Yeah car collectors and car guys are a different breed. Its nice to be able to strike up a conversation. Ive met alot of good people all striking up a convo cause a car
Don’t know either personally but far as I can tell, they’re both genuinely nice guys. No attitudes, no overinflated egos, no narcissism, no playing up for the camera… those traits (or lack thereof) are highly desirable and oftentimes hard to find in individuals of their status.
I love listening to Jay when he talks about his beloved McLaren F1,…. I’m pretty sure if anyone of us owned the goat of supercars we would be talking with the exact same enthusiasm.
You can tell the real car enthusiasts on David’s channel gave this one a like. Should have many more IMHO. Great authentic, casual (“non Hollywood”) tour of some awesome cars. Definitely learned some cool stuff; Jay is an automotive encyclopedia
You are so nice and must bleed 20W50 sir! What a great memory you have too. I have lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma most of my life and wanted to tell you about Mac from Mac’s Electric. Your collection spurred this memory. A few decades ago he was still living but an “old man”. He had a collection near one of his stores on 3rd Street. I went in on a weekend to tour the shop as he was opened to the public. He was so nice and walked around with us, telling of different cars and their history. At one point he said, “…hit me in the gut…I can take it!” I popped him about medium hard and he laughed it off. Then he said, “If you give me 50 cents I will open the hood on this old Lincoln.”. It opened from the side and he talked about the engine and the car and closed it back up. Then he said, “Well? Where is my 50 cents??” so I kindly paid him. That was a good day…
David, you are by far my favorite guest on Jay's show, thank you for sharing your collection with him, and us! Also, I'm insanely jealous of you having the chance to go hang out with him and just do cars. Awesome!
Jay's collection is so cool. I mean a lot of these cars you would think would be 10 million dollar cars, but they are *so* rare that they aren't even much valuable. I mean *nobody* has a fully restored steam car from 1896 or an electric car from 1909, they just don't change hands. Its truly a one of a kind collection that will never be recreated.
WOW, I just decided to type " David Lee Ferrari collection" while watching the Jay Leno video on his 2 F50's and found this that was just uploaded 59 minutes ago, AWESOME!!
@@pat1589 I am aware. I watched both since their inception. He may be standing in Jay’s garage complex, but it’s his upload and Channel all that I’m commenting on
What's great about Jay is, he loves ALL cars. And, even though he doesn't believe in the Ferrari business model, he doesn't give a hard time to people who do. The man built his own museum out of pure passion
@8:17 when Nissan sent cars to the US, they wanted a different name for the car for the reasons Jay explains. The cars shipped out and arrived on the American shores, waiting to be unloaded.. Without having the name figured out yet, Nissan execs told their marketing department that a name had to be decided by the next moonrise. The frantic marketing executives replied, "dat-soon?"
David is a great audience for Jay...he finds his old school awkwardly america-centric sense of history and humor, his gentle 60's era misogyny, hilarious...or it's the polite laugh you give when your boss tells the same joke every other day...they have something really important to them in common...they really love cars...it's car guy camaraderie 👍💯
I knew where the gas cap was on '55 & '56 Imperials. Back in the 60's growing up, I thought the clever way the '56 & '57 Chevys hid them was a neat trick and come to find out, the idea was taken from (I think) the '48 Cadillac all along...just like it was Barzini all along.
I believe only vehicles exported by Nissan were identified as Datsun, not just to the US as the UK also had Datsun's until 1986, probably others, I bet Australia had Datsun also
@@TamagoHead well better than Jay's that's for sure. Obviously I knew something was wrong in his statement so of course I am going to check on facts with a quick search to cure my curiosity and yes I put some parts of the information I found in my first comment (because its relevant to getting facts straight) to share these facts, as in the video misinformation is being spread and misinformation is detrimental to man kind, a little bit like you are also, because clearly you also did a little search and noticed I had used some of the information I found on Wiki and then came back here to have a poke at me for doing that, that's pretty sad and pathetic considering I was only trying to correct misinformation not make myself sound like a clever clogs, anyway I hope your little poke at me and my comment made you feel amazing about yourself
I made the same point in a comment I left. I'm in Scotland and my Grandpa had multiple Datsuns. Some of my best memories were in those cars.... especially the 510!!! 🤤🤤🤤😄
Pay attention folks. If you watch the JLG that coincides with this episode you'll see both of these guys lack a common thing - perfect infallible knowledge about all cars. So many people nitpick others for not knowing some detail about various machines as if it indicates their standing as enthusiasts is undeserved. Nice to see enthusiasts who willingly admit their knowledge is imperfect.
Always great to see these two collaborate. And respect to another David, David Holmes, the artist for the background music played throughout most of the video. Not yet credited in the description. You might recognize them from Ocean's 11.
Guys this is special we can see 1 of the most amazing car collections in the world jay leno have great cars muscle, super, sport old cars men i would pay anything too see that garage if i have the money to pay 😜. But i love jay leno and david lee they're such good person, down to earth these are the type of people i wanna hang with it to learn so much about cars and live
Jay my man. I absolutely love u brother. But..... I was a bit shocked because your car knowledge is usually encyclopaedic.... however 'Datsun' wasn't just an American thing. Here in Scotland my Grandfather had multiple Datsuns. So also sold in the UK. Love your collection AND your humility. Keep it up!!!!

