I love that Sugar and Susie were the only two people that even had a flame going at the final 9 immunity. Theyre the two people you’d probably least expect to know how to make a fire, and funny enough they’re also both at the final 4 and DONT have to make fire then.
This is the first time I coincidentally rewatched a season at the same time it was ranked, since I’m showing the show to my SO for the first time, and I can’t believe Gabon is ranked this low. Below all stars, africa, australia, even samoa?? Gabon has a fantastically crazy and chaotic cast, Sugar and Randy are both amazing television, its one of my favorite ones to rewatch so far. This is the first season so far that I think has been ranked too low until now, this is insane. Agree with Rob that people NEED to rewatch this.
@@randomer5555 yeah they probably thought it was cool because it was the first time seeing a cast of returnees which was mind blowing at the time, but its really no fun at all.

This was a fun podcast. Maggie and Phil were awesome, so good hearing people find the plus sides of all the Gabon characters, Randy, Sugar, Bob, Matty, Kenny, the extra love for Crystal, and even Susie! Whoever questions Gabon as a good season has to listen to this love fest and get the appreciation
I've said it before, and I hold to it, most people don't give Sugar enough credit. Sure she totally bombed the FTC, but she was one of the first unpredictable contestants on Survivor that got to the end. I'm not saying it's the best way to play, but on her season it got her far. Good to her the panel hear can give her credit for being in a pivotal position for a good portion of the game
She was the same as Russell in hvv. She was only in a good position and made decisions because everyone wanted to bring her to the end. She constantly made the wrong move and seemed rather delusional in her decision making. Not sure what the case for her is, yeah she had a little charm but there’s not much good in her game.
@@Colby-xd9ko She constantly made the wrong move for everyone else's game, not for hers. She played a pretty perfect strategic game as a free agent in the era of alliances.
Gabon was the first season I saw live, on CBS; and I have to say for someone that was brand new into Survivor; it was the perfect season to start off with
I agree with Maggie one of the best things about Gabon was seeing people get there come up ins. Marcus irrated me to know end I love the tribal where he's voted out and sees the first vote with his name and laughs at the abursidity of anyone writing down his name to getting voted out.
My question got answered! Ah I am so excited. Thanks RHAP! Also, yes I agree this season would be worse if the onion alliance made it top 5. I have always loved gabon and this was such a good podcast!!
Just wanted to add I normally just listen to these podcasts in my car but I had to comment that this episode is one of the most fun countdown vids so far! I am only half way through it and cant wait to finish it. Maggie sounds a lot like Michelle as I am listening to her haha.
On the rewatch, this season felt like comic book survivor. I loved it. And if you're wondering why Sugar got zero votes just watch the ponderosa episodes from Gabon. It's nasty but again, comic book nasty. They brought out the hater-ade.
I absolutely LOVED Rob C. I have a 25 year old son and he has a friend, Kevin, whom I used to call 'Better Call Saul' because Kevin has always been an evil genius (for the good of mankind and headaches all around). When I first saw Rob C, I thought he looks just like Kevin. Huh. As I watched more and more I thought: This guy is Kevin's defense! If we all thought Kevin is an evil (genius), this guy is a masterpiece. I keep trying to persuade Kevin to apply for the show or at least look up Rob C and see what I mean. The two of them together could re-wire the universe. Rob C is amazing tv. I laughed like a lunatic. Fortunately I played the wrong episode one day and saw that he was NOT on the final two and stopped watching immediately. My brain has blanked out on who actually won but there is no mistake out here amongst the fans that Rob C owned that season and actually deserved to win. He is a walking text book of how to be to play that game.
I loved loved loved sugar. I really enjoyed her game and thought she was super hilarious to watch in this type of setting. I feel that she got the Paris Hilton type edit lol where they kinda pegged her as a dumbass but that was a veneer for someone who actually controlled the entire game. Great player even if ruled by emotions.
I would absolutely love to see Wes play The Traitors. I’ve been a big fan of his for a long time since The Duel. When I started watching The Traitors, I instantly thought of Wes to play because he’s such a smart strategic player that can easily manipulate people. I also really hope Johnny Bananas returns to the next season or so for The Traitors. I thought it was incredibly stupid for Dan to murder Johnny so quickly. You need Johnny in the missions as he’d be one of the biggest assets to win money towards the winnings. Secondly, Johnny was so loud and obnoxious when he arrived so he could definitely be accused by many of being a traitor himself just on his attitude alone. It’d be only advantageous for a Traitor to have him in there because it could take the focus on themself. I’d absolutely freak out if Wes went on one of the Traitor Seasons since he retired from The Challenge. As well as seeing him play to his strengths and utilize all his best assets in a completely different type of game that is 100% mentally. I hope Johnny would come back because he deserves to actually play and show his strengths and use his own assets for the game.
I had this season ranked at #31. Being someone that tends to focus more on the strategy of Survivor, this season doesn't really have much of that. I will say though that this season definitely provides its entertainment. Randy was a fun character, and Sugar also was enjoyable at times as well. I didn't think the pre-merge was that good, but the blindsides on Ace and Marcus were pretty good. Once we hit the merge, it's kind of a pagonging of the Kota members until Bob basically wins out the rest of the way. Kenny was the biggest strategist this season, but made a lot of errors which made him not even get in the top 4. Bob's fake idol was very impressive, and the fact that the oldest guy out there was the challenge dominator when you also had someone like Matty competing against him I thought was pretty impressive as well. I also enjoyed seeing the environment of Gabon as well, especially when Ace has a confessional that gets interrupted by an elephant coming near the water. You also had some good moments like Crystal's hilarious failures in challenges, GC almost missing an immunity challenge, Randy making Ace freeze at the immunity challenge, and amazing reaction to Marcus' blindside. This season doesn't provide the greatest content strategically, especially since this is probably one of the worst final 3's in Survivor history, even though I'm happy with a Bob win. I will say the main reasons I will remember this season for is the hilarious voting confessionals. "FORGET YOU! GO HOME! GOODBYE!"
back to say that watching Gabon after so much new era survivor is SO fun. the word to describe it is petty. i didn't know how much i missed people just voting each other out because the CANNOT stand another day together. also, it really makes you think that the new era short days format messed up the personal aspect of survivor.
Matty absolutely doesn’t get screwed by Sugar. He should’ve considered the possibility that she flips on him and practiced firemaking just in case, especially since it’s Sugar who’s been flipflopping the whole season. This is Survivor, people lie and say that they’re gonna do one thing and then do the opposite. His loss is entirely of his own making.

Only about a half-hour in, so maybe it gets better, but I feel like y'all are being a bit harsh on Kenny here. Dude is the most unlikely person to dominate, yet does so for most of the post-merge. Is he Cirie or Parvati level good? No, but I still think he makes top 100 in there.
