Bromo, this is too funny 😂 eric asks you if you know a SUPER obscure but meaningful song that any resonable, modern, young person would NOT know 😂. No, -Eric begins to play the song with, dare I say, style?- 🤣
New Covenant Whole Gospel: Can you honestly answer the first three questions below? Who is now the King of Israel in John 1:49? Is the King of Israel now the Head of the Church, and are we His Body? Why did God allow the Romans to destroy the Old Covenant temple and the Old Covenant city, about 40 years after His Son fulfilled the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 in blood at Calvary? What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below. Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8, 3:16? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36) We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24. 1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. @ChrisWillx, listen, don’t listen to @Ianidas300. I’m not into meditation because it’s for people who want to j/o in public but… Dudes “practices” aren’t going to include, speak out-loud when playing to anyone who isn’t Big G. God is the only entity you could expect to be able to hear your thoughts. I’m not sure even G can hear your thoughts, tho. If you want praying to “work” you probably need to SPEAK your hopes, desires, and gratitude.
I really appreciate the spaces of silence in this interview. It takes a lot of courage to let silence exist in this form of content. It gives the listeners time to contemplate the discussion just as much as the participants.
One of my favorite things about the 2 of you talking together are the long silent pauses. It's a lost art to quietly think before you open your mouth. I really appreciate depth of thoughtfulness.
Modern TV talk shows are all about the "sound bites". They treat everything like a sport talk with people talking over one another. It such a relief to find an interview that does not feel rushed.
Chris, as a person who used to believe that religion was a virus, I can say for certain that when your life depends on it, it doesn't matter how small your faith is. I am an alcoholic, been sober for a couple of years, and it all started when my AA sponsor told me that in order to stay sober, I needed to start praying daily, and that he didn't care if I believed God was listening, just that I prayed. At first it did feel disingenuous, but that discomfort was a tiny price to pay for the possibility of remaining sober. Now it's beyond belief, I know that God is real, He sent His Son Jesus to die for my sins, and His Holy Spirit is what saves me from my alcoholism, one day at a time. Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, and may God bless you on your journey!
Amen! Stay strong and thank you for praising god and his will! He has you and will not let go! No matter what. Even in your darkest days, he is still there.
I grew up Catholic, our family never spoke of God at home or in the car. Jesus name was never spoken other than being in a manger once a year. Later on, I developed a nicotine addiction that had me in a stranglehold for 14 years. I heard a gospel preacher saying that I should pray in Jesus name. For me, that meant praying directly to Jesus. Jesus removed my addiction from me, he made me happy without nicotine. He continued to answer prayers for me in a miraculous way. He drew me to himself by helping me when I couldn’t help myself. One day, I was overwhelmed with the aspect that he was real, and not only real, but generous and good. I realized that I had dishonored him my entire life, and purposed to honor him from that day forward. I can honestly say that my faith in Christ is not even faith anymore. I know him, we have a relationship. I do my best to convince people to seek him with their whole heart through God’s Word. But it’s like Eric said, they are afraid of what they will find and what they will have to give up. I was once a slave of sin and my own autonomy, now I’m a slave of righteousness and addicted to his Word.
@@extratroppo437 The context is two atheists talking about the benefits of religion as a civilizing mythos without understanding that it was the God of the Bible, not random religion, that caused the results they are missing. Sad!
I agree with you when you say “the world doesn’t need religion. It needs Christ.” But what the world needs is fellowship with likeminded people to share Christ with, and to keep us grounded in our faith when it shakes. Recommendation - read the book of Acts. In His eternal love.
I use to say I had no faith, and then I realised that I had faith in lots of things I had no real reason to believe in. Then, I had an experience that taught me that faith is a journey and it starts with a step and it lead to humbleness, reverence and respect for the devine.
"Weakness of the mind;" that is so apt. As if your mind, yours individually, must be strong and perfect and right, always. The men in the video (atheists) are questioning the value of all that came before. Is their humility not a strength? Be honest.
From a Catholic man, fallen from the church and certain that God had deserted me when I held my daughter as she took her last breath, this gives me hope.
Wow, I can't imagine your suffering. I watch my boys grow in faith (and science, and all of it), and I know the world sucks, and it eats us alive, and it worries me. I also know that the Creator intended a much better way. A walk together in the garden in the cool of the day.
At about 3:20 in the afternoon of Friday the 22nd of October in 2010, I was standing in the road beside a burning car that contained my wife and son. It was only my faith in God and an afterlife that kept me together, in that moment and the weeks after.
My oldest son had a heart/lung transplant when he was 17. He lived almost 5 years. When he died, I cried out to God and said, "I have buried my son! I HAVE BURIED MY SON!" I couldn't wrap my mind around it. The Lord spoke to me so gently and said, " I know. I buried Mine too." I thought about that for a few minutes, and then I said (because I needed the God of the universe to know just how much I was suffering!) "But You got Yours back three days later....." And again, with the greatest of compassion, He spoke to my heart and said, "Yes. And that's why I got yours immediately." I had been a Christian for many years at that point, but that was the moment the Gospel jumped to life for me. He died, so Jordan didn't have too. He simply went from life on earth to life in heaven. It's been 20 years and I still miss him every single day. But I know I will see him again and that he will be the one who greets me when it's my turn to cross over.
It is the first time for me listening to an atheist who is not dismissive or plain disrespectful of religious people. It was a refreshing interview that I enjoyed not so much for the arguments brought forward, but rather the thought provoking exchange.
Penn Jillet the magician is also an atheist that is not hostile to people talking religion to him. Not only respects you, but expects you to do so if you say you are a Christian.
