- BIG NEWS: This is the first video in a five-part series featuring a DeTomaso Pantera, a collaboration between "Redline Rebuild" and "Barn Find Hunter". On "Barn Find Hunter," we always uncover cars that have been hidden for years and delve into their fascinating stories. Typically, we are involved in the initial phase of the barn find story, step one. Rarely do we have the privilege of witnessing steps two and three: the exchange of ownership and the restoration. Today is that special day! Tom's son, Brian, has purchased a DeTomaso Pantera that has been frozen in time for nearly 40 years. The Pantera gets loaded onto a flatbed and taken back to the shop for a thorough assessment of its condition, with plans to get the engine running and potentially turn it into our next Redline Rebuild project. Stay tuned for more videos from the Redline Rebuild Team!

That Pantera is Far Beyond Driven.
Lmao. Fuckin awesome. The color of the car kinda matches the album cover as well.
The car is singing "I'm Broken".
What a vulgar display of power.
love it.
I wonder if there is a damage plan?
You all really pulled out all the stops on this episode. This video is wonderful.
I like how the assessment was quick and while still in the garage; it didn't take but a few minutes to note the overall condition and mileage, then the flatbed was immediately brought in. No dicking around with anything else, just close the deal and take it away for its much needed overhaul. Looking forward to seeing what Brian does with this.
Agreed! (If someone offered me a gold nugget that was a little bit beaten up I would still want it!) 😁
Hi Tom welcome back! It’s been a while and so great to see your very fine son with you on this one and of course David from Redline. Another great episode especially showcasing the Tigers and the Elans, both built close to where I live in the U.K. I’m still proud to remember as a young apprentice, Colin Chapman visiting and standing by my workbench as I worked on a twin cam cylinder head. Happy memories
I worked for Tony for many yrs & learned priceless information from him, I remember the blue & red Panteras seating next to each other with a lotus esprit hanging from the ceiling directly above the them, Those where great times i miss working with the old man. & the pink sign said "if you value your life then you will not touch these vehicles"
Thanks, for commenting…. Interestingly, the working Friends, kind of an extended family too 8:25
I also worked for Tony I think he bought every Lotus that was wrecked east of the Mississippi.wonder where The John Player Europer went that hung above This car
when I worked there a man called to buy this car, Tony told hm twenty thousand, and do not try to offer a lower price. The man showed up, and had eighten thousand. Tony chased him all the way to his car. So it was still there for Brian.
The steering wheel for that car is the same that came with the British Ford Capri Mk1 GT, (1969-1973) so you should be able to get a replacement quite easily, just change the center cap from the Capri logo to the De Tomaso one.
As a devoted Ford fan, this one had drooling from the get go…FANTASTIC to see the PANTERA in such original condition!!!
Looking forward to follow up episodes!
I hope you guys make another episode so we can watch the Pantera get running
What a fantastic opportunity, always have loved these cars, I just kept saying "wow" the whole episode. Congratulations!
I’ve been watching Barn find hunter for so many years now and I have to say this is one of my favourite episodes. The people, the cars, the story and the outcome all perfect. Thank you
What's perfect about this story? Some man took these cars off the street when they were only 4 years old so nobody could enjoy them including himself and his son. his son only knew them as a dust collector. He dies so he did not need the money, and they are then sold to a rich man who probably won't enjoy them except as an investment. Such a waste of wonderful machines.
@@crzy11000Someone drove this car hard for a few years and then parked it when maintenance was coming due.
This was an awesome episode! Pantera and THREE Tigers! What a find. I can listen to Tom talk all day long.
AND a bugeye Sprite, AND two Lotus Elans. Half my dream cars in one building!
What a great barn find! I’m jealous!!
Back in the spring of 72, I was stationed at Ft Sam Houston, in San Antonio. One weekend, there was a new car show at the convention center downtown, so, being a car geek, I went to look at the new cars, that I knew I couldn't afford. At the Ford, Lincoln-Mercury display, was a bright orange Pantera. I stood there looking at it for a bit, and one of the people there asked if I'd like to sit in it. Heck yeah! Closest I ever came to owning one. I do have a couple plastic models, and a nos 74 Pantera parts catalogue. Lots lower maintainence on them.
Being a 'Brit', I do struggle to enjoy American car shows, but I like this guy presenting here, He knows his stuff and he's not trying to prove anything. More of the same, please!
