The main purpose is to allow yourself to think about other things (all the suppressed emotions and ideas), through meditation you let it come up, as he said allow all thoughts and emotions without resistance...only after you run through all of it, then you can achieve that state of clear mind

Smart monk. He knows that if one focuses on his breath it's quite natural that he won't be able to think about other things. Because the moment we start thinking about other things we will be losing out on focusing on our breath. This way we will revert back to our breath. This is how any meditation feels like in the beginning.

@@deejay9295 the decaying nature of our breath on which we concentrate will make us to understand the decaying nature of the world around us..the sooner we will grasp this understanding the faster we will unburden our sufferings and pain.
When you concentrate on something you get distracted from anything else..in short concentrate/meditate on breathing and get detached from the things you get worried about (for the time being your concentration lasts.)
Once you understand the purpose of meditation you will easily initiate to leave your pains and worries behind.

This is a great way to explain awareness with breath. All we want when meditating is to be aware of the breath, the thoughts and the body. The thoughts could be of any nature good or bad. Being aware of the thought almost makes the thought just a thought and the emotion is gone or at least not felt so overwhelmingly

something that i was taught that really helped me get into that focused, natural breathing is really focusing on how your body feels while you breathe. what muscles are you tensing and relaxing to breathe from? are you holding it in? are you fully expanding and retracting your diaphragm? eventually, your body will adjust itself to breathe in the most efficient way~

    • @prinon8162

I am new to meditation but from what I know, you are supposed to observe the sensations, be it in your physical body or the emotions which you feel in your mind, just let them float like leaves on a river. notice them, sure but then let them float away. Dont fixate on them, dont avoid them or dont hang on to them
you can burp and fart during meditation, these are kinda inevitable but you should prolly not meditate after meals or if you are actually sick. hope this helps

I would love to see a tao person or a buddhist monk working and in living somewhere like london as a bin man or something on rubbish wages waking up at 5am on a freezing cold january morning wearing his hi visiblity uniform. paying £1500 pound rent for a shity flat whilst only earning £2000 a month. Do you think he would be peaceful still? do you think if the londoner whos actually working in that job swapped positions with the monk who would be happier? The monk has no idea how shit it is losing or your youthful innocence working a dead end job he would actually think hes in the gulags or in a nightmare, whilst the binman would be loving his new peaceful life thinking hes in a dream. Im sorry if that sounded rude i find it a bit frustrating thats all. Thanks

You dont know is his life was bad or not just like he dosnt know if your life is bad or not its about how you view your situation someone could be looking at this comment from a place like africa where there are no jobs or no garbage disposal companys or high vis jackets or even sometimes good houses to live in its all about the way you perceive your own life if you think your life will continue to be shit then it will be but if you try new things and start thinking of life more positivley you wouldnt feel sorry for yourself

The entire purpose of being a monk is you have reached that state of mind where worldly possessions do not matter. They go around asking for food just because it's the minimum thing their body needs to run on. The rest of the day, they are just trying to be one with the forces of the universe. They don't care about savings, living in a flat, living in London etc... But what he is trying to teach us here is how we can work towards reducing the chaos in our mind. You can even argue the Bin Man's position is better than a CEO working long hours who is under constant stress of making decisions that can affect millions of dollars, due to which he probably can't even get enough sleep or give time to his family, plus sitting the whole day probably gives him serious health conditions. The CEO would argue that Google's CEO probably works lesser and more flexible hours and earns tons more than he does. Someone here gave the example of a bin man in Africa. Your life is your life, constant comparison is reducing your own well being. Your thoughts can make or break you. This is the entire point of meditation. Being aware of your thoughts, getting mental clarity, being more calm, positive and conscious.