I began praying every morning about 2 years ago. I'm noticeably better for it. I've been Christian my whole life, but making prayer a habit is a whole other level. It's a beautiful thing.
Amen to that! It's a discipline I struggle with, but each time I fall away I see that life is less sweet, and so I come back and find that He has been there all the time, letting me do my own thing, but meeting me with such kindness and wisdom when I finally come back.
I really love these conversations between Chris and Eric. Notice if you feel uncomfortable when there's a long silence in the conversation. They are truly listening to one another deeply, much is communicated in those silences. Well done, Chris, and congratulations on the growth of your channel. You deserve it.
To say that as a man growing up in America, that you have never had a religious experience or have been "moved by the spirit" is amazing. I can remember growing up the stores used to be closed on Sundays.
@@davidtimmerman3121 being delusional is not the point. For 2000 years we have been living this way, changed the calendar to show it. America was formed by it, and it's gone in 1 or 2 generations is the point.
Eric is one of my favorite human beings to listen to. I was raised Christian and accepted Christ. I grew up and went to college. I became an Electrical Engineer. I had my doubts though I never completely lost my faith. I had a professor tell me that if you want to be religious you have to leave that out of science. I thought he was making fun of religious people until he told us he was Christian and went to church every Sunday. I understand what he means now and I think he was saying the flip side of what Eric was saying. I’m older and hopefully wiser now and I’ve never been stronger in my faith. I think even an atheist living out the teachings of Christ could find peace and happiness even if they didn’t truly believe. I would bet they would find faith sooner than later but that’s just my opinion.
"if you want to be religious you have to leave that out of science" It all depends how you see the whole of reality. it also depends on how see each domain. Carpentry is a domain, yet I wouldn't go "heavy" with religion while engage with it. Ponder the significance of: The earth is the Lord's and the *fullness* thereof of. "Fullness" means more than material.
I've never thought there was any conflict between science and religion. There is, of course, between false religion and science, or religion and false or misunderstood science, or the caricature of religion that so many make of it. I don't think God created things through some kind of woo woo magic, but by understanding the laws of physics, having mastered them completely as if He had created them Himself. Or perhaps He created the laws of not only this Universe, but others. For anything to exist, there must be some stable principles upon which it exists. I see God, angels, etc. as the most advanced civilization in existence, having mastered the laws & principles of matter, time and energy to the ultimate degree, or a degree that we can't yet imagine. If we are ever able to continually progress in our knowledge of science without destroying ourselves, we would eventually get to a point where no more progress was possible without mastering perfect morality and human relationships. And once we master those, we can progress on, to higher dimensional realities, the secrets of time, and traveling infinite distances in an instant. If there is anything that holds science back, it's the assumptions that [1] physical matter at our vibration level is the only thing "real", and [2] that future knowledge & discoveries must be consistent with what we "know" now.
Practising "Love Thy Neighbour" or the Buddha's "8 fold path" or the Sanatan "Vasudeva Kutumbakam" will make joy arise in one' s life. Seekers are inevitably going to discover contentment.....that is the highest point of evolution?? But then again... maybe not😅
when I was weak in my faith, Mark 9:24 resonated with me " .....Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" January 2017 everything changed, when it all came together that it is ALL real and true. The more I researched (including Greek, Hebrew and early church fathers ) the more solid and unshakeable my faith has become.
As a believer when I look around at this vast universe, the changing of the seasons, the human body and how it functions it’s more reason for me to believe that God exist than not. If I loose a finger modern science cannot replace that finger or any body parts like the one God gave me. “ THOSE WHO SEEK ME SHALL FIND ME” Jeremiah 29:13
About religion. Wow Eric. Powerful insight. I just finished my first original recording/mix, my first attempt at Christian lyrics. I was stunned when I heard your statements about ‘prayer’, because my lyrics put it out there- all about the humility of having a conversation with God, and to do that, a person must shed arrogance, ego, and the illusion of strength. Psychologically, we get down on our knees…
This is really refreshing. I am a Christian but was agnostic for most of my life. People don't realize the ramifications of having an entire society void of faith
People do know what it’s like to watch someone massively overgeneralize. They also know what it’s like to watch an entire society be led astray by their beliefs.
Have fair rules. We have surveillance cameras and forensics now. Just tell people they actually can and will be punished by other people if they go against the rules. No omnipresent being or afterlife made up is necessary now. Plenty of other societies had religion, too. Societies you wouldn't want to live in. It's made up as people go along, and goes off the rails terribly once in a while. And remember what has happened when Abrahamic religions actually had direct power in Europe and elsewhere...like heretic burnings because 'they don't kneel at church, and we do' types of differences between groups.
I definitely see more people realising some of the less obvious things that were got rid of when people decided they could do without faith - community, inter-generational contact, service, fellowship, shared worship, communal prayer, neighbourliness - we all do these things in part but without a compelling and uniting story and shared experience it become something a minority engages in when they feel like it, and it starts to get too much for the few to carry... Not many yet connect the issues in society with their own decisions - I think most are still living off the inheritance of their faithful forebears without realising that inheritance is dwindling fast. Just because everyone did a really poor job of following the teachings of Jesus for 2000 years, doesn't mean that a world where people have stopped trying looks any better...
I am a Christian, Jesus walked, taught, was crucified as the true Passover Lamb, a sacrifice for the sins of those who put faith in Him, them raised Himself on the third day to prove He was who He claimed to be, God incarnate. I loved this conversation. Though I mourn for those who struggle to find faith, God is at work and it's fascinating to watch. Great conversation.
