Another reason why the 70's were the greatest decade for music
YEP! ✌
Reason #1,000,001
One of my 3 favorite songs in the world.
I often see people comment how the 80's were the best decade for music and there is no doubt that there were some great and memorable pop/rock songs in that era. However if you dive deeper into 70's music, its pretty obvious which period had more quality across the genres.
@@Progbassist people that say 'the 80's' are probably mostly those who grew up in the 80's, that for many it was their initiation into really getting into music with their friends -- it's 'home' for them nowadays so they're partial to that.
Back when we still had real music....
They still make good music, it just requires searching. Good stuff used to be top 40 on the radio. Nowadays, the best stuff goes largely unnoticed. Check out 1) Nathaniel Rateliff " time makes fools of us all" released 3 days ago 2) War On Drugs " clean living" 3) Beth Hart - Spirit of God. Even the old bands are making their best stuff. Styx's 2017 album " the mission" is their best ever. Check out " red storm".
@@dawnpatrol700These are all great but it’s definitely not as prolific with well done music like it was then. You didn’t have to look hard at all.
@@benjammin7729All you had to do was turn on your car radio.
@@dawnpatrol700 Thanks for the tips, I will check them out.
i guess you don't listen to more recent music? There is amazing music out there right now since the 70's.
"If I claim to be wise man, it surely means I don't know." A whole lot of people haven't learned that yet.
After 50 yrs, this is still one of my alltime favorite songs. As you can see, for good reason!
One word: masterpiece!
1976 on American Mainstream Radio you would have heard Carry On My Wayward Son (Kansas), Lowdown (Boz Scaggs), Takin' it to the Streets (Doobie Brothers), Kid Charlemagne (Steely Dan), I Wish (Stevie Wonder), More Than a Feeling (Boston), Hotel California (Eages), Go Your Own Way (Fleetwood Mac), Night Moves (Bob Seger), American Girl (Tom Petty & Heartbreakers), Somebody to Love (Queen), The Masquerade (Goeoge Benson), The Things We Do for Love (10cc), New York State of Mind (Billy Joel), Can't Hide Love (Earth, Wind, & Fire), Getaway, (Earth, Wind, & Fire), The Pretender (Jackson Browne), Mainstreet (Bob Seeger), Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (AC/DC), Livin' Thing (ELO), Blinded By the Light (Manfred Mann), Don't Fear the Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult). Rich Girl (Hall & Oates), Lido Shuffle (Boz Scaggs), Still the One (Orleans), Fox on the Run (The Sweet), You're My Best Friend (Queen),
This whole album is just top-tier. Absolutely amazing. There are no fillers
Nick had permanent stank face the whole song 😂 What a classic
Amazing Progressive Band !!! KANSAS 🖤
The video hasn't come out yet but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the FIRE button will be pushed. One of the best rock tunes ever written and performed.
You were WRONG!! It was the FIREWORKS button that was pushed! 🤣😂
We certainly were the luckiest generation when you play instruments. Your soul comes through that instrument.
☮️❤️🙏🌏🌍🌎🇺🇸❤️☮️
Sounds just as good today as when it first hit the charts back in the day!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
The whole album is that good.
This song has so many time changes within the first 45 seconds and it just rocks every moment.
Oh, my goodness!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ oh.........so many wonders with Kansas!!!!! Masterful musicians, but the vocals are unforgettable.....
And don't forget the lyrics "Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man. Though my mind could think I still was a mad man."
❤@@robertfindley921
Love this song! Kansas was a great band from the 70's. Their musical style is a fusion of hard rock, southern rock & progressive rock. "Carry On Wayward Son" & "Dust In The Wind" are their 2 biggest hits. But they had other good songs such as "Point Of Know Return", "Hold On", "People Of The South Wind", "Play The Game Tonight", "Fight Fire With Fire", "All I Wanted" etc.
So many great songs a rabbit hole yous want to go down! Also song i suggest is Kansas song Portrait ( He Knew)!
though All I Wanted is from the 86 album Power
I hope you get a chance to see the video of them performing- it’s just. So. Great!
This, is the greatest song ever written. That’s all I have to say about that. 🤟🏼
This came out when I was in 8th grade and it was being played constantly on the cafeteria juke box…1976 was an awesome year for music…that juke box was always busy…Respect…
Just turned my 18 yo grandson to Kansas❤

Jukebox in cafeteria? That's cool!
They were struggling for ideas for an album, and so Kerry Livegren went off and wrote the whole masterpiece, Leftoverture, in a weekend.
Kerry is amazing
True I watched the documentary, I really like Miracles out of Nowhere.
Part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. I was blessed to grow up during the 70s music scene.
A song truly worthy of a firework finale. Great choice. Made the 4th pop even more.
True classic - makes you want to replay it right away ...
