Thank you for this! I've always found myself hyper aware of my mental illnesses i.e. agoraphobia, acute anxiety and generalized persistent anxiety, ptsd/trauma and adhd. This brings so much understanding to why my mind does this, I always thought it was my mind trying to cope and now I know why!!

What a great Master, he is the reason why I'm meditating. Since i said i wanna do something against my bad thoughts, depressed World, a stranger in my Body, not calculateable happenings in and outside, from horror to horror, anxiety ruled mind, panic by panic, felt lost in my borderless Imagination of hopelessness. Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche gave me the courage. Just to sit down and to be with it, to stay friendly and to let it be as it is and now after 2 years. Meditating is a passion for me and these days are history. Now i'm living and loving the here and now. @all stay aware and keep care on oneself cultivate loving kindeness and compassion within and outer your world. 🧘

Not going to lie, I didn't know that pizza and meditation could go together. Life changing. Your eloquent rendering of meditation as a simple act of being present - seeing, hearing, feeling - is as refreshing as it is profound. It reminds us that the essence of meditation is not to silence the mind, but rather to tune in to the orchestra of our thoughts, feelings, and sensations, without trying to conduct or control them.
I particularly resonate with your analogy of awareness being like the sky, ever-present and unchanging, while our thoughts and emotions are like transient storms. It echoes what I often discuss on my channel about the benefits of daily mindfulness, the practice of deliberately paying attention to our thoughts and feelings without judgement. Just as you said, it's not about stopping our thoughts or achieving a state of eternal bliss, but about recognizing and accepting our mental states as they are.

@@uncomfortabletruths7990 - Right from Veda to Upanishad’s and Gita it has been mentioned that self is pure awareness bliss. You are not mind your are not body you are not emotions but pure awareness or complete state of witness. It is due to maya or error or lack of awareness this realization is missing. But with this practice e played at the end you are trying to be experiencing the state of witnessing. Now with more such practice the intellectual enlightenment transformed to experiential enlightenment changing the entire life. Yogis remain in full bliss state and gains power to deal with any situation no matter it is inhuman.

🍀3 steps of practice to connect with awareness:
3:48 Step 1: We have to use an object, support, to connect with awareness.
6:22 Step 2: Actually we can meditate any where, any time with anything.
9:19 Step 3: open awareness meditation: Now no need to have support. Just be awareness itself.
    🍀3 Benefits of the practice(In step 2):
    1. Awareness: So now awareness becomes more than panic, more than depression, stress, monkey mind… what ever. Let them come, and let them go.
    2. Wisdom comes.
    1. When you look at panic, panic is not solid stone anymore. Panic becomes pieces: Sensation here(touch tummy) frightening image, voice, background belief.
    2. If you take one of these away, you can not find panic. Panic becomes like shaving foam. Looks like a piece of rock, but inside full of bubbles.
    3. Acceptance - self-kindness,self-love and self-compassion. You let panic come and go, that’s the real acceptance.

I went on a ten-day meditation retreat taught by this guy. Good stuff!
But then I went on a retreat taught by a westerner on the topic of :open Awareness" (which I did not know until just now was a Tibetan practice.
It has been my experience that when Tibetans teach Tibetan Buddhism, it sounds very grounded and sensible, like this guy. But when westerners try to teach it, it sounds totally out there. This retriet was no exception. They kept saying "Sit but don't focus on any one thing" or "go outside and walk slowly back and forth, but don't be focused when you do it." This, of course, was the opposite of everything else3 I had been taught.
Well, I don't know if this was their intention, and I don't think it was, but my mind rebelled by giving me strong, focused meditations. If they had told me to have strong, focused meditations, I probably would not have had so many of them.