@@travisanderson3801 life is always stranger and more interesting than fiction, my friend. You may understand it intellectually first, and before you know it (me being a former determinist atheist and then a sort of agnostic Christian apologist, to now full Christian) it would surprise you the power of humble prayer and taking that a leap of faith for lack of better term. You are revealed things even even you seek theology that satiates your intellectual desire before receiving invitations to go further. Take the chance. If you have intellectual hurdles, like I did, seek those with answers. Bishop Robert Barron was pretty instrumental for me and has a lovely youtube channel. Very intelligent man that helps elucidate Christian theology and cuts through the obnoxious strawmanning you usually find with skeptics. I being one of them formerly as well.
@@travisanderson3801It is a wild story. The truth is hard to accept. Jesus was persecuted by the most ‘holy’ men (Pharisees) at the time. The Jews wanted him crucified because he pointed out their hypocrisy, but he was the real deal. Humble, wise, and helped the poor and truly disabled.
Great choice of a word. Mesmerizing. Attributed to Franz Mesmer. Later used to describe hypnosis. The world has been hypnotized by so-called Religion, and now it's as lost as it was on the first day. Fumbling in the dark AND claiming 'we know' what we're doing. No, we don't.
Eric is like my dad, he can pick the guitar, sing all the words to the best of the 1950's and 60s , even the 70s rock and blues and country... man, what a gift to the world Eric is with his talents, but furthermore the ability to steadily and concisely deliver unbiased and diplomatic answers to Chris' questions, but also leave room for the listener to think and absorb without hurried projected delivery of opinion. Eric provides a manner of cool, calm and collected behavior that enriches my ever growing quiver of knowledge arrows... one of my very favorite people to learn from ! Thank you Chris ! This was another excellent podcast ! we need to get you into the world of the 1960s and 70s rock and roll!! :)
“Religion is interested in you whether or not you give a shit. It knows who you are and finds its way into every aspect of your life. And if you’re going to be an honest atheist, you have to admit that.” Having been an atheist for many years and then a born again Christian, this is a very powerful statement for me to hear. I have no interest in being preachy or trying to covert anyone. But having been on both sides, it definitely resonates with me.
Songs and art referencing old books with mostly made up stuff isn't a great argument to just be religious. The very religious following those books would completely reject the even older stories and traditions some of those old stories have been recycled from. Egyptian, Sumerian, Babylonian, etc. etc. ideas of god(s), afterlife, etc...the Abrahamic religious folks would quickly dismiss and openly mock as 'myths'...and their (sometimes similar) Abrahamic stories as real truth... it's all the same category of made up stuff by people thousands of years ago to a rational person. Trace it back enough, and you're at some Neanderthal or other person from 30k years ago or more suggested the sun is alive and has emotions...and it went forward from there.
When I finally read the bible with an intention to learn, rather than confirm what I thought I already knew, I was astounded at what I found there. I do indeed find myself known in ways and parts I myself had been ignorant of. And as I have listened and learned, I've changed, and my relationships with those around me have changed, and so has my relationship with this beautiful world of ours. Still feel like I'm just beginning. There is such Joy to be had in a walk with God - I'm so glad I chose that path when he graciously laid 2 happy successful paths in front of me - one with Him, one without. No coercion, just a simple question - "Do you want to do this with me or by yourself?" The way with Him glittered ahead with the promise of so many moments of joyful encounter and discovery - as if the sun was catching diamonds scattered on the ground. I've never regretted that choice. God himself is the reward - a Joy that cannot be matched.
It certainly is interested in you. You join or bad things happen. You stay in line or bad things happen... that's been the norm for thousands of years...and is now still in dozens of countries. When states finally took away their ability to physically punish in the west, they still would ostracize people from communities, publicly shame people who didn't donate enough, demand tax payers support their structures and festivals, etc. They are VERY interested in anyone they can do something to or take something from.
There’s a difference between secular prayer and religious prayer. Prayer is scientifically proven to have beneficial effects on mental health, with or without a belief in God.
I grew up before Vatican II, I was also a Nerd-child who studied Latin. So I've always understood the Latin Mass and find it a very special way to connect with the Divine - but not the only way. I still sing in Gregorian Chant choirs
Note that Vatican II as such did not eliminate Latin from the Mass. There's nothing stopping a priest from saying the Mass in Latin (albeit, according to the new order) except that many people (Boomers in particular) would complain.
From the time I could talk , I prayed to Jesus bc I was afraid of the dark , I talked to Him though I’ve never seen him and His Spirit is always with me. I think it’s cool that he was a Jewish man living in Israel . I visited Israel to see where he lived and I felt Him there everywhere I went.
Philippians 2:5-11 [5]In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: [6]Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; [7]rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. [8]And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death- even death on a cross! [9]Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, [10]that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, [11]and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
I heard Eric say, “ I think Vatican two was a mistake…”. Immediately it struck me between the eyes. He was right in many respects. A celebration that had brought people into unity all around the world in one language and there’s mystery in the chants that although not completely understood, was a powerful prayer in itself.
It is the vibration and rhythm of the words that actually make my cells quiver and heart flutter in response, in Latin or especially The Hawaiian language. It feels like God moving through me. Great discussion.
