I was born and raised Catholic, but I had a real conversion at the age of 40 when I learned that the Catholic Church is the Church founded by Jesus. Since that realisation, I have been hungry for Jesus. I read the Bible every day, pray the Rosary and binge-watch conversion stories every night with Journey Home with Mark Grodi. I can now give up worldly desires for Jesus. This year, I was healed from sciatica through the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. God is sooo good all the time despite the long period of walking away and not attending Mass for almost two decades. This month, I am changing my lifestyle to give more time to God. I love my Catholic faith. Thank you Jesus for your love and for the Church.

I’m a cradle Catholic, but I had never heard anyone mentioned a personal relationship with Jesus until after I turned 64. I first heard of this idea during a bible studying session, when one non-Catholic Christian said: “It doesn’t matter what church you belong to; your personal relationship with Jesus is all that is important.” I didn’t agree for I was taught that there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church, but not knowing what to say, I remained silent. I thought: Wow! What’s a good way to keep people away from church. I quickly forgot about this idea, but a few weeks later, I heard the same expression, this time from a practicing Catholic. Again, I didn’t agree nor did I know what to say; I brushed off the idea as no more than an attempt to be politically correct. I didn’t think about this idea afterward, but then, it hit me one day when a priest told the same group, myself included, that until recently, he didn’t know that our relationship with Jesus is so important. Well! I was perplexed, but at least he didn’t say, it doesn’t matter what church you belong to, I thought. I pondered upon what he said, and decided to check it out. And, behold, here’s what I found, Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs 299, 796, 1309: (299) Because God creates through wisdom, his creation is ordered: "You have arranged all things by measure and number and weight."151 The universe, created in and by the eternal Word, the "image of the invisible God", is destined for and addressed to man, himself created in the "image of God" and called to a personal relationship with God.152 (796) The unity of Christ and the Church, head and members of one Body, also implies the distinction of the two within a personal relationship. (1039) In the presence of Christ, who is Truth itself, the truth of each man's relationship with God will be laid bare.624 (See CCC for full text and foot notes 151, 152,and 624) Wow! I had no idea that calling to a personal relationship with God is the teaching of the Catholic Church. But here it is. Written down in black and white. So I accept, I believe, and I submit myself to the teaching of the Catholic Church. Now, knowing that a personal relationship with Jesus is important, I asked myself, “What is my personal relationship with Jesus? Is it a hi-and-bye relationship, or is it a close one? ” I know my personal relationship with Jesus is better than just hi-and-bye, but I can’t quantify it. I wondered if spending one hour weekly with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration, or celebrating His life, death, and resurrection in the Holy Mass indicative of a close relationship. I don’t know what I ought to do to foster a personal relationship with Jesus, but I do know what Jesus wants me to do to have the closest, the most intimate personal relationship with Him. He wants me to eat His flesh and drink His blood so that I can remain in Him and He in me. He said: Jn 6: 56, “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.” Can any relationship be more personal, more intimate, or closer than to be in each other? So to the friends who told me about a personal relationship with Jesus, I thank you. I apologize for considering your good words as a way to keep people away from church, and as an attempt to be politically correct. I now believe that a personal relationship with Jesus is all that is important, but, my friends, if you want to have a close personal relationship with Jesus, close enough to remain in Him and He in you; it does matter what church you belong to.
Always a pleasure to listen to Bishop Barron. Such wise words regarding our friendship with Chris. Is there any better friend in the world than Christ. No, there isn't. He is the best, most loyal friend I know, and guess what, he doesn't gossip!!!!
I think I'll never be able to thank Bishop Barron enough for sharing enlightened content for us Catholics eager to learn more about our faith. I've had the impression that the matter of a "relationship with Jesus" was more talked about in the Protestant realm; some of them even believe that Catholics are not familiar with that, which is clearly a misconception. So seeing a bishop talking about a relationship with the Lord in such a clear and profound way is for sure refreshing!
Love this. Some year ago, i met Him - after 35 years of professed Christianity. But, in coming to know Him, to walk in His Presence... Oh my! That is a completely different and wonderful thing!
