- Can a 410PS Stage 2 tune by REVO on a Mk4 Ford Focus ST make what is already a great car awesome ? Turns out it can !
Before I take the car to find some great roads I talk through the engineering and design that has gone into the hardware and software of this modification. The Stage 2 upgrade includes air intake, intercooler and engine map. This car also has the upgraded lightweight wheel from Revo and the Revo by Alcon brake upgrade. To finish the job off the car is also running a Milltek GPF back sports exhaust.

I’ve said it on numerous occasions, that there is no need for expensive super cars anymore, these hot hatches as in RS,s civic tyre r,s and golf R,s are quick enough plus you can bring out the family and do your shopping in them.
They’re statements now for media and fashion
If there is one thing that always pisses me off, it’s exhaust pops that have been “engineered in”. They do absolutely nothing for the performance and detract from any deep engine note…
Couldn't agree more. The overrun wouldn't be for us in general, however, the market majority does like them. They are only in the Sport and Track modes😊

What kind of boost pressure does it go to? And also is it possible to maintain the stock overrun sound with this stage 2 pack?
You absolutely hit the nail on the head in respect of the Mk4 ST over the Mk3 RS. Being in my early 50s I’ve always been into the performance Fords but nowadays I want a modern family Ford (with performance) without it looking like a ‘mid-life crisis meets boy racer’ purchase - great as the Mk3 RS is. This beautifully subtle-looking ST (with the full Revo package) seems to tick all the boxes for me - especially in white.

Yeh totally agree at 50. Had a few fast and not so fast (made fast lol) ford's. These days got a mk3 focus stline 1l ecoboost but want more torque and thought the mk3 st exhaust setup, and the RS looked too boyracer / tacky. Even considered the puma st and golf gti but I do like the sleeper mk4 focus st the most 👍

Loving your review, once you get past the acceleration, it's about how a car goes about its work around the speed limit on B roads. So is handling and steering response more important? I love keeping the speed up through flowing bends.
Really like this car and I would definitely leave wheels standard (altho I love the wheels) and no revo badge for ultimate stealth 😍👍Great review the smile says it all 😃
Great bunch of guys at Revo Daventry. They did a stage 1 on my Mk3 Leon Cupra 290, at short notice I might add, and an excellent uplift in performance it brings. Now considering a stage 2 with very similar hardware upgrades to the Focus ST, which brings it up to a similar output as the Focus, 400bhp. The mid range is already explosive, lord only knows what it would like! Thanks for the great video and channel 👍

Stage 2 on the Cupra 290 is amazing and the perfect power output for it imo :)
Nice one Pete, great vlog as always. 130bhp more, is incredible just for just a stage 2! Looks and sounds amazing, a proper sleeper. I would take off the revo badge, and stickers, make it look stock and smoke everything! 😂

What a car that is before the upgrades with the upgrades a different animal altogether. I had to re subscribe tonight as it said I was not a subscriber. Hope I am the only one or your numbers will be all wrong. Looking forward to the Audi test you hinted at on Instagram. My Mini is off to the car park in the sky I think, a new addition to the family is coming along with 400 bhp

Great review mate and I love the turbo flutter! I’ve been down the road of modding and it is fun but as I’ve grown older I’ve learnt to buy something engineered to be the power you want and handle the way you want out of the box. The lsd should of been fitted before the power upgrade so you can deploy the power quicker out of the bends and to help in the wet too.

I too like to have at LEAST the upgrades that my prior vehicles had , my 2003 Nissan Sentra Spec IV had a very good LSD and it is VERY Hard not to have one now ! The difficulty of Pulling my small boat up a very slippery boat ramp is just ONE of its drawbacks !

I have a fiesta st edition and I got revo stage 2 plus I have the quaife as standard and I have revo brakes on order for mine to. Revo do great maps used them for yrs on different cars. My son has on his fiesta st mk7 to stage 1 still great

Great vlog as usual Ped. Amazing, as it looks and feels like a proper grown up uber hatch. However, better than a Focus RS with 4wd and drift mode! Drift mode or torque steer? I know which one would get my pulses racing more. Anyhow 400 bhp in a family hatch! Bonkers😂😂

Brilliant. I still miss bits of my Mk3 RS. That was only mountune’d to 375bhp, but was a lot of fun. Only thing that the Mk4 is missing is 4wd. That made the focus so sure footed.

@@PetrolPed the mk4 is definitely a leap forward from the mk3. Even standard it’s performance figures aren’t much different to the MK3 RS. Ford somehow manage to make a standard family car fun, where others struggle.

Great review as always and nicely driven but I think I would worry taking that car out on wet or greasy roads and the turbo flutter would irritate me after a while.Well engineered but ultimately not for me.
As you know, we never got the MK4 Focus/ST in the US - too bad, as it looks like a big improvement over the MK3, even in stock trim
410Bhp Focus? That's nuts! Focus is a great platform for that, more than capable. Agree, LSD would be a good addition - is Revo thinking about doing that?

Hi, nice video and thanks for the great detail. Just a query... why an St and not an rs? Is it a buy in cost reason or what? Is the performance rs not on a different page to an St?
I think there is a bigger market. Cheaper entry cost, more headroom for sensible performance increase and maybe a bigger market 👍
I was thinking about a RS or a new ST in Mountune Spec, but you seem to have a talent for selling cars.
It looks more interesting to have a Revo ST, tough not sure wheter it beats a RS, then I mean driving pleasure.