Such a classic rock song, I’ve always loved this one. You have to be dead not to move to this groove.
If you watched Supernatural, you heard it there.
You said, "they went back to Kansas" and I pictured them clicking their heels together three times and saying, "there's no place like home; there's no place like home..."🧙♀🪄🤣
Best outro of any song ever! The whole album is just beautiful!
What could be more perfect for the 4th of July than classic rock. And this was killer. Every second was KILLER. Thank. You. Nick.
Hoping this is the first of many Kansas reactions- Glimpse of Home, Miracles out of Nowhere and Closet Chronicles are other must do songs for the channel just to name a few 🤘
Yeah it hit us pretty much the same way back in 1976, I owned this LP as soon I could purchase it, a few days after hearing it on the radio.
Kansas certainly did make a name for themselves, they still are very distinct, for me anyway, 48 years old and it still just rocks.
This song is a straight up f'in banger. Whenever they played this song in the show Supernatural, you knew shit was about to get real.
Makes me want to drive a 1967 Chevy Impala into the sunset 🤟🤟
@@CaptainHowdy-oz1fg Do you know Jensen Ackles got to keep that car after the show ended?
@@eviltreesloth
That's awesome!
Even if some of the episodes fell a bit flat, the classic rock soundtrack always made up for it!
@@CaptainHowdy-oz1fgall episodes in the first five seasons were gold
Kansas prog at its most down to earth
A little trivia for you. Back in the mid-nineties, there was a baseball player for the San Francisco Giants named Mark Carreon. Every time he hit a homerun or got a highlight worthy hit, Chris Berman on Sports Center would say, "It's Mark Carreon My Wayward Son." Obviously, in reference to this song. Chris was legendary for making the music references with athletes.
So good in the 70's. Seen them when I was in high school. One of my favorite drummers.
Phil Ehart is massively underrated
The tastiest guitarist/ artist 🎸 that ever lived.Tommy Bolin- Post Toastee ( 76) RIP So greasy & funky you'll have to open the window for air!
Love Kansas and Tommy Bolin as well- post toastee would be an epic reaction for the channel- also gettin’ tighter from Deep Purple CTTB
Supernatural🔮
Dean and Sam Winchester🥰
Got to LOVE this song and Nick's face throughout!!!
Kansas: 'Miracles Out Of Nowhere' is even better. It's a magical spiritual journey.
THANKS GUYS 😁🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
The 70's is the greatest era of music ever! I'd expand to 50's-70's.
Just transport me back to 1978. Saw them in New Haven Connecticut. One of the best summers ever. I saw The Eagles, Styx, Jackson Browne, Frampton, Boston, Foghat, Kiss, The Outlaws, and The Moody Blues. And a little known band called Van Halen who opened up for Black Sabbath. Sabbath had a bad night after Van Halen left the stage. People went nuts for Van Halen. 15 year old me was transformed that year. I must have done a lot of babysitting because my parents never would have paid for a concert ticket for me.
Van Halen opening for Sabbath was my very first concert, but in San Diego. Amazing amazing amazing concert!!!!!
Back in the 70's Kansas was recording in a studio adjacent to a studio where Heart was also cutting an album. When Ann Wilson (one of the most iconic singers, male or female, in all of rockdom) heard Steve Walsh singing, she paused their recording and went next door to see who the hell was behind that incredible voice! That's pretty high praise.
The Theme Song of Supernatural.
I've heard this song many years ago and it really is unforgettable. The only thing on the same level were Nick's faces during listening. I thought I'm the only one who makes them but I was wrong. The harmonies, transitions and energy are legendary. Awesome pick!
I love you guys! Keep reacting to the great music of the 70s and 80s! The best decades of music IMO. 🙌🏼😁♥️
The Kansas and Boston concert in Chicago has been changed to the Boston and Chicago concert in Kansas. Keep your tickets. They will be honored at the door.
Hope everyone can make the "Journey" to the new venue.
@@Critical_Thinker858 Don't board the plane to Asia. Stay in America.
Dust In The Wind is my favorite by them.
One of THE BEST SONGS from my High School years at parties. The best memories ever!
This is a BANGER!! Unofficial theme song of a little show😊called Supernatural that ran from 2005-2020. It’s played at different times throughout the 15 yrs of the series. It fits the story lines in that series to a T! Jensen Ackles&Jared Padalecki were playing brothers whose journey was tough. NOTE: There’s a live concert vid from the 70’s that I wish you would find and watch. In 2024 it’s both funny&Amazing.
Phil Ehart -- seriously underrated and underappreciated drummer. My drum teacher in college, who had been a Vegas show drummer in the 70's, was a big fan of Phil's.
This song is just what I needed for the 4th of July, I congratulate America on Independence Day! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲 This song had great arrangements and transitions, bass, guitars, vocals, organ, just perfect, this song will be included in my personal playlist.
