If you cap the ends of the pump before you remove it you can let it tip back easier to get the float arm out without spilling so much gasoline inside the vehicle.

Dear pistonshack. I have a 2004 Volvo S80 2.5 turbo all-wheel drive. I'm having two fueling issues. First one is I will fill my tank up in the needle reads full but once it gets past halfway it sticks and it doesn't move until the car runs completely out of gas this has happened to me twice while driving down the road. Second issue is that while feeling the fuel spews back at me unless I pump the fuel extremely slowly. Where it should take me just a 5 minutes or less to fill my tank it takes me almost 20 to 30 minutes to fill. What are your suggestions on fixing these issues. Thank you for your video and I hope to hear from you soon have a blessed day evening afternoon whatever time it is in your area.
Great video! Mechanics replaced my pump dash showed 50% when it was full. They tried to fix it but still same. Then they put old and new pump together. It's kind of ok but doesnt show it correctly when tank is getting empty. It shows like 10% full, 250km to go but then you are on the road..

Hi, After I OBD2 scanning, I got nothing what can cause crank no start issue. I would recommend to check prime, idle and 2000 rpm fuel pressure. Check for any vacuum and turbocharger leaks as well. Do you have any data from your Vida Dice scan? Let me know, I will try to get back to you soon as I can. Cheers.
@@PistonShack I made an OBD2 scan since vida vice is on the way...it shows misfire for 4 and 5. I changed sparks, coils (all of 5 both) and still that misfire. No vacuum leaks, fuel pump presion not checked ( this week will) and the injector, maybe number 4 and 5 are letting down. Many thanks for the feed back. I’ll write if it is something new.
Oh, okay. I will start with basics: Check wiring down to spark plug coils, very often it could get jammed or damaged while screwing down plastic cover. Check injectors pulse and resistance and compare 3 and 5 with 1-2-and 3. Take spark plug out check for any oil leaks inside plug well. Check spark plug for gap, deposits and wear. Check spark jump with test light - should be min 1'' spark jump from coil to the ground. Check wet and dry engine compression on 4-5 and 1-2-3. I have a video when I did compression test on VW Golf MK4 (check red Golf MK4 playlist) I don't want blame ECU right now but it could be one of the driver failure but it's too early to say. Let me know how everything is going. Cheers Brotha.
Hey John, Are you talking about gasoline or diesel Volvo? I don't think gasoline Volvo has fuel temperature sensor at all. In my Volvo only pump and fuel sender unit in a tank.
The fuel pump placed inside the fuel tank. I am not sure if you can reach from inside the vehicle just only removing the back seat or drop a fuel tank. I never did it on S40
Thank you for the comprehensive video! One question about replacing the pump with a new one. I purchased a Bosch 30761742 (Website said it was compatible with my 2002 v70 xc AWD) and the new pump has an electrical plug on the top and only one connection to the sender while the old pump had two. Is this a problem as my car has no means to plug into the top of the pump?
You are very welcome, Laird. Yeah, I experienced the same issue replacing my fuel pump. Thing is 2003 and newer models have different wiring to the fuel pump. My advise will be, just find the pump with a same wiring (2001-2002 models). Other wise it won't work.
Hi, Trone. What you mean by "emotion code"? The easiest way to find a right fuel pump is to compare visually electrical connectors and fuel lines location and shapes on pumps. Also you can pull Volvo part number form VIDA or ask your local Volvo dealer . Cheers!
Ah I see you never videoed dealing with the fuel line routing and attaching the left side sender to the fuel pick up line. .just have kicked your butt real good. If it's not properly installed car will only pull fuel from right side of tank.

Before you make your car smell like a gas tank, if you have a fuel pump control module located underneath the car attached on the side of the car or on top of the gas tank. disconnect and bypass to see if you can start the car before even thinking of replacing the fuel pump. If it fires up when you bypass, its the unit. Why am I saying this? Because $400 for a fuel pump and then $400 for the fuel pump control module adds up quickly. I recommend watching this video as well... th-cam.com/video/Dx6vLRBxErw/w-d-xo.html

