This is the fourth leftover from the marathon! We have been trying hard to get the fifth and final song through copyright, but we are not sure if it will ever make it through. Thanks!
Love your reactions ❤🔥 Please check out Cook with Fire by Heart. Original recording sounds live but I read that it isn't live, and the live one on TH-cam sounds TERRIBLE. The song is 🔥 🔥!!!! You will thank me after😊😊😊
What word did you think it was? I'm lost duh😂😮😂
One of the greatest power pop albums ever.
Indeed!
One of the most underrated rock solos of all time. This dude could play with anyone
100% agree. Solo is PURE FILTH. And doesn’t get anywhere near the recognition it deserves.
You can't hate this song. It won't let you. And I do LOVE the guitar solo.
Great comment!
It's one of my favourite solos.
For a while I believed that I was the only one who understood how EPIC the guitar solo is.
If someone wrote a song like this today it’d never make it on the radio and that is a damn shame. Thank God there was some good music made before people started taking themselves too seriously.
...The only reason it "wouldn't make it on the radio" [if such a thing, still, EXISTED!] is 'cause: It's too GOOD! 👍👍
...I mean: I don't recall ANYONE bringing-up, even, the POTENTIAL of a relationship that Feiger had with a girl, AT THE TIME, AT ALL (MAYBE in California where "gossip is stock-in-trade,"🙄 but: it was NEVER mentioned, AT ALL, elsewhere! ...until (at MINIMUM!) decades later!!!)!!!!
...Nowadays there are voluminous amounts of [so-called!] "artists" **cough-cough** who wrote lyrics about "if you don't prefer anal, g.t.f.o." and other such shit. "Lurid" doesn't even BEGIN to cover it! Openly "rapey" **ahem--ahem!!!!** "culture" and assertions/attitudes are EXPECTED and celebrated!! ...so: your idea that "this song would never make it on the radio" (if such a thing, even, EXISTED, anymore!) is, likely, from an older, more appropriate sensibility and an unfamiliarity with the openly, lewd, stupid, pointless shit that passes as "lyrical content" in the current day & age!
...or from someone who did not grow-up knowing anything better/less intolerably stupid and aggressive🤦) which (despicably and, actually, sadly!) masquerades as/under the fallacy of: 'expressive freedom' 🤦🙄, nowadays...🙄🙄)
No, seriously!!
It is definitely one of the greatest guitar solos EVER! Note perfect. Just amazingly written and played.
It sure is. Always been my favorite part of this song.
And it does everything I love in a solo. Everything.
@@TrailerBob Yes, it's epic.
Huge hit back then. Constantly on the radio.
Nearly HOURLY, in 1980!! 🤘🤘
Insane guitar solo and drums... To the beginning at last! I LOVE THIS SONG!
Glad you guys touched on the guitar solo. I’ve been saying this is one of the most underrated and unappreciated solos for 40 years. Well thought out and well played and fit perfectly with the song.
Sharona was one of 4 "Knackettes". The girls followed them to all their shows and Doug fell in love with Sharona and the rest is history.
Yes...but Doug died!!
That part near the end of the solo when the guitar descends with the tom roll omg it gets me every time. Listening to this song makes me feel like a pinball on an extended play. I swear it's dangerous to play when driving it just takes over.
"I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind" WTF!!
Their next hit was "Good Girls Don't" which reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is also a "dirty minded" song.
"And she makes you want to scream; wishing you could get inside her pants" (this line was re-recorded as "wishing she was givin' you a chance" on the "clean" single release):
And it's a teenage sadness
Everyone has got to taste.
An in-between age madness
That you know you can't erase
Til she's sitting on your face (and it hurts!).
The "clean" single edit also changed this last line to "when she puts you in your place."
They should react to that one! I LOVE that tune!
That song PALES in comparison (and over the past 4-5 decades has NEVER "grown on me." ) "Good Girls Don't" is (musically!) terrible [whether in comparison or on-it's-own!].
@@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra The lyrics and the chorus made that song a hit. Everyone in high school loved it!
