    Cultural differences are the wealth of humanity! Even if we don't fully understand some or don't have deeper knowledge of them, it doesn't mean they are wrong or should be judged and questioned. Their families look truly happy! The children are most likely not aware of what's happening, but they'll probably appreciate the experience, maybe the choice, certainly the knowledge acquired in that 3-weeks long school when they grow up!
    Will these ten children we saw actually permanently stay being monks or this is just temporary, from one ceremony in Buddha's honor until his birthday?
    Can they later in adolescence choose not to be monks? Are there some significant implications that drastically change their lives and possibilities? Can they be in a relationship? Will they return home or live separately from their families from now on? Does the use of formal language continue after the end of this 3-week period?...

      so what? not all kids are happy when you take away their candy.
      you think kids have a choice? if you leave kids to their own devices, they would, for example, only eat candy - and die.
      parents only have the right to guide and tell them whats right and wrong. kids are not happy being sent to bed either.
      this stupid over-sensitive view of westerners needs to stop. its childish. like a crying kid, who had their candy taken away.

    Leaving aside the forced shaving of heads, those are 6-7 y/o kids Leaving their homes (I am assuming probably) mostly because of their parents... One of the kids obviously wasn't happy to be there.

      @@DJAZfake but in Buddhism it is important for an monk to shave their heads and also their parents are doing this for them only. In that 2-3 weeks that children must have learned so much and it's not only like doing meditation all the time, so many activities for the children's must have also been conducted.

      People in the comment section talk as if those kids were taken to slavery or used for other purposes. Hair is just a mare thing; cutting it won't make us ill. Those kids will be learning moral values and discipline and will even learn to respect others.

    • @emilialee909
      @emilialee909 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually kids DO have the say in it. Of course their patents recommend them to do it but they wont’t let them participate it unless the kids say that they are willing to do it. However regardless of their previous decision and expectation, it is a daunting experience for young children to be in front of the crowd and get their heads shaved. It’s natural they cry. It’s not a case of child abuse so don’t overreact.
