What impresses me the most is that this is LIVE (atleast from what i get), and i'm not someone who is complaining there isn't good Music these days anymore in the West, but it's like such an discrepency when you hear the edited radio/spotify Version and then you hear them Live... it sounds so off and sometimes a bit bad, and feels like a lot of the "greatness" of this songs is carried by modern technology.
This hits different, sure i bet the edited radio/spotify one is smoothed out as well... live-performance is simply more raw that's nothing you can do about it, but she can geniunly sing.

The flute player always looks like a clean-cut monk, the lead singer always looks like an edgy princess, the base player a cool tomboy, the lead guitar always wears something slightly scary, the Taiko drummer for some reason always looks like Sasuke from Naruto so he's a ninja, the Shamisen player always the punk rocker sexy-chick, drummer always has the blonde hair and looks like a warrior, the guy who plays the Japanese harp always looks simple but refined/elegant. I hope they never change their style. I love it.

I just don't know! It touches my soul, it has conquered me. I am almost 70 years of age and I'm proud to say that these Japanese completely 'wrapped' me. I'm almost sure the shakuhachi flute guy is just dancing and pretending to play a pre-recorded track. There's no way - i play a little shakuhachi and the flute has to be positioned perfectly against the lip to get any sound at all, the way he's waving his head and flute all over the place would definitely cause him to miss some notes even if he wasn't dancing and jumping all over the place. There's definitely some pre-production and studio multitracking magic happening behind the scenes.

The lead guitarist is all over those harmonics, I love it. But the shamisen is INCREDIBLE. I could listen to that girl solo for an hour -- the tune she lays down is gorgeous and the speed of her picking in that little bit before she hands off at 2:43 is especially insane. Maybe the most impressive thing, though, is how many moving pieces they've got and yet they make it all work, and work *well*. They have got a LOT going on, but it all fits together with the precision of an orchestra. Crazy!