I found the Euchsrist to be a beautiful and wonderful way to have an intimate relationship with Jesus. Very powerful. I look forward to the Eucharist even daily. What peace, love, comfort, is the Holy Eucharist is. Amen...
Thank you Your Excellency for being a light to us. May our Lord Jesus love you and keep you and may our blessed Mother be after you as a mother would go after her child to have you grow ever more in your love for her son and her God, our Lord Jesus Christ through whom we have known God our Father's love and care.
Thank you for this, Bishop. Glory to you, Father, and to you, Jesus, and to you, Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever, amen.
Praise be to God. I had read about how “thee/thy/thou/thine” were actually informal in Early Modern English just as “tu” is informal in Spanish vs “usted”, and I wondered why it was translated that way in the older English bible translations. As soon as Bishop Barron mentioned it here it clicked for me and deepened my understanding of our relationship with Christ. Glad I watched this
I enjoyed this very much. As a Catholic it never occurred to me that Jesus was a Friend or somebody that I could converse with; I had to leave the Church--the Catholic Church--to find Jesus, but I'm glad to see a Catholic theologian saying what I have come to believe as a "non-Catholic." It's so true that you can't give what you haven't got. There should be no distinction --I'm sure there isn't in God's eyes--between Catholics and non-Catholics who share the real Jesus, the one who treats us not as servants but as friends.
@Collins Anosike Ha! The real Jesus is not hiding inside some institution. The closer we get to the institution, the farther we get from Jesus. He died to free us from institutionalized faith. He is the Word of God. He resides in the human heart. He speaks to whomever will listen. They strung Him up because He refused to kowtow to the religious authorities and their dead doctrines. "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (John 10: 10) But thanks for the offer.
There is such depth of meaning in the words of Bishop Barron. One can reflect and meditate on what he is saying ; the practice of the presence of God. With Mary it's so safe.
That's how I felt about my life in spiritual direction. The priest was just a person helping me become closer to the person who matters, and that's Jesus. Although I deeply love the priests that directed me, it's a spirit of heartfelt Thanksgiving toward Jesus that truly is what the spiritual director looks for. Thank you, dear Bishop Barron.
Thank you, Bishop Barron. I’ve always wondered and struggled before, especially with my personal relationship with Jesus, but your videos has helped me grow in faith. Please pray for me. God bless you.
Well said father. Too many people, including myself, aren't trying to make that spiritual connection to be more intimate with Christ. Reminds me of Enoch who walked with God. Good video today.
@@notquiteatory971 Even I, as a Catholic, have frustratedly been struggling with this recently. Wouldn't it simplify things so much if God/Jesus just showed himself and made his existence and Divinity obvious to all? Wouldn't that destroy the problem of unbelief?...I don't know the full answer to the question, but we can be consoled by the knowledge that we are always welcome to take the initiative to seek God in daily prayer and frequent scripture reading, and the failure to do so can blind us to him, and habitual sin can do the same. The Rosary is said to be especially effective in diminishing vice and increasing holiness, therefore bringing us closer to God, so I have recently started to pray it daily. I hope I'll eventually have a satisfactory answer to this dilemma, in this life or the next. Despite our doubts, challenges, frustrations and dilemmas, it's up to us to persistently seek God. Eventually, it will become clear and acceptable to us why He doesn't show Himself in the ways we think would make the most sense.
@@fishofgold6553 if God were to show himself in his full glory to us on earth we would have no choice but to believe in him, it would take away our free will
Unity through Humility ~ Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind [humility] let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Philippians 2:1-4
God...I think this really did it. To me it even explains the differences in the old and new testament, god was a child, grew up, was a carpenter, and experienced all the pains and sufferings of life to the most extreme point. I have been turning to religion recently and was kind of stuck looking at many...but ya, that is a very big difference and I do hope to have a personal relationship with jesus.