The difference between true passion and making reality TV slop for the $
The reason the British don't make toasters is because they couldn't design one that would leak oil.
Great to see the gang all together!
My ex girlfriend's dad had an unbelievable Tiger. He liked me enough to let us take it out for a date night. I've never had so many compliments and questions thrown at me in a car. I've driven some wild stuff but the attention we were getting was insane. Being a young and attractive couple in a convertible at the time didn't hurt us. I'd almost take one over a Cobra if economics weren't involved.
Whats a tiger?
@@rathodkaran6190 The car half this video is dedicated to.
That's right guys keep finding them and keep saving them don't let die
One of the best episodes I've seen in a long time.thank you tom and company.
I raced one of these in my 67 Olds 442. Sad to say it blew me away. I still loved that 442. Brings back some memories. Thanks for the video 👍🇺🇸
Tom,
Please update us on the 1972 Pantera's progress. I especially want assessments on the engine and drivetrain running conditions.
Up in the description he says this is part 1 of a 5 part series!
TH-cam used to be good and show you part 2 etc as an option to now go to, for some reason the algorithm stopped doing that.
That awesome blue and the Campagnolo wheels really make this one.
I had 2 experiences with Panteras one I worked at a Ford dealership in 77 as a mechanics helper and one came in for a motor we put a new motor. The new motor was a 351 C 2V, so we put the 4V intake on it. I got the old motor. I rebuilt the motor and put it in my 67F-100. The second one my mentor has it as his daily driver since 83, and won't sell it.
Nice
Great collaboration between BFH and RR, and what a fantastic car! Just a thought for a future idea...I have a feeling Davin and Derrick from Vice Grip Garage would make a pretty entertaining duo during a rescue, wouldnt mind seeing that, hint hint lol
AMAZING. My favorite cars of all time together in one barn find episode.. A Pantera and the Sunbeam Tigers. Personally, even if I found a Tiger and the cross member was rusty, along with other spots on the car, I would still get it and rebuild it. I know metal fabrication and don't have the money to buy a nice one, so would work with what I could afford.
I hope the Tigers find good homes as are a beautiful car when restored.
I'd be happy if I was left a nice complete socket set in a case. Let alone a whole estate and automobiles.
Until you hand it over to the next generation. And that's the short life!
I'm glad you featured the Elans. I drove a Europa once and you are right, you wear the car. I drove in bare feet too. What great cars. Thanks for showing them.
Makes you wonder how many cars are tucked away in barn fields almost forgotten about. I'm in the UK but have always loved the DeTomaso Pantera even more so as some of them are being resto-modded.
Wow Tom, you guys really surprised us in this video ,your son is one lucky man, an OG Pantera with 45k miles, he and David will be in an awesome next video , i can't wait to see it 👍
Man I would kill to have an Elan.
Those 2 Evans only have less then 10,000 miles on blue and the white has 2444 miles on it
My dad owned an Elan S2 in 66’ brand new off the showroom floor. British racing green convertible, black interior. Just an awesome car. Went for a ride in it as a kid on a go kart track. I could barely see over the door 😂
The great thing about Panteras were they had Ford 351 Cleveland in an Italian sports car and sounded great with the ability to get all the tune up parts anywhere. The down side was you could buy five new Chevy Vegas for the same price of the Pantera and the insurance on one if you were under thirty in 1972 was equal to the car payments on a new Corvette.
I can't imagine parking a Pantera 5 years old and never driving it for decades. What a cool find, though. One of the coolest cars ever made imo.
This was a great episode! Would love to see the two Elan's down on the ground for a better look and brought back to life as well!
Not sure what I am more excited about the Pantera or the Lotus's. 👍😎👍
3 tigers= $250000..that 260 Tiger was one of the first built..those Ford Twin Cam Elans..I owned one in England in the early 1970's..with a pair of DCOE Webber carbs and some cam tweaks, they could be brought up to two litres and 200 HP..real FAST !!
This is what dreams are made of. I wish Brian all the good fortune in the world as he gets this Pantera back on the road. That Elan S3 Coupe is going to haunt me- especially since it was in my state. It is a car I've dreamed of owning. I wish I had been there to make an offer.
Your son is a lucky man!
Glorious find.
I never undetrstand why people hoard cars only to let them rust away. Sell them all, let people restore them and enjoy them before they're all gone. The Pantera is a dream car of mine, great video!