I NEEDED this today, Thank You. This song just puts you in a great mood.❤
When this came out in '79 it was at the time when New Wave songs were first beginning to make it onto the mainstream rock stations. This was a track that both the classic rockers and the New Wavers liked. And yes, the guitar solo is killer. By the way, the single version left out a large section of the guitar solo.
It's not like he was a geezer, he was 26-27, she was 17, inappropriate and all, but she turned legal in a year, and was his girlfriend, in the end it's NBD.
Tighter, Tighter by Alive and Kickin from 1970! GREAT CLASSIC
My brother used to sing "My Scrotum!"
A mild head banger... song really opens up at the solo!
❤This is on my "Sombody has a case of the Mondays" playlist along with Love Shack by B-52's works everytime🤸♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️
This brings me back to the summer right before I started high school. I have this on a playlist and I listen to it at least once a week.
Weird Al's parody is called My Bolona.
This went to #1 for 6 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 starting in August 1979.
The Knack actually had another hit -- "Good Girls Don't". And all their songs and albums are excellent
React to this, please! So good!
I have been incessantly listening to The Knack's third album, "Round Trip". It's both round, and a trip, hence the title.
I CANNOT STOP LISTENING TO IT! I originally bot it in 1981. Do a reaction to "Another Lousy Day in Paradise". DO IT!
I was 21 when this record came out. A great song. Pomp up the volume! 🎶🎶🎶👍
This song was playing on my 8trac in my 1969 dodge coronet when I wrapped it around a tree. I had it through the 90’s blood still covering it but played until I lost it in storage
i had the sameDodge ..my first car...aquamarine metal blue. my 8 track had Abraxas and Wheels of Fire
This whole album is fire. The opener "Let Me Out" was the b-side to this song, and arguably as good or better. Drummer Bruce Gary was a beast behind the kit.
This was so much fun to dance to!
Bruce Gary [the band's drummer], RARELY gets his deserved accolades!
(perhaps among other musicians 🤷)
...but he is a monster player, in fact.
As much as Fieger & Averre were "the song-writing team" (for the most part);
the core reason for the band's tightness, rapid-fire energy & overall quality, were
(the rock rhythm section of):
Drummer, Bruce Gary
and
Bassist, Prescott Niles.
Bruce DID have the advantage of being the only member born & bred in N.Y.C. 😋🤘🤘
...but y'know.... 🤷🤪
-The entire Get The Knack album is, top-to-bottom, worthwhile!
"Lucinda" is one of my most favorite "unknown" (to MOST people) cuts! 🤘🤘
...Get The Knack
and Round Trip
are necessary albums in the collection of anyone who: really likes music from this period; any pop-radio-leaning, melodic rock fan, any new wave fan and any fan of the brief fart of a "movement" which often is, now, "historicalized" as "California Power-Pop" or "the Power-Pop movement of the late '70s & early '80s" (in the U.S., that ONLY existed in Cali.!).
Anyhow: underappreciated, excellent albums!
🤘🤘
Many fellow drummers said Bruce had the fastest right foot in the business.
@@Coowallsky 🤘🤘
That solo!! 🔥
Wow i did not realize it was a naughty song. I guess i never paid attention to the lyrics. I know there is a lot of parodys! It brings me back to my neighborhood in Chicago area, listening to it as a very little kid when the older neighbors played this on their radios playing "Kick the Can" or "tag". Fun song and so simple!
Definitely one of the best solos you will ever hear.
We made up words a lot to songs back in the day😂 ours for this one was “ My Scrotum”😂
Ours was I atola😂
My Big Bona!
Cheech and Chong did it first.
@@karmakat77 That is what Steve Dahl did in Chicago back in the day
I've been hearing My Sharona for 45 years and never really paid attention to the lyrics because the music was so fire. I just sloughed it off as a song about young love but one line in particular is highly questionable morally and possibly legally. Great melody and energy though and the guitar work throughout - lead, rhythm and bass - is outstanding especially the solo.
Perhaps the best example of a massive hit song with a great melody but misunderstood lyrics is Every Breath You Take by The Police. It's not a love song but a stalker/controlling song. Not only that but I maintain Sting more than borrowed words and theme, intentionally or not, for Every You Breath You Take from Led Zeppelin's D'Yer Mak'er from 10 years earlier.
