This video must have found its way to TH-cam almost after 30 years as per my rough calculation. I can still vividly remember receiving Cha Wang (Palm/Hand Blessing) from young Kalu Rimpoche while Rimpoche and his entourage slowed their vehicle to give blessing to the Monggar Primary School students who were lined up on the roadside on their en route to Samdrup Jongkhar/Tashigang.

This article about old Tibet is worth sharing.
"History clearly reveals that the old Tibet was not the Shangri-La that many imagine", he wrote "but a society under a system of feudal serfdom."
Until 1959, when China cracked down on Tibetan rebels and the Dalai Lama fled to northern India, around 98% of the population was enslaved in serfdom. Drepung monastery, on the outskirts of Lhasa, was one of the world's largest landowners with 185 manors, 25,000 serfs, 300 pastures, and 16,000 herdsmen. High-ranking lamas and secular landowners imposed crippling taxes, forced boys into monastic slavery and pilfered most of the country's wealth - torturing disobedient serfs by gouging out their eyes or severing their hamstrings.
Perhaps the reason the Dalai Lama is smiling in all those photos has something to do with the six-figure salary he pulled down from the U.S. government during the 1960s. According to declassified intelligence documents, he earned $180,000 in connection with the CIA's funding of the Tibetan Resistance to the tune of $1.7 million per year. The idea was to disrupt and hamper China's infrastructure.

I took refuge in one his shrines in Portland, Oregon, in 2000. They had a huge foto of Kalu Rinpoche on the shrine room wall. I use to sit at practice and directly look at him. But over time he would come to me in my dreams and speak to me but I couldn't hear him , but when left me he would bless me which I would remember who I awoke. Then he was found in this incarnation and it was announced at all his shrines. I was astounded he was dead because in my dreams he was so very real. Now at 80, I know this was a blessing that had a profound upon my spiritually. If you think this is bullsh*te, just wait until you last illness comes at the time of your death. You will marvel at the spiritual practice path before you enter before you take your last breath.

They still have not achieve Enlightenment of the buddha which will need many lifetimes. So you should strive your own cultivation just as hard working as them, I am sure you can achieve something. But stay close to them not one but many and learn from their high achievements, how they achieve short cut lesser time to achieve certain skills of attainments.

This is cool and all... and I say this as someone who has met the Dalai Lama three times (very nice and wise guy), and stayed in a Dharamsala monastery for 5 months, but I think it's kind of messed up to deprive children of their childhood because of an unfounded belief in reincarnation. Even the Dalai Lama said that when Buddhist doctrine conflicts with science, go with science. Go ahead, bring on the criticism, but if reincarnation were verifiable we would know about it by now. The only tenuous evidence we have is the contentious research of one man, Dr. Ian Stevenson, whose research hasn't been able to be replicated. And Tibetan boys (always boys... go figure) selecting three of the same toys as their predecessors. I'm not sure anyone who believes in that knows how statistics work.

Buddhism is everything which God is except they don't believe in The Creator God at The Helm.
The Monks who go searching for their Dalai Lama are like The Three Wise Men, they move with The Wind and they can't be wrong. A little more than the child choosing three recognisable toys is involved.

I love his videos. I do researchBuddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha.

I always find it super weird how a lot of modern day Buddhism has become so utterly materialistic. 1,000s of offerings? The crazy glitzy temples and monasteries? and the whole concept of that mandala goes against Buddha's original teachings as far as I understand them.

      This isn't how it works.
They do not just randomly choose children based on looks.
In most cases the Lama will leave instruction about which region he will be reborn in.
then monks go there and place objects before various children in the area. The child must choose the objects that belonged to the previous incarnation.
In some rare cases parents bring their kids to the monks after they say or do something. But of course in a part of the world with a lot of poverty the monks are scrupulous not to have a child pawned off on them.

Very educative. I love his videos. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to you.

So for a bit of recap and asking for explaining. As far as i know. The Dalai Lama we know (Tenzin Gyatso) is still alive. But if this kid is his Reincarnation, does this mean the Dalai Lama is dead?
Or something else? See.... i did kind a research that there are two types of Lama. The Dalai Lama, and the Panchen Lama. Now they basically guess each of its reincarnation (Tenzin Gyatso himself was recognized from previous Panchen Lama, and he also was recognized from previous Dalai Lama. Kinda like Tibetan Buddhist long version of Tag game). So i kinda wonder if this kid, is actually Panchen Lama? Since there is also another claim laid by Chinese CCP that they alreasy found a reincarnation of Panchen Lama like. Long long ago.

Sino tibet language derived from northern China around 7000 years ago and probably interacted culture with mongolic people up north during the time. During the tibet emperor days before Buddhism arrived, there seems to be crossing between north and Central Asia between tibet. The facial painting like red face paint and black mask paint around the eyes like zoro mask was popular but most of their cultures have died after conversion to Buddhists. There are many Tibetan sub groups. Southern hill tribe Tibetan descent like lhoba still wear turquoise and feathers. Even naga wear their chokers and feather head with tattoos. The magars of himalyans practice the shaking and drumbeat jingles. There seems to be a new human remain found in red deer cave people in Yunnan pointing to American dna as well.

I feel so very sorry for this child. Picked at random by religious fanatics and has his whole life changed for the worst. If you don't see a problem with treating a child in this way, you are blinded by your beliefs and are casting away modern liberties and values. I'm all for people practicing whatever religion and traditions they want, but it should not be at the detriment of those most vulnerable.

Assuming that you live in the US, the same thing can be said about your society where its children are forced to be in a facsimile prison (“school”) for 18 years of their lives, sit for 8 hours a day, under the authority of somebody else, filling their brains with propaganda and useless subjects that prepares them very little for the “real world.” This cannot be healthy! What happens with atypical children who cannot sit still even for 2 minutes? They are castigated or drugged up with pills and medications. They are under the scrutiny of a school system that forces them to memorize how to take standardized tests while depriving them of a wholesome education all for the sake of corrupt school board that take money from the government and pocket it for themselves while doing absolutely nothing to improve the field of education. Or do you not see this because you are so myopic. Ignorance is bliss…

@@I_leave_mean_comments this is not true Buddhism, this is Buddhism mixed with traditional Chinese/tibetan culture. And sexual abuse is going to be very common when homosexuals try to seek refuge from the obvious lay homophobic community in the Buddhist monk order. The problem is mismanagement. Buddha has told/prohibited homosexuals to not be ordained as they should not be around such close proximity to male monks. Even in Sri lanka monks say today only 40% of the monks are true buddhist ok practitioners, the rest of the 60% is just people who were ordained to escape poverty and escape been engulfed in the thug and underworld section of the society.

    • @chilldragon4752

They have a whole process for it. For example, when a lama dies and is to be reborn they will take a lot of things that the lama owns, mix it in with things that they do not own, and will lay it out in front of children. The children will one by one have to pick each thing correctly. This can be as little as 4 items or much more. There is more involved but this is just one thing they do in the process.

From what I gathered, there's certain tests that are performed to discover whether a young child is a Tulku. Sometimes the monks will test the child by showing the child objects that belonged to the former lama amongst objects that have no significance. They also take the death date of the former lama into consideration. They used a golden urn for 2 past lamas where lots were drawn to choose the next lama, but this has since stopped as there was no spiritual quality. Just to note, those who were chosen as lamas through using the Golden Urn as a guide were already discovered by more traditional means prior to using the urn, they just used the urn as a confirmation. It's a pretty complicated system.