Thank you Bishop Barron for dictating such an interesting and beautiful topic such as this. I have found new ways of explaining to others why it is so important to be able have that personal relationship with Jesus, because like you say - that is Christianity. Which I think in my opinion also includes the Eucharist. A relationship with Jesus without having the Eucharist present is meaningless. Christianity, the Eucharist and Jesus are deeply and linked and interconnected with each other, that take one away you have this emptiness. Faith without the sacraments, and especially the Eucharist is incomplete. Which is why I love Catholicism so much.
I am so glad you talked about this. I have felt that we as Catholics have sometimes been discouraged from the "personal" relationship with the Trinity for the communal relationship with the Trinity. It is comforting to know that the personal relationship that I am developing, and thirst for sees me safe within our Doctrine.

If that interests you, I would recommend reading Consoling the Heart of Jesus. It’s written like a mini retreat with a focus on the writings of St Faustina. Very personal.
Tuyen Pham in my experience, you can take that same principal and expand it to be even more universal; “it doesn’t matter what religion you belong to, all that matters is that you form a close and personal relationship with the Divine in any of its infinite shapes, forms and personas.” Every god of every religion is actually just the same entity warring different masks and taking on different personas. God loves infinite diversity which is why God wanted different people from different cultures to form relationships with him in different ways. At the end of the day, God doesn’t really care what god you pray to or form a relationship with, because its all the same thing.
Love it! It seems though that a lot of Catholics and Christians tend to place God on so high a pedestal that they fear him. But we constantly see that it's the opposite. Hopefully this will ring true with others who see this.
Stitchman3875 fear, however, does not relate to fright in this context ( which is how some interpret it ) but respect. If we love someone, and we love that person, we respect them. Then, it should be the same with God. That's what it means to fear the Lord. To show the respect and devotion He deserves, not because we are afraid, but because we love him.
The point of this was not to kill babies but to free an entire nation from slavery, God had sworn to protect the Israelites, there were plenty of opportunities for the Pharoh to protect his people and each time he chose not to. In fact, each time he was warned before anything happened, he was given a choice to back out, and he wouldn't, each time he would lie about letting Israel go free. You would think that after seeing two or three plagues it would seem that he would back out, but no. It wasn't enough to see his state crumble, so after this last plague the Egyptians wanted the Israelites out, even if Pharoh would have insisted on keeping them, the people would not have wanted them at their homes. However, on top of that, after the last plague, and after they have already left, he backs out yet again and gets his army with the intent to follow them and murder all of them in the dessert, soo.... You can't take things out of context, you need the historical AND cultural context to understand scriptures.
I've always preferred using words like thou thy thee thine I feel it rolls off my mind and soul more easily and allows me to meditate on the conversation Singing in a choir I am well aware of the new supposed inclusive language using you and your loses something O Lord my God when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
Agree, always walked with Jesus in my life and art. I don't divide faith into doctrines off difference, in Catholicism and Prostantism., The former holds incredible transformations via Art and God. The other allowed us as you spoke to nurture a inter personal relationship with Christ. I feel it in my work, as an artist, or poet, when I walk in nature, or see a little child. These are his incredible gifts we need to savor and protect. Yet, sometime the Church, such is the world, gets sidetracked. Human nature, and so we look to the Stewards off the Gospel to stear the ship through the storms. Like Christ out to sea with the disciples, who fell asleep and awoke to a storm. But, this too like all other shall pass. God Bless.🇩🇰🇺🇸💜
thank you, your grace. In my language, one of the semitic languages, the Bible says "Enoch walked with God." it also says, the same thing for all the kings of Israel who did not worship other gods. May his amazing grace work in us so that we may not walk alone, astray. But, with Him. Amen. Thank you.
Perhaps my circumstances that allowed me to meet Jesus before religion makes this topic of great interest to me. As a 4-year-old, I was sexually assaulted, and of course my discovery was that there is no other human being that will be able to protect you in the world. This is where I heard His voice and my hand in his. I knew His voice (like any member of His flock recognizes His voice) and the promise was given to me that if I hold onto His hand, I would never be at the mercy of another ever again. I think it is unfortunate that we all can't remember meeting Him before we could even speak (I did not speak until I was 5 years old). All of our lives would be so different. For me, there is nothing about Jesus that isn't personal. It took me time to realize that the Shepherd is not only my intimate friend, but was Creator of the Universe and all that entails. My relationship with Jesus is a case of "I knew Him when". Love your videos Bishop Barron. God bless you in your work.
