Thats an awesome find! I would be very careful with your little boy on your lap. Tricycle front ends can flip very easy especially with that brake stuck.
Is your statement from experience? if not, please don't fear monger we have too much of that these days. Tricycle is a bit of a misnomer, take the contact patch from outside tread edge to outside of the other front tires and you have a decent ground patch at least a foot wide on these. With a front beam axle you have a 1-1/2" wide pin where the axle pivots. The wide front pivots with essentially no resistance until the axle hits the stops . Better hope that is before the point of no return. -It generally is, but inertial forces can mean when the axle stops make contact your rear tire might just keep moving skyward. IMO the trike is more stable for general use, its just that once they do start to tip there is no stop to catch. This is where humans using brains and experience is best. Learn limits and don't exceed them in them in the worst case scenario (wide or narrow front). The scariest thing for me was when we got a wide front end tractor to replace the trike. With a good size log behind the old Allis the front wheels didn't touch from when slack was taken up until the clutch was dis-engaged. Our woods are anything but flat and those cutting brakes could easily steer for a half mile back to the house (so front axle type can be a totally moot point in operation) -No the tractor wont easily flip backwards either but this is enough experiential physics for one day. The danger here is the centrifugal force sending the kid tumbling from his arms.
A couple of things. It's not a Wd45. it's a straight WD. Also WD prodiction began in 1948 and WD45 production began in 1953. In 1945, they were still making the model WC.
Where is the part 2 on this old tractor and be very careful with your son on there, Those old tricycle front end tractors can be very dangerous and yes they can flip over and backwards and get you or even your child hurt or maybe even worse, please be careful young man, very interested in seeing a part 2 real soon
It seems to have an alternator upgrade...I drove one of these at my late uncle's farm in the 80's...Never forget the metal ring you pull to engage the starter motor...magneto on the front...
Yes I thought that about the alternator. Also does not seem to be very knowledgeable about basic safety or the necessary preparation before attempting to start it. A very lucky child and parent.
For info. only, not being critical. AC model was WC up thru 1948. The WD came out in 1949. Engine was rebored in 1953 model making it 45 hp. Thus the WD 45. Main distinguishing feature was the curved gearshift and 45 sticker on side of radiator. Yours is between 1949 thru 1952. They were a good, tough little tractor!
Thanks for the correction. I only clicked on the video because I swore they were not produced in 1945 -Which BTW makes sense most "new" models of anything didn't come around until 1946 or after because of the war. Low compression and magnetos mean that if they are dry sitting won't be an issue (no battery needed). Once I could hand crank dad never put a new "bendix" or battery in again. One turn to prime one to start. I still miss that machine, Allis innovation was unfortunately aklways just a bit off the mark. Glad I gave it away rather than selling so I know where it is and can still go visit it.
There is another video on TH-cam by a fellow named Marty T. He had a barn find of an Allis Chalmers tractor that had been linked away for 20 years. It also came with a buzz saw attachment on the PTO. He did a great job getting everything running again.
Not a 1945 model. WD 45's weren't built until 1953. The similar but less powerful WD which this tractor is were built from 48 through early 53. My dad and I owned a 52 WD that had a WD45 carburetor, manifold, crank and oversize sleaves and piston.
ya i had one for reverse the was a little lever on the side of the shifter you nwould pull the lever toward the shifter knob and that would allow your shifter to move all the way to the right then you either went strait up or down i forget wich way . that one is also a rowcrop. ours was a few years older that yours. those tractors do flip easily because its a rowcrop so i wouldnt allow the kid on it
The other commenters were correct.. With a locked up left brake and you hit the throttle it could back up over you real easy in forward gear.. Had a neighbour die that way.. Went thru a muddlt road ditch and gor stuck.. Gave it some throttle and up she went sand drove him into the mud.
Lucky it is 12 volts. I have ford Fetguson which is 6 volts. Can't get a battery. That one has an alternator? The brake is stuck on the left. Where is that? Great video.
Thanks a lot it was originally 6v it had a generator a long time ago you can put 12 volts to a 6 volt starter that’s why it spins over so fast it’s just not recommended to do it long yes the brake is stuck thanks for watching
It's really sad that your camera screwed up during part of the video when it sarted screwing up over 2/3 of the screen. It's good that your windshield in your car doesn't do that. It must be a manufacturer's defect in a lot of cameras because I've seen it before. The company that makes those cameras should have a massive recall!!!!!! I sure hope my camera never does that.

great vid, good work, but I was thinking the same, I am overly protective to a fault, and one fault I am willing to live with.

Just a suggestion the best way to clean carburetor I found is just boil in water and dish washing soap until you hear pop is works for me every time.

The wd engine wasn't rebored. The 45 had a 1/2 inch longer stroke but the same bore as the wd which was a square engine.
Old is gold
Your son reminds me of me on oklahoma farm in early early 1950s great life to you all