People have plans in life that just never happen. Selling stuff also requires dealing with a lot of dicks.
That Sunbeam! I might have to make a trip to Carolina!
Wow! Brings back alot of memories. Have been in Pantera, bugeye, lotus neve owned but passenger. Many thanks🥰
18:06 The 273ci Chrysler LA engine wouldn't fit in the Tiger due to the starter location on the left side of the engine. The starter interfered with the steering and major changes would have been required to make it fit.
When you pulled out the David Vizard book at 6:22 and said "this guy used to..." .. I thought you were revealing whose car collection this was. But David is thankfully still with us I believe!
What a find !!! Amazing Pantera ! Congrats !
Great video Tom and I really liked the Colin Chapman story. One of his famous quotes as far as saving weight on cars is concerned: "There is nothing lighter than a hole"...
So cool blue was a rare color and of course the cooling tubes mentioned it's always a problem but when corrected and the radiator replaced it is an Amazing machine of art.😊
Great job and what a find! Love the Pantera and Tiger's too. Appreciate you sharing this. Shows there are still good finds out there for sure.
In my mid 20's I was service manager at a Lincoln Mercury dealership. We had 2 -3 Pantera's in stock. The dealer principle wanted me to personally drive every Lincoln and Pantera and put a sticker on the windshield that the car had my seal of approval. I drove a lot of Pantera's. They were pretty hot in the day. A fun car to drive, but not particularly comfortable as there isn't a lot of foot room. The other thing that seems odd at first it that the steering wheel isn't centered in front of you. It is more to the middle of the car. However, that doesn't take too long to get used to.
Oh thank you. This could be one of the most exciting series I've seen yet. Love old Panteras. I can't wait to see the rebuild. Amazing. Lucky Brian. :)
Fantastic video - one of your best stories. Can’t wait for part two
One of my favorite cars of all time. I can't wait to see this on Redline Rebuilds.
GREAT Episode! I'm really looking forward to seeing the progress on that Pantera. Seeing those Tigers and Elans is giving me ...feelings....
Incredible find, they are still out there. Looking forward to build …
Another great one, can't wait to see that Pantera run again!
Thank goodness it’s Tom unearthing this barn find and not Denis from Texas and I’m especially happy that his son is getting the Pantara and not a flipper used car salesman looking to turn a buck
Looking forward to the next video. Can't wait.
This episode hit all the marks...looking forward to the series. My first car was a four year old red Sunbeam Alpine so seeing the Tiger reminded me of those cars. The Elan reminded me of the day your buddy Ned (Gallaher) told to take his and see what I thought. I'm 6'5" and size 13's so I said you can't be serious...he was. I drove it fell in love and told him when I got back that "I didn't drive it, I wore it...without shoes." Best sports car? Bet your ass it is...
What a find for sure! Congrats Brian!
What a great episode Tom. One of the best.I love that Pantera and the pocket rocket Tigers.
Fantastic!!
What a find! Great to see a journey of a Barn Find, love those ones! I think my all time episdoes is the red station wagon you found and buffed the wing out, next thing it turned into the shop car for the technical college i think from memory, fantastic!
Sunbeams were ahead of their time. Roll up windows, telescopic steering, reclining seats, adjustable pedals, and front wheel disc brakes. And at 6' 3", I fit in my little Sunbeam better than I do in my Cobra.
Congratulations Tom & Bryan well deserved Guy's😍
Looking forward to the restoration videos, it's gonna be a blast😍
Great video. Love seeing a barn find on it’s way back to the road. I have a 1969 Mach 1 that was parked in 1975 and rescued in 2014. 39 years!
My adrenaline is revving. Great show.
Great find boys! It’ll be fun to watch the process.
3 Sunbeam Tigers! Wow, rare V8 amazing.
One of my all time favorite cars. I'm so happy for him.
Wow what a find. Kinda disappointed it got washed that fast. When I bring a car back that was off the road, I never let myself wash it until its running/driving. Kind of a reward to look forward too. That dust/40 year no-wash look is priceless!
Looking forward to seeing what this Pantera becomes! Also so many cool cars in that barn. I find it amazing how someone can collect cars and then they just sit there and collect dust.
My all time favourite car! Looking forward to seeing this project in it's stages of restoring/running and driving. Cheers
That David vizard mini tuning book mentioned is legendary
Great episode! Love the Sunbeam info! Good luck on the Pantera...hope to see more of it in the future!