Great and fascinating vid! I was lucky enough to have a personal tour back in 2010. Mr Leno was a fantastic host and took the Baker Electric for a spin around the block. It was a very cool experience.
Thank you for sharing your collection with us lesser humans haha. I love the fact that you like to have 30 cars so you can drive 1 a day every month. These cars are meant to be driven and not mothballed. My hats off to you sir.
I think it’s fly yellow because people flock to it like flies lol. I wonder what Jay uses to keep the exposed metal on his 300sl from rusting from humidity/touching
I have to correct Jay on the Nissan/Datsun thing... We had (before I was born) Datsuns here in Australia and I know they had them in the UK too. It would've bugged my anorak OCD if I walked by that.
What was your favourite car from the exclusive tour?! Comment below 👇
The Mazda Cosmo, then the Baker Electric - if you're going to pick something from that amazing collection, you may as well go quirky!
His free Miura is very special.
Really pleased you have done this , 2 great blokes talking about cars !
The F1 - by far.
I really like the yellow F50.. but I like your red F40 even more.. my all time favourite car. 😊👍🏼
David and Jay have hilarious chemistry.
I wouldn't say that a couple of car guys enjoying vehicles is "hilarious," but it's your call.
@@mountainmandale1587 Have you seen all the previous videos? Yes, this one was more to the vest. You must not know the history.

I didn’t see any hilarious chemistry, all I seen was two dudes that didn’t even crack a smile barely, lack of any real personality
I love listening to Jay when he talks about his beloved McLaren F1,…. I’m pretty sure if anyone of us owned the goat of supercars we would be talking with the exact same enthusiasm.
It's a cool car till you have to get into it.
Drinking game:
Take a shot every time David says “mhmmm”
Try watching the video on speakers no picture.. Than u notice how much he says that and its annoying or try the drinking game
Or the word, right. Lol
“I can’t afford socks, all the money goes to Ferrari “ , well said🤣🤣

Everyone who gets a private tour with Jay has to try and find the gas cap on the 1956 Imperial. EVERYONE! LOL

This is the most exciting friendship for us car nerds to watch on youtube
Jay Leno is such an historian of cars. I hope someone perseveres all of recordings of him talking about cars throughout his life.
You know it's gonna be a good video when it starts off with a song from drop kick Murphys

When it is two older guys, they are just jokes.
The Daimler Dart has a pretty cool engine,180hp from 2.5 litres in 57!! Very impressive
1909 Baker Electric, JAY LOVES IT, she's a real beauty 😍🙏

Lol.
That 1909 electric car had the best story commentary from Jay Leno. Loved it
I would love to hang out with David even if we weren't around his cars, just a cool person.
Jay has the best car collection in the US. He is such a true car guy just like David is. 👍 Matt
Ralph Lauren. Leno has a fun collection but a lot of it is ordinary stuff.
Cars and watches. Getting to talk to David Lee for just an hour would be an unforgettable moment!
Jay is the Grandfather/King of the car guy world. No private collection and most public ones can compete with him.
It was cool seeing you two totally relaxed and having fun! I always enjoy seeing you two have fun
Glad you enjoyed it Anthony!
Love you and Leno together. Like two old pals , just born in a different generation.

To be pedantic, we in Ireland had the Datsun from the 70's until the Nissan primacy in the late 80's. Love the show btw.

Well, he's in the Muira S for $80k. Wow. I remember the 90's.
I feel like David has no idea what Jay is talking about at times.
Maybe but he is a very intelligent man. He knows a lot about cars in general. Not just Ferrari

You both together in videos twice today! Amazing. Great day indeed to be an automotive enthusiast.
Wow David, this is so great! Thanks!
Jay Leno in my opinion has the greatest diverse car collection of all time.... 🔥
With no Ferraris ^^
