I really like that you give alternative fish instead of just a top ten not recommended list. Seeing your tanks is always informative and educational for me. You do things I never would have thought possible to even try. 👍💕👍
Saw chilli rasboras for the first time and recently started wondering if I could put them in my tank as I think they're amazing. So glad you recommended them first basically! 😂 loving your channel such a good help for beginners like myself. Thanks for doing what you do.
I enjoy that you have tanks you LIVE with and not just in a room somewhere on racks. My tanks are in my living area and are a part of our family and I couldn’t imagine it any other way. I was watching closely to see if you mentioned my favorite (at the moment) nano fish...the clown killi as a “safe” shrimp fish. Considering they only prefer (mine do anyway) live brine shrimp babies, I worry very little about my baby shrimp.
Yes i have a video on 20 nano fish that get along with baby shrimp breeding :) and yes, i have to live with and play around with my tanks...especially co2 and hilights with fertz...it's almost mandatory to trim weekly.
I have a 40 litre betta aquarium which has a flourishing community of cherry shrimp. In fact the only reason I have shrimp in there was cull shrimp from my main tank, but the shrimp have bred and the betta leaves them well alone. I think it comes down to the personality of the betta at the end of the day.
Regarding Amanos being aggressive, I had a few in my planted Betta tank a few years ago. They would steal food right out of the Betta's mouth. It was amazing to watch. That's what I call daring - fearless (maybe crazy?) creatures really.
Thank you very much. Theyre always changing. Id aquascape them all, however , I buy and sell plants, fish and shrimp- so i need to be able to access them
Wow great info. I had to watch twice because I was distracted by the awesome tanks. I have two male endlers in with my shrimp. I'm watching them closely. Thanks again. Love the plants.
Awesome, thank you kindly... if you watch the videos i posted last week, you can enter a 1000 dollar aquaticarts.com give away and also get discount codes exclusive to my channel, and that enter you into more free fish, plants or shrimp giveaways if you ever want to buy nano fish or shrimp online. Also i have about 400 videos in many many subjects, so I hope and assume you can find the answers to a great deal of questions about the hobby, by looking through my older videos. Thanks again for watching and have an amazing Sunday! -sincerely, Alex
Great video! Glad you recommended alternatives. Building a paludarium and got some cherry shrimp in a separate tank, but not enough waste to keep my plants going. Everything I read seemed contradictory. Gonna get some dwarf corydoras and mb a few ruby terras or microrasbora. Thanks for the recs!
I have 5 hatchet fish 5 otocinclus and 7 glass catfish that never touch my shrimp not even the babies. I was certain about the hatchet's and the oto's but the catfish it's kinda amazing seeing a carnivorous fish that big swimming up to a baby shrimp checking it out and just leave.
You have such an expansive knowledge of this subject and a keen intelligence but you deliver your content in such a warm, fun manner. I watch a lot of aqua content and yours in unique in terms of variety and biological expertise. Well done bro.
@@Fishtory it's really great that you have the ability to spend so much time with them, doing what you're obviously so passionate about, and good at. And you sharing that knowledge is so, so appreciated!! ✌️
Haha sorry, those old videos are sooooo bad at that before I could afford a gimbal to make things smoother. I still struggle but the new videos are much better haha. Welcome and make yourself at home! Cheers
Oh reaaaallly? I think someone took over his old website since he retired ( this video is 4 or 5 years old now. My apologies...and thanks for saying something)
Another great video, as usual. I have red cherries in all my tanks and I absolutely confirm that sparkling gouramis go after and kill pregnant shrimps. I believe they are attracted by the movement of the aeration once the eggs reach a certain size. I've seen it happen more than once. Not a pleasant site, but in my case they are just doing what I was expecting, controlling the shrimp population growth, something that was getting quite out of hand. I also believe that the sparklings get much more aggressive when they are in their spawning periods and it shows in their behavior with shrimp. Pretty soon I'll have to think about how I'm gonna control the sparklings population, though... On the other hand, I have never seen the ember tetras following or attacking baby shrimp and my betta has just brought down a shrimp that melted in the middle of the tank, completely defenseless.
Yes badis, gouramis and medium danios or tetras are rutheless...embers are laid back, but any baby swimming by...will get their attention in my tanks, when i observed closely. So i moved the embers and swapped reeds and Phoenix or Merah rasboras instead and now the shrimp have doubled quickly! Thanks for watching!
Interesting. A lot of fish get more aggressive when spawning. I know part of it is to show off, or to protect the babies/eggs... however I also have wondered if the extra aggression towards shrimp during spawning has to do with needing more calories/energy. Most fish color up and show off while breeding, so it would make sense.
