When all the late night wars were going on, thats the thing i think people just kept missing. I love Letterman, love Conan, but Jay was the guy you wanted to see on your tv after a long day and week of all the other bs going on in the world. He wasnt overly cynical or mean spirited, he was just a good guy and that came across on tv.

I’ve met Jay a couple of times long ago when I was a student, he graciously gave us a tour of his garage. He wanted to rearrange some furniture so my classmate and I helped him move it around, afterwards he disappeared for a few minutes and came back with a tray of cokes and snacks for us, apologizing that he didn’t have anything else. we were students, no one special. He is the most polite, down to earth person. Funny thing, I’m a teacher now and my class exhibited their projects at the Makerfaire, Conaan O’Brien stopped by and spent half an hour speaking with them and genuinely inquiring about their projects, great guy, Another celebrity that hasn’t lost touch.

Meeting a celebrity doesn't make him a good guy....or his opinions 'right.'
Jay Leno, another California brainwashed elitist. He is dead wrong on the economy....and of course everything seems 'fine' to him.....he is worth hundreds of millions and lives a lavish lifestyle with no concern about the cost of ANYTHING! He is far removed from his working class roots....sad to see him support a guy as corrupt as Joe Biden and his family of criminals. Leno is another shill for Leftists.

He did this as well as an entertainer but so does everyone else who contributes in their own way to help us build a better society.

One of my best friends from high schools dad was an antiques/ car collector/trader and when he died of cancer, Leno came to the funeral, all the way up here in Canada, to a little unknown town to most of the country, let alone the US. All the years I knew him, he never bragged or said anything about who he sold cars to, only after his death I come to find out. Jay is an incredibly grateful and humble man, just a regular car guy that happened on good fortune that allowed him to live out his car crazy fantasy like the rest of us gear heads would have given the opportunity like he's had.

In the week after 9/11, Jay's wife finally got to fly into the Burbank Airport. Jay pulled up to the curb but was told by. the Glendale officers he needed to move along (security was very tight). Before he left he asked if these officers had eaten, These officers had no place to buy food as the restaurants in the airport were closed. Jay came back with pizzas for all these officers.....Jay is the most understated thoughtful person. I know all this because I know one of the Glendale officers who was there.

A few years ago I was at Johnny Rocket in Encino, with my son, who was 15 or 16 at the time. On A Sunday lunch time, Mr. Leno and some of his motorbike buddies came and they sat at an outside table. When we finished our meal, my son said I want to take a photo of him! I said go up to him and ask him first, before taking the photo. He walked out and I was watching him from inside waiting for finish paying our check, all of a sudden I saw Mr. Leno get up took my son's phone, gave it to one of his friends, stood by my son with his hand on his shoulder, and his friend took the photo. Let impeach Trump on collusion with Russia and for two years they study it on your money, but they drop it and impeach him on a phone call from 8 days earlier as if they knew it wasn't about accomplishing something that matters. Then Nancy Pelosi screams out "We'll impeach him twice! He'll be the first President to be impeached twice!" No talk about the crime. This ought to make Democrats think more about Democrats being wicked than Trump. Then charged wtih 97 crimes and innocent until proven guilty, but he does get guilty of evaluating his properties higher than what they are worth. By that logic all people owning anything are guilty for don't you list your house at more cause you can always lower the price to sell it? If it is a logically large purchase, as anything Trump owns in NYC would be a large price, you would have your own personal evaluation done. How about that? Democrats are stupid. Children don't need chemical castration. Ukraine has a border you care about so why don't you care about America's borders. Finally, children are beheaded and minors are fucked. So do you support Israel or what I just brought up from Palestine? Read Isaiah 14:28-31 and know Palestine whole and the whole world judged by fire, so think hard about your cause in Palestine even more than all the rest.

taking his final breath, severely wounded and certainly mangled on the side of the road, Humphry, my 8-year-old German Shepherd lay. The blue Subaru Impreza that hit him is sitting in the middle of the lane, holding up traffic, dented hood, red liquid running down the logo. Three cars back, in a $20,000,000 McLaren F1 was a man that my whimpering wife and I noticed (how could you not recognize that chin!). Jay Leno put his 4 ways on, opened his door, got out of his car, and came to comfort me and my wife as Humphry ascends to the heavens. Jay ran back to his car to get his keys, seemingly to leave, but instead brought a moose plush toy for Humphry, before Humphry pushed out one good bark before visiting Jesus. I'll never forget the compassion Jay Leno showed to me and my wife in this trying moment!

