Welcome to the Trails series! Love the accent btw! Hope you end up enjoying Daybreak and aren't too bothered by the references to past entries. It's a great game, and this series is 100% worth the investment if it resonates with you. One of the reasons it gets such high praise from it's niche community is because it does something no other series has attempted to do in terms of the long running narrative, constant worldbuilding, attention to tiny details most would deem insignificant, and some of the best interactable npc's on the market. The great thing is if you finish Daybreak and want more, there's a whole buffet of content for you to enjoy. Would def recommend release order as it's the optimal way to experience everything. But if you reach the end and decide "meh, it's not really something I'm too keen on" that's totally fine too. Just glad more people are giving this series a chance! Thanks for the lovely video, it was concise and to the point 👍
Haha thank you! Yeah I'm also playing Sky FC at the moment and loving it there's something about the isometric style that fits so well and I love the dialogue and Estelle. There's a lot of games to get through but I'll savour it.
I started with Daybreak (having bought everything along the way but never really jumped to the top of my list) and loved it so much that I jumped straight into Zero afterwards (my Sky games and the platforms they are on are all in storage). Azure next, then Cold Steels and Reverie, at which point Daybreak 2 could well be out.
Trails is so underrated, i can recommend the series to every Jrpg player, also the Steam Versions of Trails in the Sky are amazing and are beloved by the community due to technical perfect port and the amazing translation (and thats one hell of an achievement given how text rich this game is)
I disagree trails isn't for everyone , it excels at world building and needs the player to engage in it. Otherwise it's other aspects are in general pretty mediocre which is why it stays more niche. If that's your thing you love it , if it's not you're likely pretty bored
The trails series while having many flaws is still amazing and scratches an itch for me not found in any other game series. That was a really well put together summary of the series and in such a short amount of time!
I think the last series to get me hooked was Yakuza and from what I've heard Trails is well known for getting its hooks into gamers so I'm hopeful I'll feel the same once I start getting through them.
@@RPGStoryfunny. I loved LaD7 so much that I worked my way through all of the series and the spin offs. I just finished Daybreak a while ago and jumped straight into Zero so pretty much the parallel experience 😊
I hope you love Trails in the Sky FC as much as I did when I played it about 8 years ago! It was the first Trails game I played. It's my favorite even after playing the next 9 games because Estelle is still the Best! lol
I'm about 20 hours in near the end of chapter 2 I believe and loving it. You're absolutely right Estelle is an excellent character and I like her back and forth with Joshua. I've heard a lot of people say Van from Daybreak is the best but for me he's nowhere near as interesting as Estelle.
I love the trails series but I wish they would remaster the pre-Trails Legend of Heroes games. I have the Gagharv trilogy (Legend of Heroes III through V. Trails starts with Legend of Heroes VI) but I would love to be able to play them without digging out my PSP. And I played a friends copy of Legend of Heroes I but never owned it (It was only released on the TG-16 in the US) while II never made it to the US so I would love to have them brought west.
That's a good point I have no idea about the legend of heroes games pre trails. I'll need to check them out and see if they are vastly different from trails.
@@RPGStory If you try the Gagharv games the release order in the west is wrong. They released the second game in the trilogy Tears of Vermillion here first then added a II to the title of Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch, which is actually first game of the trilogy, when it released here
I'm excited to play through them I feel like I've missed out over all these years. I remember seeing Sky FC the day it released on psp and had no idea it would become the series it has today.
@@RPGStory ahah i got into it so late as well, like 2017? ended up binge playing the whole sky, zero then cold steel series one after the other XD cold steel 3 and 4 weren't even translated at the time so the time skip hype WAS REALLLL
@@RPGStory kinda hard to do when they pop up on sale and then stumble on these gems. Unfortunately for the last 10 years or so most of my game time was spent on MMO and online service games. They’re the reason why my library is massive.
I mean honestly you should only play this game if you have no job. Because the only way to understand everything is to play pretty much every single game and there is so many and they're all like 30 or 40 hours~~
Trails through daybreak is so boring, looks plays and feels like a ps3 game Wish i saved my 40 bucks but lesson learned No idea how falcom and their shitty looking games with the most basic mechanics get such high praise Every single weapon looks the exact same, just a stat Even ps1 games had differenf weapon models OG ffx on ps2 looks and plays so much better than this
Problem at 3.44: You said Trails through daybreak is a good jumping in point. It's not. The things they mention and the way the story works, it assumes that you already have prior knowledge of how things work. Newer players should absolutely not start here. The latest start that would not ruin everything is cold steel. But even then, you should still play trails in the sky series, the crossbell duology, and the Cold steel series before jumping into daybreak.
@@RPGStory there are way too many callbacks to previous games. The protagonist himself is more “knowledgable” as such the plot does not really stop to explain things that were explained in previous games. It’s a very bad starting point and those other TH-camrs are wrong. While it’s a new cast and a new arc, it builds on previous knowledge heavily.
I can't stand this series, this series represents everything wrong with modern JRPGs. It's literally every single anime trope you can think of thrown into a blender and placed in the most mundane, boring universe I've ever encountered. There's nothing original here but people claim that this game has the best world building ever... in the most boring world possible, I struggle to see how that's even remotely enjoyable. If you want world building, play Valkyrie Profile instead, that actually has an interesting world. So I don't understand why anyone needs to play such a slogfest of a series, 60 hours of subplots only for a not so shocking reveal and an "ehh ok" reveal at the end of the first chapter, closely followed up by another 60 hour game that's a persona knock off trying to do the whole high school sim crap that I am so fed up of seeing in JRPGs. I'd have more fun watching paint dry. If you want a good JRPG, play something along the lines of Grandia II or Shadow Hearts or Valkyrie Profile 2, don't bother with this one.
I'm always really curious to hear opposing opinions since all I ever hear are people gushing over Trails which hypes it up pretty radically. I've put in about 20 hours into Daybreak and it's okay nothing ground breaking I was expecting a lot more due to the hype but I'll give the games a chance and see what I think. Funny you should mention Shadow Hearts I just started it last night. Big fan of Koudelka as well.
@@RPGStory Shadow Hearts is one of a kind, great atmosphere but also a great story and battle system, the protagonist is awesome, it's an improvement on Koudelka if you ask me.
I really enjoy survival horror games so was surprised to find a game like Koudelka and Shadow Hearts. I know there's a spiritual sequel in the works too, Penny Blood I think the name was.
just an fyi, barfing all over a series isn't a great way to get those fans interested in the titles you claim to be "better" Just breeds contempt for those games you want others to try instead, actually leading to less people wanting to listen to your recommendations in the first place. You can say you dislike something without the needless trash talk
Who asked? You ain't the overlord of JRPGs and you clearly don't know shit when you think Trails in the Sky SC is a Persona knock off. Literal clown behaviour making bold ass claims like you've made without even explaining your point.
