Hi Sam, I have not finished watching your video yet, I am sure it is gonna be a great vid as always. Just one correction, though: As far as I am aware, all the ST Estates come with non-adaptive dampers, there is no CCD. So changing the driving mode does not do anything to the ride quality. I think some very early MK4 Estates might have had adaptive dampers, at least some reviweres mentioned that...but since the introduction of the MK4.5, I am 100% all Estates came with the standard ST suspension set-up.
Thanks for letting me know. I actually think the Auto ST Estate owner mentioned this to me also so that's my mistake if it is not available on the estate. The car did feel compliant enough though without the adaptive dampers. So I guess the dampers are available on all ST Hatches as standard but for the estate its passive only?
CCD was standard on early MK4 hatch-es for sure, but after a while it was made part of the Performance Pack. So it was possible to order hatches with passive dampers but since almost all people ordered the PP you would be hard pressed to find an MK4 hatch with passive dampers. The content of the PP was a bit messed up after the introduction of the facelift, though, at some point in many EU countries you could not order the PP anymore only CCD dampers as an optional extra, rev. matching., track mode, shift light etc became standard on all MK4.5 manual cars (hatch and estate alike) - except the adaptive dampers of course. To give yet another twist to the story, as per current pricelist you cannot order the PP for the hatch anymore, neither in the UK nor in basically any other EU country which has an updated pricelist dated from 2024, so pretty much the adaptive dampers are gone from the hatch too. The bright side of this that many people were complaining about the too firm damper settings in Sport (on cars with CCD), now you can use Sport and all of its benefits (like rev.matching) in a car which has a bit more compliant damping. The down side? Despite you have Track mode, a car with a relatively compliant but passive dampers will not be a good fit for track use. @@SamAustin

Love the Chanel mate where are Ford going im a ford customer of 38 years . They closed my local dealer who had franchise for 87 years and I had nothing but first class service from them . As a former owner of two escort cosworths and about a dozen fiestas my final purchase last year was the 1.5 puma ST with all the options including limited slip Differential. Fabulous car I’m not sure if I will ever purchase Ford again if you ever get the chance to drive an escort Cosworth jump at it I’ve driven several focuses over the years and yes they had more power but handling and chassis they couldn’t hold a candle to the escort cosworth it has to be my fav Ford of all time . Thank you for the positive feedback. I love my Fast Ford's also and I am worried about the current generation of Ford performance cars. I am unsure what their strategy is and currently other than the Focus ST/Edition/Track Pack which I imagine will be discontinued next year potentially, there is nothing which particularly gets me excited about Ford from a performance point of view. I would love to try an Escort Cosworth one day for sure 👍

Hoping to get one before end of year, local dealer reckoned no chance of obtaining one but there is stock out there.

Fantastic video Sam. I have a golf R estate currently but looking to change soon as this is a very viable option, especially considering what you get spec wise for the money.
Question for you, does the estate get the same pops etc when pushing it as the hatch?
Thank you for the positive feedback. I am a big fan of the Golf R estate and for me it is very hard to find a better alternative in the estate world. The ST is arguably more fun to drive with the option of the manual, and auto too, along with being front wheel drive. In auto form the ST does not make any pops. However, in manual form it does make a great noise from the exhaust I have to say. Well worth trying one out for sure to see what you think and I can see why it is in your considerations as a fast and fun estate car 😊

I have a 2020 ST Estate. Race pack was discontinued in the Estate prior to me buying in Nov 2020. Has it been re-introduced? Why would you have race mode on an estate? 2020 had Recaro seats. I believe that the pops and bangs sounds are engineered and false. Great car though.
Just got my manual mean green estate on 12th april! Brand new car, fully speced and just got 1000km now on it. Love this car, such a cool eyecatcher 😍 It replaced my Mercedes E400 estate. Don‘t miss the 3.5Litre V6 at all. The Mercedes was faster and smoother but the Focus is so much more fun to drive! The B&O soundsystem, the pan-roof, the enginesound, rev match…. Just everything fits this car and the look of it

It's a great car, just added the mountune M330 to my Mean Green estate and the difference is incredible, with the full mountune Carbon Induction kit aswell 👌

The pan roof is lovely, not only do you get a black roof, but you can look through it from the inside. A stranger had a look over my Orange the other day, poor lad almost was lost for words when he looked up and could see the sky, he wasn't expecting that.
I love the HUD, it is all too easy to blow away the speed limits, the HUD lets me see my speed alongside the limit without taking my eyes off the road. It is a wonder they are not obligatory. Have to say don't like the 4.5, but of course I would say this wouldn't I 😂 No CD player as an option I think, also they did away with the overhead glasses holder, that was it for me.
Now put the M330 on it and get a new air filter. Also, if you really want to press on, don't be afraid to flat foot it every now and then to get that twin scroll spinning.