“When Jesus had entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, ‘Who is this?’ The crowds replied, ‘This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.’” Matthew 21:10-11 “They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.” NIV Matthew 21:46 Jesus said “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown.” Luke 4:24 The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. Acts 3:13 “One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.” Luke 6:12 “And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, ‘My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.’” Matthew 26:39 “They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I pray.’” Mark 14:32 Jesus was speaking in Aramaic and was a Muslim (a person that totally submitted to Allah) and he prayed to Allah. Go to any Aramaic Online Dictionary and type the word “God”. You will be shocked to see it’s “Allah”. Jesus NEVER said anywhere in the Bible “I am God” or “Worship me.
Proof of God : In Quran Ayats rarely ends with letter "H" but in Surah al Shams (Sun), all the ayats (verses) ends with letter "H". And Sun is made of Hydrogen(H) and Helium(He).
@15:36 - "Religion is interested in you whether or not you give a sh*t. It knows about you and it finds its way into every aspect of your life and if you're going to be an honest atheist you have to admit that." That's not "religion" - that's God. Every person, within our immaterial selves, has a spot reserved for God. We choose whether or not God fills that spot.
Amen. I actually appreciate this conversation. People have to start somewhere, and a lot of this seems to be fumbling in the dark - absolutely not meant as a criticism, as that’s precisely what most of us are doing. But the word “God” is what’s missing here. The cultural and religious talking points are all very well, but without the personal relationship with God, none of it means anything.
Actually, it is “religion”, too, in the sense that western civilization was overwhelmingly brought to us by the Catholic Church, whether or not people like to admit that. In fact, the Church even preserved a huuuuuhe amount of stuff from classical antiquity and incorporated Aristotelian logic into theology and doctrine. Scientific inquiry burgeoned after the birth of Christianity because of the Christian belief that learning the truth about God’s creation was good (and that truth was never a threat). Our music and art, our universities, hospitals, militaries, legal systems, the elimination of chattel slavery and recognition of basic human rights of the poorest people, etc., etc, you name it, it came from the Catholic Church. And then things started getting crazy and complicated in the 1500s, etc. So my point is that whether or not one realizes it or is a believer in Christ, one is hugely affected by the affects of the Catholic religion and her assumptions and teachings over time.
I'm a vocalist, and this makes me realize that I need to study the lyrics of what I sing way more! I'm not nearly as smart as this man, but I would love to have a conversation with him.
I couldn’t either. When I look through the lens of Jesus’s teachings and the life he lived it provokes me to sorta have this conversation with myself. Am I here to live for myself or live for others. Obviously that doesn’t mean abandon your responsibilities and not desire good things in life. However it’s you realizing you are not here for just your own pleasures and self absorbed life. Does he want you to enjoy life? Well of course. But how are we making it a better place for others and not just our own little bubble. Actually when we do that, we inherently teach our kids that no one else matters, but our family and if everyone else in the world acted that way it’s pretty selfish and could very well feed narcissism. I don’t think we can create our own definition of how to live life which is why I believe Jesus role modeled the best way. Which is die to live.
10:25 It's the Catholic Latin Mass, and it's growing in popularity with young people all over the world. (It's not a separate denomination: it's Catholicism using a form of the Sunday Mass that was universal until the early '60s.)
My Mom was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school up till 9th grade. Until recently i had never thought about the fact that with her age she probably saw the change. Mass was in Latin until she was something like 10 years old.
I attend an FSSP parish. We have 3 packed Sunday Masses every week as well as daily mass and confession with Exposition and Adoration every week. Our priests are young, as are the parishioners. Women are veiled and modest in dress. Large families are the norm. We are the future of the Catholic Church.
I’m one of those old people. You don’t need to “know” Latin to “get” the Latin Mass. There are books and there’s even an app (Laudate) that has the Latin/English on the same page so you can follow along. As a child, the Latin was taken away, churches were basically sacked, music dumbed down, etc. I attend a diocesan Traditional Latin Mass in east Tennessee.
I just discovered Eric a few days ago and he resonates on every level: science, society, and now second tier spirituality and music! He has a passionate confidence and tranquility like I’ve never seen.
Im a Buddhist but I do believe we still have common ground? We are both believing in Love and Compassion and about bringing Spiritual awareness to this world! God Bless you!
if you're christian can you remind god he can't just go around killing people and burning them alive for eternity just because they disagree with him, we have rights. and while you're at it, cold fusion, if god isn't going to do anything about putin (heart attack or something that looks natural), if he's not going to stop the war, (when did he ever stop a war) then the least he can do is hint as to how to get cold fusion working - has he seen my electricity bills since the ukraine debacle started, there's a love eh. don't be pushy though, god has a short fuse.
@GeraldBrofloski You do need it to know that the there is evil in this world that is real and is set on destroying everything good that man creates and the Church is standing against that evil. You do need the Church as an institution that can give you the stamp of baptism which in turn gives you not only everlasting life (through the belief in Jesus Christ), but a guiding spirit that allows you to be aware and stand against the present evil, among other things.
WELL PUFFY? THAN BE AFRAID TO GET, THE HELP FROM AS YOU WOULD SAY, FROM LIFE TOO! BECAUSE ALL THINGS DO HAPPEN, FOR ALL THINGS HAVE A REASIN WHY IT HAPPENS AS THEY DO!
Probably have about 150 hours of Eric in my brain. He is one of the most brilliant folks i can think of. His brother is also very intriguing person. His insights, combined with wisdom is sometimes overwhelming. 'Tell me more' Eric, tell me more about everything please. 🙏
You’re always a gentleman and super patient with guests as they find their way in and out of explaining thoughts and feelings about all the topics… great show!
If that is true, it is proof positive that he wasn't quite right in his head. Nobody ever received enough evidence to know. Being 100% convinced of something is not "knowing".

