I’m watching this show for the first time through, binging it with my wife. The Erik necklace swindle was so glorious and ridiculous that I can’t imagine any future moment in the show topping it. The Black Widow brigade owned this season in a way that really made me respect them and I can’t help but feel bad for Cirie who I think was the best strategic player this season. Cirie was responsible for getting her way so many times. Yau Man, Joel, Ozzy, these were all her target and while Parvati gets credit for Ozzy I give Cirie just as much credit. The necklace swindle was also her idea and she came up with the only method in which it could be pulled off. The necklace moment was also perfect in that James was on the jury to witness it, his reaction was literal perfection. It’s just unfortunate that Cirie literally sucks at challenges.
was hoping for Pearl Islands to make it as far as possible to keep pissing off that guy who has been commenting every single week about how PI needs to go 💔
Hello there I’m that guy. And yes Pearl Islands is a bottom 5 season. Only 3 good people on the cast (Sandra Savage Rupert), lackluster challenges, opening barter thing that completely takes away from the survival aspect, god awful outcast twist, and overall boringness of the season makes it bottom 5. I’m so happy it’s not number 1, but it’s an absolute joke that it made it this far
Not liking PI is one thing, but come on. "PI is a bottom 5 season" is such an obviously deranged take given some of the other seasons out there that nobody could possibly take it seriously. But you're certainly committed to the bit, I'll give you that.
@@lordsquishington It’s not deranged. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion. I have lots of unpopular opinions when it comes to Survivor. It's frustrating that Parvati's strategic plays get downplayed due to the edit. Cirie has said post show that Parvati is the one who came up with the Ozzy blindside but everyone uses this as a way to disctedit Parvati.
It's really odd that during the episode Cirie gets more airtime and credit, but then Parvati gets the credit during the "previously on Survivor" recaps.

couple things, player I would most want to see back is Mikey B. Dude got a raw deal and he was doing some serious vodoo math on the the first vote he just got trucked, if he was playing with people that had half a clue he could have made it far. Next I think the win for Parvati is ranked so high because she is one of the goats of the game probably top 1 or 2 and this win is kind of the cherry on top of her survivor career even though it came in her second appearance. If Amanda had won, the win probably isn't as high. I think it is high just because of Parv not how the game play was necessarily second or 3rd best although she does construct an all time alliance, talked Jason out of challenge win and then straight told James he was basically out of the game.
@@cecilsmith24 agree!! but as a stand-alone game play, i feel like it was her best. just pure mastermind and so many layers to it. to letting danielle win the challenge up to reading amanda so well

I had this season ranked #8. Although I think this cast is pretty solid, and I enjoy the Black Widow Brigade as much as anybody, I have some reasons why I don't have this season ranked in the top 5 even. First off, we have three medevacs/quits in this season, and it ends up having an impact on the season where we end up having a final 2 instead of a final 3, which I think would've been the original plan, and it ends up robbing Cirie of probably her best chance at winning the game. Next, a lot of the pre-merge boots are very forgettable, like Joel, Mikey B, Chet, or Mary. In my opinion, this pre-merge other than the Ami and Yau-Man boots is not too exciting. Finally, with the merge, I wish we knew more about how James cut his finger, and I wish we had better edits of Natalie and Alexis. I personally have not understood the hype for Alexis and Natalie, other than the fact that they were basically superfans of Parvati based on their horrendous jury questions. I understand the Natalie hype from the Jason episode, but half her confessionals on the season come in that episode alone where up to that point, she only had 2 confessionals. She had one good episode, and other than that, both her and Alexis were just following Parvati and Cirie to get voted out short of the end. The Erik, Jason, and Ozzy blindsides along with Eliza and the stick are absolutely incredible to watch, and they greatly helped shape the outcome of the game. But then we get to the final 3, where the all three of the women remaining thought they reached the endgame on day 38, and it doesn't surprise when they get shocked that it's a final 2, and I feel like this is what should've happened in Koah Rong. It ends up costing Cirie the win, and Parvati is basically handed the win because Eliza had to vote for her in order to avoid a tie in the end. In my opinion, this season is still very good to watch, but I personally just think that the medevacs have a really big impact on this season, and there some complications in this season that I feel like kind of forced the end result of this season to happen.
Thank goodness someone said exactly what I’ve always been thinking, namely the boring pre-merge, 5 evacs/quits, and underdeveloped late-game players. This is for me the most overrated season of Survivor solely because of the Ozzy, Jason, and Erik votes. But I’d take a well-rounded season over one with a few standout moments any day. I don’t even think Micronesia would be in my top ten.
I guess I'm one of the few people who doesn't like this season. There are some fun moments, but at the end of the day I just really hate the "Fans" vs. Favorits thing. They're not even real fans. Erik was a superfan, and Tracy seemed like she knew the show, the others barely knew the show. Natalie grew into the game eventually, but was not a good strategist at all. This season was basically half of the people from seasons 9-15 that we would want to see back against a bunch of people nobody cared about. As a result, the pre-merge was a complete snooze. You can really start watching it at the merge and won't miss anything. Then there are a few fun moments and some cool blindsides, but it also ends on such a downer with the surprise final 2 and Cirie getting screwed. Not a lot of character stuff either, since we already know half of the cast and the only one they develop further is Parvati. Some of the fans are cool, but overall, it's just not that entertaining and the few moments that really pop I've seen so many times they don't hit anymore. I have this season at #31, with a big gap to 32 and beyond, because those bottom 9 are close to unwatchable. I would've preferred a full All-Star-season, throw out the fans and Fairplay and give me Judd, Rafe, Dreamz, Shane, Earl, Chris, Katie, Danielle, Courtney Yates, Sandra and Danni. Sprinkle some of the Fans into the following seasons to replace people like Ben from Samoa or Shannon from Nicaragua. It's a much better timeline for everyone.
It’s fine? Not a whole lot of substance. The post-merge really did solidify the “the goal of Survivor is to blindside and humiliate people” which maybe is the worst stylistic choice for the show. The way the Erik vote is handled is weirdly condescending and I hate that the BWB is portrayed as “lol women are so evil amirite” when they could have a told a story that was more nuanced and felt less like professional wrestling instead of a game of complex people doing questionable things for a million dollars. It’s a feminist narrative designed by misogynists who think being beaten by a woman should be embarrassing. Toss in three (that were shown) non-gameplay eliminations, a winner with a strange edit (her winning game is edited like a runner-up and her runner-up game is edited like a winner), and the extremely bullshit veterans vs newbies format than you lost me. There’s definitely worse seasons, but this is a season I think people hype because it represents the product Probst wants and I think people remember it differently than it actually was. It’s a solid season on a popcorn level, but its legacy really did start to usher in the Bigmoveitis less character-focused era of the show that Hantz solidified a couple season later. It’s full of a lot of moments but it doesn’t feel like a very good full product.
