Did you mess with that 1/4 throttle, my 03 does the same thing and it honestly may be how the 03 sounds. I'm going to put some vforce3 reeds on it, which many say wakes up that bottom end.
I cut the head to 1.25 squish, put the 7.0 slide in the carb and it helped. It was not fully fixed until I rebuilt my carb. There is a needle block gasket sold separately from the rebuild kit and that was bad on mine bc it doesn’t do it anymore.

You’ll need new fork guards too. Order for a 2018 rmz450 so you can ditch the clastic guide rings on the forks too. That’s what I did.