Love all of your videos. I rather these as a go to, rather than reading pages on line. I still find it funny about the DIY bloke. Gosh, did he ruin himself in one foul swoop eek lol x
Awesome vid ! You think kili clown fish/hatchet fish, Panda corydoras and Chili rasbora/endlers/ (maybe another schooling middle fish?) would work with breeding cherry shrimp in a planted 30 gallon ?
Have kept neon tetras with cherry shrimp. Instead of a bunch of baby shrimp it would be like 2-3 from each batch. Also when I went on vacation, the neon tetras decided that the feeder blocks were less tasty so they went after all the adult cherries, even though similar in size.
Any tips on playing defense since I'm stuck with some guppy fry? I'm winning the algae fight (thanks for the tips!) and trying to push my plants quickly. I built some cover and so have the cactus wood pieces (forgot the name, chollo?). But any tips would be greatly appreciated. Some day, i hope to get white clouds and CPDs in there but I'm stuck with guppies for now.
Hey I'm a big fan of yours. I've just watched at least 7 vids of yours and some other youtubers. I have a few pets but when I came across the aqua scaping, paludarium, i just fell in love, so I've been seeing different animals that I never knew people owned. In some beautiful setups. I have 3 tanks up and running, and 4 more to come. 2 I'm building from my cracked 55 gallon. I didn't know how addictive this hobby can be. My family is mad cause i have tanks all over the house. Plus I have TH-cam playing in almost every room. Ok...ok...ok. Make a long story short. I would like to pick your brain on the best paludarium set up community tank
Well first off, thank you!, secondly....im at a road block mentally...there are so many choices. Let me think (and maybe do an episode on that idea!) Thank you ahain
Thank you kindly Patricia! I have been taking notes for years on what my survival rate of neocaridina shrimp are with various fish. I see a fully berried female and almost opening eggs with eye spots and approximate 10 - 30 babies depending on her size... then see how many lil guys end up appearing 2 months after she lays them
@@Fishtory how interresting i will just stick to my ghost shrimp they bred like crazy for me and no matter what fish so far that i put them with no one bothers them sometimes they over take my tanks one of these days i will give others a try at the moment i have none had to give them away to ocean floor joey made a video of it when he was here you can go to oceanfloor, com love this store but anyways i will get two from them and at the end of a month i will have over 12 in the tank (BABY GHOST SHRIMP)
also what I did to give the shrimp more cover was buy a bunch of java moss and interesting rocks with holes in them. I put those towards the back and the shrimp love to make tunnels through the moss
This came up in my suggestion today. Your angelfish IS a Star!! I’m looking at my beautiful Bloody Mary shrimp and their roommates, the betta and the Amanos 😱 The betta is rather shy for a betta, but the Amanos are shameless. I have lots of plants and caves, hopefully enough. I hand feed the betta and the Amanos have learned to come up and take food from me, too. Now and then, one of my tiny Bloody Marys will approach and take a tidbit. I guess you can spoil shrimp LOL
What do you think in regards to the lamb chop and harlequin rasboras with red cherry shrimp? I have a planted setup with cholla wood. It houses red cherry shrimp, neon tetras, lamb chop rasboras and harlequin rasboras.
You know, they are all a toss up... neon tetras will eat babies frequently and hunt them down, where as the other rasboras seen to only easy them when they swim past or are sitting out on a leaf or stone very obviously....with enough hiding spots it's fine even with guppies and endlers...however you need to keep them well fed and associating food with flake or pellets. If you feed live worms or insects, they definitely hunt a great deal more. Hope this info helps. Thanks!
@@Fishtory Yes it does help a great deal. Now I'm living myself for getting the 15 neons. I notice them more on there lower end of the tank and the rasboras higher up. Those meetings sure look great, but I'll probably rehome them to the betta tank. He has 10 gallons all to himself. Looks like he's going to have company. I really want my shrimp colony to get really big.
Watched this video more than 3 times. Love it. Trying to setup a no filter low tech tank with just plant lights. already have red cherry shrimps and plants thriving for the last 4 months. have 6-8 ember tetras and they are doing well,. Have nearly 50+ RCS babies :) Can I put some zebra glo danios? I really love those blues and purples ?
You can depending on tank size. They swim a ton, jump out of the tank frequently, and will eat shrimp babies. I would recommend Tinwini danios, gold ring danios or meeting halfway between cpd and zebra danios...the Chopra glowlights are nice and less nippy
@@Fishtory Its a 30 gallon tank. Started with 10 shrimp and in 4 months, I bet there are 100 now. Do I need something that keeps shrimp population in check? PS: But I dont want to kill the shrimp either :(
I currently have a betta in my 20 gallon long with my shrimp. I'm pretty sure he's snacked on a few. He was in a 33 long divided tank, but one of the dividers failed (new one is on the way) and his next door neighbor tried to kill him. His fins are healing and he seems to be enjoying the live food. I hope my colony survives until I can move him! The shrimp do have hiding places, so I'm hopeful. I didn't think about guppies being a problem. That may be why my blue dream colony never took off.