Psalm 14:1 states clearly: The fool has said in his heart, "there is no God." Can you reason with a fool? We all struggle in this earthly journey, but it's good to hear an honest conversation with people sharing their struggles with faith and God and trying to understand it all. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. I leave you with this verse of scripture: "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Hebrews 11:6. He rewards those who EARNESTLY SEEK HIM.
We are grateful for our Jewish roots. God has truly blessed them with amazing brains, talents, and they are the Apple of his eye. Jesus, He is a person who loves his children.
First of all, that is not absolutely true. Not everyone who earnestly seeks God is rewarded. As such religion fails to provide reliable guidance and cosmological stability, leaving merely a cute story and a psychological hack.
Do you not think it is possible for someone to have earnestly sought after God and found nothing there? I promise you, they exist. It's very easy to dismiss people you don't agree with by calling them fools; it's much harder to try to understand other people with different life experiences. People observe those life experiences and make different conclusions than each other all the time. Thought-terminating cliches like "they are just fools" rob you of the ability to understand your fellow humans and widen your perspective. I'm happy you found a faith that is fulfilling for you. I'm also happy that others find fulfillment elsewhere. Be well.
@@Allabertina That is indeed another excellent way to pray. But don’t knock the rosary. The rosary, properly prayed, is anything but a case of “vain repetitions”. For example, when I pray the rosary I do a combination of different things. I concentrate closely on the actual words/meaning of what I’m saying. I also say different kinds of prayers (ex: of thanks, or repentance, or a prayer of petition for myself or for someone else). And I also spend part of the time contemplating the various mysteries of Christianity, and I consider them through the eyes of Mary. I do this because Mary, on behalf of humankind, has always accepted God’s will in perfect obedience and cooperation with Him. I could go on, and I would, but I have to go. But honestly, I would recommend the rosary even if you’re not Catholic; it is a very powerful meditative prayer. (And if the Hail, Holy Queen prayer bugs you, read about Blessed Herbert, the author. That completely changed how I felt about it.) May the Lord richly bless you and yours.
I am compelled to listen to these interviews with Eric, simply because what he says so eloquently helps me to further process my own thinking and perceptions of many issues I confront in this life. This elaboration on religion was helpful to me, (as my own views are always in development and tend to be confusing to other people who either rigidly adhere to their doctrine or totally reject any mention of religion altogether so I don't tend to express my own views publicly) but they are very close to what Eric was discussing here.
A cynic might say it’s a good time to start a church, temple or some other religious structure(concrete and abstract). We are vulnerable creatures when we are scared. 💸
It's a big mistake to think that we automatically understand someone else's words or explanations. The meaning that person has for the words they use, does not travel with the words to the person they're talking to. When we hear someone's words, we organize them, and extract what they mean to US. In most cases we don't quite hear what the other person is saying unless it's mundane, or cliche'. I don't remember ever being able to match my meaning by finding the right words, for anything beyond the mundane and cliche'. I always have to settle for words that can only give a clunky and vague sense of what I'm trying to say. And you can't communicate an experience the other person never had.
William until we allow ourself to open our heart we are in fear. It requires courage to leave what we know even if that is pain. An Australian expression might help ... have a go. He says “ There is something disingenuous to praying to something that you don’t believe.” But there is also absolutely classic, beautiful, sublime prayer, “I believe Lord. Help my unbelief.” You don’t have to be 100% all in to pray. If you are 1%, go for it!
I'm not religious, but I have to confess, every time I hear a really good version of "How Great Thou Art," it sends chills down my spine. On another note, I'm struck by how often Eric asks Chris if he's familiar with a particular song or artist, and the answer always seems to be no. Poor guy is tragically uninformed about music.