Absolutely LOVE Panteras ... what an amazing find.
Wonderful episode! What great cars. Can't wait to see progress on the Pantera. Such a beauty!
❤ I'd love to get my hands on that Pantera, Ford power in an Italian masterpiece what's not to love?! Great video
Tom, with your knowledge and connections, it was wonderful to explore the Pantera barnfind with the team.
Fabulous find and a great connection with father and son! Great memories to add to the family history. I was checking out those glorious lightweight magnesium Campagnolos bolted to it! Love your work. Thank you.
So refreshing to see a Pantera that hasn't been customised with 32" ghetto wheels and had all it's Italian charm removed. Many Panteras end up looking like kit-cars by the time they have finished with them. Please keep this one exactly as it is.
Must be nice to have the barn find hunter for a Dad when Looking for a barn find
Fantastic content! A "time capsule" Pantera!? Are you kidding me? Plus the Sunbeam and Lotus history... Really great video guys. I can hardly wait for the follow up. 👍
What memories this brings back! Had a '73, that I bought in the 90's, same color, with the black 5 mph bumper. Bumper needed replacing and Ford said I got the very last one they had in their parts system! Car was relatively original, but if you want to actually drive it, it usually needs cooling system enhancements. Had mine restored by Pantera Performace in Aurora, Colorado, and when I got it back it was waaay better than new! Biggest mistake I ever made was to eventually sell it to make a down payment on an airplane ... but it was fun while it lasted!
I could listen to Tom talk about cars all day 👏👏👏
after watching so many videos, i feel like I know all these guys! So cool!
What an amazing find. I would love to bring this Pantera back to life!
Everyone wins ,great show,.
A hell of a find. I am so envious of you guys.
I am in the UK. The Tiger is a based on the legendary Sunbeam Alpine, a Rootes Group 2 seater sports touring car based on the Sunbeam Rapier famous for its exploits in the Monte Carlo Rally. I owned 3 of them many years ago with 2 of them being original fin tail Sunbeam Alpine., and I also had a Sunbeam Rapier. At the time I had two long departed friends, God Bless them, one had a full Shelby Cobra and the other a De Tomaso Pantera. Decades ago when I was a lad my Godfather was a guy called Alan Henderson who worked for AC Cars. Apparently I met Carroll Shelby when he came to the UK to launch the Cobra in the AC factory in Thames Ditton.
thats alot of knowledge between all of them guys
Way back in 1972, or '73, my father was working at a Lincoln/Mercury dealership.
I went into work with him one day and sitting on the showroom floor was a yellow Pantera.
14 year old me climbed in and thought how cool would this be as a first car. Forget the price but it was way over my limited budget for a 1st car.
IIRC, they were right about $10K new.
10k. I remember the ads on the back of road n track and motor trend magazines.
Fantastic episode gents! My car obsession started with a Sunbeam my dad owned and worked on by the side of the garage. Really it was my little playhouse when I was five until he sold it in 1969. Across the street was a yellow Mustang Mach 1 that I thought was a spaceship, and when I was 12, I saw my first Porsche 911 Turbo while caddying at the local country club. And so a real lusting for cars began.....lol.
If you want to know what the front of that Bugeye Sprite looks like, Davin has one hanging on the wall of the Hagerty Redline Rebuilds shop.
It's cool to know they're still cars out there waiting to be found. A lot of the owners are older and don't fiddle around with the internet.
Great barn find. Would love to see the journeys of the Lotus Elans too!
Great find in that Pantera, I look forward to seeing it restored and back on the road. FYI in the UK we call those wee cars a 'Frog-Eyed Sprite', but 'bug' works too over there. As an aside, Jim Clark was a neighbour of mine when I was a young kid ... and yet to learn about cars!
Loved seeing you all in one video. Amazing.
Wow, nice to see the whole gang!
Wonderful story! I love all these cars. I’m sure most are destined to be back on the road.
Does my heart some good to see Davin and Tom collaborating on something again, especially after what sort
of went askew with the old racecar out of Virginia....
I remember seeing this car back at Sports Car Salvage in 2006 when I was 12 years old… such a special car. The junk yard had 2 wrecked Panteras on their roof too
I was more excited about the Sunbeam and Lotus collection than the Pantera. What an amazing find!
