  • 9 AWESOME Nano Fish SAFE for SHRIMP | Shrimp Safe Aquarium Fish
In this video we look at some fantastic nano fish which are safe for keeping with all species of shrimp in an aquarium. It's important to realise that fish will eat anything they can fit into their mouth and there isn't really a completely shrimp safe fish, except maybe the Otocinclus.
The fish in this video are true nano aquarium fish and have a very slight chance of eating baby shrimp but will not eat adults.

My experience with Endler’s is that they won’t actively seek out and attack the adult shrimp, but if they’re hungry enough and an adult swims by, it seems to trigger their prey drive and they go after them!! Keeping them well fed and distracted, as well as providing plenty of cover like you mentioned go a long way! Great video :)

Thank you, for your very honest opinion in deciding on which species of fish are more likely to be safe when keeping ornamental shrimp. I'm in the first week of cycling and despite having experience with saltwater shrimp, I never realized how much more different the two cousins are in regards for me trying to establish an environment that closely resembles their own.
    Thanks again!

I’ve found that in a shrimp-only tank (just shrimp and snails) the shrimp populate all levels of the water column, even hanging upside down from the duckweed roots, the presence of any fish (predators) makes them far more likely to stay at bottom to mid levels and explore less…
I had a couple baby guppies in my shrimp tank for a while, and the shrimp
All generally hid, once I netted out the guppies and returned them to their original tank, the shrimp were out and exploring again…

barbs are very aggressive. i'd say they are the most aggressive nano fish to your shrimps other than dwarf puffer. tetras are a little bit better but do keep in mind that they also have urge to nip on things other nano fish would deem "too large". remember pirahna is a type of tetra.

Got a school of ember tetras in my crystal red/ crystal black mix tank, with some Pinocchio shrimp as clean up (they eat hair algae, great nano alternative to amano shrimp). The only problem is that I rarely see my embers, they only come out for food, and only if they can’t see any movement outside of the tank. Any clue why they are so skittish? They are in a school of 11 so that shouldn’t be the problem..

I have a betta in a 20 long that coexisted with my shrimp colony for more than a year and then a few months ago he just started going HAAM on adults, starting with the largest (ofc berried females). By the time I realized the colony was collapsing, it was too late.

I keep a school of 10 neon tetras in with my 10 gallon nano bowl. I have Amano, Neocaridina and ghost shrimp that breed readily in there too and it was getting out of hand... I bought a beta and some Kuhli loachs to try and eat some fry and maintain the population, with a grass bottom and heavy vegetation the fry do to well, but i think i have a good balance now. I know there are still lots of fry in there because i suck them up ever week during water changes and have to fish them out.
Also for algae Nerite snails gorge on the stuff, they must be all stomach under their shells because idk where they put it all. get a group of 5 per 10 gallons and they will clean your algae quickly. They only breed in brackish water and they are very pretty with lots of coloration options.

There are other safe species like clown killifish, smaller pseudomugil (gertrudae, paskai), threadfin rainbowfish, small gobys.