Very interesting point on catholic prayers employing the old intimate form of "you". In French, prayers use the informal "you" as well, and as a native French speaker, I always thought the English versions sounded more distant and implied a different relationship with God...turns out my understanding of the language was just the wrong way around! 😄 A very enlightening and important clarification! Thank you! 🙏
"Thee" and "thou" always sounded rather formal to me. Thank you for clearing that up Bishop Barron. I especially liked and was touched by the last bit of this video. Time to draw close and walk with the Lord once again.
We have to be able to get past our cultural mindset to experience God and see the wisdom in different schools of thought. It's spiritually immature to try to condense everyone's beliefs into one framework. This will always cause division and immobility. My heart will always gravitate towards mysticism rather than watered down religious lectures.
Thats just so true and real mysticism and true love of God, what felt the greatest Saints.. in Catholic Church, like Therese, for example ( im french ) .. and you should talk to the ("pope "') francis, that dared to say its ' HARMFUL to have a personal relationship with Jesus "..
Looking at all these comments as Catholic Christians and Protestant Christians etc. Fight each other over benign "who's dogmas Better" is horrible. We ARE all brothers and sisters in this spiritual war. Why do we fight each other when we should be helping those who do not know Christ, who have fallen and need help to be picked up. If all of us spent as much time converting and spreading the gospel (to which all of use believe in the same New Testament only our interpretations differ) this world would be a peace. Satan has tricked all of us into fighting our over petulant arguments when the battle is out there in the world! Evangelize do not demonize when we have the same blessed trinity, the same blessed lord Jesus Christ. Amen peace be with all of you my brothers and sisters of god.
A fundamental principle of the Abrahamic religion is the fallen nature of man and as a consequence creation as well. The view that "my belief is perfect and everyone else's is heretical" is the deception of the devil. Props to you because you see through this deception.
tim spangler if you mean what I believe you mean then you are the reason why atheism is on the rise and Christianity is on the decline why would anyone believe in Christ when his own children squabble over his teachings. Even tho his teachings are the same and only our interpretations and traditions differ. God bless my brother and have a good day
It's not about whose is better, it's about Truth. The Catholic Church has always taught that we have the "fullness of truth" and the endeavor to bring our separated brethren back to the original source is a grace.
As a protestant, I commend your bravery for saying this. We can all talk to God directly. It is foolish to think we need a human intercessor. I hope Catholics ask themselves why the papacy would state this lie. The pope is not infallible but self seeking. Why do you follow an establishment that you know to go against the bible? #walkaway #seekHimfirst
But you're proposing a false dichotomy. The Church is not a mere human organization, but rather, as Paul said, Christ's very body. Just as I can't know you fully apart from your face, your voice, your physical presence, so I can't know Christ fully and personally apart from his body, the Church.
Interestingly, the more I digest Bishop Barron's videos, the more I realize just how important world history really is when it comes to understanding and developing spirituality. But in hindsight, that isn't so surprising!
Hay! Bigla akong 'kinilig' (heartstrings moved) nung binigkas ni Bishop, "Glory be to the Father and TO THEE" as if I can see Jesus smile as it was being said. Haha!
I was wondering about that. I had heard that thou and thee used to be used as a more informal pronouns that friends would use with each other so I thought that it had that sort of significance but I hadn't heard anyone else make that connection until now, thank you.
I appreciate how Bishop talks about the "founding fathers" of the US as being deists and not people with a personal relationship with God. Maybe God's distance allowed so most of them to justify or ignore slavery and Indigenous genocide. Maybe that distance has contributed to the curious religious atheism of modern post-protestant USA? Still, thank God for your insight on so -we Catholics need to hear this type of teaching more often.
