Wow, just listened to this after listening to the 1990 Tokyo recording. This is better. The adagio: Heavenly. Relaxed. Wow.

The outer sections of the scherzo are the most glorious noise I've ever heard. The laughter of the gods. Sublime.

I travelled through the universe and time. I went 5000 light years away deep into the space and then back - that's how this piece made me feel.

The overwhelming power of the performance and this masterpiece with profundity and dignity blows away the lamentation of urbanities who are tired of the hustle and bustle of the big city like Tokyo , New York , London , Paris as Megalopolis with unimaginable crowds and dangers swirling .
From Tokyo in the dizzying Megalopolis ablaze with neon .
Which national are you watching this video ?

From the midwest USA. I also love Bruckner. Especially his fifth. That finale rivals both the Jupiter symphony by Mozart and the Eroica Symphony by Beethoven in sheer contrapuntal might.

@@aparacity9676 for me the Bruckner symphonies are built large so that the great moments feel grander than the great moments in other works. It’s like going from a Ford to a Mercedes.

I think the adagio is the most religios composition of Bruckner in his symphonys.

I am starting to "get" this symphony- 4, 7, and 9 are easier to "get" so I'm investing time so I can hear the greatness I know is there.

Imagine at the time of writing - waiting years or months for another performance in your city. A lifetime of effort to gain the insight you described. You might have a wax cylinder if you were lucky. Now - the replay button. I must have listened to different versions of this 20 times and love it.

I at first thought the coda of the finale was disappointing and less energetic than the 1990 Tokyo recording. Then, looking at it through the seasoned, aged viewpoint of Celibidache in 1993, I realized the slower tempo and proud basses made for a very stately and grand finale. A different approach that is still appreciable.
