    This was my Number 1 game last year played though it 3 times and completed all the side content and the dlc absolutely amazing fun game and the side quests just helped me feel immersed in the world. My only complaint would be the game does tend to be an ability spammy because hitting enemies with anything else feels like slapping em with a wooden spoon. Still loved the game tho.

    • @RPGStory
      @RPGStory  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I used to spam all of my abilities then do some brief combos until they all charged again and repeat 😂 it did feel really cool though. I haven't played the DLC I should probably pick those up.

    I'm still not a big fan of the ending, the main villain, how some characters were handled, the lack of rewarding exploration and rpg mechanics, the MMO style fetch quests that added very little beside stopping the pacing to a halt, Clive's standard sword moveset being so limited, Ifrits moveset being *even* more limited, and the use of a mechanic as unengaging as cooldowns in a fast paced hack n slash game.
    Most people say i dislike the combat because it is an action game, but rather its the opposite, i dislike it because it's not action *enough* . No amounts of skilled play will get the cooldowns back any faster, getting rewarded for waiting just isn't very exciting, the moveset being limited to only 6 abilities at a time doesn't help either. But i agree with you that that combo potential is still very large, i myself did have the most fun styling on enemies and swapping between builds despite my gripes with the limitations.
    And i can admit it is a well made game that succeeded at a lot of things it tried to do, even if i wasn't particularly a fan of them. I liked most of the characters and the boss fights were some of the most hype thing ever, some real Asura's Wrath energy there. I’d say better than XIII and XV as in its a complete game , but the complete game itself it’s aggressively middle of the road both as an action game and an rpg. Making you pay $25 DLC for a $70 game also rubbed me off the wrong way, just because it is normalized in modern gaming didn't make it any better, especially since it added such little content compared to some of the other games from Square Enix themselves, i expected them to be better than this. My first two playtrough were the most fun, unlocking more abilities and experimenting with all kinds of different combos, its only on the third playtrough i started noticing all the flaws. Despite all that i do believe this is a very high quality game that a lot of people would enjoy.

      Yeah I agree with your criticisms especially once you play enough and take a step back things start to stand out more. I still finished the game 100% so I must have really enjoyed the game on some level haha.

      I like soulslikes too but this was never marketed to be one so your expectations were your own let down. FF was not ever and will not ever be focused on the combat. Its the story, characters, and music that draw true FF fans in and it has been that was since day one. I could make solid arguments that most FF games had average combat at best but that was never the reason I played.

      I've been a FF fan since the first game came out in the 80s and the saddest thing to me is watching people my age, now approaching their 40s mind you, throwing a fit every time a FF game or JRPG in general isn't turn based. Especially since plenty of turn based games still get made so there is no magical lack of turn based games like they claim every time a new FF is action based. But on the same note, even as a soulslike fan, I am getting tired of that community bashing every ARPG that doesn't play exactly like Elden Ring. There is room for difference and change isn't that big of a deal. lol I also highly expect a future FF game to return to turn based because every FF since the first has had different combat systems.

    FF16 is very much a guilty pleasure for me. On the one hand I see its issues: not a lot of variety with its gameplay, severe lack of RPG mechanics, weak side quests and little reason to explore hold the game back.
    On the other hand, the game shows its strengths with the story it tells, its world building, its breathtaking visuals and one of the most satisfying action game plays I have ever played. And do I need to talk about the Eikon battles? The game's highs are among the highest of the industry.
    And then, there is the Arcade Mode. I think I have earned the right to judge it, because I completely S-Ranked the game on Ultimaniac, scoring Top 10 on the leaderboards a few times. It is...a mess. It feels like the reason as to why the game lacks so much in variety, because balancing a lot of RPG systems in that mode would be impossible. But the entire mode is counterintuitive to what the game teaches you in its runtime.
    So, in the main game, your job is pretty clear: deal damage, a lot of it. Use your best abilities, get rid of small fry quickly, stagger big guys and beat them into submission. Now, Arcade mode puts the entire thing on its head! You're supposed to squeeze out enemies like lemons for points, using as many green and rainbow abilities as possible. And to do that, you need to actively keep them alive, while on the same time, managing your health and time, because if you're not aggressive enough, you lose your crucial time bonus, if you're too aggressive, welp, get A and B on every leg and lose all your potions. But weirdly enough, once you're really into it, it becomes strangely motivating, because you never interact with the systems like this in the main game.
    Tl;dr: I love FF16 and will defend it from anyone saying it's a bad game, but I will also never deny its flaws...

    • @RPGStory
      @RPGStory  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I think that's a great way to see it; its got flaws and won't please every fan but what it does well it does it extremely well. Also I never tried the arcade mode it sounds like a whole new way to play. I'll need to try it and the dlc as I've heard those are worthwhile too.

  • @NeutralGloomBot

    FFXVI was fantastic. Best story telling, character development, and music in a FF game since X with ease. I think where some people didn't like this game comes from their own expectations vs what the game was always going to be. You have the older diehard fans who reject all JRPGs that aren't turn based and constantly rag on non turn based games, a crowd mind that thinks they are much larger than the loud minority they actually are. Then there the soulslikes fans who think any ARPG that isn't a soulslike clone is instant garbage and those people are just as annoying. The majority of people I talked to that played this game loved it for what is was and that is the point. Every criticism of this game comes from people who wish it was something else even tho they knew for four years that is was going to exactly what it ended up being and that is not valid criticism. Its just outright whining over "wah wah I didn't the combat I wanted" 🙄

    • @RPGStory
      @RPGStory  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely the best since X for me as well. I enjoy turn based and action based equally so I played FFXVI and DQXI and loved both. I don't feel as though FF needs to go back to turn based as it's evolved quite well into the action genre also with FFVII remake and rebirth being great to play.
