break through the animation Oscar barrier and actually get nominated for the art they are, that probably means they’re really good. Robot Dreams, Anomalisa, A Cat in Paris, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, The Triplets of Belleville, I Lost My Body, the list goes on. Hope this did anything for anyone!
I came in expecting just a fun video to put on in the background, but the latter half of the video was honestly really nice and made me want to seek out more media to watch in the coming year. Thanks Schaff!
i genuinely hope this doesn't come off as annoying but going on a whole rant about how people should be more appreciative of non-mainstream animation just to then then show almost exclusively oscar nominated features as examples was quite a weird way to get the point across lmao
I really appreciate you heading in this direction! I won't pretend that I'm not gonna come back to your older videos every now and again as comfort food, but I'm really excited to hear you talk about things you're more passionate about, and to use your platform to try and help expand people's horizons. Including my own! Thanks! Cannot wait for you to dissect which of the Stack-Up gyros is the best and which product placement takes the cake (always liked the Vlasic lid, could not tell you why).
Megamind is my favorite movie of all time, not because I only watch mainstream animated movies, but because I watched it as a kid and have incredibly fond memories of it. I was a Megamind fan before it was cool! But seriously, I totally understand your decision Schaff, and I wanna say thank you because your channel is the reason I watched experimental movies, anime, musicals (mostly hamilton but still), the clone wars and nintendo games. Continue to make things you're passionate about! It will make more people passionate about them!

I can't wait to hear the full version of Funky Crab Legs.
As a member of the Shiny Crab fan club, I am also excited!!!

There didn't have to be a Moana 2, your 1-hour Tamatoa video was the sequel we needed
The only correct answer.

Like this is not even meme-ish, "Finding Marlin" doesn't sound impossible AT ALL
If you search it up, its saying it's coming out in 2026 LOL

-Liz and the Blue Bird 🐦 (the best thing i've ever seen in my life)
Making videos on a "non-mainstream" animated films/series are always a really big welcome.

We need a Cartoon Saloon ranking, it’ll be the best Animated studio ranking of all
Based on his Letterboxd account and a few TH-cam videos, it's clear that Schaff is familiar with Cartoon Saloon.
And a LAIKA ranking, once their new movie Wildwood comes out of course

I recommend watching 'the breadwinner' and 'my little goat' if you're interested :D

The only positive impact Moana 2 will have is having more frames of Tomatoa for Schaffrillas to use in the future
Damn, I didn't think a Schaffrillas video would make me feel so...hollow.
What do you mean hallow? Just curious not trying to attack your thoughts or anything.
@@josephwhitaker6990 I just feel so empty after seeing this video and hearing everything about the animation world..

