40:00 to 41:50 pure heaven! The very best of Bruckner.Makes your hair stand on end. Unadulterated beautiful music.
What a gem of a symphony this is. This can stand together with the mighty 7th and 8th. And in my personal opinion no other conductor achieves the perfect tempi for Bruckner's symphonies as Celibidiche.
As they say..." a match made in Heaven".

Totally agree on tempi. In today's frenetic world so many conductors race through hoping to dazzle with speed. With Celibidache the mystery and mysticism is paramount. Every nuance of the complex harmonies in Bruckner symphonies can be heard. After all, Bruckner was a devoted religious. Celibidache knows this!

Once we hear Bruckner directed by Celibidache it's difficult to appreciate it directed by other directors even if great ones. RIP

Yes! Its not easy as the „tempi“ are very slow - but you will discover a lot when heering that way - I am leastening classic music over 45 years and had the opportunity to hear so many maestros live - Celi is the best

No se puede tocar mejor. El final antológico.Tremendo, devastador, inalcanzable para otras orquestas y directores.

Isn't this last minute coda in D Major the most glorious in all classical music?

It always gives me goosebumps. I say to myself before it comes, "Now don't get goosebumps," but it always happens anyway.

Tension upon first theme of the first movement is almost unbearable, the orchestra should have crashed...

I have undertaken to listen to all of Bruckner's symphonies. (I already knew Nos. 4, 7, 8 and 9.) Nos. 1, 2 and 3 have been interesting: the slow movements are lovely, but I find some of his music frightening! I'm sorry, but I always have! Is it considered that his symphonies evolve in the way that those of Sibelius evolve, or are they of more or less equal "maturity", so to speak? I might even listen to Symphony No. 0 if I feel so inclined!

Don?t be afraid! Bruckner has on his 00 Symphony (yes) something which is something which you could here: going through all symphoneie: the endevour; the announcement here how it is in the 7th in the 8th int 9th symphony. piecies like only mozart or hadyn has: how should I say: the ability to think in a piece, in a symphony what comes next - look here what Celibidache has done. Or Eugen Jochum....

Where are the very important breaks between the parts, which are so typical und so full of meaning in the oevre of Celi ??

This was a live recording and the audience noises between movements have been cut out completely so it seems that there are no intervals between movements. Poor editing but still a terrific performance with such a magnificent final coda in D major.
