***** That would work to. I did mean plain as in another dimension. Like a plain of passage. You made me look up an example, lol. And it looks like I found an interesting book. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Plains_of_Passage Thanks!
Our rabbits are loving listening to this. To be fair, they enjoy most music. I think this is due to the rapid, complex blending of sounds though. Our one bunny usually only rocks out to well rock and the Dragonborn theme from Skyrim. Seeing her listen to this was interesting. And now she's mad at me because the music is over.
I love these guys! Their new Album Hishou is fantabulous - my favorite. As long as these guys lay off the synth and keep up the quick tempo and the trad. melodies, they can't go wrong. They're friggin fantastic.
Was gonna say similar. Sounds like banjo. Few strings, very tight/taut so a very pingy high pitched sound, along with the small chamber and long necks.
First of all, the whole video is amazing. I hold these musicians (and their instrument) in the highest of esteem. 2:37 - I get that feeling in the pit of my stomach like I'm rolling over the hill of a rollercoaster, gets me every time! Chills!
When I hear this, I KNOW for a FACT I am a Samurai demon killer meant to save to the world :) It makes me eager to find my blade and start slaying evil :)
It's really cool to see the kind of states masters of different instruments get into when they get in the zone. Where metal guitarists are extremely intense and blues guitarists are express soul and passion, these shamisen players seem at peace and tranquil even when they are absolutely shredding the thing. Very cool dynamic of music and the emotions that rise from every genre and style.
TI Pilot not so sure on that Chief. The Great Leap Forward wasn’t the best I’ve ever seen. But then again that’s China and this is japan we are talking about
Damn! This clip has been around for a while ! And it still inspires me to practice harder on my Shamisen. Both these guys are top notch players. I studied with Kinoshita Shinichi back in 2004 and I know Agatsuma from EMI music Japan. Agatsuma is a really cool dude! I love his Shamisen playing! He even got me my record deal with EMI. I really feel blessed as a Shamisen Player to be able to gain inspiration from these two! Thanks for posting and keeping this up!
I love this instrument. It has such a unique sound. It makes me laugh because the way you strum it makes it sound like one of the strings is going to break any minute.
Not really. If you want a similar sound, then look for the Chinese Sanxian. It has three strings, and it is the predecessor of the Shamisen... I believe
AnonymousMan Well you could say the Chinese Sanxian, Vietnamese Dan Tam, Khmer Ping, Ryukyuan Sanshin and Japanese Shamisen are banjos. The are a long necked guitar with a drum as a resonator, but they are not very much related to the African or British Banjo
Ah you really think the people playing banjo, are bright enough to invent it? Nope sorry, banjo is the poor person's poor replica of a ukelele. Has nothing to do with ancient beauty like shamisen.
YummYp00p Excuse me? The banjo was invented in the 1600's, and was derived from one or several African tribal instruments, which date back to hundreds of years before the shamisen. The banjo's roots date back further than the shamisen's "ancient beauty." Furthermore, the ukulele was derived from the Hawaiian interpretation of a type of portuguese guitar, nearly 300 years AFTER the modern banjo. I play the banjo. Please, keep calling me dumb. You seem to know SO MUCH about musical history. ;)
Yhay was incredible. One thing if you listen to it very caefully. It sounds like there are three not just two. but you have to listen very carefully. Fantastic none the less.
No, in fact when you look down you automatically partially close your eyelids (probably to adjust luminosity) Just take a picture of yourself looking down and you'll see!
So powerful and beautiful i cried. I agree it reminds me of banjo. I also see now that "rock and roll" music has been invented over and over throughout history, as I'm pretty sure this is a hundred year old piece of music... Even if I'm wrong, this was tear inducing and super awesome.. Please share with your guitar loving or music loving friends! The TH-cam share button is different, instead of a splitting molecule it's a swoopy arrow icon
+Taro Toth (Tarototh) It`s actually not a very old piece of music. Tsugaru Shamisen is a rare Japanese art form that is still evolving today and not based on techniques handed down through the centuries etc.
55 people actually disliked this? How can you not like this... this is THE ultimate shamisen battle....especially the older gentlemen, Mr. Kinoshita. Amazing speed and skill.
Hi Good comment of yours, Yes indeed, They have contributed to the resurgence of the traditional Japanese music. Mr. Kinoshita(the one in Wine colour suits)is really highly skilled, perhaps the greatest of all who emerged in the last 10 years or so. He is a great composer/arranger as well. He has done his creation throughlly in the Western notation as well.
@akissy that may be so, but banjo is pretty hard to learn, when you play you usually pluck each string individually with a different finger, so you're using every single one of your fingers to play a specific tune.
Hi Good question, Sanxian is the former version of Shamisen. It was the traditional instrument of people in Okinawa Island of Japan. IT was made of Snake skin, and a smaller than Shamisen.
I liked Shamisen more, although Shamisen was also pretty good.
lol, the title
+Shady Flames In the battle between shamisen and shamisen, it's pretty safe to say that shamisen won
+Maravi Yoso I don't agree I have to go with Shamisen bro
You are all crazy. Shamisen clearly stole the show from Shamisen.
Charles Mills Lies. Shamisen was way better!
Devil went down to Kanto, he was lookin' for a soul to steal . . .
Is that a reference to something
+Andy Nguyen Devil went down to Georgia, search for it :P
+George Takei You fucking hero.
+George Takei--wouldn't Kyoto be a better reference?
+Andy Nguyen You idiot.
2:50 That guy is feeling it. The music's just overwhelming.
No matter how many times I listen these 2 float me off my feet to a plain unseen by the naked eye.
It would be a honor to see the Yoshida brothers do the same thing!

