You can tell that Mackie is still playing his way back into shape. But he is one of the best movers I have ever seen. At full speed, he is flying out there. It’s beautiful to watch. When he gets match tough, he could have a good year. Great footage here.
Oh Mackenzie. I really do hope he can build his fitness and stay away from injuries. His game is the most dynamic out of all the American players we have. It was so tough to see his energy dip in the Australian open. It looks like with this match he's still working on his fitness. Stay strong Mack!
Enjoy watching everyone of your videos. Love that they're court level so you get a fresh perspective and can learn a lot from watching them. Thank you for the great work!
Crazy how stacked USC was when Ray was playing 2 for them. Saw Johnson and him play at UCLA, maybe on the same day? Johnson's kick serve was ridiculous in person. Can't remember who played 1 for UCLA that day. Wasn't Mackie or somebody who normally played 1 for them.
Sarmiento has a really nice Federer-esque forehand. Must be close to Fed's Eastern forehand grip, no? Service motion reminds me of Dimitrov as well. Smooth. Two excellent players. Thx for the vid.
Some very interesting fact not many people will notice is that he keeps the 2nd serve ball in his right pocket. Its interesting as most right handers keep it in their left.
What happened to Mackies game? He used to control the points, now it seems he's content with just getting the ball in play with no purpose. I hope he finds his game again.
Ray is having a solid week in Newport and is still in QF while the top seeds (Fritz, Tiafoe, and Kecmanovic) all lost today in R16 and Stevie Johnson barely survived. Rough couple of weeks for Mackie - blew a 2 sets lead to Evans at AusOpen and did not play his best here in Newport Beach. Hopefully, he'll bounce back
They aren’t rallying at all too many errors. Could be nerves but they need to construct the points better and definitely work on consistency and stop going for the lines, leave a margin for error

Mackie came a bit after the Johnson years. I believe Clay Thompson was UCLA's #1 at the time followed by Giron.
It was probably daniel kosakowski or giron, not sure. Those were the ucla 1s
wow it been 4 years since UCLA. times fly

10S Lover His serve is very nice and fluid. Technically sound for sure.

Both of them have similar service motions and forehand strokes
macdonald keeps his racket more open on takeback and hits flatter

I mean he did recently come back from being injured
Nothing wrong with his game, he'll get rolling. Coming back from injuries is tough
How come ive never heard of Ray Sarmiento? He looks really solid and is going toe to toe with mackie here.
keep in mind mackie had knee surgery a few months ago and is still recovering
@@omegachen oh, didn't realize

His backhand is def better from his days at USC. solid player.
Ray is also making a come back after a year off after having hip surgery
Why does Mackie keep the ball in his right pocket when he serves? lol
I can't believe you found a professional who does this
I was about to say the same.. really strange, maybe something superstitious.. or he has already hit the ball with his backhand maybe
is sarmiento using the 97HD 18x20? or the 330 16x19?

Easier said then done...matchs are a different story
Mackie puts the ball in his right pocket what a psycho
0:08 why did they stop?
Believe it was a let on a second serve.
when did mackie clone himself
both have similar style, especially the serve
どっちもバックが綺麗だ✨
I'm gonna buy a ticket to watch this match, and really just talk about random low level stuff out loud the entire time. FFS....
And who are you
@@nickrazo6283 Another person who doesn't care what those dudes are talking about. There are several of us. Cheers.
this video is not playing at normal speed, someone sped it up
Video was not sped up at all during editing. Only editing that was done to the original video was to cut out the time between points.
Professional tennis is very fast, maybe because it is court level you are able to feel the difference?
that guy in the black shirt moves so fast between the points. he looks like robot