No one misunderstood it in the jr high I went to 😂
This is a textbook example of an unexpected different song contained within a song. The entire song of verse and chorus is consistent and integrated throughout. Straightforward. Direct, uncomplicated sections and production. Then, out of the blue, a monster guitar solo that the listener does not see coming blows your head off and then, flip the switch and we're back to the rest of the song.
It's like they had My Sharona pretty much ready to record but it lacked that certain...something. On the side, the guitarist had this crazy solo thing he'd been working on, but it didn't really fit what the band was doing. So the band said, "Eff it! Just stick it in there, as is, near the end of the song. We'll do a short transition in and out, and we're done!"
Honestly, I wish they had written a song that sounded a lot more like the solo. The rest of the song is just a little too...basic for my tastes.
A number of songs have surprise moments where an entirely different song breaks out for a few bars, but this one takes the cake.
They had another song (good girls don't) that reached #11 in the US
if you google what "Sharona" looked like back in the day then you will totally get this song.
I had this on 8 track. Love the guitar solo
I've heard this song a thousand times, but never the longer version. I didn't realize what great musicians they were. BTW, Doug Feiger was a guest singer on some songs by Was (Not Was), another band you should have a listen to.
Suggestion 'Anyway You Want It" live in Houston. A different Journey than you have seen!!!!
Wow, the end was explosive ! It does get you moving . Yeah, kinda dirty like you said. Some times you can't hear the lyrics real good. And that can make it a little easier to block it out. Up to you.
This sonng is sooooo dirty. Loved it from the time it was released.
I remember it being a big deal because of the panting 😂
Spot on. Killer song and the solo just takes it to the next level. Top shelf!
Now listen to Weird Al's "My bologna"
Yes! You guys did it 😊. What a great song. Now I would LOVE for you guys to do some Billy Squire “My kinda lover”. Thanks guys your great and I love the channel! 😊👍🏻😘
This is a great song. And, it has a surprisingly good guitar solo towards the end. Great reaction!!
If you want to check out Sharona her picture is on the cover of the single. ❤
Great song & great guitar solo! Thanks for sharing!
Classic hit guys!! Love the review. Looking forward to the next reaction!🤘🔥
The guitar solo in this song cooks
what's still to come the one hit wonder reactions?
black betty by ram jam, one night in bangkok by murray head, relax by frankie goes to hollywood ???
A great guitar solo is one that fits the groove perfectly. It is not about your speed, your study of scales or your awesome distortion pedal. This is a great guitar solo.
Give it up wwoooh. Hot little wench.
My favorite Knack song is "Good girls don't" Kinda dirty but very catchy!
I always felt this song was somehow connected to Phil Collins’ “Sussudio”…..
I hope y’all listened to the album version or will have missed out on a greeeeeeeaaaaatttttttt guitar solo
Such an awesome riff….many hijo hop artists have sampled it many times over. Such a classic 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
What a brilliant track this is and ALLWAYS will be.
Doug Feiger's brother Geoff was Dr. Kevorkian's attorney,
Ooooo that bass!
The Knack's follow-up hit "Good Girls Don't" reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart. It's pretty catchy, too, but nothing compares to "My Sharona."
She's your adolescent dream,
Schoolboy stuff, a sticky sweet romance.
And she makes you want to scream,
Wishing you could get inside her pants.
So, you fantasize away.
And while you're squeezing her, you thought you heard her saying...
"Good girls don't,
Good girls don't,
Good girls don't, but I do."
*This band had another really good song called GOOD GIRLS DON'T.*
BUT *I* do...
A friend told me in 1979 It's the Knack! Haha
All right!!! Nary a pop song more potent than this vibe! I know you guys have never heard of K-Tel Records. but my brother & I used to roller skate in our basement listening to them...akin to a Spotify playlist nowadays..but this was on one of it's greatest hits of 1979 records! Check them out!
Such fun!!!! 🎶🎶🎶🎶
My Scrotum...lol
I know I'm showing my age, but whenever I hear this I think of that movie Reality Bites
can't wait.. gonna be good!!
