- Sky Burial In Tibet | Buddhism
Sky burial is a funeral practice in which a human corpse is placed on a mountaintop to decompose while exposed to the elements or to be eaten by scavenging animals, especially carrion birds. It is a specific type of the general practice of excarnation. It is practiced in the Chinese provinces and autonomous regions of Tibet, Qinghai, Sichuan and Inner Mongolia, as well as in Mongolia, Bhutan and parts of India such as Sikkim and Zanskar.
The locations of preparation and sky burial are understood in the Vajrayana Buddhist traditions as charnel grounds. Comparable practices are part of Zoroastrian burial practices where deceased are exposed to the elements and scavenger birds on stone structures called Dakhma. Few such places remain operational today due to religious marginalisation, urbanisation and the decimation of vulture populations
It is a realty that Body without soul is not any use... atleast it has ability searving bird like Veltures.... Great philosophy.... Need to survive and spread this tradition ......

But without the spirit or soul, the body is nothing but meat and bone. That is very respectful of the dead - which is respectful of the soul
Vel-ture ; very Well - literature.
Body parts can also be donated. Donating eyes and other useful organs after death can benefit other humans. Isn't it?
Nice 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Good
I love the people of Tibet, the people of Tibet are very wise, kind and beautiful, man is an animal like thousands of other animals in nature, heaven and hell, and the gods have been the biggest deception in the history of the world. so that they can easily have all the lives and wealth of the people under their control, I am an Iranian and I am very much in love with the civilization and culture of the beautiful country of Tibet, I am proud of you❤

Many people here find sky burials disgusting because their worldview is limited, only considering cremation and traditional burial as acceptable methods of handling the body after death. I argue that sky burials are a more compassionate way to handle the body after death. In sky burials, the vultures are fed, which are seen as lower beings. In Buddhism, it is believed that by sacrificing yourself for lower beings, you can achieve a higher state of life, benefiting both yourself and those you have sacrificed for.
Not only that, but sky burials may also be more compassionate than cremation and regular burial. With regular burial, the ceremony is done with very sad emotions, and oftentimes after burial, the body is only left there to rot. With cremation, you are basically burning the corpse to ash, and it could be seen as cruel and disgusting. But with sky burial, it is done with a solemn yet hopeful tone, and you also help the vultures whether they need any help or not.
I think the only part of this that bothers me is to see them carry around pieces of it to give to the birds, it feels unsanitary to me. I'm sure it was cleaned well and I'm only bothered by it bc of my upbringing. It's much better than burial or burning the body.
If we can eat animals meat than why not they ours?

This looks like the ritual is in Bhutan
Pretty good way for burial....how long will it take for the vultures pick everything to the bone. Will they completely clean everything in a single go or does the body have to be left in the open for say 3 days or something like that
Apenas 15 minutos já estará só ossos.
Pretty good?
In Tibetan shaivism too last rites are performed in same way not burial...but they return "asthi" after feeding to family.. as proof of burial and further leaving them in rakshas sar...

I respect ones beliefs. I myself do not want my remains to end up in a box in the ground. I have seen where graves ended up with buildings on top. With cremation my atoms will be dust and a part of this world forever but with due respect, To end up being bird crap coming out of a birds ass on a rock, I just don't get it
Indeed sky burial have more deeper meaning
This involves the belief that even after becoming a corpse, it can still be meaningful for the survival of other creatures. In any way, whether cremated, buried or eaten by animals, all will become soil.
atleast they will get some hunger relieve....this is your ego thinking u r superior to a bird
No sir. Not superior. But not in the same league with an animal with a brain the size of a pea.@@WaMo721
What happened if nobody die ,and what will the scavenger eat

Sorry, it's a sad culture 😔
This involves the belief that even after becoming a corpse, it can still be meaningful for the survival of other creatures. In any way, whether cremated, buried or eaten by animals, all will become soil.
cant care any less of your opinion
Weird, idiot people...they don't know what they are saying or doing...how cruel is this.
this is because you don't understand the view of buddhism
It's not really cruel, since the person is already deceased. They're just feeding the vultures with the body, which is seen as a way for the deceased to return to nature. It's a cultural practice that's done with the person's permission and actually helps the local ecosystem. So, it's not as harsh as it may seem at first glance.
In Tibet, they don't always choose sky burials - sometimes the rocky, frozen ground makes it the only option. But it's actually a pretty efficient and caring way to lay a body to rest. Plus, it's a cool thought that even after you're gone, you're still giving back in some way.