As an every day driver, the MK4 wins every time...... The adjustable modes means you can slacken everything off and your 90yr old granny could drive it to the shops without either wetting herself or needing a hip replacement and spinal traction.... Pop it into sport, everything sharpens up, but is still supple enough for UK roads.... TBH, track mode is a bit too severe ... The e-lsd comes into its own but the ride is harsh, much like a MK3 RS.... I've only gone for a 330bhp Dreamscience tune but along a B road, in sport mode, it's a proper weapon... All in all, it's a pretty much perfect compromise between everyday usability and trackday rocket....
Happy to leave that one for the youngsters.

Maybe a naive question, but doesnt the various stage work put the various engine components under more stress and increase the wear and tear of said componets? Anyway enjoyed watching the video. Petrol Ped will you be getting the factory ST Track Pack for your ST?
It’s does but at this level still well within the capability of the engine. It would however invalidate your warranty 👍
Can you put a timing chain on a ecoboom instead of the the fluffy belt they have.

You mention at 13:40 a LSD would add to this car, but to my knowledge it comes with a eLSD as stock, am I missing something?

I gather UK speak for HP = Horse Power and 410 HP = 205 kW
not bad for a FWD hatch I recall the Vauxhall Astra VXR being quoted as an over powered Hot hatch but that was only 290 PS in 2018.
Have Revo played with the Vauxhall??
PS or PferdStarke is the metric measure of horsepower. It is the equivalent of 98.6% of one HP 👍
Good evening. What a great car. All the bangs, farts and chirps would annoy the hell out of me! Please excuse my ignorance but are they necessary? Can you get the same performance without and are they just for the boy racer. I would love to have one but that would be a show stopper for me. Keep up the good work.
I’m not sure how much the pops and bangs are in the map. If so I’m sure that could be removed. The Milltek does give you some overrun noises 👍
With the standard exhaust in normal mode, absolutely zero ASBO noises.... In Sport or Track, there is a hint and the odd cough but certainly nowhere near the level of the vid.... When choosing the tune to increase power from standard, with Dreamscience at least, you have to specify if you want the overrun with pops, bangs etc, but even then, they only really become apparent in Sport and track and you can specify anything from 0 to 2.5 seconds in 0.5 second increases.... I have a 330 bhp tune, black mk4 ST and unless people know what to look for, they could take it for a 1.5l st line - until there's a gap I the oncoming traffic anyway 😂😂
Interesting to hear that torque steer is not too bad, 400hp through the front wheels is a lot. Wonder what it's like on a wet road without al LSD.

Just to qualify something, it does have an lsd, it's not mechanical, it is a borg Warner ediff.. a set of clutches on the drive shafts, with torque sensing technology.. its a shame Ford didn't invest in revonuckle, hyperstrut, dual-axsis technology which is a very sophisticated front suspension to reduce torque steer, Honda (Type R) and Renault (Megan RS Trophy/Cup), Ford (RS Focus MK2) did that.
It needs a Quaife ATB like the Fiesta ST 👍
@@PetrolPed there is something to be said by a mechanical LSD.. my little GRMN has a toren diff.. its a massive difference..
Heard from other tuners that the standard turbo can reliably only handle 370ish bhp so wonder how long before the turbo blows...?

@@nitrooxide2521 i know one measured with 366 hp at a Revo pro dealer. Next one is teased at the same dealer. We will see what the next one will have. But me and a lot of people think the promised figures are not real or not reliably with the stock Downpipe/Cat and gpf

What's the point?
Great cars but better than an RS, it isn't. The AWD system is so good when you really push it and that's missing on the mk4.
For me the Mk4 ST stock is a better car down a B road. That’s not saying the RS isn’t awesome 😜
Relying on AWD systems to boost a drivers ability is not recommended. Remember we must always be able to stop on our own side of the road within the distance you can see to be clear.
I am thinking of ordering a new st focus and giving it to revo I have had 2 mk3 rs cars .

The RS is an RS . Can't compare imo.
Its Not about power or looks .
It's about the rich heritage of Rallye Sport 😉.

The ST is cheaper to get into and arguably has more scope for tuning. I’d also say the Mk4 ST is pretty close to the Mk3 RS even though it has AWD 👍
I've owned a mk1 focus rs, mk2 focus st, now currently a mk4 focus st and while I concede the rs does make you feel special when driving the difference between them is so small these days

I was wondering the same. I’ve a Puma ST with less than half the power and even with the LSD, the torque steer is epic at full beans on an uneven road.
@@kevinmills5293 I got a stock Focus ST Edition and there's virtually no torque steer at all. You can feel a tiny little twitch in the steering wheel, but only really if you're looking for it. The old Mk3 had crazy torque steer.
To sum it up. Performance is great. Revo "Enhanced overrun" feature extremly annoying
Personally, I find all that chuffing & banging to be ridiculous! It would drive me nuts in a few minutes, never mind drawing the attention of the boys in blue.

@@danielwoodland9576 Bought mine at the end of 2019 brand new for £26,000 ( £300 month PCP ) that runs out in a couple of months. Planning to buy it outright for the 16,500 balloon payment and then possibly look to do a stage 1 upgrade. I have loved the car, it is such a great thing to drive and I came from a Mark 3.5 ST that I had from 2017 till 2019.
Only thing I would say is that used they are silly money. Mine with the 15k miles is almost £22,000 at WeBuyAnyCar..........!!!!!!!