The Church that is in Latin is the pre-Vatican Catholic Chruch. As a little girl being raised as a protestant, I often stood outside the local Catholic Church to listen to the Latin Mass, and it was BEAUTIFUL!!! I didn't understand the words but it was mystical and touched me in ways that are hard to explain. Language is actually very superficial and trite, and it's impossible to get the gist of the mystical or metaphysical in language. This is why we need myth and legends that explain in story what we can't explain in our hearts. To read the Bible verbatum is to only understand it on a very superficial level, which often leaves us cold and wanting. But to study with a great teacher is profoundly eye opening. We have some great teachers today, including Jordan Peterson and Dennis Prager, and after this discussion I think Eric is much deeper than I ever thought he would be. When I've told friends that I prefer opera where I don't understand the words, they look at me as if I'm crazy; I'm not. I like to get the basic outline of an opera plot and then let the music itself tell the story without language getting in the way and making it just another trite love story.

Eric is a deep spirit. True religion is the radical coming to terms with ultimate reality, and reality is inescapable, whether we refuse to orient ourselves towards it or not.
The truly open mind honestly and sincerely considers ideas that don't align with its own views. This is how humans grow and evolve, not only in knowledge but also in philosophy and in character. The alternative is to latch onto an idea, carve it in stone, and place it on a pedestal where, now, the adherent mindlessly chants their favorite hymns and prayers at anything that dares to disagree with that dogma. @@danielcooper3868 I recently began reading the bible. Mostly out of curiosity. I hadn't read it since my childhood, decades ago. It occurred to me the other day that throughout my atheistic adulthood I'd made condescending remarks about religion, like you just did, without actually knowing much about the actual religion(s) I criticized. Particularly without having read the texts that are the basis for said religion. So where did my anti-religion convictions come from? The people around me, of course. I was part of the herd. It's easy to dismiss things when you know little to nothing about them, so why not? Quite a few things brought me back around to Christianity. My experiences living overseas in the third world. Comparative analysis of cultures (those with Christianity vs. those without, ground Tom Holland covered in his book Dominion). Also studies by scientists of NDE's, providing a mountain of evidence consciousness survives death. A good starting point for that subject, by the way, is Tom Shroder's book Old Souls. Excellent read. So anyway, all this forced me to see that the atheistic point of view chiefly boils down to attitude. A fixed attitude will not reconcile itself to reality. Regarding religion, particularly Christianity, someone made a good insight, a podcaster whose name I'm forgetting now (Carrie something, maybe), while on Zuby's podcast a while back. She admitted a trajectory like I'd had. Went to college, got brainwashed, spent years as a progressive zealot, condemned Christianity, etc. For various reasons she managed to come out of it. (As did I, though for different reasons). Anyway, she too saw the hypocrisy and shortsightedness of atheists, all of whom are ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I'm paraphrasing, but her sentiment was that you've got thousands of years of wisdom, poetry, stories, and life lessons collected in one book, and yet these critics think they're better than that, think they don't need it, think there's nothing there to offer. Again, that's easy when you haven't studied the material. Makes you realize their dismissiveness is some very powerful arrogance. Not to mention very powerful closed-mindedness.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
(John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18.

