6:07 that is a feedwater heater. Feedwater heaters on steam locomotive preheat the water before it’s pumped into the boiler, which improves the locomotives performance
Rapido has put itself at the top of manufacturing because of detail like what is displayed here in your review. I do thing that the cogging at low speed will lesson after a good run-in session. Great video, Jersey Bill
Rapido has always published in their manuals "Awesome slow speed thingy". IT WORKS! You only have to set one CV and turn on the bell and it will run a couple feet "sensing" the load, current, etc and automatically adjust the back EMF. My Rapido loco's will run smoothly on speed step 1, it's incredible. I don't have any Rapido Steam engines, but I'm sure it works the same.
I hate I had to cancel the preorder on mines but oh well. Still a nice looking model that'll be right at home with the Royal Hudson rapido did a while back
As always Sir! Great Review and Presentation! Rapido does a Amazing Job with their models! I still today do the same as when I was younger with new trains! First thing I do Is smell the box then the foam and then the model! Lol My better half use to look at me like I was crazy but once I let her smell it she is right there with me when I open a new model! Amazing Engine! Thanks for Sharing!
@@dougbailey392 There is a function for the 5 chime on 2816 but it is only a pre recorded crossing sequence with doppler effects. There might be a 5 chime in the decoder that you would have to change CVs for but I don’t know for sure since mine hasn’t come in yet
Here in the US the regulations only require diesel locomotives built sometime around 1957 and after to have them. It’s why on tourist lines you see ALCO diesels built in the 1940’s like the RS-3 not have them but ones built in the mid to late 1950’s like the ALCO’s on the Grand Canyon Railway do. To my knowledge, steam engines are exempt from that regulation which is why TVRM 610 which was built in 1952 isn’t required to have them.
Rapido truly does a great job on the packaging for their models and the quality of the manuals.
Dude! I always wanted a "Steve train"! 🤣 j/k buddy lol. Thinking of ordering the black tender version 🤔. Nice little loco!
6:07 feedwater heater. Pre-heated water before being boiled. This was a hallmark feature of both CP and CN steam designs

Can you alternate between both whistles or do you have to reprogram the CV?
Just Doppler whistle and whistle functions can be pressed, otherwise cvs needed

James, the class lights are just green and white.
that's cool yet I'm disappointed due to its gray boiler, it should be a shade of sand-blue
Can you do a video on open the tender?
Check out ravehawk6910 @ravenhawk6910 he opened it up
It might be interesting to see the big boy with ditch lights. Although I hope it don't happen.