You just don't know it yet.”
“Who are you?”
“Belle, Director of D.I.S.N.E.Y.
Can’t wait for some rando to appear and say “Moana, you have become a part of a much bigger universe, you just don’t know it yet”
We really are entering an era where we primarily have to turn to smaller creators for meaningful art whether thats in music, film, games or whatever
It simultaneously sucks to see the mainstream go down this path while also being great that so many smaller voices have platforms to spread their work
I don’t think this is true (except for animation). A Real Pain, an absolutely incredible movie mentioned in the video, was a Searchlight film - that’s Disney!
i'm so excited for the direction your channel is going in next year!! i'll definitely be looking forward to more niche recommendations!!
Good point
THE PEASANTS (from the filmmakers of The Loving Vincent ) is a subversive masterpiece, the fact the music wasn’t nomineted for the Oscar is a crime
On the good side, this means that we’re probably getting a Moana world in Kingdom Hearts 4. Tamatoa boss fight here I come
Honestly, Very Good On You James! 👏👏👏
Your description of her fighting new gods in each movie, reminds me more of God Of War, than the MCU (Moana Of War 😂)
4:38 "A statement that the *brand* of Moana is more important than the *story* of Moana" You just put succinctly the feeling I've had from Disney movies for a decade now.
Some movies I recommend from this year:
- A Different Man, by Aaron Schimberg
- Juror No. 2, by Clint Eastwood
- Sing Sing, by Greg Kwedar
- Bird, by Andrea Arnold
Goodnight, tri-state area.
Not all of them are for kids but some examples are:
- all of Catroon Saloon's films (I know they got Oscar nominations, which is a huge achievment, but I feel like people ignore them because they're not Disney/Dreamworks/etc.)
- all of Satoshi Kon's films (I think Tokyo Godfathers is the only "kid-friendly" one)
- Ernest et Célestine (2012, French-Belgium film) (same case as Catoon Saloon)
- Mune: Le Gardien de la Lune (2014, French film)
- A Monster in Paris (2011, French film)
- Nocturna (2007, Spanish film)
- Unicorn Wars.(2022, Spanish-French film) (not for kids)
There's also the others that I haven't watchet (yet) but I heard they're pretty good:
- Mad God (2021): a stop-motion American horror film.(not for kids)
- Zarafa (2012, French-belgiam film)
I completely agree with Schaffrillas at the second act.
I just finished Jentry Chau vs The Underworld which didn't get marketed at all.
My friend recommanded it to me and blue eye samurai, but my addicition to dinosaurs and prehistoric animals always got me going "I'll get to it later."
There's so much more to life to movies, shows, and stories you're use to.
Go beyond, think about other projects, bigger or smaller.
See how they can inspire you.
Jentry Chau was fucking amazing, and i havent seen a single TH-camr even talk about it. Netflix dumped it out and no one cares at all. its one of the best shows ive ever seen.
@Xzeon55 My friend razorrex talked about it on his youtube channel
@@thejurassicwonder2307 hell yeah
I'm fine with endless Moana sequels if it means that Tamatoa will eventually get his own TV show/movie.
Most of the people on TH-cam i watch for them instead of what they're saying. I could watch Schaff talk about architecture, and I'd love it. Go ahead, talk about what you're passionate, cause I'm sure you'll have viewers
Also, i clapped when you mentioned Look Back. One of the best of the year
Wise words, Schaff. You've really expanded my view on movies and shows and I'll check them out sometime. I'll watch your recommendation videos when they come out, looking forward to them and happy you're focusing on what you're passionate about. 😊
Now to check out the rest of your Pikmin videos because while i haven't played the games, I'm happy to hear you talk about something you're interested in and learn more about it.
For years, I told everyone this was the real MCU, but they called me a madman. Who’s the crazy one now?
They are
Moana: Elsa, I’m here to talk to you about the Disney Princess Initiative…
4:59 I'm honestly surprised that on the poster there was no certain someone who went back in time to the first Thanksgiving to get the turkeys off the menu.
Shafrillis in four years: “Moana 3 is SO GOOD YOU GUYS OMG”
Can't wait for Phase 2!
What's infuriating is that Disney's could make a new IP about anything, and people would still watch it regardless of quality because it's Disney's- but even that is becoming too much effort for them
MCU? That name will never catch on!😂 But "Moana extended universe"? Now we're talking!!!
I remembered thinking when I watched that part "Man, a Mario Odyssey review from Schaff would be totally awesome." (Actually I may have commented that, too, when I think about it)
I guess just the idea of more video game analysis on the channel is exciting because a happy Schaff being passionate about stuff is the best Schaff
Minecraft Cinematic Universe: Allow me to introduce myself.
This movie making absolute bank pisses me off when actually incredible movies like Transformers One don't even turn a profit.
Blame marketing for Transformers One failure.
I wasn’t expecting Shaff to have an Oppenheimer moment but i respect it 🔥
The MCU, looking at what's happened to cinema from its success: "Now I have become death, the destoryer of worlds."
I think I cried 4 different times watching it, and I can't express enough just how much everyone needs to see this movie because it's so good
Also when's the Arcane reaction coming out
1:43 Based Transformers One moment
True.
Saw the movie with my little cousins who are all like 8 years old on average, and they all started laughing during Moana's "death" scene, and started referencing it moments after leaving the theater. I'm pretty sure this new franchise will do just fine.
12:31 I would recomend The Substance, ONLY IF you can handle extreme body horror
really appreciate the recommendations at the end. i know the medium is way more than disney and dreamworks n shit but i've always wanted to broaden my horizons when it comes to animation. i'm just really inefficient at watching anything so i kinda have like a gigantic backlog of older (in a lot of cases mainstream) movies to get through, and that distracts me from looking into newer, obscure things
in general using your influence in the youtube sphere to recommend more obscure flicks is respectable as all hell, and trojan horsing them into what seems like just another Modern Disney Bad video is really smart. it's rare to see a huge youtuber with the level of awareness of their influence that you have
You know, I never really thought about it, but I really do only watch main stream animation. All the movies I've watched recently of my own volition are just Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, etc., and I had no idea how much I was bottlenecking my own entertainment. I want to get into the filmmaking process once I go to college, whether that be as a writer, animator, editor, etc., so I guess now is about as good a time as any to finally broaden my horizons
Crazy how my first adult decision is deciding to watch movies other than Disney
Oh man, that second half slapped. Thank you. I really look forward to the future of your channel.
I love how this went from talking about Moana 2 to how stale mainstream animation has gotten
Arcane is a super niche barely known underground overlooked hidden amazing animated show btw. You should review it. It only cost 250 million to make.
Moana 1 Plot: Moana have to give back Te Fit's heart so she can save her Island and family
Moana 2 Plot: Moana has to reunite with other people and conect with her ancestors
Moana 3 Plot: Moana ascends to the heavens so she can kill God.
Your recent sandwich 6 and the odd star wars ranking inspired me to watch every single animated movie containing an earthworm and rank them for my friends
Which lead me to find some of the worst animated movies i had seen and some of the best
And those movies def made me realize there is so much interesting indie movie projects, i previously was almost completely unaware of
9:04 does this mean we’re getting pikmin videos??
I really love your DreamWorks video that's why I subscribed
MUPPET MOVIE RANKING CONFIRMED!!!
YES
I'm glad to hear you'll be recommending obscure animated films, I'm excited to hear them out!
i genuinely hope this doesn't come off as annoying but going on a whole rant about how people should be more appreciative of non-mainstream animation just to then then show almost exclusively oscar nominated features as examples was quite a weird way to get the point across lmao
7:16 I’m glad other people remember Foster’s Home for imaginary friends.
Perhaps we should nickname Inside Out “The Riley Cinematic Universe”! 😂
I'm predicting that by movie 4 or 5 she is not even fighting gods from the Polynesian folklore
The concept of Moana-Kratos is interesting tho
