This is my vote for greatest Adagio in classical music of all time.

For sure Bruckner heard this music in heaven. It transcends every possible imagination. Celibidache understood it perfectly.

Astonishing. The intrinsic nobility of the tragedy of existence is expressed here with unsurpassed poetic integrity.

And to think, the critics called him a" stupid country bumpkin." This country bumpkin is now in the presence of God, where he belongs. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

Charles Darwin would extol the god-like qualities of any rude "country bumpkin" in the randomness of natural selection's divergent tree-branching where no "geological prophecy" can realistically catch hold.

No words to express what this music does and means to me. If Adagio of the 7th symphony (and 5th, maybe the most personal and dearest of all these amazing Adagios) is my very favourite, this too leaves me totally spellbound. What heart stopping tension and power , moments of intolerable beauty (24:40-25:10) and sweetly calming end. Or better, pure bliss from the very beginning to the very end . Oh dear Bruckner, what a composer you are ! And same praises to Celibidache & MPO.

I agree totally, the 5th and 8th are dearest to me. There’s nothing I’ve experienced like the coda to this movement (last 5 minutes or so) that is so transcendent. Alas, AB isn’t very popular, nor is Celi. I love both, because with Celi every note can be savored.

@@davekeyes5589 This is my favorite Bruckner Adagio. There is a wonderful Ravel Concerto with the incomparable Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli and Celibidache conducting the London Symphony. Probably the best recording of the piece ever produced. On TH-cam.

@@davekeyes5589 Yes. No one on earth can touch that performance. His star pupils, Martha Argerich and Maurizio Pollini are way behind their teacher, even though they were international superstars, and still are. Argerich's performance of this piece falls far short of her teacher's.

.. it's because you don't understand the deep philosophy of this composer called Bruckner. To understand music is difficult. People who don't understand anything want TEMPO. A genius chose the right TEMPO.
