I manage to remove both heat spreaders on my CECHA01 fast using feeler gauges and a heat gun. This was my first time ever taking apart a PS3 fat and I should of practice on a donor board first. I have to stress that using a heat gun makes this process a lot easier and faster, but don't get it too hot. I literally got the the rsx spreader off in 15 seconds using the feeler gauge and flat head pry method but when it came to the cpu it took some time. Being my first time I didn't notice that I had my feeler gauge to close to the cpu die and I nicked a super small piece off but it still works perfectly. Using a heat gun also made cutting the cpu glue easier and my feeler gauge wasn't' even sanded down or sharpened. For thermal paste I used arctic silver 5 and I did the grain of rice method for the dies and a little bit bigger grains for the heat sinks and let the pressure from the clamps spread the paste out. I played MW3 for 2 hours straight and fan only reach about 60% and then it got quiet on the XMB. I am so happy with results and I plan to install CFW and I already installed a 1tb hdd. Good luck to those who are doing this.
lol I thought my fan was running around 60% but after I installed CFW and webman the actual speed of the fan is 35% after playing for hours. My launch model is super quiet thanks to you:)

@@NSC-Modz after thinking I've decided to just repaste the top of the IHS. Don't really have the tools that you do. I have CFW and can control the fans, most problems seem to come from the IHS to heat sink paste for majority of people.
yo man, i have a like new CECHA01 that was used for its BRdrive for another ps3 back in 2007 and just sat in a box no dust or use until I got it for 20 bucks on facebook marketplace (like craigslist) I watched many of your videos on here and re applied the thermal paste, drilled holes on top and bottom, took off the psu housing and raised it up on cotton, and even focused on getting good preasure on the cpu and gpu with the small detail tricks you mention.. now my ps3 runs cool and not even loud at all. I now have a CFW rebug 4.84 fully backwards compatible titanic no panic system all thanks to all the work you do on this channel! Many thanks and keep making the videos and being your self. Your english is good ! no worries there!

That's a good idea... you could prop it open with a little bit of pressure and heat the paste to loosen it... Any tip to make it a little bit safer is great... I know how it feels to destroy a cell processor,... not fun...
Great video as always, the oil would be (i imagine: a light machine oil) like 3-in-1 oil or even a mineral oil like Johnson's baby oil! Got given a PS3 that was a chechc and one owner from new, and waranty sticker. No dust inside and thermal compound still wet!!!! Have done your fan inlet 'mod' and also done the IHSes too. @@NSC-Modz Watched "Best PS3 IHS Removal Video NSC ever made By:NSC" twice and no exact measurement of tool. You show the micrometer, but do not use it!! Maybe another vid. As I said: I have already done mine but maybe others will find this info. usefull. I used an angle grinder with cutting disk, and it made it super fine, super quick. Then finished with 400 grit. Maybe a modified feeler gauge might be easier to measure the gap. Anyway, thanks for the great videos, My PS3 is running cool now.

You mention that the heatspreaders will be stuck to the cooler like glue but what if we ever wanted to change the thermal paste on there again in the future, how can the heatspreaders be removed from the cooler if needed.
Hello for first ^^ you will be able to move them easy to the side, it will not be stuck for ever, they should hold very good because the existing pressure that it had all the time. No problem at all to get them off again if you like, but mostly not necessary, most important is the thermal paste inside the IHS :)

Great Video. But I got 1 question. What temperatures would be normal? I delided my PS3 Slim, put liquid metal between DIE and IHS. And artic silver on IHS and cooler. I still have about 58-60°C in CFW 4.88 evilnat on 35% fanspeed. Is that a good result or should I check something? Wont open it again soon if I would not need to :) Best regards

My Ps3 turns off while playing certain games such as rdr1 and far cry 3 , but plays some games just fine like gta 5 , it also turns off when reaching the "22%" trophy on Tekken Tag Tournament 2 , already tried replacing the hdd ,but still, no joy. What could have been the problem of the console?

Not really, the only problem is that the bluray drive gonna make some problems one day, and this problem comes from a chip on the motherboard. On the CECH-210X the problem doesn't exist because the Blueray drive had he's own board. But at least it's all good :)

Just got my RSX Off thanks for the had that torch but it needs batteries I used a few drops of isopropyl and lit then let consume the alcohol with your razor blade then checking it side ways to where I was got in to the ram just a hair it’s good then using my chipping flat hard screw driver around the corners and wiggles got pry in torque direction gently glue crack were the progress until it when flying off. Your is way old chip pieces were in the way for me. Artist clean is my acidtone for getting old thermal paste off. Great reference.

Hello NSC i have the exact same console in the video, however after 3 years of not being used at all i'm experiencing a GPU problem (i think). it plays games for 20 minutes completely fine however after 20-30min, i get artifacts very similar to this th-cam.com/video/JdkO9jVwl9k/w-d-xo.html . what's really weird is that unlike every other PS3 which would boot with no video out at all after that happening, my console still functions and boots without any display problems after 5 minutes of cooling it down and turning it on again. Should i attempt a reflow and delid at home or outsorce a reball? awesome videos btw, thanks for any advice/help in advance!
Hello That's what happen when things run hot for a longer time. I would delid it first, then give it a try, also better get a Jailbreak with a CFW, so you can install WebMan Mod and set the fan higher. Thermal paste is fully ok, go for Arctic MX4 😇
GD900-1 is very similar a mx4, pretty good!

My ps3 when i turned on the fan is very powerful 10 second and he turned off i replace the thermalpat no thing .whats the solution .thank you
You will need to cut the IHS, and apply new thermal paste inside the IHS

Hello NSC i have the exact same console in the video, however after 3 years of not being used at all i'm experiencing a GPU problem (i think). it plays games for 20 minutes completely fine however after 20-30min, i get artifacts very similar to this th-cam.com/video/JdkO9jVwl9k/w-d-xo.html . what's really weird is that unlike every other PS3 which would boot with no video out at all after that happening, my console still functions and boots without any display problems after 5 minutes of cooling it down and turning it on again. Should i attempt a reflow and delid at home or outsorce a reball?

Hello That's what happen when things run hot for a longer time. I would delid it first, then give it a try, also better get a Jailbreak with a CFW, so you can install WebMan Mod and set the fan higher. Otherwise you can do a smooth Reflow with some flux, but Reballing is just not for ever and it's just bullshit: m.th-cam.com/video/1AcEt073Uds/w-d-xo.html