As Eric said, great music made by pausing or emphasis, so goes great conversation.
I think they're deliberately edited in for pacing.
I get it, but there is also a pause button
One of my favorite things about the 2 of you talking together are the long silent pauses. It's a lost art to quietly think before you open your mouth. I really appreciate depth of thoughtfulness.
Very good point

Yeah Eric pauses the host doesn't get nervous it's a comfortable silence and I wish I was comfortable in the silence I'm not but I can learn
Totally, absolutely 100% true! I’m so happy for you, Michael!
Be blessed and covered. Thank you for your testimony. I’ll be free too from addiction in Jesus’ name. Amen 🙏🏾
Amen! Stay strong and thank you for praising god and his will! He has you and will not let go! No matter what. Even in your darkest days, he is still there.
@@BFjordsman
Because for a true alcoholic, it is only through the supernatural that we are sober.
You either understand that, or you don't.
" Religion is interested in you whether you believe in it or not" That is a profound statement and it's a keeper.
No it isn’t.
And stupid and a lie. God is interested in everybody but He only saves those that choose to believe. "Religion" accomplishes nothing.

Well said my friend.
Faith is weakness of the mind.
@@Apistevist Spoken like a true Reddit tier atheist
"Weakness of the mind;" that is so apt. As if your mind, yours individually, must be strong and perfect and right, always. The men in the video (atheists) are questioning the value of all that came before. Is their humility not a strength? Be honest.
How do you define “faith”?
It's heartbreaking when your child dies, but it's much worse if you believe death is the end, and you'll never see her/him again.

I've been meditating for 2 years and I'm better for it.
Amen to that! It's a discipline I struggle with, but each time I fall away I see that life is less sweet, and so I come back and find that He has been there all the time, letting me do my own thing, but meeting me with such kindness and wisdom when I finally come back.

"if you want to be religious you have to leave that out of science"
It all depends how you see the whole of reality. it also depends on how see each domain.
The character of Jesus wasn't the first to preach basic morality and certainly doesn't have a monopoly on it.

My life got better once i become an atheist
People do know what it’s like to watch someone massively overgeneralize. They also know what it’s like to watch an entire society be led astray by their beliefs.
Have fair rules. We have surveillance cameras and forensics now. Just tell people they actually can and will be punished by other people if they go against the rules. No omnipresent being or afterlife made up is necessary now.
Plenty of other societies had religion, too. Societies you wouldn't want to live in. It's made up as people go along, and goes off the rails terribly once in a while.
And remember what has happened when Abrahamic religions actually had direct power in Europe and elsewhere...like heretic burnings because 'they don't kneel at church, and we do' types of differences between groups.
it's possible to have faith without believing in the existence of the supernatural

That's not "religion" - that's God. Every person, within our immaterial selves, has a spot reserved for God. We choose whether or not God fills that spot.

BUT WHAT WHOULD HIS NAME BE IF WE WERNT TAUGHT IT THATS MY QUESTION
Nothing good ever came from region than blood, tears and wars. No thanx. Men made fairytales with false promises.

There are a strong move in that direction here in Brazil too, especialy in the west part of the south region.

“Early religions were like muddy ponds with lots of foliage. Concealed there, the fish of the soul could splash and feed. Eventually, however, religions became aquariums. Then hatcheries. From farm fingerling to frozen fish stick is a short swim.” ― Tom Robbins, Skinny Legs and All
totally agree god gradually revealed his character and worked with the religions which are closest to him.
Be well.
He didn’t say people are fools. Almighty God say they are.

My favorite prayer is saying the Rosary in Latin. The most beautiful prayers I have ever felt and experienced. ❤
Or you can be silent and allow the Spirit to lead you into praying what needs to be prayed.

An Australian expression might help ... have a go. What do you have to lose? The unexpectedness of love fills one completely and is worth 'having a go', otherwise regret will settle in your soul. All is grist to the mill.
Chris is a wonderful example of a person who is willing to listen, who is open to learning about people and their perspectives, who exercises a genuine curiosity in what matters to others. I applaud Chris and his excellent long form interviews. I think social media benefits immensely from this sterling example of dispassionate and respectful discourse.

I never get to hear it but i thank you god as arranged by Gwyneth Walker is a moving choral piece with piano. You have to hear it live to really feel it.
I like to get the basic outline of an opera plot and then let the music itself tell the story without language getting in the way and making it just another trite love story.

