I am just holding my brand new XT5 in my hands and was hoping for some inspiration on YT. But this video not only truly inspires me but actually relaxed me totally - thanks to the great tone of your calming voice and the curated back ground music. Really appreciated!
OMG that drive lock thing is a life saver! I can't remember how many times I've had my camera (X-T3 before and now X-T5) in the bag and the drive mode dial had moved to something other than single shot and I only noticed it after taking one shot. This video is really helpful, thank you for making it and thank you for using such a chill background music that makes taking on the information easier with the calm environment.
I've been shooting with Fuji for many years now - but I've learned a lot again today! Above all, I think your tip on how to block functions is fantastic (even if it doesn't work consistently, e.g. not with the dials). I'm definitely in favor of a simple, functional camera that doesn't get in my way when I'm shooting, but supports me. Thanks for this and the many other excellent videos! Greetings from Switzerland.
I didn't even know I could lock the still/movie and shooting mode dials. It drove me mad evrytime these dials moved when changing my exposure setting. Thank you so much
This video has been immensely helpful! The combination of AF-C and tracking AF works really well on my X-T3. I won't have to fiddle with my focus point on the street anymore. Thanks so much :)
i just have one question: when you continue to press on the button does the focus point stay in one (as faizal) or does it divide into mani little point?
One thing I really like about Fuji is how you can turn on or off information around the screen. A few weeks ago I almost switched to Sony and one of the things I immediately missed was this ability. They do have a button to switch between view modes, some with LOTS of info and some with minimal info. But the ability to just turn off individual things is so nice!
Really good tip tolock the exposure compensation dial, willdo that on all my fujis. So many times Ive taken the camera out of the bag and that button have been turned by accident. Agree, with the idea of having a physical lock on that button. I have tried to setup my cameras similar to each other and I tend to run out of buttons. That D pad button is my favourite,
The X-T30 II is a completely different beast, with the dials being an issue from the start. It doesn't hall all three dials, so, I had to look for videos to find out how to set it to Aperture Priority. However, the X-H1 I have, is easy to work with, despite only have 2 dials.
Nice video as usual Faizal. I tend to shoot in the same modes - especially aperture priority however you are missing a trick by setting shutter speed to auto and then set the base shutter speed in the auto ISO setting - let it bottom out at around 1/250 (or whatever) and then your only variable is ISO. It will only drop below that if there is too little light and the ISO has maxxed.
Faizal, really excellent, thought-provoking video. I’ve just added an X-T50 (gave up waiting for an X100VI😀) to go alongside my OM-1 and your suggestions will make it easier to adapt to the new camera.
One of the things that I do for the ISO range is set the Minimum shutter speed to 200-250 so it never drops below that usually helps with the motion blur.
This is not true for Fuji 'x' range of cameras and Auto ISO. The camera calculates the settings and uses the Minimum shutter speed as a rough guide. It will first try to use the maximum ISO setting, but if this is not enough, it will then lower the the shutter speed, no matter what you have set before. The only way to bypass that is to use manual shutter speed, or a more suitable lens.
Cool tips! I never understood what the point of back button focusing is? What is the benefit, really? You still need to press the shutter button, so why using two different buttons instead of a single one?
Sure! Essentially it means when that is on, the "spot" of where the camera meters for exposure would be the same exact spot as wherever the focus point is. Having it off means they are separate so for example I can meter for my highlights and then if I use tracking AF, my meter point won't move with the focus point. It will still be on the highlights. Hope that makes a bit more sense :)
In Semi-Automatic, you changed to Spot Metering, then pressed the AE-L lock button and snapped the shutter, but you didn’t seem to press the AF-L button for back button focus, how come?
Hey Faizal, love your videos 🫶🏼 Wanting to start my photography journey and not sure what camera to purchase, what would you recommend for a beginner? Thanks!
Great video, thanks! But one thing: You set AF + MF ON for a reason. But if you do that, focus priority switches back to release priority, which can provoke more unsharp photos. I think, this should be mentioned for people, who are wondering about unsharp photos then.
How pointless would it be to manually adjust the focus and then have the camera not release? You choose manual focus when you might deliberately misfocus or the AF might be slower or unsuitable in a situation.
Hey Faizal, i would like to ask you if theres any, more affordable digital camera and lens what you recommend for streetphotography? Really love your style!
Nice video, Faizal! Very simple and straighforward. Even though the fewer buttons on the xe4 seemed a negative at first, I find I'm focussing more on the aspect of taking pictures instead of dealing with dials/buttons. I'm also very curious how you set up your xt5 for video. Are you planning to do a video on that too?
I think down the road once I've got enough experience using the Fuji for video I will make another on how I've set it up to go between photo and video. Still a bit of a noob when it comes to video on Fuji haha
Hi Faizal, thnx for the tips how you set-up ur XT5 👍🏼 You mentioned that you use Astia in ur liveview ánd you use it in LR. I also like Astia, how do you make sure that Astia is the setting for ur liveview and how do you apply it in LR when you shoot in RAW? So mainly…what is ur workflow concerning getting the “Astia-look”? Furthermore I don’t have presets (yet) in LR, how/where do I get them in LR, or are they already somewhere in LR? Thnx!
If you shoot RAW on the Fuji, You will have access to all of the film simulations in Lightroom via the color profiles menu! I recommend doing a google search of Lightroom Color Profile Film Simulation and you should find a detailed tutorial on how to find it :)
Hi John. Film sim option are at the top in the profile setting, lr as standard use adobe profile which is a little rough around the edges , is you click there you will scroll down and see camera matching and all Fuji film sims are in there… better still is go into preferences and you can select an option for LR to apply camera profile on import, so it respects your choice in camera so on import it apply what ever film simulation you have set in camera. Capture one has done this automatically since version 11 but Lightroom just does its own thing. I would advise a trial of capture one pro as it handles Fuji files better, LR is catching up but still better