Saw them live in LA in 1982 and will se them again this August. They are quite the band, even live.
As a caregiver and single parent of my special needs son I really identify with the lyrics😢
The actual music is fantastical!
This song is in the pantheon of all time rock greats. It takes me right back to 1977 with Kansas blasting out of the single dash speaker of my sweet, sweet '72 Fury. 😄
This is one of the most iconic songs in all of music. The musicianship is stellar, the vocals just outstanding and the composition and arrangement of the song is perfection. I don't if you have heard of them, but there's a professional cover band out of Kentucky called the Lexington Lab Band. They are a collection of outstanding session musicians and session singers whose covers are almost perfect. They have a YT channel and a 250+ song catalogue and there isn't a mediocre performance on their list. They did a live version of Carry On a short while that is outstanding. They had about 15 people on stage. Five or six guitarists, bass, keyboards, drums (including timbales and congas) and four backup singers. It is an amazing performance and I think you would like it. IMHO they are the finest cover band I've ever heard. You will enjoy them.
This came out year I graduated from high school and they have been my favorite band since. Steve Walsh is the greatest rock singer of all time! Actually there is nothing he can’t sing
You should watch the video of them performing it live! It's fantastic!
Kansas and Styx, USA's 70's prog bands.
Don't forget Yes!
@@Straydogger Sorry, Yes is from England not USA, but awesome none the less.👍
Don’t forget Boston!🤘🎸
FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm 69. Saw them in concert in 1977. Opening band was Loverboy. Great night!! They don't make music like that anymore!
Great song, and Nick's facial expressions are hilarious, please do "California " by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, you'll love it!
A song with a similar vibe that NO ONE reacts to is "Last Chance" by the band Shooting Star. Multiple movements, dramatic vocals, GIANT drums. I think you'd love it. Very inspired by Kansas.
He has such a beautiful voice. (Plus...Supernatural!)
Thank you for sharing this musical masterpiece. Kansas has often offered incredible pieces of magical wonder. Good to see your reaction, as well!
My favorite band of all time: Steve Walsh-Lead Vocals, Keyboards, Percussion, Kerry Livgren-Guitars, Keyboards, the main song writer, Robbie Steinhardt-Violin and Lead Vocals on some songs, Phil Ehart-Drums, Rich Williams-Guitars, and Dave Hope-Bass. Carry On Wayward Son was the song that was their first hit, their debut, Song For America, Masque were their albums before Leftoverture. Their first 3 album were superb, in my opinion, but like Boston's debut, not a bad song on Leftoverture. Point Of Know Return is superb, Monolith and Audio Visions great as well. Vinyl Confessions came next featuring John Elefante as their new lead vocalist-Keyboards and guitars, great as well, but without Steve Walsh. Drastic Measures was next, not great, but had some good songs. I lost track after their album Power, but The Prelude Implicit and Absence Of Presence are stellar! Thank you for reacting to my favorite group since 1974! I hope you react to more! Anything from Leftoverture and Point Of Know Return(Dust In The Wind or Point Of Know Return are great choices, they're the hits), Closet Chronicles, Lighting's Hand, Sparks Of The Tempest, Nobody's Home are all great choices. Hopefully you'll react to Can I Tell You, Lonely Wind, The Pinnacle, Song For America, Incomudro-Hymn To The Atman, Icarus Borne On Wings Of Steel, People Of The Southwind, Relentless, Hold On, Got To Rock On, Play The Game Tonight, Chasing Shadows, Window's, Crossfire, Fight Fire With Fire, End Of The Age, and Incident On A Bridge. Again Thank you, I hope you're well! I'm looking forward to your reaction!
Mine also! My sister who is not a big rock lover thought Kansas wasn’t a band but an orchestra. Couldn’t put it better myself.
When the song ended, no one said a word! I love it! Speechless, the proper response to a masterpiece! If you ever see the video for this, you'll see a guy with huge hair, that is Robbie Steinhardt, the violin player for Kansas, but there isn't any violin in the song so he's singing backing vocals, playing the tambourine! Robbie, R.I.P., sings lead on some songs, his violin is one of the reasons Kansas has a unique sound! On Leftoverture I recommend: The Wall, Miracles Out Of Nowhere Magnum Opus, Cheyenne Anthem. Point Of Know Return is great as well: Dust In The Wind is the obvious choice, but Point Of Know Return, Portrait He Knew, Closet Chronicles, Lighting's Hand, Sparks Of The Tempest, and Nobody's Home are great choices! From there, I'd check out Icarus Borne On Wings Of Steel, Song For America, Can I Tell You, Lonely Wind, and The Pinnacle.
Pay Close Attention to That Fucking Drummer
👏😍
Spot on. Phil Ehart was an absolute beast behind that kit. Criminally under appreciated.