That would work to.

Need a reminder for 2024 perhaps? ;)
@@Kirian_Roig_I always 🙂
These are two of the BEST Shamisen players Alive today! Hiromitsu Agatsuma and Kinoshita Shinichi! Incredible stuff!!!
I love these guys! Their new Album Hishou is fantabulous - my favorite. As long as these guys lay off the synth and keep up the quick tempo and the trad. melodies, they can't go wrong. They're friggin fantastic.
This isn't the Yoshida brothers, these are two solo musicians playing together
Non-Japanese here. It's weird how it sounds so alien and yet still be immensely satisfying to listen to.
Sounds like a fret-less Banjo, cause it is kind of similar
Was gonna say similar. Sounds like banjo. Few strings, very tight/taut so a very pingy high pitched sound, along with the small chamber and long necks.
this is one of the first videos i watched and favorited when i first joined youtube 5 years go. and it STILL amazes me.
kubo and the two strongs.
miss that movie.
this reminds me of the movie.
when i listen to this , i get the melancholy vibes that can't be explained by words
First of all, the whole video is amazing. I hold these musicians (and their instrument) in the highest of esteem.

Ar you stil alive?
Dueling shamisens - music really is the language of the gods.
Who would have a martial arts death battle to this? I'm honestly curious. I totally would.
When I hear this, I KNOW for a FACT I am a Samurai demon killer meant to save to the world :) It makes me eager to find my blade and start slaying evil :)
I wouldn't. But i'd watch for sure.
Jsyrin in the immortal words of Screwattack’s Boomstick: IT’S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLE!!!
or just battle each other with the shamisen
Jsyrin SHADOW FIGHT!
i am really amazed by this instrumant..he is so..uniqe...something about it is so beautiful

Very goog, relly amazing music! can´t stop to hear it, great!
It's... It's like a Japanese Banjo. And I'm okay with that.
and i think Banjo is American Shamisen :P
Eren Yalçınkaya Exactly what I thought.
michael scalia i'ts Japanese balalaika
michael scalia it's the Japanese Ngoni
+michael scalia (transcendantviewer) It was made with cat skin FYI
That was super special epic!

I don`t think they are dueling but instead they are working together
awesome performance! excellent video. good post.