Give it up? Never.
WE USED TO SAY ' MY MY MY MYYYY CORONA! 😊THERE WERE LOTSAAAA TOYOTA CORONA'S ON THE ROAD BACK THEN GUYS! 👍
Corolla?
Um, yea, I thought you were talking about a beer until you said Toyota and on the road.
Bob, I'm quite sure you're friends were singing about beer and you were confused. I don't think ANYONE registered a Corona at DMV.
(of course there's the anatomy meaning of Corona as well! - STILL never one registered at DMV!) Corona works better than Corolla, both because Corona rhymes, and nobody brags about their Corolla! 😆
This song reminds me of cheech!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
Good Girls Don't is a KILLER TUNE!
Definitely ISN'T.
@@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra I say it IS! ... Infinity....
@@NewOldVideos-d5o Hilarious. 🤪🙄
Know anything about song-writing??
I thought so.
The question isn't whether "you like it" or "think it's good"
...it's whether it is, actually, well-written (even if in a style some would find pedantic, boring, useless, et al.).
@@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra You tell me... You'll just have to guess. Have I written many song? Have I written sketches for comedians? Have I been in a band? Have I won awards for my art work? Have I booked bands and comedians for Harrah's Casino and Holiday Inns? Good Girls Don't is an excellent pop rock song. I'm sorry your intellect is getting in the way of enjoyment. I saw The Knack live in 00 when they were considered an oldies band. Doug Fieger RIP was singing. Awesome show.. Have a rockin' night
Check out this same group and their song "Good Girls Don't". I always wondered if it is the sequel or a different girl. Much more explicit lyrics. They really were not a one hit wonder.
With this song, resistance is futile. It just grabs you and take you for a ride. And while you're free to be as modest and self-effacing as you like, Nick, you're obviously very bright. (We can't, of course, account for your 10 year-old self. Just kidding.😆)
Nick! Please tell me what word you thought it was when you were a kid. In the comments, I've seen "bologna"...."scrotum". I have to know. Thanks, Buddy.
This was NOT their only hit Good Girls Don’t got a lot of airplay and a very cool song
Nick the rock star ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️
I appreciate that you included this in the marathon but this is not really a one hit wonder. Good Girls Don't was also a hit from this phenomenal debut record which is one of the finest debuts ever. Along the lines of Boston, The Cars and Van Halen and Foreigner from the same era.
As others have stated, The Knack was not quite a one hit wonder. Good Girls Don't made it pretty high on the charts too. My Sharona is definitely on every top list.
Love this song!
" I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind " ?!? Slightly raunchy lyrics. Good beat, though.
Close enough to be misheard as ‘other kind’, which gives them Plausible Deniability.
I mean I was 13 when this song came out. So a few of the risqué lyrics & innuendos were lost on us… Didn’t take long to figure it out though.
One thing that seems to go frequently unnoticed, and I’m writing mid video, I didn’t watch the whole thing yet, so I don’t know if the fellas are listening to the radio version or the album version but the guitar solo near the end of this song is straight up fucking FILTHY!
this was always a fun song
❤❤❤

vocals, amazing arrangements, and playing.
It's the best introduction to show what he's all about.

Not technically a one hit wonder cuz they had one other hit. however it's on the same album so.......

I actually thought that this song was about a kind of car [a Sharona definitely sounds like a vehicle!].
...Yes, later, I got the album and read or understood the lyrics and ...changed my mind 😛
...but still. (C'mon!!
People in California, EASILY, love their cars more than their significant others! - or: at least as MUCH! 😛!)
No different than Winger's hit song, She's only Seventeen. Great tune, but a creepy.
The Knack is NOT a one-hit wonder. Check out Good Girls Don't, which was a very big hit. At least it was in Canada.
This wasn’t a 1 hit wonder. Other big hit from them (The Knack) was “Good Girls Don’t” from this same album “Get The Knack”.
Well she was just 17, you know what I mean...
The guitar solo is KEY to this song. Sadly left out of this version.
And when you react to moxie sail on sail away get ready to pause it so you can put it on your playlist