Every time I try to tell this story I almost cry. My parents would have done the same thing for me. I felt a real connection to his story. I grew up in Wintersville, Ohio. Next to Steubenville. I never watched Jay Leno on the Tonight Show and only in the last few years have I become aware of him through his Jay’s Garage TH-cam channel so I didn’t have a very good understanding of what this man was all about but thanks to this interview, I can now say that I think I know what is under his hood and it is a damn nice engine down there, hitting on all its cylinders, and maintaining a perfect timing despite all the years that have passed.
I also got to see more of what seems to drive Piers Morgan and I think what I was witnessing was a man trying to evoke a sharp or divisive response at almost every turn, poking and prodding with pointy instruments with little regard for how the guy across from him might be feeling. It is not that Mr. Morgan was unaware of Mr. Leno’s feelings, indeed he seemed quite cognizant of those emotions but rather that his MO is to try and create a stir, a drama even when it was quite clear that Jay was not going to go there.
In the end, about Piers Morgan, I came away feeling like “This is not the kinds person that I would want to get to know better.”
As for Jay Leno, well that guy strikes me as a soul who really knows himself and someone who feels comfortable in his own skin, even if some of it isn’t really his own skin. Nice to get to know ya, Jay. Stay well and don’t let an engine fall on your face! You’re one of the good ones!

Palance was talking about a movie he'd made with Kurt Russell and Sly Stallone....Palance didn't care for Stallone and went on and on about him. I could see by Jay's face that he was thinking this was the last show he'd co-host for Carson because Palance would not shut up no matter how Jay tried to change the conversation around. It was absolutely hilarious and probably the best episode of the Tonight Show I've ever seen and it trumped the Hugh Grant episode by a long shot...Bless You Jay, you've shown your love to the world, shared your talent with us and made your parents proud!

I remember Lenos Charlie Sheen story, he made fun of the limo trouble story in air and had Rob Schneider come as Charlie Sheen. It was hilarious and I still remember that episode 25-30 years later

"a great American treasure?" Aren't you exaggerating a lil bit? He's just a funny guy with extremely shallow opinions about American politics and lotsa money, which he spends 0n expensive toys. Not a bad fellow, but an "American treasure? LOL

Micaja I don’t know what’s shallow about a tv personality willing to tel the truth about an insurrectionist, he was a lot more mild than most on Humpty Dumpty , maybe u believe his lies but most people can see right through the most embarrassing moment in our country’s history , trying to upend the very constitution that tjis country was built on . The only shallow one is DJT

I dislike the inevitability of human aging. It brings not only personal sorrow but also a poignant awareness as I witness the gradual aging of my parents and those I hold in high regard. Despite this, I am grateful that they are still a part of our lives.

Great interview. As a 1970's huge fan of Johnny it took me awhile to get used to you Jay but you finally did win me over. We're both a lot older and more mature now and I so love your common sense answers to Piers's questions. I loved your response to the giving a complement to a women with a pretty dress. I've never cared for pant suits so when I saw the young woman at the eye doctors office I told her that I liked her dress. It looks very feminine. OMG If looks could kill!! I felt so ashamed of myself for offending her but I meant well. It's such a different world than what we grew up with.

Piers is a smug, pompous, arrogant schmuck. I love Jay, but he was kissing the left's ass. There is no way he can be a "fan" of biden. Biden is a corrupt, incompetent, racist, opportunistic, self serving establishment hack that goes against everything Jay seems to beleive in. Jay knows the media and Hollywood will not tolerate anyone speaking against their agenda! I really like Jay, but there is no way he is a leftist. I get it though, you have to play the game to survive.

Plus let's be real, he didn't really work that hard for what he has.. Leno is a perfect example of show business and capitalism(it has nothing to do with your talent or how hard you work) it's about being a narcissist having no loyalty and backstabbing, stealing whenever you can that is how you become super successful in a Capitalism system.. What a Joke.
