Long story but an important one and a story that gets overlooked a lot. The first time the Beatles came to America, they played Ed Sullivan in NY. Then they played Washington DC. Then they were going to play the south. They were told their first stop in the south was Jacksonville Florida. They were then told that the shows in the south were segregated. The actual Beatles (not their management) said we will NOT play any of these shows that are segregated. Call each of the venues and tell them we're not coming. All of these venues gave in and desegregated the shows. Because of that, other bands demanded the same thing. They had guts back then to stand up and say, we will not play to segregated audiences. First group to do that!!!!!!
@@RealityReactions Well, you heard Paul’s raw singing voice. How about the same from John? Although they didn’t write it, their version of “Twist And Shout” stands out. You really can’t go wrong with The Beatles though. They have a HUGE repertoire of great songs.
Excellent reaction to one of my favorite Beatles songs! Subbed! Billy Preston was an old friend of theirs from their days playing in Hamburg, Germany, in the early '60's. George Harrison invited him to join them for the Let It Be sessions, and it was the spark they needed to get out of the dark state of mind they all seemed to be in. He added new life to a few of their songs, like Let It Be, Don't Let Me Down, Get Back and I Want You (She's So Heavy). Subbed!
Nice reaction, ladies. I will recommend the show "Get Back" which shows Billy contributing wonderfully to The Beatles. You would totally enjoy "Get Back", especially the iconic Rooftop farewell performance!
This was on the Abbey Road album, I used to listen to the whole album from beginning to end every time I’d babysit at my sisters house, it’s one of the first Album I ever purchased along with Tower of Power Bump City.
billy preston didn't actually play on this recording. the song was released in sept 1969 on the "abbey road" album. the footage is from the jan '69 "get back" sessions which led to the "let it be" album and film where billy appeared to play on some of the tracks. the only original music video made for the "abbey road" album is that for rheir single from that album "something." which just kinda shows them walking around individually with their respective wives. thanks for the video.
Imagine the music that could have been if Billy and the Beatles had stayed together to make more albums. He added another level of chemistry to an amazing group.
If U guys want to actually see AND HEAR Billy Preston playing with the Beatles, check out the famous ROOFTOP concert of Apple Records, their last public performance. The song where Preston played and has artistic credit, is for Get Back, during the Rooftop Concert. George Harrison was friends with Billy and invited Billy to sit in with The Beatles up on their roof. It was MAGICAL. Billy and all the Beatles hit it off immediately -- and U could see the positive influence Billy Preston had on the fab four, who had not been getting along with one another so smoothly, due, in part to a combination of familiarity, deadline pressures and all the other baggage that develops naturally over time. U guys bring a new excitement to the older Beatles fans among us. thank you !! There's only 42 more days till the Trump 2.0 tsunami hits. Billy Preston didn't play on this song, it was Paul on the piano. He appears in this video as the footage was taken in the earlier 'Get Back' sessions, although he did play on an alternate recording they later released.

Best way to listen to this song is in its order on the album. It’s from Abbey Road listen to side one all the way through the side to all the way through.
That video was odd and just something that someone through together. Those were clips from Peter Jackson's "Get Back" series that premiered on Disney+ in November and December 2021. It was an 8 hr documentary of The Beatles recording their "Let It Be" Lp in January, 1969. You can purchase the 2 CD set for around 30.00. It's a fascinating window to watch how their creative process worked and well worth a watch. The film is them recording and writing songs that culminated at the end with their live Rooftop concert on top of their Apple offices in London "Let It Be" was their last Lp released in 1970 but was like I said, recorded between Jan and early Feb 1969. The project was shelved until 1970 because the band was in disarray and there was so much music recorded. Billy Preston does appear on most of that album. He and The Beatles had a long history going back to 1960. In 60 The Beatles were playing a residency in Hamburg, Germany. This was pre Ringo who didn't join the band until 62. They had another drummer Pete Best who really wasn't that good. In 1960 John turned 20 in October, Paul turned 18 in June and little Georgie turned 17 in February. He had to get signed permission from his parents to the German government to enter the country. They were just kids. They met Preston who was only 14 and was a keyboard player in The Ray Charles Band. Think about that, he was 14 and living in a foreign country. The Beatles liked him and struck up a friendship with him. Forward to Jan, 69, The Beatles were recording "Let It Be" and there was a lot of tension in the band and it wasn't going well. In January, 69 Preston was in London and stopped by the studio to say hello. They were recording John's "Don't Let Me Down" which is a great track. They asked Billy if he would like to sit in on the electric piano. The mood brightened and the next day the band had a discussion on whether to ask Billy if he wanted to play on the album. You can watch this in the film, I think you girls would really enjoy the movie. They were laughing and saying why would we invite someone into all of this chaos but they did, Billy excepted and you can see it in the film that when he came in it instantly re energized the band. The whole mood changed in a great way. "Don't Let Me Down" didn't make it onto the "Let It Be" album but was released as the B-side on the "Get Back" single released in May, 1969. I hope this all isn't getting confusing. "Oh Darling" is from their last Lp recorded together "Abbey Road" released in September, 1969. Like I stated earlier, "Let It Be" was released in 1970 but recorded in Jan/Feb 1969 so "Abbey Road" was officially the last Beatles Lp recorded together. They pulled together one last time and boy did they go out on top as it's one of the most if not the most iconic Lp ever released. Some will argue that their 1966 Lp "Revolver" or their 1967 "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" Lp are the greatest ever. We're not talking greatest Beatles Lp ever but the greatest Lp ever. Pretty cozy position to be in, wouldn't you agree in as a band. Which of these three is the greatest Lp ever. That's The Beatles, that's who they were. Simply put, they were and still are the most progressive, influential and creative band in history and that's to right now. They officially split up in 1970 and right now they're still the biggest band on the planet. Vinyl LP's are a huge business again. Guess who over the last 10 years sales more vinyl every year in the US and abroad. That would be The Beatles, a band that broke up 54 years ago. By the way, take a deep dive down The Beatles rabbit hole and it's a deep one, over 200 songs and you will never be able to pick a favorite one. There's just too many great songs. Hope this was helpful for the two of you. One last thing here, Billy Preston also appeared on two tracks on "Abbey Road" George's "Something" a song that in 1970 big Frank Sinatra declared that it was the most beautiful love song written in the last 50 years. When big Frank spoke you listened. The other track is John's "I Want You (She's So Heavy). You gotta listen to that track it's killer. Anything from " Abbey Road" you want the 2019 50th anniversary remixes, they sound incredible. As a matter of fact, starting with the 1966 "Revolver" 1967 "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band", 1968 the "White Album" 1969 "Abbey Road" and 1970 "Let It Be" have all been remixed for anniversary remixes and sound incredible. So any songs you pull up see if there's a remix of it. To complicate matters in 1974 there were two double Lp compilations released. The Beatles 1962-1966 also known as the red album and The Beatles 1967-1970 AKA The Blue Album. In September 2023 they released remixes of both album's and there's a bunch of bonus tracks on both. The Red one early tracks from 1963 to 1965 sound incredible. So even early stuff check for remixes. Check out the remix of their 1964 #1 hit "I Feel Fine" it sounds incredible. By the way, the proper way to listen to The Beatles is through headphones to really appreciate just how talented they were. They were a tight band, really great musicians. One more thing here George's "Here Comes The Sun" remix from "Abbey Road" is a must and there's a nice video with it. One of my top three Beatles songs if I have a top three, that's a tough one but that one is way up there. On "Abbey Road" George stole the spotlight from John and Paul.