@@Fishtory I have a betta in a 20 long that was chill with my shrimp colony until a few months ago when he just started mercing adults and leaving the carcass for the rest of the shrimp to finish off. We noticed shrimp number falling but there were enough shrimp to consume the bodies before we noticed them. It depends on how our betta feels, I guess.
Something that I like with this channel is that so much information about all fish shrimp I like and at the end of the day I know how to raise my little friends knowing their life history :)
Im so glad you feel that way...i try and show common fish, rare fish and then discuss the stories behind both. Sometimes these lists are a bit "cliché" and on many other channels, but i hope they tie back into my longer, more educational videos. Thanks for watching, my friend!
Great video, this really helped but i recently setup a white cloud tank. Do you think white clouds are ok? Ive heard they are sble to fit near adults in their mouths. Anyways, as long as the adults and maybe 1 or 2 of the shrimplets survive, im ok woth it.
Can you make or do you have a video about aquarium critters? Flatworms, planaria, paramecium, copepoda and how these occupy a niche in the aquarium? These arevery secretive in tanks with more than snails, but often enough they are there.
I have one on auwfuchs and i have done several on hydra and planaria if you search through old videos, however a complete comprehensive episode on it all in general is a great suggestion! Thank you
@@Fishtory I breed Paramecium in a planted snail tank as Nano fish food. They love it and it is both very little work and a good looking fish food production method. To get the paramecium I took some hay from a meadow outside and 24 hours later removed it. After a while they became visible enough to be paramecium. Very good food for Danio margaritatus fry, but the guppy take it too.
All your fish look great as do your planted tanks as well. Mr. Puffer is adorable! I'd say, Chili Rasbora's are 99.5% safe with shrimp in a heavily planted tank. I've seen baby shrimp as young as a week old or possibly younger out in the open and my chili's leave them alone. My colony is growing nicely from my original 10.
@@Fishtory I'd be interested in knowing what you consider a nano fish? Their size/length that is. On a forum recently there was a conversation about that. A couple of us were in agreement with fish needing to be under an inch to be a nano fish while another person was saying you can go bigger. He named a few species but I don't remember what they were but I personally wouldn't have called them a nano fish.
i have stiphodon goby with shrimps and i can confirm they behave like otocinclus they are ignoring the shrimp as long if they have lots of places to graze and you also give them meaty supplements like that mosquito larvae, the meaty supplements depends on species though some are completely algae and biofilm grazer so they completely ignore your shrimps but since yours take some mosquito larvae i assume that is the one that need meaty supplement
I also have hillstream loach in the tank which are not a problem, also half beaks who never bother the shrimp. But I'm still suspicious the gobies are keeping down the number of baby shrimp. Thinking of adding CPDs.
@@dr8576 i think as long you have lots of grazing area and keep your goby well fed and lots of hiding area for shrimps should be okay, cpd also awesome but if you still have problem maintaining your shrimp colony number i won't really add new fish until it is established good luck with your tank!
my amano shrimp definetly mess with the neocaridina shrimp! it sucks but i guess i gotta get the 3 amano shrimp, and i guess the feeder guppies out of my 2.6g shrimp tank! Thanks for the info!!
This list could have been 100 fish long, but i chose fish and one shrimp that I have personally kept in neocaridina shrimp colonies and kept track of. And yes, the Amanos will sometimes eat babies even...but mostly stress out the shrimp so badly that often times berried mothers abort their clutch :(
Number 10: Ember tetras are not that bad. I have a growing colony of Orange Juice Neos and because the baby shrimp kinda match the color of the juvenile Embers, my tanks also grows, ( here's the thing; the Ember adults, if well fed don't harass the young Tetras or baby shrimp..) much like White Clouds don't hassle their tiny fry much if well fed. The mouths of Embers are pretty tiny so there's a point when the hatchling shrimp if they can hide for a few molts, get big enough to grant them some amnesty.
Man, I love the selection of plants/rocks/wood you use... What lights are you using on these tanks? They all look like Finnex or something similar? All I remember is you like as bright as possible.
Thank you kindly, theres a big give away going on, if you look at a few of my recent videos- feel free to enter the 1,000 $ shrimp, fish and giftcard give away that ends July 15th! Details listed in my last 3 videos
Some Phoenix Rasbora i see tend to look more faded than others. Do they vary their level of intensity based on their surroundings/mood etc or is the variation in colour just from the different light set ups? I really like the Somphongsi, but they're so tricky to source here in the UK. I would love to put together a heavily planted tank for a big school of them along with some shrimp. 👍
Exactly, my friend! These ones are pheonix rasboras and glow even brighter than chilis when eating, breeding or in a tank alone, but they change color and the ones in the video are shy with the somphongsi school always taking center stage.