I love this guy and would love to meet him. So down to earth, funny and direct. Puts you in touch with the reality of meditation as what you are as opposed to something you do. People try to approach meditation like everything else, with mental effort and trying to analyse and make sense of it conceptually. It’s simply just being aware of experience as it is, that’s it, like his opening pointers. Read his book ‘in love with the world’. He’s definitely been through it. 🙏🏻

This man is the embodiment of so many virtues but what strikes me most is his *pure authenticity.* I'm not sure I've ever seen someone on the TED Stage with less ego. Even among the blind, the maimed and those with horrendously severe (or terminal) phisiological disorders thst have spoken with powerful effect on overcoming adversity.
There's something alien about him. He makes me laugh every time I see him. Even when he's almost certainly not intending to be funny. Initially, I thought "he reminds me of a human Yoda." I suppose because he has both the visceral presence of wisdom and that characteristic vocal register shift between high and low tones so common in Nepalese/Tibetan monks. Then I realized it was something far more remarkable. I was fortunate enough to go on a safari some years ago and its an experience that *never* leaves you. I was actually not all that excited to go as I thought "I can see all these animals at the San Diego Zoo if I want or see them in an unprecedented up close way on the Animal Planet Series." Yet, when you're in an open air vehicle within feet (sometimes inches) of lions, leopards, elephant, cape Buffalo, giraffe and all the other fauna, the effect is beyond words but magical, mesmerizing and spellbinding come close. To see the behavioral differences between animals in their natural habitats versus those in artificial environmental enclosures or cages at zoos is to witness one of the most stark contrasts in the behavior of any living creatures including humans. Therefore, what occurred to me, the thing I found so "alien" about this man is that he is so devoid of ego and societal domestication, he is the perfect candidate by which we may juxtapose as entrenched members of society, a "free man." He lives amongt us, walks amongst us, but whilst we live in and believe in the absolute reality of our respective physical and mental "zoos," (or physical and mental artificial environmental enclosures) he in contrast lives in the "natural habitat" or the wild and is therefore free.
Imagine being catapulted into international acclaim for writing your story, earning a substantial sum from those books, then habing the wisdom to recognize the emergence of what was to him somewhat of a foreign entity, the tell tale signs of rapidly growing ego. Then, after having gone from rags to riches (rags meaning Buddhist monks aren't exactly known for raking in high salaries...rather a room some meals and perhaps a stipend...but im not sure about that) to giving it all away to go live on the streets of India as a beggar. I studied abroad in India and I can tell you now, its just about the last place on Earth one would want to be compelled to beyond an active war zone.
It's evident that that experience, of going through the experience of extreme food illness (which when *he* says he nearly died you better believe it) and came out the other end, without animosity or regret but all contrary virtues. Love for the mere joyful awareness of being alive. Love for the nearby trees, the passerbys, the interconnectedness of this living Earth, and that blue sky where he sees the limitless field of awareness reflected above as it is below.
    What an astonishing man!

This video is really practical. I would show it to people who are struggling with meditation and consciousness. Internal equilibrium is something I personally struggle with on a daily basis. Through meditation I can attune to higher frequencies and this sacred space of tranquility.

Alan Watts has an excellent discussion of how to enter the meditative state by listening - I use it regularly as some have put it on TH-cam with different music. I tried so many techniques with varying degrees of "success" but this instruction to use the ears to connect with awareness is damn near foolproof.

INDIA 🇮🇳 do have treasure of yoga & meditation since ages. Unfortunately new generation of India is inclined toward western culture as its a developing nation but people from developed countries are coming to India to learn yoga & meditation as they have all wealth & power but lack peace & satisfaction...Life is like a circle we get back to the point from where we have started . The more we collect the more we suffer. Simple life is the 🔑 key to happiness ladies & gentlemen. 😇

It is the knowing mind. I know that I am in pain. Or smell, hear, feel, think. So who are we really if there is always something inside us that can observe everything? It is pure, always there, and non-judgmental. And when we are in that awareness, we are already not the person with the pain.

I had an interesting experience a few weeks ago. I had no intention to purposefully meditate while bathing, but here's what happened. I have a walk-in tub. It has jets in the back you can rest your back up against, below the seat at the back of your legs and in front of your legs near your shins. All around. I will submerge myself up to my chin off the seat. It's amazing. I have it nice and warn and all the jets on high. Once submerged I am aware of all the sensations of the warm water moving, the bubbles moving quickly around my body as I close my eyes. I relax and listen and feel everything with no distractions. It wasn't until I broke my awareness and sat on my seat that I was in a meditative state. I checked the time and a little over 30 minutes had passed. I see it as similar to listening to him ring the bowl 🥣. I had occasional thoughts pop in and out, but for the most part it was all about what I was feeling. I have meditated in the past mostly by watching my breath. I pay attention to my inhalation and exhalation. If I catch myself thinking I think "thoughts" and go back to my breath. This guy is wonderful. Amazing.