The glasses holder is still there, however only if you spec for the pan.roof. I am not sure if the pre-facelift cars without the panroof ever had them? Anyway I have a gripe with the pan.roof: although it looks super cool, the sunshade Ford used is a flimsy mesh, not a proper solid panel as most manufacturers do it. Sunshade drawn over your head just felt weird to me when I sat in test cars which had the panroof, it is almost as if the roof is emitting some diffuse light over the cabin, all he time. I guess this is the point, dunno why but it bothered me...whenever I looked up, I felt like the car does not have a roof :D But perhaps more importantly, the fact that sun can shine through the mesh blind every time, during hot summer days when the sun blasts you with all of its might it can get hot in there, it is literally heating your head. This is what I experienced and heard others mentioned it as a minor gripe. Perhaps this is not that big of an issue in the UK with less sunny days compared to central or southern Europe, but yeah, just dont understand why Ford did not use a proper solid blind instead of this mesh thingy. So this coupled with the hefty prce tag for it, safe to say it was an easy decision for me not to go for the pan.roof. Func fact: In same countries you can order the ST with black roof and mirrors from the factory, so you can have black roof without the pan.roof.
@@peterszeles2321 Ah thanks I didn't know this about the pan roof and the glasses holder. The blind is fine for here in the UK even on those more frequent days when we have 30c+ 🙂

I’m 6ft3 and can sleep overnight very comfortably with the seats down perfectly flat
What other hot hatch can do this at this price range
Revo can power it up to Audi R/S levels, fantastic vehicles 👍
Thank you for the positive feedback! Ah that sounds fantastic. I am still yet to try out a Revo car and I love the sound of the sleeper look in dark grey. From the outside to some it looks like a normal focus but it offers so much more. For sure it takes the ST to a new level 👍

I dont really understand, so is this has the track pack or not? If I knyow well, the rev matching comes with the track pack?
No track pack with the estates. It is not an option. Rev matching is part of all Focus ST's and does not require the track pack from my understanding.
@@SamAustin Thank you. Im just looking for to buy one, without track pack, and it seemed to not have rev matching without it. Maybe here in hungary differs from the UK. I think theres no estate here, 2 to 4 months to arrive. We will see :)

Not wanting to put the campers on what is clearly a lovely car but the Manual, Estate ST with mean green paint (or any option paint) put the retail price to over £4OK. Worth it as a car almost certainly but luxury car tax is a pain.
Ouch …. Dampers …not Campers … although that sounds more fun..! It is the panoramic roof that finally puts to over £40K … without the Campers.
Yes it is worth mentioning about the luxury car tax...….sadly quite a few cars tip over this mark now a days 🤔
Yep. Without green paint just okay, as you deduct 1st year road tax from RRP and £40k ceiling, but if RRP goes up before delivery (even if you pay current agreed price), the taxman gets you 😢

Anyone else having issues with their battery just depleting? Ours is more for weekend pursuits and not a lot of miles done in 6 months but battery down to 35% had it topped up at dealer 3 days ago and under 80% as stop start stopped again
Yep all the time everyone. Turn off start stop and upgrade the battery. I was told give her a solid hours drive, not town and not stop start, every week irrespective. I got myself a solar panel trickle charger off amazon and leave that plugged in all the time now. Also told it takes twenty minutes to charge up for a single turnover to start the engine.
Great vid yet again, Question..does the manual 4.5 Estate really make that much more of a better noise (and pops & bangs) compared to the Auto? If so, Im wondering whether it's just down to the actual Estate vs Manual mapping & whether a Mountune, Dreamscience or Revo map might make it sound better on the Auto. Would love to hear anyones views on this or whether anyone reading this with a 4.5 Estate has has there's mapped??
PS - I've currently got a 2014 Mountune ST Estate, used it as a daily for nearly 10yrs..it's been an amazing family wagon but now time for an upgrade. Narrowed it down to new ST Estate or pre owned 340i/M340i Touring, BMW obviously more money (and expensive tech to go wrong!) and smaller boot for our Bullmastiff!!
Thank you! Yes this could well be an estate thing as I have not tried the hatch in auto form although I would be suprised if this was the case. The manual does make a great noise with pops and bangs whereas the auto is a bit more subtle and only really burbles which perhaps makes sense given the character of an auto. Tough choice between an M340i Touring and an ST Estate but if you loved your MK3 you should like the MK4.5.....its a great car. Worth trying it all out though for yourself along with the BMW before making the call 👍