Thx 4 all the info. As I mentioned b4 & learned that I shouldn't have put my tiny blue diamond shrimp in w/ the 1 Molly that I had in 1 tank. However, I have 3 of my tiny blue shrimp in w/ my Glowlight tetra & the shrimp seemed to be doing well. I have plants, I just don't know if it's considered heavily. When they were tiny, they would hide in the dense part of the hornwort
Totally understandable. I've had to try about 40 combos and ask people who've kept shrimp twice as long as i have, before figuring out which ones seem to work well
@@Fishtory Well, it seemed like I still have 1 of my Blue Diamond shrimp, in the tank w/ the Molly. I thought the Molly ate them all. The shrimp was smart enough 2 keep hidden in the Anubis. I couldn't believe it! Now I think he's big enough to not be eaten.
Currently have 5 male dwarf panda guppies in my 5 gallon. I’m thinking about blue cherries. It is heavily planted. The guppies are fully grown and they’re about the size of an endler females, they’re not bigger than an inch. Do you think it’s worth a try, I’d like the population to be sustainable.
This is amazing! As all your videos are! You mentioned in your video that chilli rasboras are a good option because they won’t pray on shrimp babies, I’ve read a lot of differing opinions on this so just wondered if you have experience or know this to be true? I’m at the very start with my fancy red tiger caridina colony so really want every baby to survive. Thank you very much😁
With those shrimp I'd keep them alone...maybe a nerite snail or otocinctlus...anything else will theoretically, eat a few babies in the first 2 weeks. This list is more for adults...or tanks where enough babies being born to not worry about 25% or less being eaten... but with caridina being slower growers and just as tiny, I'd leave them out until that colony is 100+ shrimp
Omg Alexander Williamson haha I've literally always wondered what you look like. Love your videos on shrimp, I often re watch them. All the best from Sheffield, England.
Hah right on! Well, im glad you enjoy the videos and i wish i could visit Sheffield someday. My grandfather is Scottish and his family moved to Sheffield in the 1950s ... i should track my Williamson family down there!
Which one would you recommend between chili rasbora, dwarf rasbora, and galaxy rasbora I planned to put them on breeding tank for prevent mosquito and it seems galaxy rasbora/CPD is still try to eat shrimplet once they saw it
Probably the galaxy rasbora...but they will eat some of shrimp babies too annoyingly... you gotta stick with true nano fish like boraras species to avoid that
thank you so much! i have fire painted cherry shrimp, like 3 pregnant shrimp ready to give birth, and amber tetras! I'm going to relocate the amber tetras to my 38 gallon tetra/corydora/amano shrimp tank at some point after this video!
Any fish is capable of eating shrimp in the first few weeks, but these happen to be fish that I've seen eat entire broods of shrimp in a day or two, where as most my tanks have shrimp and nano fish of some sort...so hiding spots are key, and if the shrimp is a project for profit, then having 0 fish is probably the way to go
Well, that’s it! I was hoping to go tomorrow to pick up some shrimp for my embers and Pygmy cories. Probably just as well, I have a couple amano shrimp that are on steroids in there also. Another shrimply informative video, Alexander. Thank you.
Too late. Wish I watched your video a couple of weeks ago. Luckily my shrimps, silver tip tetras and betta have been in quarantine separately. I now have betta and silvertip in the new aquarium and shrimp in a small 5 gallon because they’re less than a month old. My question is.. do I add the cherry shrimp when they’re adult? Will the adult get eaten too?
Would neon tetras work if the tank is heavily planted with hiding spots? I hear people say they have good luck with them but I didn't know if you would lump them in with ember tetras. Edit: nevermind, heard it at the very end lol
Haha no worries... yes they work, but once in a blue moon youll find one tetra that aquires a taste for baby shrimp...if you notice one stalking the babies, its helpful to remove that one problem "wolf neon tetra"
When I knew nothing, I had thriving red cherry colony in a tank overstocked with neons. Shrimp were crawling in the open on all the surfaces, so they felt safe I guess.
i have a pair of amanos with my colony of neos. food aways gets to all of them as i feed a decent amount but not enough to get my snails to overpopulate and they all do well. pretty funny to see a amanos squabble for food. the real offenders were my green neons which i originally had [ the shrimp were all hiding ] and now they are way more active. the only tankmates are 2 hastatus and 3 pygmy cories
Bought aquarium plants from aquatic arts a few days ago and totally forgot about the code and the giveaways. Nice to know which fish tend to eat shrimp.
You can try writing them an email...Preston or Bill will likely answer... tell them at least that you ordered from my video and we can enter you 110 points into the $1,000 dollar giveaway :) they're super chill...but if you email them, then they'll send me info that you earned all those extra drawing chances
Epic. I have also, but they have mouths and are fish...so my assumption until proven otherwise by several sources....is that it eats shrimp if it is a fish with a mouth lol
Had 100s of shrimp with larger fish that you would think they would eat them like Cochu's blue tetra and harlequin rasbora, big schools of them and not bother the shrimp at all. But had other smaller mild mannered fish that would wipe them out. For instance blue eye rainbows will wipe them out, but the larger threadfin rainbows mouths are too small.
