This is powerful music for the mind, the flowing water is conjured up flowing through the ancient mountains of China and allows the Emporors cook to catch the right fish to grace the table of such dignity.
Agreed...I've looked for some really good ones that really bring out that poignant, signature guqin sound to its full potential...and finally, damn this one really does the trick!!!

*Sigh* Alright, I godda be Midwestern American and reply with, "that's what she said." Duty fulfilled. But yes, very beautiful. Three Kingdoms (2010) pretty much forced me to love this type of music.
This is my favorite interpretation of this song. The way she phrases it creates such a bright and playful atmosphere and it really charges the performance with a sense of lively energy. She places a lot of emphasis on using staccato, compared to other performances I’ve seen of this song and with those light, plinky harmonics, it really does invoke the image of a free flowing river with crystal clear waters.
It always amazes me to watch someone doing something you don't have any expertise in, yet, you can tell their skill and passion for it are exceptional. This was beautiful, thank you... :)
It doesn't even amaze me, it seems like witchcraft. Like how is it possible for people to do these things? And she didn't mess up even one motion. I just can't comprehend it.
This is so incredible. It feels like I'm listening to what a river would sound like if it could sing- first, a delicate trickle of water running thinly over round stones, then the water opens up into a broader/deeper stream that starts a bit slowly, but soon become fast and boisterous.
I'm not too familiar with traditional Chinese music, I mostly know erhu pieces, but I'm always impressed by how the music sounds somehow both very traditional but somehow modern. Beautifully played.
There was a moment in the song I had to look at the screen to make sure the instrument was still being played thought it stopped breathing never mind hahahaha
I feel trapped in an ugly world where I can't express feeling through words, but through music I can. This is a great example of another person who also uses music to convey emotions. Thank you.
In addition to your beautiful eloquent playing, your lighting choices really set the visual mood. The black background, table and your black dress make it look like everything is lit in moonlight and shadows. It really makes the pale wood tones of the guqin stand out like a river (the source of the 'flowing water'), and your white hands fluttering over it like two white cranes, perhaps hunting fish in the river, or like two white moths dancing above it.
But when I'm water in a toxic environment suddenly it's not good to be what you're put in, and you have to be the "bigger" example instead 😂😂😂 every proclaimed sage has overlooked something, whatever that be
Less is more is perfectly displayed here. While I don't mind fast playing, I will always appreciate musicians who can display passion and emotion through their playing without "simply" playing quickly. It's like I can hear the musican's mind while they're playing
The Way you play the magnificent Guqin is showing the way water can be swirlingly softer and stronger then the stone that only knows about a single tone 道路 你彈奏美妙的古琴 正在展示水的方式 比石頭更柔軟、更堅固 只知道一個音調

First time I see the name of this instrument, although I recognize it’s voice from many Classical Chinese pieces I heard along the years. However, this is by far the most captivating performance I heard, and it really demonstrates how far and wide this instrument would go in the hands of a virtuoso player. Wonderful
Some people may mix Guqin and Guzheng up. The difference is that Guqin has a deep sound like the male voices meanwhile Guzheng has a higher-pitched sound like the female voices (but some Guzheng can emulate Guqin sounds as well). In terms of history, Guqin is older than Guzheng (both are very old but Guqin is older). Guzheng has a richer range of keys due to the presence of more strings and later became more commonly sighted than Quqin in the musical scenes of ancient China (After the Song dynasty, Guqin was less commonly played) but it is still a powerful instrument.
There are some other ancient Chinese string instruments that didn't pass down to today but was quite prevalent in the ancient time, such as Se and Zhu. This video restored the Se and Zhu back to life along with Guzheng. th-cam.com/video/FMPodJxcTuc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=A6tvyRksUwQMLXR6
Wow, the precision and accuracy is stunning. Playing a fretless anything requires such great control and precision. Not a single note off by even a fraction of a tone
I feel the Appalachian folk music of early America in this piece of music... This song touches on the feeling of a peaceful country place...the bending notes are so satisfying...so organic..

Hey Brandobin, I agree with you, but aside from some slides and vibrato, the notes/tones being played here are not falling outside of 12-tone theory. This whole song sits within F Major Pentatonic.

Fantastic, the song, playing, and the magnificent instrument. It is strung like a super big guitar with more strings and yet the board is a basic rectangle as it sits flat and is played somewhat like a pedal steel guitar. This appears to be much more complicated to play than a pedal steel. The sound of it is rich and the harmonics are clean and true. Thanks.
