My sister recently passed from cancer. Her husband of 45 years had this song playing when she passed. I thanked James on Facebook for helping my sister move on. He actually responded with condolences. What a great guy.
I'm so sorry for your loss. It brought tears to my eyes. When my mom passed away people told me that she was in a better place. I hope that thought helps! Good luck.
I want this song for me should I pass. I put my dog down last week and I haven’t been able to look at her photos or listen to a sad song. Tonight I did both. What a punch in the gut. :(
@hair2show1031 I'm so sorry for the loss of your fur baby. Our 12yo lab is fading fast in front of us these past few months & we're trying to give her All the love we can before she heads to the rainbow bridge🥺💗
‘You can stay as long as you like’ she would always say to me. I played this at her memorial service. I miss you every day, my truest and deepest love, Susan Kaetz
I cried listening to this song, for my only son was murdered on Thanksgiving... My heart was touched by the beauty of this song... Thank you for sharing all these years of wonderful music and sweet memories... You are timeless and ageless... Sweet ALOHA
Dear Alexi, no words suffice, may you remember to breathe deeply, moment by moment, and find simple ways to treasure your memories of your beloved son as you grieve his loss, xo
Condolences. There's no greater healer than music and especially by James. I lost my sister to Covid this year and "enough to be in your way" seemed to me too be a siren for her. RIP Josie.
Marion Sempre - I agree.... James Taylor is a gift 🎁 to this world 🌍. He's my top favorite artist of all time. I first heard his music in 1968-69, when I was very young. He was so distinctively different than any other performer's, or bands I've heard. I loved his music, and never tired of it ever. The man is humble, and a great example of humanity. He's still a legendary performer to this very day! 😎👍🏻
You nailed it. No one else sounds like James Taylor. His music has been a big part of my life for over 40 years. Somehow I never tire of hearing him sing these beautiful songs and playing the acoustic guitar like so few can. He is a treasure and his voice sounds incredible on these BBC tapes. I’ve never heard it sound better.
I sang this to my mother everyday when her stage IV Ovarian cancer spread to her bones to the point where the morphine no longer touched the pain. Growing up her favorite JT song was Fire and Rain but I still remember her singing this to me (sometimes I can still hear her beautiful voice) when I was little. Miss you, Mommy.
This treasure is absolutely dreamy and beautiful. My mother used to sing this Taylor piece as a lullaby when I was a child. By two years old I knew the lyrics by heart. I’ll forever cherish this.
Closing my eyes, listening to this song, brings back memories of my younger days enjoying James Taylor's songs..and I can't help but cry. Those were great times of great music. Thank you so much, Mr. JAMES TAYLOR!!!
This is one of my favorite JT songs. My experience with the music I listen to is to slowly but surely grow a little tired of songs that I loved at first listen. Somehow that doesn’t happen when I listen to James Taylor. I can only assume that that’s the measure of true greatness.
This is one of my favorite songs ever. I sang it to my children every night when they were wee ones. I can’t sing it without shedding some tears - it moves me beyond words. Love you forever James.
This song and version blows me away.... I was a few months away from turning 7 years old when this was broadcast live on TV. I grew up in New York, where James Taylor was heavily played on radio stations. The man is nothing short of amazing. I love his entire music catalog. I had seen him live in 1994. It was by far the best concert I've ever seen. James is so polite, humble, and genuinely a great man. He made the setting feel as if he was performing live in his living room for you. The whole setting was so comfortable. I have to say, he's my ultimate favorite artist of all time.... I'm a music man, but no one holds a candle🕯️ to James.... Absolutely no one. ✌🏻😎👍🏻
My first concern was James Taylor with Keb Mo opening up for him at Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Pelham, AL in 1991. I was around 7 years old. My father took my brother(11) and me to see him. We are now 37/41 and going to see him again tonight at Oak Mountain. We have made it a yearly outing to go see him on tour, and this year, we're going back where it all started for me. I've always loved his music and his books he's written. His music spoke to me as a child and it became even clearer ass I struggled with addiction and depression growing up. He's an awesome dude, and I'm so grateful each year when he announces dates and I know we get to see him one more time. I'll be bummed the day comes when there's no announcement, but he's sure given us a lot. I'm stoked to see him goof off and it looks like he's just playing all his old hits/favorites this year. He's closing every show with ' close your eyes'.... I'm wondering if there is a reason for it... Either way, tonight is going to be another awesome night hanging out with the coolest paw-paw on the planet!
I love these B.B.C concert series showing artists in their early prime. It is an incredible depth of artistry a young James Taylor exudes. Hope the Bobbie Gentry concert for the B.B.C in unearthed some day soon.
Every time I hear this song I am transported back to the 7 storey Co-Op I lived in during college, sitting on the carpeted floor of the kitchen with 10 other people, passing the joint and the bottle of wine and listening to this song cranked up to 9 on the Stereo. Thanks James.
As my Momma's 50th anniversary of her death approaches, I sang this song to her while she was comatose. Mud Slide Slim was my first Vinyl, and she loved it. JT continues to be a huge, blessed influence in my life. I've been blessed to see him perform 6x. 7 this summer at Tanglewood. Thank you, James.❤
This song touches my heart. My mom passed away in February 2021 & so hard to believe. She never wanted to miss anything. I just wish I could have been with her when she passed in the er....to tell her it was ok to close her eyes 😥 I miss her so much 😢 thank you James for this song ❤
I am so sorry for your loss, Andrea. James Taylor's songs can touch our hearts as he has touched yours with the memory and grieving the loss of your mother. I am sure your mother felt your love even while she passed.