I have a ghost shrimp population problem so I need some nano fish that will eat the shrimp. I have a betta in the 10 gallon tank but he doesn't eat the shrimp or fry.
If you give them hiding spots, it should be fine. However breeding new baby shrimp may be tricky depending on how aggressive your danios decide to be. Good luck!
@@Fishtory I just put them in and the dainios seem to leave them alone when they are climbing, but when the shrimp start swiming around, the dainios chase and nip at them. Is that ok or should i remove the shrimp?
Right on! Just plan it well ... enough pea puffers so they stick to their own species (5 or 6+) and some medium sized peaceful fish to break up the landscape and tension: )
What was the red waterlily-like plant is the second aquarium? Looked really nice! Also... I've got a month old 20 gallon tank, with 8 neon Tetras (who are often recommended with shrimp) and some pregnant Neocaridina shrimp, now I'm kind of worried after your video because I want the shrimp population to expand (they are doing well with the adult shrimp so far). I've already added additional hiding places and made a second aquarium some days ago, which isn't run in... So my question is what would be the biggest risk, putting pregnant Neocaridina in the new tank to spawn or keep them with te neons?
I like doing a nursery tank with baby shrimp and some cholla wood or leaf litter for promoting biofilm...and rock hides so they feel secure and no stress. But it would probably also be okay all in one tank, you just would see less babies by 20 to 50% im guessing. As for the plant im not sure which ir was without a better look. But I think it's a dwarf red tiger lily/lotus aka nymphaea zernikia
Plant heavily if you want to make sure your male betta won't go too territorial. Sometimes my male betta wants to rule a whole 10g and attacks even the snails or anything that approaches his bubble nest. Plants help with breaking line of sight so that they reduce stress. If you provide enough shade and hiding places then shrimp can escape easily in case the betta gets too grumpy. Shrimp can swim surprisingly fast when it comes to saving their antennas and their delicious meat. Also note that bettas prefer completely still water and they love plants with big leaves and floaters too. For decorations try to avoid anything with sharp edges.
Hello bud you mentioned a substitute fish for pea puffers something micron can u please send me the full name, also I have long fun zebra danios with my shrimps and they seem to get on well 😀
Erythromicron aka emerald dwarf rasbora or galaxy rasbora (not to be confused with celestial pearl danios that were also labled that for a while...and both are so closely related they can hybridize). Also red tiger badis, sapphire/ blue badis and most of all- the scarlet badis is a nice substitute for pea puffers, since they are territorial and males keep colonies of females and various nests at under one inch full grown
lol i've just moved a puffer to a new shrmp tank because i saw that there are some strange unidentified worms in the aquariums and so i was hoping that the puffer will clear these worms out for me and it did. but i didnt think that puffer will threat adult shrimps, anyway i'll try to move the puffer back out again before i get shrimp babys. but puffers are fast, i am still having difficulties of netting it out.
I ordered 2 bags of random neocaridina shrimp. I received a bag of red shrimp and a bag of golden yellow shrimp. I notified the seller as whoever got my shrimp would not be happy. They offered to send the others but I was not disappointed with what I received. Sometimes you just get lucky.
Syngonanthus sp.“Belém” It is an AWESOME plant...lowtech or high tech... goes great with crypts at the base...it gets wider and bushier the higher up the plant you go :) like a dr. Seus looking thing
Great video. I’m having trouble with my tank. My adult cherry shrimp are full of eggs all the time, but no shrimpets are appearing. I have 1 bristlenose catfish and 6 Emerald Green Rasborra in a heavily planted 10 gallon tank. Piles of rocks and loads of hiding places for little shrimp. I thought I picked some good companion fish for my cherry shrimp. What am I doing wrong?
How long has it been. Baby shrimp generally hide for 1 to 2 months after being born. However if I had to guess, it is the rasboras that learned a taste for shrimp unfortunately. They can only eat the youngest of shrimp, but sometimes they "learn" to hunt the babies and decide to do so. Feeding them live baby Brine Shrimp could help fill them up, still let them hunt, but start targeting a new food source. Sorry to hear about that though
Brand new line from Thailand. Dumbo ear silver koi guppies! They come in "blone" "panda" and albino now also...hard to find...those were FEMALES! so incredibly colorful for female livebearers
@@Fishtory How interesting. They look almost exactly like my tuxedo red koi guppies. I think those were imported from Thailand as well, because the fish shop I got them from imports most, if not all, of their fish from Thailand. I bought 5 or 6 cherry shrimp (it included 1 or 2 baby shrimp) about 2 weeks ago and added them to the guppy tank. The next day I couldn't find any shrimp and thought they'd been eaten by the guppies, but gradually I started to see more come out. This evening the shrimp were busy eating and flying around the tank and hardly paying attention to the guppies, and earlier today I saw one of the baby shrimp--now a bit larger and redder-come out of the castle decoration. Maybe my guppies are also a strain of endlers, or endler/guppy hybrid?
