Mr. Hair is Robby Steinhardt and he's a monster violin player. Just so happens that this piece doesn't have a violin part so he looks like he doesn't do much besides vocals (and tambourine, apparently) but he's a huge part of the unique Kansas sound.

@@ffjsb The band was never "all Christians." None of them were Christians at the time this song was recorded. Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope became Christians. Steve Walsh left the band over not wanting to sing the lyrics Livgren wrote after his conversion. None of the other band members proclaimed they were Christian. Livgren and Hope left the band and new versions of Kansas have used them as "guests" at times.

Walsh was not going to be lead vocals. While laying some tracks at a local place in Kansas, everyone went to lunch, except Walsh. He just hung out in the studio and was just belting out there songs. When everyone came back, the engineer realized that he had left a tape on recording. He ran it back and hit play. He called the band in to see who this was on tape. They looked around and figured that it could only be Steve Walsh, they didn't know that he could sing like that.

The guitarist wearing the shirt with no sleeves played the piano while the verses were being sung; and the one in the white tux did the acoustic guitar during the verses. Lead singer played organ, bongos and sang.

The "Beard Mane" dude (Robby Steinhart) plays a killer violin. Check out "Bringin' It Back." Generally, Kerry Livgren plays the piano, as well as guitar, and Steve Walsh (singer) plays the organ. The one in the Tux is Rich Williams. He is usually wearing a suit or a tux. Dave Hope is the Bass player. And Phil Ehart is the drummer.
This is my #1 favorite band.

This song is great, but check out Song for America, an absolute work of art that is sometimes overlooked.

Queen & Kansas toured together some & both bands had a lot of respect for each other. Very perceptive comment.

The guy in the tux is named Rich Williams. He was an original member of Kansas. He is not the main guitarist in the band. The main guitarist is Kerry Livgren, the guy with the long blond hair. Livgren also was the writer of this song. I saw Kansas play live at the Lakeland Civic Center, February 12, 1977. I still have the ticket stubs. The admission price was a whopping $5.50. And the opening band for Kansas on that tour was Styx, if you can believe that!

Great song.....loved Kansas back in high school. 🎼🎶🎶🤘😎a capella..... while we are doing music terminology, we get forte, allegro, vibrato, and legato before they finish this song. 🎶🎶🎶🎶❤️side note- when they come out of the bridge....he turns up his vocals....no joke.🔥

My son is only 16 but plays this on guitar, bass and keyboards. Wild that he would like a band from the 70's! Lol

Back then each musician was free to express their style individually even when part of a band….. whether it be clothing, makeup, etc….Collaboration among musicians was amazing……!!! I watched a piano player play without shoes…yes bear foot… :=)