Just a beautiful, classic, treasure of a song. James, your songs have an ability to never get old. To never age. To never lose their luster. They are truly timeless. U r my idol. My dream is to sing with you. As ive been doing my whole life.
I would love to sing and play this song - if only I wouldn't have to cry every time I hear it. This man is so incredibly gifted, yet so humble. Thank you for this absolute gem, James. ❤️
This song pierces the soul. It says everything a man would leave for his legacy, as James has done for all of his children. God Bless James 🙏🏻. One of the very best singer songwriter's in history ever. Period.
My mom was a big fan of him I grew up listening to his music It was a concert we planned to see together Sadly she died in 2015.. I planned on going to see him last year Then the pandemic - rescheduled for this July God willing I make it there My mom will be with me in spirit 💚💚💚💚🎶💚💚💚
Thanks James, this beautiful song is one of your best! Takes me back to another era when we played and sang James Taylor songs, and we are still singing these beautiful songs. Thank you my friend, and I thank God for these blessings. ❤️🔫😎🏄🌈🇦🇺
I was sweating it during the encore of the show last week, it looked like everyone was leaving the stage but I got my wish and James and Henry did this song before sending us home. It was a magical night.
God I love this song! I can’t count the number of times I harmonized to it in my car in high school.... and that goes for the whole Mud Slide Slim album. James and I sounded SO good together! The most beautiful harmonies you’ve ever heard! 😂 Can’t believe James could write, play and sing like this at only 22 years of age. A pure musical phenomenon! No wonder the Beatles were impressed.
My parents sang this to me as a child. I remember their soft sweet voices trying to get me to fall asleep. I very much associate this song with loss and hope that it won't be long until a day we can meet in beautiful sunshine and stay as long as we like. I always cry because I imagine their voices singing it to me.
I started listening to his song's when I heard one being played at a party never stopped the last thing I will hear will be going to Carolina in my mind
James is certainly one of my favorites . My first girlfriend and me would listen for hours memorizing these words thinking we'd be together forever, now I see its been 50 years and wonder where she is and if she found her place as these tears run down my old weary cheeks. Lord hold her dear as I did once!
I came back from Vietnam in January of that year and discovered you and your music been listening ever since. God bless you James you helped me get over some bad memories
I can’t wait to see him in concert tonight I’ve waited my whole life.. I love him so much I’m 48 and grew up on his music My mom will be there in spirit with me
Remember songs like this and the age that they were written. We may never have heard this because folk at that time was fading and the music industry was not fond of folk. Remember what James endured and this song lost in time.
One of his very best songs. I've loved his music since the day he was on the radio. I see him in concert every chance I can and he's coming this month...can't wait! Thanks JT for so many great songs good times and memories that went with them!
I sang and still sing this to my 4 soon 5 grankids. I finally learned how to play it rightly! Cant wait to sing to my new granson. It has meant a lot to me basically, my whole life. Thanks again James Taylor
And that's the key to a good performance...feeling as though you were relaxing with him or her in their own living room...honest, heartfelt, genuine feeling emanating from the voice and the guitar.
🕊Sweet Baby James🌄 🎶and i still love you🎶 and the harmonics of your sweet guitar🎻 #JT #JamesTaylor #restored #YouCanCloseYourEyes #InConcert #BBCConcert #JoniMithcell #KateTaylor #TwoLaneBlacktop
Reminds me of my dear aunt Gwen, she sadly passed away from complications to MS in 2014 but she’s still here with me in spirit. She was a huge fan of JT and she lives through his music. Miss you Gwen.
Thanks James.... I have a James Taylor story⚓️... on a tour in the mid ‘80s... I had a chance to attend at UC Davis. I’m a merchant mariner & on a ship in San Francisco, I got the weekend off, my girlfriend was on staff at UC & I got ahold of some friends that lived on the BART line to pick me up & head into Davis for the evening... we were headed East on I-80 & we passed you in the Rolls... at about Dixon. The couple I was with didn’t believe me when we passed that it was you. Then there you were on stage that evening- same guy. T shirt & jeans. Thanks for the great show. 😎 & Happy Holidays.
What an incredible song! I'm not too young to have heard this as a kid but I never would've appreciated it. I was too much of a metal head. Just going back to these old tunes with great appreciation. Thanks for the song lesson James! Gonna learn this one from you tonight.
I was fortunate to hear James and Henry close their Des Moines concert with this song. James' music has been a big part of my life since way back when he started. I am forever thankful.

One man, one guitar, one voice, that's enough.
💖🎸🎶🎵🎶
Luv this man ❤

‘You can stay as long as you like’ she would always say to me. I played this at her memorial service. I miss you every day, my truest and deepest love, Susan Kaetz
One of the best songs ever written. IMO His guitar playing, lyrics, and singing are outstanding.
I cried listening to this song, for my only son was murdered on Thanksgiving... My heart was touched by the beauty of this song... Thank you for sharing all these years of wonderful music and sweet memories... You are timeless and ageless... Sweet ALOHA

Doesn't get any more pure and beautiful than this.
Sang this at my dads funeral. He was the biggest JT fan I’ve ever known. Still listening through the tears.
This for my late man, " I still love you ," happy birthday xxxxxxxxx
So hauntingly beautiful. The great James Taylor-the legend.
Gorgeous man. Then and now. Always knows how to touch our hearts. JT : you’re a gift to this world. 🙏

Me too. Texted it to my priest friend already, & my siblings.
I sang this song (You Can Close Your Eyes) to my husband as he was transitioning. 💔

One of my favorite singers. Love his voice
Love the outfit! That whole sweater vest thing was "the" thing back then...and of course, his performance was impeccable.
