    I’m looking for one of these at the moment. Nothing like it, and it’s the last of its kind. Gone are the days of big displacement engines, manual transmissions, and front engine corvettes. I love all corvettes but this one has stolen my heart in ways I cannot express. Congrats on the purchase, you’re driving my dream car!

      Thanks! Definitely feeling very lucky to have found myself in a position to be able to buy it and also to have the right car come along at the right time. Total coincidence that the first C8Z reviews are dropping today... not saying I wouldn't want one but the C6Z is one of the top dogs in the best decade for pure drivers' cars. Can't wait to see what kind of potential we can unlock with some carefully considered mods.

      if you decide the C6 is a little high in price you can always get a C5 and upgrade like almost everything to C6 parts, breaks, rims, etc.

    Congrats! We bought our C6Z back in April, phenomenal car. On the door switch you need to clean the contacts, very simple to do. There's a couple how to vids in YT. I'd highly recommend installing a catch can from Elite Engineering with the clean side seperator to stop it from burping oil into the bellows in front of the TB.

    My C6 door pressure latches were worn out. I just replaced them with new ones you can find on Amazon for about 20 bucks. Quick easy peasy install and they work 100% with very little pressure now

    • @JoshVanVeld
      @JoshVanVeld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good to know! I think mine consistently work when you press them, but it took me a while to get used to the timing - you have to open the door in the short window of time that the latch is held open after you press the button. Miss the window and the door won't open. I'm guessing I wasn't giving the latch enough time to open before pushing and then I would give it a second push after it closed again.

    • @JoshVanVeld
      @JoshVanVeld  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yo! Great choice 😁 The first couple of years (2006-2007, mine is a 2007) had a T6060 transmission, after that they went to the T56, which is stronger, but also heavier (by 30-40 pounds from what I read). In 2011 they introduced magnetic ride control, which I think was standard for the rest of the run.
      People say they made other incremental improvements over the years, so theoretically the newer the car, the better. But of course the most important factor is probably going to be how any particular car was treated by its owner(s). Mine is a two-owner car that wasn't abused, but it was driven regularly. I know the owner and I know he properly serviced it, so that gave me a lot of peace of mind.
      Good luck!

  • @y0ungtchalla420
    @y0ungtchalla420 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm at the crossroads now, debating going C6z with LS7 or C6 grandsport with LS3. Did yours have the valve issue addressed, do you have concerns with that? Any other reason you didn't go with the LS3 instead ? My use would be the same as yours, street car with track use 4-5 times out of the year.

    • @JoshVanVeld
      @JoshVanVeld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly I didn't really consider the grand sport... I kind of had my heart set on a Z06 since I first drove it a couple years back. Heads have not been addressed although it's likely I'll do that pretty soon for peace of mind and even then I'll probably be a little worried about the motor.
      That said, you will definitely feel the HP and power difference if you go with the Z06.
      I didn't shop the grand sport but looking at bring a trailer it seems like the prices aren't that different... The GS would be an easier sell if it saved a lot of money.
      It does feel a bit like you're rolling the dice with an LS7 but there's no scientific data out there about failure rates that I'm aware of, which makes me think they're amplified by the internet at least a little bit.
      Tough choice. Good luck!

    • @TheWolfMatt
      @TheWolfMatt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoshVanVeld If you don't want too much noise on the exhaust then I'd suggest only getting the X pipe from Corsa and having the rear mufflers gutted, this way it still sounds mostly factory and retains use of the valves so you can still have the stealth/race setting on the Z. The heads will need to come off for the valve repair, so it makes sense to get them a little porting in there while you have them off, doing any further upgrades are up to you at that point.

      On my previous Corvette I ran a Toyo R888R tire which I wasn't a huge fan of. This car has old Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, which are not ideal as a track-day tire but could work reasonably well if they weren't old. Michelin Sport Cup tires (and variants) are known to be very good but also very pricey. I'm considering the Nankang AR1 and researching other options as well.

      Hey glad you approve of the purchase! I didn't want to spend the time explaining in the video but my plan right now is to sell the Turbo which will free up a spot in the garage for something that's more of a hardcore track car, possibly a race car. So the Z06 is really a replacement for the Turbo, but should fit better in the role of "nice" street car that is comfortable doing track days.

    You never said what the clutch feels like you started to and then got interrupted by the deer

      Dang, I'm glad you reminded me! The clutch is lighter than I would have expected but it has pretty good feel and it's easy to modulate. Seems like it would be a great car to learn to drive stick with. I might use it to teach my wife 😁

    I’m looking to get a new car soon either a c6 ZO6 corvette or 10 speed SS but having a hard time choosing .I know about the LS7 head problem . how did your friend blow the engine ?

    • @JoshVanVeld
      @JoshVanVeld  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're not 100% sure what the root cause was. Best guess: A rocker failed, which allowed a pushrod to move further than it should have, which allowed a lifter to shift and rotate. The cam lobe caught and destroyed the lifter and the lifter debris chewed up the block as it rode the cam.
      The tough part about getting the heads fixed on the LS7 is resisting "while I'm in there" syndrome and going after 700 WHP. I'll get into that whole dilemma in a future video.
      A Camaro is such a different beast, I really need to try one at some point.

    You're gonna wanna fix the heads, seems to be to common to put it off. I've seen 35k mile engines go.

      @@JoshVanVeld I have a 2011 Grand Sport, so I’ll be watching your build series closely. You’re making great videos. You might check out Charlie at “Track Beast”, he did a street car/track build on a GS. I have been getting my car sorted, I have a sway bar, Toyo R888R, Xineering Rev match module, Carbotech XP12/10 pads, MGW short shifter. I’d like to improve the brake setup with a Wilwood setup or possibly AP Racing Radi-Cals. Still need a bucket seat and harness bar. I’d also like to improve the shock setup but not kill the daily driver ability. Maybe Koni FSB? Or Bilsteins? Anyway, sorry for all the rambling.

      Apparently! 😂From what I read a huge percentage of the early C6Z's were sold in yellow - maybe because that's the color they used in the promo materials and the factory race cars were in yellow. I remember really clearly the first time I saw a C6Z - they were pretty new at the time... it was yellow.