@@RochelleDhingra1 totally possible, they mix the two species constantly to get smaller sized fish, or to get the females to have color. Female endlers are easier to breed coloring into, than guppies with most lines. But big fins and unique patterning or solid colors tend to naturally appear in guppy genetics. Those fish you have are super similar, if not the exact same species mix but selected for dark colored bodies. Take care and have fun
@@Fishtory Thank you. That's really interesting to know. I had read that endlers are often bred to guppies, and it can be hard to find a pure strain of endlers. I don't know if that's true. We do like these little guppies. They're very cute, colorful and active. Have a great evening!
Yeah that's a really small space sometimes shrimp need 5 or 10 gallons, as well as at least 10 adult shrimp to choose from for breeding. However, ive had neocaridina breed in 2 gallon tanks mant times, so goodluck. I think in that small of a tank, any fish is going to eat all the babies
I really like that you give alternative fish instead of just a top ten not recommended list.

Regarding Amanos being aggressive, I had a few in my planted Betta tank a few years ago. They would steal food right out of the Betta's mouth. It was amazing to watch. That's what I call daring - fearless (maybe crazy?) creatures really.
My amano will act like rabid dogs while feeding especially if its blood worms. They'll actually bow guard the food lol
I found that the 2 Amanos would harass my 'quiet' Betta. I think that this eventually led to his demise... too much stress.
my betta does that to my amano shrimp. maybe my betta is just really aggressive?
Could be

It never ceases to amaze me the types of fish you have together, living peacefully... For the most part. 👌🕵️♂️✌️
Yes, thanks...i spend the days with them in my sight while i work on videos etc and it allows me to try things, i probably shouldnt otherwise lol
@@Fishtory it's really great that you have the ability to spend so much time with them, doing what you're obviously so passionate about, and good at. And you sharing that knowledge is so, so appreciated!! ✌️
Instant follow when you covered the camera so people wouldn't get motion sick while moving! thanks for being so considerate!
Haha sorry, those old videos are sooooo bad at that before I could afford a gimbal to make things smoother. I still struggle but the new videos are much better haha. Welcome and make yourself at home! Cheers
I've kept Male and female Betta's with Neo's. Baby survival is low but the colony is certainly sustainable
That's definitely what im learning too

Oh reaaaallly? I think someone took over his old website since he retired ( this video is 4 or 5 years old now. My apologies...and thanks for saying something)
@@Fishtory No problem thanks for all that you do!
Well thank you for your kind words and input on the matter at hand haha. Welcome to the channel, as well. Cheers!
Awesome vid ! You think kili clown fish/hatchet fish, Panda corydoras and Chili rasbora/endlers/ (maybe another schooling middle fish?) would work with breeding cherry shrimp in a planted 30 gallon ?
Yeah if you have enough plants and rocks for the shrimp babies to hide near...it'll work :)
Have kept neon tetras with cherry shrimp. Instead of a bunch of baby shrimp it would be like 2-3 from each batch. Also when I went on vacation, the neon tetras decided that the feeder blocks were less tasty so they went after all the adult cherries, even though similar in size.
Só is the celestial pearl danio an ok fish to be in the community aquarium with trumpet snails and cherry shrimp?
Yes, but some babies will go MIA... The adults are totally safe though
Just hidding spots an feed floating flake food
Thank you. How about salt and pepper corys and lambchop rasbora?
Those are both pretty peaceful. Definitely wont eat adult shrimp... but rasboras may eat a few babies here and there
@@Fishtory thank you. sidenote- corys are the greatest fish to ever suck water. #teamsnpcory

Let me think (and maybe do an episode on that idea!) Thank you ahain
good list alex
Thank you kindly Patricia! I have been taking notes for years on what my survival rate of neocaridina shrimp are with various fish. I see a fully berried female and almost opening eggs with eye spots and approximate 10 - 30 babies depending on her size... then see how many lil guys end up appearing 2 months after she lays them
@@Fishtory how interresting i will just stick to my ghost shrimp they bred like crazy for me and no matter what fish so far that i put them with no one bothers them sometimes they over take my tanks one of these days i will give others a try at the moment i have none had to give them away to ocean floor joey made a video of it when he was here you can go to oceanfloor, com love this store but anyways i will get two from them and at the end of a month i will have over 12 in the tank (BABY GHOST SHRIMP)
the guppies at 5:47 the black body with the orange tails and dorsal fins, what would thoes be called?