I always think that Jesus looks at me and sees me as himself. Otherwise why did he die? He doesn't see us as wretched or lost. What possibly could he see us as otherwise? He pitches himself into the tent of our hearts, at baptism and completes us so he could be intimate with us He does something new at every turn if we listen, just like he did with Peter and the cloth that had all the weird things to eat. Something new happened there that had never happened before.
How would you distinguish Catholicism's take on the personal relationship with God with the evangelical use of that same phrase? Because I think that in popular evangelical usage there is an individualism at play here which implies that institutional practises get in the way of this "personal relationship" with God. Would you agree that this is fundamental difference between the classic and ancient Christian communions (Catholics, Orthodox) and with newer forms of Protestantism?
I think Catholics and evangelical Protestants are in agreement on this---we both believe in personal relationships with Jesus. Unfortunately some evangelical Protestants are ignorant of Catholicism and they THINK we do not believe in the personal relationship. Still other evangelicals are fallen-away Catholics who either did not really practice their faith and never had, as a nominal Catholic, a personal relationship with Jesus, so they think no practicing Catholic does. Then there's that third group---the fallen-away Catholics who out-and-out lie about Catholicism. (Apparently lying about Catholicism is not considered a sin in Protestantism.)
Latin certainly distinguishes between the singular and plural you, but it is not like French (or archaic English) where the singular form is more intimate and the plural form is used in formal situations even when referring to only a single person.
I'm not one to embrace the personal relationship with God. I believe the relationship is communal. I am firstly part of the Church via baptism and through the community of the Church I have a partnership relationship with God; He is our God we are His people. "Wherever two or three are gather there I am among you." About the closest one can have a personal relationship with God is the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist, however one prepares us to communally receive the other. The poor families during the Passover as most were, went together to procure a lamb or young kid goat to use its blood and consume its meat. Bottom line is I rather share God with my brothers and sisters before having any part of a personal relationship with God. How great it is to receive a fragment of the Hostia than the whole because I know I have shared Jesus with someone else. I will be judged on a personal level as what I did in view of Jesus' life, passion, death and resurrection but my reward will be communal. Yes we must love God with our whole being but what is that without the conjoined command to love neighbor as self? To me the only person who truly could claim to have a personal relationship with God is His Mother Mary. Not even Enoch of old could make such a great of claim. What is the need for the Church if you can just have a personal relationship with God?
I was born and raised Catholic, but I had a real conversion at the age of 40 when I learned that the Catholic Church is the Church founded by Jesus. (1039) In the presence of Christ, who is Truth itself, the truth of each man's relationship with God will be laid bare.624 (See CCC for full text and foot notes 151, 152,and 624)
Wow!
Thank you, Bishop Robert Barron
Well said my friend! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Bishop Baron for this blessed day of today. During this Advent Season and Christmas season
Always a pleasure to listen to Bishop Barron. Such wise words regarding our friendship with Chris. Is there any better friend in the world than Christ. No, there isn't. He is the best, most loyal friend I know, and guess what, he doesn't gossip!!!!
God Bless Bishop Barron🙏✝✝✝🙏
I think I'll never be able to thank Bishop Barron enough for sharing enlightened content for us Catholics eager to learn more about our faith. I've had the impression that the matter of a "relationship with Jesus" was more talked about in the Protestant realm; some of them even believe that Catholics are not familiar with that, which is clearly a misconception. So seeing a bishop talking about a relationship with the Lord in such a clear and profound way is for sure refreshing!
Just got copy of your bible from a friend and its one of the best gifts I have ever gottten. Thanks so much for writing it. God Bless
Love this. Some year ago, i met Him - after 35 years of professed Christianity. But, in coming to know Him, to walk in His Presence... Oh my! That is a completely different and wonderful thing!
We want to thank you Bishop Barron for this spiritual message. While listening to your message we felt the present of the Lord.
May God bless you, Bishop Barron.
I found the Euchsrist to be a beautiful and wonderful way to have an intimate relationship with Jesus. Very powerful. I look forward to the Eucharist even daily. What peace, love, comfort, is the Holy Eucharist is. Amen...
What a wonderful way to describe a relationship with our Holy Father in the Eucharist.
