actually they can hold on,...the tropical forest of Vietnam will be the same as the mountainous region of Afghanistan. Both will be enough to render technology superiority useless and both have fighter willing to go extra mile for their country. China will win, of course. Also, Vietnamese education is so bad that 90% of CN fan girls in Vietnam are willing to die for their idol and 50% of boys will run away from home, hiding in Cambodia or Lao. This was actually genius on the Vietcong's part. Nobody wanted that war. It was unpopular from American soil all the way to boots on the ground. The Vietcong realized they didn't have to win the war, they just had to not LOSE the war. A true war of attrition. They used this and actually some of the most brilliant yet terrifying booby traps, as well as an elaborate, secret underground network of tunnels where the enemy could literally be anywhere at any time. And then to top it all off during the downtime the disgruntled soldier might tune into Hanoi Hannah over the government's own radio propaganda which almost certainly painted a more optimistic and rosy picture.

@Phương Nguyễn Nobody in America at least that I've ever talked to believes we won in Vietnam. That wasn't the first time we ever left a conflict without truly winning, the Korean War still goes on technically to this day for instance although it's been in a stalemate for a long time now. Vietnam was the first "televised war" and from that standpoint it was in the living rooms of American homes on a nightly basis, and of course having to hear the casualties every day and hoping/praying it's not someone we knew. Even the soldiers who served in Vietnam were sadly spit on by the people in America when they returned, although it's not like they were the ones who picked the fight. They were just the ones unfortunate enough to be forced to have to go fight it for people richer and more powerful than them.

That's a big reason why the Vietnamese used tunnels and infiltration tactics, night raids etc, because that was all part of Japanese army doctrine, just as it had been on Iwo Jima. That's always been really fascinating to me.

Hannah played better and more modern rock music then AFVN. I remember hearing her mostly at night on the radio. At night the reception was better and there wasn't so much interference, I still believe this was caused by the ASA spooks that tried to jam the north Vietnamese Transmitters in Northern I corp. That was the cause of the heavy static, sometimes the jamming would spill into the AFVN bandwidth and make it hard to listen to.

@@bamnibaum no I'm 26 years old. I have had a fascination with Vietnam since my brother showed me films like apocalypse now and full metal jacket.
Da 5 Bloods is also one of my favourite Vietnam war films. The Vietnam War by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick is my favourite documentary series on the Vietnam War.
My brother told me soldiers used to smoke weed through shotguns.
Not to romanticise it but it's probably the craziest war ever and was such a turbulent time.

@@ComicAcolyte well since you're so interested you wouldn't mind if I share my grandpa's story would you? I'm Vietnamese and so was he fighting on the VC side, he was fighting not for the Communist ideology but for his home and family like many other young men at that time. His front was in Ben Tre, a province in South Vietnam that took up arms in the mist of the war. A story he used to tell me is that during a recon mission he was spotted by two American soldiers, in panic he engaged but none of his shots hit, they then retaliate but their M16 jammed and blows up saving my grandpa's life. So I must thank the designer of the shitty M16 that I am here today.

It was used extensively in Iraq to great affect, its part of why much of the Iraqi army surrendered during the war, starting even before US forces advanced to their areas, because we were doing things like air dropping leaflets all throughout the country that told them how hopeless it was to fight against our overwhelming power, how their leader and government was corrupt, would get them all killed, etc and if they surrendered themselves to US forces instead of fighting pointlessly they would be well taken care of.
