I think the best example of Natalie's unaired social game, is how she makes it past F5. Brett wins Immunity and the Foa Foa Four must vote put one of their own. They all want to keep the strongest competitor's, in order to beat Brett. And some how despite Natalie being physically the weakest Russell, Mick and Jaison never considers loosing her, and instead we see the two stronger players targeting each other.
Just showed my buddies this season and their direct quote about Russell was “he’s both the best and worst player I’ve ever seen all at once” and honestly that’s dead on haha
If they gave Brett more of an edit then it'd be more of a build up for the final immunity showdown you knew he wasn't winning from the beginning of his immunity run his edit was so small.
After rewatching the season in preparation, I was much lower on the season than I thought I’d be. Forgot about Russell throwing socks into the fire at the reunion which is an all time moment, can’t wait to listen!!
It’s definitely a season that’s worse on a rewatch for me. At the time it was monumental to see russell in action, we never had a character as blatantly villainous as he was and it was captivating at the time. now after seeing russell a bunch of times and knowing exactly how and why his game is flawed, it doesn’t really live up. i found myself wondering why i wasn’t seeing more of natalie, jaison, or one of the many great characters on galu that get hugely robbed of screentime like dave, laura, yasmin, etc
Reading interviews from the jury. They said Russell insulted and treated the jury very badly during the finals. He was mocking them and was very arrogant. He was really embodying the sore winner behavior. So even if the jury was sequestered, that alone will not make him win. Russell is just awful in finals. He doesn't know how to defend himself.
Tony win because he is humble and nice guys Russell lose because he is an asshole.. Also I hate the new jury system because game bots are more likely to win Russell took the wrong person to end that way he lost that is on Russell to know not to take someone like nattile to the end and tony can win with any jury situation because he is good person in real life
The tony/russell comparison is so odd to me. Tony never gets personal, even when he infamously fought with kass on his first season he wasn’t dragging her down, just basically expressing his frustration with her strategically. Maybe the closest he comes to being “mean” is calling morgan lazy or something. And it looks like he was actually a really pleasant presence on WoW. He never wants to make the people around him miserable.
@@bigbuffguy9589 i think tony’s strategic gameplay in cagayan was probably worse than russell’s in samoa, but tony is a much better social player while russell is abysmal. Overall tony is clearly a better player, especially after WaW where he was phenomenal in all aspects
Tony is like the non evil Russell, he thrives in chaos and only grows stronger, and while it’s a different strategy overall Tony absolutely dominates the game in a similar way. Tony also would get very paranoid and vote out threats as soon as they came up, and furthered idol play not only finding a ton but with his bag of tricks and lying about their specific powers.
Had Borassi not been medevaced does Liz make the merge? I wonder if she would have been loyal to Foa Foa/made a big impact on the game. She seemed intelligent but rubbed people the wrong way.
If Russell won Samoa, definitely he won't be in Redemption Island. I also think Brandon would not be in South Pacific. Instead, I think both Russell and Brandon will be in Blood vs Water 1.
People definitely overrate Natalie, she’s still a very weak winner, she wins more off of Russell’s mistakes over her own merits, she’s definitely not bad but has become a so underrated she’s now overrated
Rob is in the wrong spot and I don't like it. And the titles says "#26" but it's #25. Edit: Erik for second second chance! Edit 2: Natalie is leagues better than Ben, what are y'all on?
Not sure if I agree with 25 for Samoa. I think it should probably be in the teens somewhere. It has obvious flaws, but I think it has a very interesting unique story about the downfall of Russell. Its uniqueness makes it better than other middle of the road seasons for me.
Correct, this season should be 15 or better strictly due to showing how you can lead everything make flashy moves but if you don't treat the jury correctly you lose.
Rob can you post your full re-watch rankings so far in the comments here? Trying to keep track of all the survey results and everything in a spreadsheet but I didn't catch where Gabon landed last week. Glad All-Stars is finally coming up next I had it ranked at #39 that season is a disaster haha
The takeaway I get after listening to this is that Rob wholeheartedly thinks more of Russell that Natalie's game - his questions and comments are reading as dismissive towards her across the board.
I didn't get that impression at all from him! I'm shocked that that's the impression you got. I think he was just posing questions. He also made it clear that she's fully responsible for Erik.
I think as far as sequestered juries go for survivor and big brother, they could sequester them in a hotel for a day or two to reflect on their game and then rank the remaining players and then go home. The highest ranked player left at the end would get their vote
I think it would play better for me on a rewatch! Right now I only remember Michele's win being controversial and the ugly Scott/Jason stuff and it doesn't seem like it would be a fun watch. But I'm sure I'm forgetting the good parts
I think the cast is an upside for sure. Lots of big personalities. I watched Kaoh Rong for the first time in 2020 and thought Michele’s win was well deserved. Her last few tribals leading up to FTC are *chef’s kiss* phenomenal
obviously both natalie and sandra "deserved" it since they won the jury vote but i'd be MUCH more comfortable voting for natalie over russ than i would voting for sandra over russ
I have this season ranked #33 (this is the last season in my bottom 10). In my opinion, the only good episodes in this season were the Eric, Kelly, and Laura votes. The rest of the votes were not very exciting. The entire pre-merge was watching Galu destroy Foa Foa in challenges because Russell Hantz thought it'd be a great idea to control the camp by completely ruining camp life for them. Once we hit the merge, the Eric blindside was solid, but then the Kelly and Laura blindsides were probably the best part of the season. After that, the rest of the votes were very predictable, and in my opinion, the entire merge ended up turning into a Pagonging just with Brett's elimination being delayed a couple votes. The other main problem I have with this season is that we see so much Russell Hantz that when I rewatch it, it just upsets me that we didn't see more of Natalie's gameplay. If you're going to give a guy 110 confessionals in a season, he better winning, because I feel like that whole edit was just a waste of a season for them. I know Russell is entertaining television, but at least give Natalie a halfway decent edit. Plus, the edit made it predictable that an underdog like Brett wasn't gonna make it to the end either, so I'm not surprised he lost at 4th. Other people like Ben were awful in the pre-merge, and honestly, if I were to recommend this season, I'd just say to watch those first 3-4 episodes at the merge. I like watching Russell as much as the next guy, but this season could've been handled a lot better, but you might as well call it "The Russell Hantz Show" starring eventual winner Natalie White.
My first season live and yet I could tell it wasn't great, very bland and one-dimensional, if one person dominates it shows a failing in casting and lack of trust in the show. I had faith Survivor could do better.
@@Matt.Savage He’s not a bad player. But he is my least favorite to never win. And from a gameplay perspective even though he’s a good player he’s definitely not the the best to never win

Of all the alternate timeline edits for seasons of Survivor, I want to see the Samoa edit where Brett wins that last immunity the most.

Jeff actually predicted in his cast assessment that Russell would come 2nd
“He may come second. He sure ain’t going to win” were his exact words
@@landonweaver1040 I'm not sure if "he MAY come in 2nd" is the same as predicting he WILL come in second.

I wonder if Parvati and John got married just because they have the mutual experience of having to miserably live with Russell
LOLz
John liked russell, they remained friends after the season, john voted for russell.
I actually thought about that😂