Orange tuxedos essentially :)
@@Fishtory awesome, thanks alot. i have a few adults that look like that and wasnt too sure that theyd be called
also what I did to give the shrimp more cover was buy a bunch of java moss and interesting rocks with holes in them. I put those towards the back and the shrimp love to make tunnels through the moss
Good planning!
Awesome informative video 👍👍
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
Haha. Thanks for watching, and welcome!
Have nearly 50+ RCS babies :)
Can I put some zebra glo danios? I really love those blues and purples ?
You can depending on tank size. They swim a ton, jump out of the tank frequently, and will eat shrimp babies. I would recommend Tinwini danios, gold ring danios or meeting halfway between cpd and zebra danios...the Chopra glowlights are nice and less nippy
@@Fishtory Its a 30 gallon tank. Started with 10 shrimp and in 4 months, I bet there are 100 now. Do I need something that keeps shrimp population in check?
PS: But I dont want to kill the shrimp either :(
i just witnessed a group of my neon tetra gang buffet on my neo caridina shrimp that just after molt...gruesome
Whoa... yeah
Yeah, some betta are fine and not very aggressive, but I've also had some that are sharks and hunt down any baby shrimp as a hobby more than even food
You have to look at the eyes....if they are pointing in different directions they are probably crazy and homicidal.
I have 5 kuhliloach in my 20 long with cheer shrimp but it has guppy grass very thick will the loaches hunt the shrimplets
They probably will, but probably won't be able to ear very many, luckily
Something that I like with this channel is that so much information about all fish shrimp I like and at the end of the day I know how to raise my little friends knowing their life history :)
Im so glad you feel that way...i try and show common fish, rare fish and then discuss the stories behind both. Sometimes these lists are a bit "cliché" and on many other channels, but i hope they tie back into my longer, more educational videos. Thanks for watching, my friend!
Thanks for the info❤
Any time
Great video, this really helped but i recently setup a white cloud tank. Do you think white clouds are ok? Ive heard they are sble to fit near adults in their mouths. Anyways, as long as the adults and maybe 1 or 2 of the shrimplets survive, im ok woth it.
Thank you. I took notes to not make mistakes.
Haha sure. Good point
Rummy nose, threadfin rainbow, and neon tetra.. will it work with shrimp. I am shocked that embers won't work
They work with adults...but will eat babies...mouth size is part of it
that gonna take a long time .all your times to see to the fish .for ever .i Hope you get some were better and bigger .for more Tanks .good video
Totally... most the fish i recommended will allow 60 to 90% of the babies to survive - from my experience.
What about stiphodon gobies? Supposed to be biofilm grazers, but they go after mosquito larvae.
They seem okay in theory, i just haven't tried the combo personally...good idea though. Panda loaches are pretty safe top
Hmm I have never heard of that type of goby. Now I have something new to look up :)
i have stiphodon goby with shrimps and i can confirm they behave like otocinclus they are ignoring the shrimp as long if they have lots of places to graze and you also give them meaty supplements like that mosquito larvae, the meaty supplements depends on species though some are completely algae and biofilm grazer so they completely ignore your shrimps but since yours take some mosquito larvae i assume that is the one that need meaty supplement
Hey , would you put glow light danio , crossbanded danio and celestial Pesaro danio with crystal red schrimp ? Thanks
Adult shrimp with plants or rocks to hide in...yes 100%... no, If you want to breed more shrimp
Yet another informative video.Thanks Alex.
Thank you for watching
my amano shrimp definetly mess with the neocaridina shrimp! it sucks but i guess i gotta get the 3 amano shrimp, and i guess the feeder guppies out of my 2.6g shrimp tank!
100% its just the babies, but i always hear people say theyre "totally shrimp safe" so they made the list
Man, I love the selection of plants/rocks/wood you use... What lights are you using on these tanks? They all look like Finnex or something similar? All I remember is you like as bright as possible.
They are actually Twinstar ea600s and then fluval 3.0s usually on my planted tanks
@@Fishtory I have two of the Fluval Nanos - I'll consider the 3.0 24"-36" for the 20 Long I'm setting up

Thank you kindly, theres a big give away going on, if you look at a few of my recent videos- feel free to enter the 1,000 $ shrimp, fish and giftcard give away that ends July 15th! Details listed in my last 3 videos
Any idea about cherry berbs? Compitable?
Definitely not- at least in my experience. They eat any shrimp that fits in their mouth...adults included
If you have plenty of plants and rock pile hides
Great video.... searching Nano's and came across your channel. Now a new subscriber!
Which one would you recommend between chili rasbora, dwarf rasbora, and galaxy rasbora I planned to put them on breeding tank for prevent mosquito and it seems galaxy rasbora/CPD is still try to eat shrimplet once they saw it
Probably the galaxy rasbora...but they will eat some of shrimp babies too annoyingly... you gotta stick with true nano fish like boraras species to avoid that
@@Fishtory what boraras you most prefer brigittae, maculata or merah they all seems interesting local fish but I don't know their behavior.