If you came here from a little boy who brings origami to life with this instrument, welcome.
Great movie. Just saw it today.
+C Pegg Just saw it today! awesome film, I live here in Oregon and my dad installed cable for Laika or some warehouse. :D

It was just....really inspiring and amazing. Kubo and the Two Strings was truly a masterpiece.
How did you know

If I don't hear this when I watch Kubo and the two strings I'm gonna give the movie one star for not being Japanese enough.
sammmmmmmeeeeee
So hopefully you gave it 5 stars :3
it deserve 15 stars
+TI Pilot It deserves those just for the cover of While my Guitar (Shamisen?) Gently Weeps.
this is one of the best clips on youtube ever. Thank you so much for sharing this. Im moving to Kyoto just to experince true culture and tradition.

Maravilhosa música e interessante instrumento.
Excelente execução do shamisen!
I half expected naruto to hit me with a rasengan rn.
mind blowing. simply mind blowing.
thems some funny looking banjos
Although the Shamisen exist rather long before the Banjo.
but the sound similar
Not really. If you want a similar sound, then look for the Chinese Sanxian. It has three strings, and it is the predecessor of the Shamisen... I believe
I thought they had a banjo sound ill check out the Chinese sanxian

wish i could learn the shamisen... :/ but i suck at music.... x_x
Same.
I find it amazing how many different notes/sounds can be made with just three strings!
THAT'S HOW YOU SHRED!!
i'm from Portugal, and i love all sounds from Japan, just love it!

So THIS is where the guitar solo came from.
WoW!!!
Musicaly beautiful.
This reminds me so much of Naruto
Lol same, that's the reason I'm here actually. The soundtracks are amazing and the tracks featuring the shamisen are my favorite.
Ikr!!!
Love it ! a heritage of traditional music quality musicians!!
.....But does it Djent?
Ooh... I like it. This is cool! I would like to try out a Shamisen... They sound so AWESOME!!
So japanese version of the banjo
Not at all. The Shamisen has been around for centuries, same thing with the Morin Khuur of Mongolia, its older counter part.
Ah you really think the people playing banjo, are bright enough to invent it? Nope sorry, banjo is the poor person's poor replica of a ukelele. Has nothing to do with ancient beauty like shamisen.

+YummYp00p look at ngoni, xalam, kontingo and kolgo, the west African ancestors of the banjo.
The shamisen was developed in the 14th or 15th century in Fujian, China.
Brought to Okinawa, Japan in the 16th century.
great music for my ears, i can just listen to this for ages, btw nice pick, i would like to have one for my telecaster ;D
So uhhhh, anyone else come here after watching the JonTron's Takeshis Challenge?
Goddammit yes lol.
Yup, I had to make sure of what sound it makes. Now I know I've heard those tone sounds before. x)
Same thing goes for the "shakuhachi" in my case.
That's awesome. Would be way cool to be able to play the shamisen..!
Reminds me of Mystical Ninjas.
Amazing!
If you want some good shamisan listen to the Yoshida brothers
+Vladimir Lenin I dunno but yoshida sounded very mainstream and poppy. It kinda lacked the soulful element like in this video.
Friedrich Nietzsche just watched ibuki before this
amazing!!!i love the shamisen!i want to buy one and compose music with it...
I dont know why but i can imagine a chinese policeman chasing a man xDD
That is odd considering it's a Japanese instrument
Actually according to the guy above this comment this originally came from egypt.

Now just check out CAVAQUINHO. Thanks me later.
That Charley Daniels reference almost made me wet myself. Kudos to you wherever you are in this world . You made my day.
They played with their eyes closed or this comment is just being racist?
No they are closed haha, deep concentration.
Yeah, even guitarists and violinists close their eyes sometimes to help concentrate.
I was joking >_>

Great video! Reminds me of a fairy tale I heard with a master musician who could play wonderful music on a shamisen with a single string!
3 seconds into it and i already enjoy it!
Fantastic.
