Great video and can’t wait for part 2. It was great riding with you and your assessment is correct. Spirited driving for us turns into an intense driving experience!
Intense feels like the right word! Now that I've had a few minutes of seat time in a GT3 RS I can understand a bit better how it felt from where you were sitting! What a machine!
I think we are wired the same. Since I have found track days and then racing with Champcar I have almost 0 desire to drive that way on the streets. That kind of driving requires so much focus. I find that hard to do after being able to do it in the controlled( as much as possible) environment of the track. On the road you have to worry about Cops, other people, things in the road. This also goes back to picking the right car for the job. I would much rather drive my slow 914 on a road like this because the speeds are much more manageable and its more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow! Can't wait to see the rest of the trip. I did my first Tail of the Dragon trip this past May in my Blackwing and had a blast! I felt that I drove within my comfort zone for the streets, and that's the key. I also recently found the Back Roads of the Appalachia App thanks to the article in Grassroots Motorsports. If you didn't see it, its an app with a hand full of great driving roads throughout the Appalachia Mountains. It looks like like you guys did the Tunnel Run that they have on there.
Funny you mention that app, we spent a lot of time with Erik Hubbard who is the director of that org. Great insight on street driving. Driving on the street near the limit just isn’t fun - too many what-if’s and no trophy for getting there first 😀
the stock C6 corvette seats have plastic spines I brought my drivers side to a upholstery shop and I had the spine strengthen with steel. the seat then became rock solid NO FLEX, total cost was about $200. I also replaced worn out form too
Locking the seatbelt helps with the garbage seats. I scoot the seat all the way back, buckle in, then pull the should strap all the way out until it lock, then retract it in which it should be clicking. Then retract it all the way back as far back in as I can get it, again while it's clicking and locking. Then I use the power seat controls to scoot the seat forward into the locked seatbelt. Hopefully that all makes sense. It helps in the interim, while shopping for a proper seat. Great vid!
The z06 c6 can definitely outrun some of those exotic cars, I’ll recommend you suiting the car up for better handling and then get at least 5 tracks days under your belt and you’ll see what the car and yourself will be capable of. Nice Video btw.
I had all the bushings replace with the carbon graphite ones, custom bilstien shocks set just for that car, ps4 tires, had suspension parts basically all replaced. That fixed all my suspension issues. Zero issues now and I love high speed driving in the mountains. I always find the tractor trailers though before I make it over the second mountain. Yes the seats are the thing holding you back in corners. I have an Audi s4 built that has seats you don’t move in at all. The only reasons I have not replaced them is the airbag they have in the seats will turn a light on in dash. Plus for long drives from here in PA to SC I love those seats. I did have them restuffed though. The z06 with those seats feel amazing on long drives. In my Audi it kills my back after an hour or two. Like I said you are glued to the seat in corners but long drives you are tapping out lol I actually drive mine year round. Use Michelin all seasons in winter. I just can’t take it above 5k rpm in first two gears hard on gas. The cam comes on so hard 5-7k I can break the ass end loose at 80 in 2nd. I can do that with ps4 on in summer if they aren’t warm enough. Definitely change out the bushings. I had a shop do them. I think the bushings were $800 plus labor. You will feel a huge difference.
These are my kinds of groups. Is funny, in my Miata days I had a friend with a yellow C6Z who had to put some work in to keep up with me, and in my GTI I have had a GT3 crack my windshield as I struggled to keep up with it. Seein' the whole world here save for yatas. Tires tires tires and suspension and keeping up will be no problem. Car just doesn't transition and settle quickly enough as is.
Just came across your channel and really enjoy your content ,my only regret is I wish you had a Porsche, but excellent work ,ps I'm in south Africa and drive a 911 turbo
It sucks that GM put a beast motor under the hood but installed bleacher seats to cut corners. Our Corvette club has been on these roads a few times. They're a blast, especially the Blue Ridge Parkway tunnels. The Tail of the Dragon is another Corvette fun road.
Channel and production is on the up and up, but jeesh Josh you were getting left. With your background you should have no problem keeping up. Might want to check the alignment and tires on the Vette, although as you know back roads are not it's strong point.
I've done one rally previously after I bought my C5Z. I didnt feel like it was for me. Maybe with the right group it would be a good trip. Are you planning more in the future?
Thumps Up - I feel your goal… tired of waiting on the new z06 I said to hell with it and bought a yellow 2009 z06. It’s currently being updated to a stage 3 package giving 600 plus to the rear wheels. From there I’m taking it to having the suspension upgraded by corvette specialist. The goal is hanging with the big boys 😂😂😂. Looking forward to your experience 👍

Wow! Great idea! We'll have to try this in ours. Especially handy for my wife, I bet :-) Thank you, cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Some guy’s ran threw WV country side going 180 wow!!! The Porsche turbo S ran point.

C6 Z will put him in a ditch. He’s better to drive like grandma. I have a C7 Z and I don’t trust her at all!!!
@@mnoell35 it’s not a mustang, I’ve seen legit drivers kill super cars in the track in ATL GA.

Hey thanks for the detailed suggestions. Glad to hear you've had a good experience upgrading your car without ruining it for street driving.

Great info. Keep up great content.
Excellent video, this deserves 500k views
Thank you! Now we just need to convince 497K other people to agree :)
One of the best vid so far!! Love it man keep it up :) I love to ride those mountain roads on the bike.
Thanks man!

Thank you! Until recently I had a 997-generation 911 Turbo, and I'm pretty certain there are more Porsches in my future.
Man o man! That looked fun! Let me know if I can join in the future. Great high quality video😊
Only if you promise to drive the Atom 😂
Next time invite your Big brother. 2013 ZR1

Thanks! We've identified some issues with the car that will need to be addressed. Stay tuned!
Heads cam package will really wake up the corvette Bet you could even beat some of those cars

I haven’t been on one since so I guess that tells you something 😅
Good for trying. 🎉
Are you going again in couple of weeks?
Possible but not likely at this point. How about you?
@@JoshVanVeld if my son can get time away, then, yes, I will be attending.
Just have to put some money in her. A good heads snd cam in Goldie and you will blow by most of those cars
Haha, how in the world can i find out about the next rally?
