I admire the work accomplished, seeing things done by hand is gratifying, you can feel the professionalism of the person who makes the Shamisen. All I can wish him is to continue making Shamisen and making people happy.
As a non-native English speaker I misread your comment as 'lutheran' (and not 'luthier') and I wondered too long how lutheran christianity has anything to do with shamisens. :D But I learned a new word, luthier. A person who builds and repairs stringed instruments.
I am so impressed by Japanese people who are generally very gifted and do such beautiful things with devotion, passion and love. Thank you for the time you wanted to show us how you work this beautiful object.
It's fantastic, that a young man can play this instrument, which sounds very exotic to me. I would like to hear a typical Japanese concert with all their so called "old" instruments.
That is a good quality bushi guitar👍 I have heard this music many times before it good for a celebration or just to relax my favorite is during a festival 😀✌️❤️
I'm an artizan from Brazil. I make jewelry and love this vídeos about Japanese process making this incredible things! I try to be more calm and perfectionist (the japanese style). Thanks for post this vídeos 😁🧡 (sorry for my horrible english)
That beautiful piece of music at the end was well worth the wait throughout my complete lack of understanding what and how the item was being built. Just amazingly beautiful music. Thank you.
The strings of the shamisen have been made of silk since ancient times, and surprisingly, they have not changed even now. There was no time when animal intestines were used. (Although the thin strings of Tsugaru shamisen are nylon)

awesome. When we make ektara we just glue the leader onto the drum. Very nice work and product. It was nice to see it being played when it was finished. ❤❤
Wonder what happens to traditional making when the elderly are gone. It's sad to think that many of the traditional ways of making beautiful things will be lost in time 😥
Video title is wrong ! But it's amazing to see the last adjustments that is a little part of the whole process. These masters do way more work for main parts of each instrument 🤘🏻👍🏼
My thought it's a sort of animal gelatin, like fish or rabbit skin glue that's ground into a powdered form, ready for activation upon hydrating? I could be wrong, though.
What happens if the craftsman figures out a better method of doing a specific process? (by that I mean for example a particular manual technique, not using modern machines or products) If this new method still gives the same or even better or more consistent results, how do they know if they are allowed to adopt it and when is it more important to protect the traditional methods?
Hello, what are the materials of the glue you used in the 059th second? Let's glue the skin of the "qanun" musical instrument in Turkey with it. Thank you.
Japanese craftsmanship is second to none. They take such grate pride in their work it really is amazing ❤

@@Pehmokettu you’re not the first to make that mistake. I’ve heard it from some native English speakers too.😄

It's interesting that these wooden clamps are very similar to a jewelers wooden clamp

I'm just impressed that he's able to kneel on his knees that long.
I enjoyed watching it made. I enjoyed watching and hearing it played even more.

Very fine English! ThankYou for your comment😊❤🎉❤
That is one elaborate clamp system!
Thank you for sharing. It is a fantastic video to watch. It must have taken many years to hone the craft.
Evey the stretching and glue apparatus is neat. I'd like to see how it was made. Amazing work.
The process was fun to watch and learn, ThankYou for sharing this with us ❤️ How are the boxes made, please?😊
That was so cool what beautiful craftsmanship and I love the playing
Finally a shamisen build. I need this as reference. Thank you very much.
You Makin a shamisen? Or making something about shamisen makers?
great respect for japan and its amazing craftsmen and artists, love from egypt.

I'm glad that I watched. Thank you.
Wondering how the strings were made of in the past. Beautiful and thanks for sharing
Obviously they were made from animals sinews and guts.

Mantab... Cara tradisional & modern 👍🏻
is it really cat skin parchment?
Very helpfull. Thank a lot👍
Even the tools are a art form
The pick looks like a windshield snow remover 😄
❤ C'est fantastique ce savoir faire ❤
That's a fancy windshield scraper you play that thing with! Just kidding, I enjoyed the video.

Incredible instrument
I keep thinking about the pressure that glue is holding and the strength of the fibers in general

Zajímavý ,pracný na výrobu..
No idea what this glue is made of, but it must be incredibly strong to withstand the forces pulling on that leather.
My thought it's a sort of animal gelatin, like fish or rabbit skin glue that's ground into a powdered form, ready for activation upon hydrating? I could be wrong, though.
Don’t quote me on this, but I think that it might be made from rice. Even when it’s not used for glue, it is very sticky.
Yes, it’s a rice based glue. Very common in Asia.
i want that glue ...no worry of it drying on the self
Just Wow!
Interesting 😍 , music is a God gift for human being. God has bestowed extra blessings to the instrument maker. 😊 🙏
Very interesting. I enjoyed it very much. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺

First japanese craftsmen i saw who is Not working on ground
Amazing
A shamisen is equivalent to a banjo. They even sound somewhat similar. 🙂
Viva japan
He needs to give a masterclass on that glue
What kind of leather is used for the top and bottom face of the body?
Cat
Great video, thank you.
This video is 16 minutes long. How long in real time does the process of making a Shamisen actually take? Thank you.
I read somethere shamisens were traditionally covered with a leather made from cat or dog skin traditionally. I wonder if they still use it nowerdays.
They only use skins of dogs that committed suicide. (Wikipedia)
Now I want one.
As usual fastidious Japanese manufacture, but not too enamoured by the sound..
Everything just looks so asian. Even a simple clamp in Japan looks traditional.
Bravo

What kind of starch does he use for the glue? Is that sweet rice powder, or not food?
Wow❤
IIRC, the leather used is made of cat hide (the domesticated kind) unless they changed the process...
Cat is the highest quality. They also use dog or duck hide. However, they are now coming up with quality synthetic material.

As far as i know it is just friction. Precision fitted friction.

Wonder how he'd be on a banjo
But, can it play Stairway To Heaven?
Wow the GLUE
What are the skins treated with before they are placed and stretched?
how long will it take to make one ?

Kubo and the Two Strings!
Is it made from dog/cat skin still?
At least add commentary subtitle please, so that we could understand the process, materials, etc.