I have 3 videos on nano fish that work with shrimp... check out the one called " 21 nanofish that are shrimp safe "

@@Fishtory cool. I get it. I have tumors on both adrenal glands. Hormones out of wack.
thank you so much! i have fire painted cherry shrimp, like 3 pregnant shrimp ready to give birth, and amber tetras!
Thank you.
you mentioned those female endlers (they look like guppies) with orange faces. What type are those? They're incredible beautiful!
Some local breeder crossed the yellow tiger endlers with some orange star endlers if I recall
I love guppies/endlers with a different color on the face! Too bad they can be really hard to find depending on where you are.
Glad it worked out eventually :) amanos definitely have personalities
are tuxedo koi guppy called a tuxedo koi endler?
Often times...it mostly just depends on size and body shape
Bought aquarium plants from aquatic arts a few days ago and totally forgot about the code and the giveaways. Nice to know which fish tend to eat shrimp.
You can try writing them an email...Preston or Bill will likely answer... tell them at least that you ordered from my video and we can enter you 110 points into the $1,000 dollar giveaway :) they're super chill...but if you email them, then they'll send me info that you earned all those extra drawing chances
I’ve seen Pygmy Sparkling Gourami gradually eat full size shrimp limb by limb
Very true! It's pretty counter intuitive often times. Thanks for sharing those examples
Great video! You’re videos are an awesome source of information! Thank you.
Merci! Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel Vince!
I have a ghost shrimp population problem so I need some nano fish that will eat the shrimp. I have a betta in the 10 gallon tank but he doesn't eat the shrimp or fry.
Pea puffers, any cichlid or dwarf cichlids will both make short work of the shrimp
What was the fish you recommended instead of the pea puffer?
Scarlet badis?
What is the fish in 10:26? The black and white colored fish, covict cichlid?
Yes blue lil guys
Honduran red points
i have a 20 gallon with 6 zebra dainios and 2 cory catfish. will cherry shrimp be fine with them?
If you give them hiding spots, it should be fine. However breeding new baby shrimp may be tricky depending on how aggressive your danios decide to be. Good luck!
@@Fishtory I just put them in and the dainios seem to leave them alone when they are climbing, but when the shrimp start swiming around, the dainios chase and nip at them. Is that ok or should i remove the shrimp?
Seeing that pea puffer in a community tank makes me so happy!!!
That is my goal for my 75g. Puffer community tank!!!!!! 💪
@@Fishtory That's it! Thank you.
Great vid thanks!
Ive been itching to get a beta tank going. Thinking cherry shrimp would look good in a 10g with the beta. Glad I saw this. Would Amano be ok?
Amano are okay usually, but make sure you feed them in 2 or 3 spots, so they don't compete during chow time, or they bully each other
Plant heavily if you want to make sure your male betta won't go too territorial.
Thanks to you both. Alex, research complete 😜
Kuhli loach fine with shrimplets?
Hello bud you mentioned a substitute fish for pea puffers something micron can u please send me the full name, also I have long fun zebra danios with my shrimps and they seem to get on well 😀
Oh whoa... zebra danios are notoriously nippy on shrimp
Every fish is different...especially puffers, but id keep a close eye on this situation
Score
Big time
does it include neon tetras?
Sort of. Id include them generally speaking. Just make sure the babies under a month old have plenty of places to hide
If your trying to breed snails for profit is it okay to over feed agae waffers
Yes, just keep an eye on nitrate levels and water change as needed :)
Very true.. Ember Tetras eat everything that can fit into their mouth 😄 like Seed Shrimps, detritus worms..
16:01, what is the plant? Solid green, spider grass like. I must have one
Syngonanthus sp.“Belém”

Honey Gourami, ember tetras, cherry barbs in my tank I’d love angel fish
Yeah that's a fine combo...everyone is chill but can hold their own if need be...well some angel fish are jerks, but most are fine unless spawning
You look mighty good today🤩
I have 6 pair of danios can i put cherry shrimp in it
I wouldn't unless you have a ton of dense plants and rocks for the shrimp to hide in.
@@Fishtory thanks for ur advice😊
What kind of endlers were those red, black, and silver ones?
I used to have 4 cpds in a 2.5 gal with shrimp and was getting no babies so I took the cpds out and will see what happens
My platies in my community tank chowed down all the adult ghost shrimps and amano shrimps. They're pretty terrible. Thank you for the video.
Sorry to hear that... but yes... larger live bearers can be pretty brutal to shrimp
🎄Happy 4th my fish friend 🎆🎇🎉🎊

*Me hoping he doesn’t say ember tetras*
