I remember liking Michelsen last year, even if he lost all matches and most of them in tiebreaks because he got guts and was coming often to the net, this year he did that rarely.
Don't want to underestimate the guys in Red group, but the Blue group seems much tougher and packed with talent. I was expecting Fils and Mensik to be the favourites, but I knew Fonseca and Tien were not easy opponents and they've both proved it. Great performances and any two of them can make it to the semis. One other thing - bringing the real tennis events, which should be highlights of the season for players, to Saudi Arabia is just wrong and sad. They don't care about the sport enough to show up in the stands unless it's something like the Six Kings Slam exhibition which is totally over the top. I know WTA Finals and Next Gen ATP finals don't have that superstar factor but in most places in Europe or America they would have decent audience. These talented players really deserve more than those empty stands.
Yeah, pure money motivated moves. It's sad. There's places and countries that could use to events to help the economy and social situation. Saudi Arabia just seems like a showcase to attract money and medias.
Gotta say, these young guns are playing some pretty amazing tennis. Just incredible. Loved these matches, and the last one, wow, what a crazy, tight, match. Thank you!
I just came here to say that the 4 games sets, game points at deuce etc just kills the soul of tennis. It is, aside from aesthetica, about battles, ups and downs within a set, the possibility of seemingly never ending games where one can hang on in. These scoring rules take away all of that. If they would ever decide the regular tour is played by these rules I would be gutted.
Not that this was ever a very serious tournament but this year it feels like ATP have just completely given up trying to make this work and said let's make some money. Take it to Saudi where no one's watching tennis, evident by the embarrassingly empty stands, and put it right in the middle of the player's winter break so all the top players are completely unready and you got yourself a hell of a tournament. Honestly who makes these decisions?
I don't think he has a "belly". Two things, posture and the way you're built will make it so the belly is more or less forward. Secondly, some people might think that if we don't see a 6 pack that means the guy is fat. You can have a normal bodyfat %, very healthy and not have abs visible. Gym culture has kinda brainwashed some people.
0:26 is precisely why the slice has vanished in ATP tennis. You can play it on grass, but guys like Fils will absolutely punish it if it doesn't land within inches of the baseline. Fonseca got away with one. Great defense.
Yeah there used to be more grass tournaments and also carpet courts, slice used to drop lower. Now on a lot of surfaces it just gives an easy ball. Most decisions regarding equipment, courts and balls manufacture encourage hitting hard.
Decent overhead, then actually a tough ball to finish with little time to think. Might have seemed ridiculous but was actually totally understandable. Still, Im not a Michelsen fan, I dont think he has what it takes
@@senders779Tough to do what he was trying to do, but if he let it bounce, it would be the easiest ball to make an unreturnable smash. He panicked like an amateur.
He could, but it's a bit early to say don't you think? Especially since Sinner has only just started winning slams while Fonseca is barely on the ATP tour.
Mensik-Tien was crazy man, definitely atp level
This is a very exciting next gen finals group. Lots of strong players this year. Fils, Mensik, Fonseca and Tien all have very high ceilings.
Yeah the blue group is quite a bit stronger than the red one, in terms of the players potential especially.
Wait they’re all in one group 😂
Nishesh is such a nice guy I’m glad to see him getting this opportunity
Exciting first day with some upsets already!
This is going to be interesting.
Deus abençoe e o livre de lesões! Orgulho nacional! 💚🇧🇷👑

Fonseca jugó muy bien, igualmente fils, pero que chulada de partido.

Cant agree more. A tournament like this deserves a crowd watching live and supporting the newcomers.
Amazing event, not so amazing venue.
And the ballboys and ballgirls were terrible, like they've never volunteered at a tourney before

Fonseca será um monstro
Tien was holding onto dear life in the 5th set 😂😂
Loving this format. Quick but fair to the players as well.....
Good win for Luca. 👍
Nishesh played so well…I hope he gets a few wins in this event
LET'S GO FONSECA!!!🇧🇷💪💪🔥🔥
Despite Fils, Mensik, and Michelson being seasoned ATP players with higher ranking, their "lesser" opponents put up strong resistance today.
All favourites lost except Michelsen
Oh yeah basavareddy brown boys up with this one FR!! 🔥🔥

I agree. Also, scrapping lets off serves that hit the net cord is so disagreeable for me.

how is fonseca 18 with a belly the amount of physical activity he does
genetic

Tien is so impressive.
Shang reminds me of Shapovalov. So much potential but always not performing during crunch time

Dan Evans and Dimitrov want to know your location bro

All of the matches went against the odds, except for the one won by Michelsen...
Why is the stadium empty
I watched the Fils vs. Fonseca match and couldn’t understand why the stadium was about 85 percent empty or 15 percent full.
Cause it's in Jeddah, people don't give a shit about tennis
Van Assche vs Medvedev is gonna be the biggest head to head in tennis history
great!!!!! thanks Fonseca! 🙂
Vamos Fonseca
fils looks to have an issue with his leg, i think mensik beats him tommorow
7:35 WOW how do you mess that up man

Nishesh Basavareddy is from Indiana same as me and I have a win over bro 🤣 I knew he was good but the fact that he made it to the ATP
Quite a few upsets.
The ranking doesn’t mean anything. Any higher ranked player can lose on his bad day and any lower ranked player can win.
FONSECA SOON TO BE IN THE TOP 5 😊
Hopefully they get some people on the stands
Let's go learner!!!
Vamoo🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🚀
Empty stands.... sad
That's not great for tennis.
mensik today's performance was a shame.....he practically lost all pressure points and his forehand was just futures level. So disappointing
I feel as though mensik is a tad overrated... maybe I'm wrong but his groundstrokes just don't inspire me the way a player like Fonseca's do
@@strider8816 it is/was the same with Djokovic. Unassuming at first sights. Mensik modelled his style to the Serb.
Fils and Mensik already losing
Fonseca will win more grand slams than Sinner
I will win the lottery
Tomorrow
Hello.
@@DillDillersoncry more.
Lolwat

Shang should start playing pickeball what a dummy cant put a ball in play , all out😂