falls short when he invokes Hendrix. Surely he knows that Dylan is the author of AATW, and Dylan's lyrics are rife with spiritual meaning, making Eric's point not so revelatory.
@@TheGalxz and that bob certainly didn’t believe in anything other than writing great songs, let alone Christianity.
I think the point is that Christianity works its way into our art, and we don’t even notice. That’s my take anyways.
This is a side of Eric Weinstein that I’ve never seen before, but am so grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to!
Eric is the most bizarre mix of great teacher / meaning maker / story teller and b*tshit crazy. This clip is the former.
Indeed. I think he's one of the greatest propagandists of today.
Batshit crazy is them being blissfully ignorant of the world, and thinking that the things he talks about ''crazy''
No. It’s the latter.
If some people think that being cynical and arrogant makes them appear intelligent, that's ok. People who actually are intelligent have no problem spotting them.
Chris, they just had their last Latin mass at the cathedral in downtown Austin. I’m so sorry you missed it. It’s no longer allowed😢it’s called the Triditen mass
your best clip i have seen to date
Eric is a deep spirit. True religion is the radical coming to terms with ultimate reality, and reality is inescapable, whether we refuse to orient ourselves towards it or not.
What's reality in your book?
the reason the Mass in Latin was so important is that it was the Universal language of the Church. The same in Spain, England, China, Australia. etc.
Eric is exceptionally intelligent and interesting person! I do not agree with all that he says but nevertheless what an extraordinary mind.
Atheist Jew PhD says that Vatican 2 maybe a mistake?
The truly open mind honestly and sincerely considers ideas that don't align with its own views. This is how humans grow and evolve, not only in knowledge but also in philosophy and in character. The alternative is to latch onto an idea, carve it in stone, and place it on a pedestal where, now, the adherent mindlessly chants their favorite hymns and prayers at anything that dares to disagree with that dogma. This is the context in which I appreciate Eric saying to Chris, *"IF* you're going to be an *honest* atheist..." Because to be anything less is to be dishonest, intellectually speaking.
Try typing was Vatican II A mistake into TH-cam and you’ll see thousands of hours of videos about the topic.
And yes it was.
We are in a cultural shift right now where millennials like me are returning to pre Vatican 2 Latin mass and it’s changing our lives. I just can’t understand why the pope is locking us out.
What is so surprising about that? An atheist Jew has every right to express his opinion on any subject he wants to say something about. Evidently Eric is well read enough to have an opinion about a lot of subjects, this being just one of them. Good for him!
@@r.mucklin1703 I think he’s just making the point it’s not typical for anyone outside the church to know about these things much less to care. Atheists in particular.
Chris - Your content is next level and this conversation was truly important. I would encourage you not to cheat yourself by treating Weinstein's questions in this conversation as mere rhetoric.
The last point that Eric made was profound. He is so close to the Truth. It’s not religion that permeates every aspect of your life. It is the Holy Ghost-The Spirit. All he has to do is choose to believe, and the Truth will set him free.
the dramatic pauses from this man
🙄
It's really hard to take.
I keep thinking I lost internet connection.
Those pauses are computational, he actually thinks about what he's saying before he says it.
It's Chris blanking on the topic
Eric is exactly right. Modern people dropped all humility. They assumed layers and layers of arrogance. And they are miserable for it. Tell them to pray, and they refuse. You open the door for them and tell them, happiness is on the other side. They won't budge.
A significant number of moderns believe that 'science' has disproved the relevance of scripture and the existence of god.
This feels like a man in a white van telling kids there’s candy on the inside…
You have to have something make sense. Blind following is seen as stupid in everything but religion. For good reason too
@@danielcooper3868 I recently began reading the bible.
Every progressive and every atheist I speak with shows the same mindset. All conviction and no knowledge.
In any case, you do whatever you think is right, whatever your heart tells you.
Read about the Pharisees and you'll understand why. Modern Christianity is filled with self righteous hypocrites, egos ballooned to infinity.
5:23: "We're afraid to submit to something bigger than ourselves". Ooh.
We're afraid there's nothing bigger than ourselves.
The closer your personal relationship with God is,the more you feel him in your life. He is not found in a building he is found where you are. I truly love my God and He makes my problems his. He takes my burdens when I ask and when I tell him I don’t know what to do . God is my friend and I keep him close in all that I do.
I have musical anhedonia. It's a condition where you don't have any emotional response to music. The cause is the reward-auditory cortex interaction in the brain being screwed up. I can appreciate the complexity of music, I can appreciate the lyrics, but I have no emotional response to the music. Listening to music has never brought me any joy or happiness.
It is difficult for me to relate to everyone else sometimes because music is so important to culture. I recently found out from some friends that people remember music that was played in movies and shows in different scenes. I was stunned because I honestly don't remember any of the music when I'm remembering a scene.
It really bums me out sometimes that I'm missing out on something that clearly brings so many people happiness.
That is fascinating! I have learned something new from you again. I just looked up more details about the condition. This led me to try to imagine hearing music without feeling it. I guess it would be like watching a movie without a soundtrack. While it is a deficit in one way, it is an asset in another. One is much less able to be propagandised and far more able to see fact from fiction when emotion is removed from music. Without John Williams's musical score, Star Wars really isn't that good.
Thank you for broadening my knowledge even more, friend.
👍🏻👍🏻
Time to try some psychadelics? I suspect they *may* open that up for you? Worthy a try!
@@prycelessly No problem! I guess it's kind of like watching a movie without a soundtrack. I can still hear the soundtrack, it just doesn't affect my emotional experience of the scene. I think it's more like hearing traffic noise instead of music, like it's there but it doesn't affect anything.
I didn't realize music is used in propaganda, that's interesting!
@@MMAneuver That might actually be a good idea! I don't like the idea of doing drugs, but that might be worth a try some day!
@ZyroZoro Music has been used as a tool to propagandise to evoke emotional responses to help sell ideas throughout history in many capacities, from selling people on fighting wars to buying sneakers.
Here's an article if you want to read more about it:

This video is one of my prayers being answered. From a deep, deep hollowed void in my soul this came as an answered.
Was raised a mainstream protestant Christian but took it to a new level as an adult and studied apologetics and theology. I found myself trying everyday to salvage a belief that was fading more as I delved into the studies. Now, I am no longer a believer. Left the faith 20 years ago. I don't consider myself an atheist because for many, that is just another religion. I am a human not an atheist or some other philosophical view.
Congratulations. Early childhood indoctrination is very tough to overcome.
There is a vacuum inside every human heart that only God can fill. Once you truly know the Lord, hear Him speaking to you, see the way He answers specific prayers, and fills your heart with overflowing joy, there is no turning away.