Thank you,
Inês Ulsh
Thank you Abba father, Papa God that you are so close. I love you. The Intimacy is so real and necessary for true relationship.
Glad I watched this
Because of one like you, I called God and He came because I do Truly have a close personal relationship with God
There should be no distinction
--I'm sure there isn't in God's eyes--between Catholics and non-Catholics who share the real Jesus, the one who treats us not as servants but as friends.
With Mary it's so safe.
one of your best reflections I think. God bless you Bishop Barron.
God's love keeps getting more amazing... Thanks.
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ 🙏 Mother Mary Pray For Us 🙏Abba Father Bless us and we Adore You 🙏
Thank you, Bishop Barron.
I’ve always wondered and struggled before, especially with my personal relationship with Jesus, but your videos has helped me grow in faith.
Please pray for me.
God bless you.
Thank you Bishop Barron for this wonderful message! You have touched so deeply my life.
Praise be Jesus and Mary, forever. Amen.
Well said father. Too many people, including myself, aren't trying to make that spiritual connection to be more intimate with Christ. Reminds me of Enoch who walked with God. Good video today.

How can you have a personal relationship with Jesus/God *WHEN HE DOESN’T EXIST ON THIS EARTH*
@@fishofgold6553 if God were to show himself in his full glory to us on earth we would have no choice but to believe in him, it would take away our free will
Unity through Humility ~
Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind [humility] let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Philippians 2:1-4
God shares His glory with no one, no one includes His mother
Can't we praise His great works for their likeness to God?
Oh how you words bless my soul...may Grace keep and bless you Bishop.
It's clearer only to those who have experienced him!
Thank you deeply
Well... it's because its both. The Jesus that said you can have a personal relationship with god is the one to fear Him as well.
I think our first responsibility to God is to Worship Him.
+Albert Most It was King Herod I think who orded the slaughter of the innocents Also the Pharaoh in Moses' time

I sure do love your videos Bishop
Another wonderful video!👍
I'm sharing this message with my youth group
thank you, your grace. In my language, one of the semitic languages, the Bible says "Enoch walked with God." it also says, the same thing for all the kings of Israel who did not worship other gods. May his amazing grace work in us so that we may not walk alone, astray. But, with Him. Amen. Thank you.
And that is Why God took Enoch and he didn't have a natural death I believe.
Amen Bishop Barron
As always, Bishop, enlightening. Thank you!
Thank you! 🙏
I-Thou relationship to the max.
I hope many Catholic priests listen to this teaching...
Absolutely amazing.
I love how he explain the word
I agree.
Jesus in the Eucharist.....doesn't get more personal than that! :) Archbishop Peter Sartain is my Archbishop!!
BELOVED JESUS CHRIST MY HUGE WISH AT THE HEAVEN!

Thank you for sharing your wisdom
Agreed
tim spangler if you mean what I believe you mean then you are the reason why atheism is on the rise and Christianity is on the decline why would anyone believe in Christ when his own children squabble over his teachings.
And I, the Orthodox, just watch.
I would love to walk with God in the cool of the evening!
When you walk in the cool of the evening he does walk with you
I don't need to know it all, just enough to keep me content 😌
good one Cath o holic
Very insightful.
There is such a huge difference between an I-Thou relationship, and an I-it relationship with God. That is the difference of Christianity.
Interestingly, the more I digest Bishop Barron's videos, the more I realize just how important world history really is when it comes to understanding and developing spirituality. But in hindsight, that isn't so surprising!
WoW! Long live to Jesús Christ!
Hay! Bigla akong 'kinilig' (heartstrings moved) nung binigkas ni Bishop,

Hello Bishop Barron! :D
I was wondering about that. I had heard that thou and thee used to be used as a more informal pronouns that friends would use with each other so I thought that it had that sort of significance but I hadn't heard anyone else make that connection until now, thank you.
Thanks!
I and Thou relationship.
Love your videos! Could you explain a little more the term "Mystically Visible"?
God bless you and your various ministries!
Take up thine Cross padre, as told by Christ.
Bishop Barron you are my thomas aquinas