Phil is the backbone of the band.
More hooks than a tackle box this tune. What an absolute banger. It's also got one of the all time great arrangements too.
That is one of two Kansas songs I can name right off the top of my head if someone asks (the other being Dust in the Wind, of course). And I had this album back in the day!
It's not that all their other songs are shit, not by a long shot. It's just that those two songs are so good, and so widely played, that they tend to overshadow everything else they did.
Kansas are genius musicians and song writers beloved worldwide they filled huge stadiums all over the world ❤️🕊️🙌👏👏
One of the greatest rock songs ever. Easily top 100.
Song For America, The Wall, and Lamplight Symphony are outstanding songs. Although some original members are not with the band anymore, and we lost Robbie Steinhardt (violin) on July 17th three years ago (RIP ❤), they are still an incredible band to see live. Saw them last summer on their 50th Anniversary tour and it was amazing like they always are.
REALLY enjoyed your reaction guys! Thanks.
I can imagine BAND-MAID covering this song
My Favorite 🙏.....Nick....You Kill Me!!!👍🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨
I saw them in concert when they were on tour promoting this album release , with Bad Company. What an amazing concert. Sweet memories !
One word to describe this song! EPIC!
GREAT 👍👍👍👍 SONG FOR TODAY🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was 13 when I first heard this and every other 70s song. It was a fun time because all we had to do was listen to music and soak it all into our little sponges and now its stuck in mine forever. ❤😅
I think this song is about returning vets. The different tempos shows the various emotions. Anger, fear, horror, insomnia. Then the lyrics....listen how they accurately reflect those emptions. In particular, the returning Vietnam vets, who were DRAFTED and were spit on and reviled. Young boys who had no idea about politics......exposed to horrific tragedies. "Lay your weary head to rest...dont you cry no more." Listen again now and think about it.
This entire album is absolutely one of the greatest rock albums ever. They are such great musicians and were so incredibly tight on this recording that every song is amazing.
The song with the best vocal intro ever recorded. You couldn't do much wrong! Chapeau!
great song when it came on the radio in the car.....rock on, from LA
Happy 4th of July! Yes what a flippin amazing cut! On my gardenin play list, my Neiubours know it too😂
Dam back in our Party days. We has 6 copies of Kansas live at the Whisky. We had great field parties.
Always went missing😂😂
The sad thing for me is that there will probably never be music this good ever again!!
Hopefully hearing the classic rock will start a fire in some young mind... 🎶 🎸
The lead singer & drummer of the band FIDLAR once did this at Karaoke. That says so much about that band.
The video shows them performing this live and it’s incredible. The lead singer is playing organ and congas as well!
A completely perfect song from start of finish. I also heard someone say it’s a song full of hooks, from the vocals to the riffs to the solos, they’re all hooks and that sounds correct to me. It all hooks you in
Lads you must watch the live version of this lead singer Steve Walsh is unreal
Hey! I haven't " been on" for a while with you 3....or in this case 2. Never the less, glad to see you again!!! This IS a great song! June - Maine
Another great song on the same album "What's on My Mind" great vocals and ending, and if you really want to dive in....."Song for America". One of my all time favourites since it first came out. They were fantastic live too!
This song came out my senior year of high school. It’s in my top ten of all time. And you’re right. It’s muy caliente! 🤟🏼🔥
""""AWESOMENESS 😎😎😎😎😎😎!!!!!🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨
"Nothing equals the splendor" greatest line in rock.
This is such a great great great song that I have heard sooooo many times I kind of take it for granted, but WOW it has to be one of the best rockers of all time
Every performance on this song is straight-up fire.
A cornerstone of classic rock….iconic. Guys, c’mon…..anytime you run a rock/classic rock song from the 70s-80s, you gotta do the video, it’s part of the story. 😎🔥🤘
Awesome song! The message is long lasting and encouraging. And there is often heard a spiritual tone that, " The Most High," saying to, " carry on, dont give up, dont quit."
I love you guys when you crack up at each other. It shows your having fun doing what your doing, and that's a great thing.
I love your reviews - informative, and fun. Oh, and great bands all....
Great reaction guys! Not sure what you pulled the audio from but the sound quality is outstanding. So, kudos there. This is one of the first songs I learned as I was making the move from guitar to bass at the age of 15. I LOVE this bass line. Great band and song for the 4th of July. American to the core! These guys are phenomenal artists and I can't wait for you to explore more of the Kansas discography. While very different sounding from Carry On, (much more somber theme and song) Dust in the Wind is probably their other best known/loved song. So, hopefully, you'll hit that at some point. Fight Fire with Fire is another one as is Point of Know Return.
More fire please!!! The hot flames of my favorite band that is Kansas!!!!