It cranks, and it takes long to start engine, after that during day it starts but i can feel that the engine start has something wrong, not normal as before. Can you give me an idea. Thanks a lot 👋🏻 2.5t xc90
Anyway ill wait for vida to see if it catches more info. Checked battery, alternator, all electrical i ok. No vacuum leaks, fuel pump presion not checked ( this week will) and the injector, maybe number 4 and 5 are letting down. Many thanks for the feed back. I’ll write if it is something new.
Oh, okay. I will start with basics:
Check wiring down to spark plug coils, very often it could get jammed or damaged while screwing down plastic cover.
I have a video when I did compression test on VW Golf MK4 (check red Golf MK4 playlist)
I don't want blame ECU right now but it could be one of the driver failure but it's too early to say.
Let me know how everything is going.
Cheers Brotha.
Nice video!
Do you know where the temp sensor on the fuel pump is located?
Hey John, Are you talking about gasoline or diesel Volvo? I don't think gasoline Volvo has fuel temperature sensor at all. In my Volvo only pump and fuel sender unit in a tank.
🥳 Great video
Thanks for the visit!
I hate the P2 fuel pump design just because you gotta remove both units😞. On my old 850 it was a quick 15-20 minute job
That's good to know) Normally, older models are much easier to fix. Let me know how is your repair so far.
Can you tell me what tools were used in this
Sorry, I don't remember. Next time I should ad tools I used down under the video. Thanks for watching.
Which trusted web site I can purchase for my 2005 s40?
Well, I like to buy from Rockauto
Hey its Xander,
Is the pump located in the same place for a Volvo s40 t5?
The fuel pump placed inside the fuel tank. I am not sure if you can reach from inside the vehicle just only removing the back seat or drop a fuel tank. I never did it on S40
@@PistonShack Thank you very much for the information💪
You're very welcome!
Thnks man wow
Happy to help Javier!
Вот чтоб зубилом гайку не портить можно из фановой пластиковой трубы "ключ" сделать.
Благодарю за совет, Алексей. Сам думал, но в тот момент не оказалось ничего под рукой) но идея отличная.
perfect video :-)
I glad it helped more than just me)
Where can I find the fuel pump in my Volvo 2008 s40 2.4i
Hi Tess, Check under the back seat coshing.
Wish it were this easy in the P80 AWD's =P Going to be cutting the floor in the near future as I don't want to drop the tank.
Oh, S80 doesn't have access under the seat, I didn't know!
2001 V70XC, now iI know where it is and how to get to it, Q is..... what is the name and artist of the music please
There are few artists, which minute of the video?
Great video and nice music!
Thanks!
Where can I find the emotions code to match right fuel pump
Hi, Trone.
What you mean by "emotion code"?
The easiest way to find a right fuel pump is to compare visually electrical connectors and fuel lines location and shapes on pumps. Also you can pull Volvo part number form VIDA or ask your local Volvo dealer .
Cheers!
Complete guide. Merci!
You are very welcome!
New here ! Great Videos !!!
Thanks for watching the vid. I checked your channel yesterday. I would like to support you guys by subscribing. Stay safe and take care!
Verbal explanation, instead of useless background music, could have made this video much more helpful.
Sorry for that, life and learn how to do YT better. Thanks!
@@PistonShack We all live and learn. Thanks for the reply!

Благодарю за просмотр! Александр всех благ вам и вашей семье.
Tooooop ✔️🛎️
Thanks!
How do i get to the fuel pump
Well, you need to work it out from the tank. It might be difficult but you will get it.
Thank you boss
Appreciated your feedback and time watching the video. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for subscribing. Cheers!
Mine dies with a quarter of a tank left🤔
Thanks 🫣✌🏽
No problem 👍
How many steps on the fit bit 😃
Steps, haha!) Walking around Volvo for few hours, probably 2000+ LOL!)
VolvoFilms if you’re ever in my area again stop by for a beer (or coffee cream) lol
You bet, man! See ya one day at winter time)
Hi v50. There same
Cheers Alan! Thanks for letting me know.
Ah I see you never videoed dealing with the fuel line routing and attaching the left side sender to the fuel pick up line. .just have kicked your butt real good. If it's not properly installed car will only pull fuel from right side of tank.
So true MonzaRacer! Good point. When my fuel pump will fail again I probably should record only that part - How to do fuel line routing and attaching the left side sender to the fuel pick up line! Cheers, thank you for watching!
There is no hatch on my s40 2.0d 2008 model 😡
Hey Mark! We don't have 2.0L Volvo diesels in Canada, unfortunately!
I would like to have one!
I'm not going to get these hoses in the right place
How is your repair?
Please help me. I am owner of a Volvo s40 year 2007. A few weeks ago the engine broke. I don't have money to repair it. My objective is to drain fuel tank due to it is full of gasoline.
Please give me a hint. I don't want to loss that 50 lts. of premium gasoline. Thanks a lot.
Morning. Well, I will remove the fuel pump cover to get access into the tank and them syphoned gasoline with a syphone hand pump. Cheers.
Thanks brother.. Helped me out alot.. What a stupid design.. Lol typical Volvo over engineered
I'm so glad to hear that) Cheers brotha! Let me know if you have any questions about your Volvo.
Thanks a lot for sharing info. I will definitely take your advice. Appreciated your time for watching my video. Stay safe!