I know you just flip the switch to get into video mode, but I'm curious if there are other settings that need to be adjusted before you can start shooting
Excuse me, my X-T5 is in the AF-C continuous focus mode. When the shutter is half-pressed, the brightness of the camera screen will be relatively dim. When the shutter is released, it will be restored. Is there a setting error? Do you have the same situation, thank you for your answer.
I see you carry your X-T5 on a strap by your side sometimes. Have you considered the Fuji EC-XT S eye cup so it doesn’t press into your body that much?
Excellent video ! It's impressive how everything it thoughfully set. That helps me, even if this if for my X100V :) Thanks a lot for the Debussy's Arabesque at the end. One of my fav composers ever.

Great video Faizal, even though I don't own a Fuji anymore I came for the pictures and there are, like you said, some things that can carry over different systems so it's always interesting to see how other photographers set their tools. Keep up the excellent work!
Hi I have an xt3 and I have a video focusing question I want to be able to Use touch to focus while recording video but when in manual mode it wont let me. When I change focusing to S mode I can touch to fucus while recoding but cant see any focus peaking I want to be able to use Focus peaking and touch to focus while recording in 1 mode, how can I achieve this? Hey! Great work. I have a beginners level question, I don't have fujifilm yet (blame the budget) but I'd just like to know if you use any grid when taking pictures and if so which one do you use. Thanks and I love your photography and videos.
Great tips! I’ve had my xt5 for about a month and I’m still tweaking the setting but this has helped me get a lot closer to something I’ll settle on. Quick question… do you shoot with your glasses on? I’ve found that it’s actually easier to see the viewfinder with the eyepiece removed from the camera. It allows me to get closer to it while wearing glasses. With it on, I need to be at the perfect angle so the edges aren’t masking the image. Curious if you’ve tried this or have any thoughts?
I decided to buy the XT30 II after weeks of consideration as my very first camera and your videos helped so much! May I ask which lens you would advise for the start? The camera comes in two "Kits", one with the XC 15-45 mm lens and one with the 18-55mm. I would love to use the camera for my upcoming trip to England to shoot villages, houses, streets, churches, the beach. As I am just starting, I don't want to switch lenses all the time. I was recommended to go with the 18-55mm (but they did not have the kit with the 15-45mm in stock :-)). Do you think the 15-45mm would be ok to start or would I never forgive myself afterwards for missing the "better" option 18-55mm? Or would you recommend any other lens over the two mentioned above? Any advise would be so much appreciated! Thank you!
I got it purely for video and travel and it's been a pleasant surprise. I do wish it had the aperture ring like my other Fujis. That's probably the only downside so far
I’ve noticed that my X-T5 has a buffer of about a second after each shot when in single shot, so I just keep it in Continuous Low and there’s no buffer. Anyone else have this issue?
I don't get it. You actually propose to use 3 buttons (AF, AEL, Shutter) together with spot metering as a point and shoot method, instead of just half pressing the shutter button to focus and lock exposure. Why? Using the back buttons for autofocus and exposure lock is a more complicated procedure for street/point and shoot photography. You also say that you use program mode but your camera is on manual mode on the screen...
Great video! How do you feel about the massive file sizes for RAW from the X-T5? Honestly that’s what’s holding me back upgrading from the X-T2 (I have so many full hard drives 😂)
try switching the raw file format to 'lossless compressed' in the camera menu, this can shave off plenty of MB from each file without sacrificing quality
What’s interesting is everyone loves that button focus but I don’t so I don’t use it. I’m still that squeeze focus and take Guy. It is been my weigh so I won’t use back button focus but many people swear by it I actually gave it ago and didn’t like it. So I don’t use it. Majority of work I do is landscape photography so I don’t really need to do Back but in focus anyway as I’m off and having the camera on a tripod and then I’m using a trigger remote, but even then when I do Street Photography, I’m not a fan of Back button … He just doesn’t work for me. I never use auto ISO either as I feel the camera doesn’t choose the right eye so is often way too high for my liking.
Fuji users tends to over dramatize their camera settings lens and camera type way too much, too much focused on the gear instead of photography itself.
Why do you speak with a grilled voice ? Actually nobody talk like that, it's an affectation of the voice used by annoying teenagers and rich people. Why ?

Yea! In the iso menu settings, it should be the 3rd option for “min shutter speed”

X-T5 is one sexy camera 😍
Good Vid, but your voice is like you don’t enjoy what you’re doing😊
Choke Talker!!
Love ur vidéo but stop vocal fry like that pls.....
promise you I'm not doing it on purpose....
Yeah I agree, I’m pretty sure it was a good video but I had to skip this one
@@FaizalWestcott you don’t need to worry about that. It’s not a problem :)
I kinda unsubscribed bc of that, I can’t bear it

Fuji users tends to over dramatize their camera settings lens and camera type way too much, too much focused on the gear instead of photography itself.
Quite the opposite, usually.
That's a big ass generalization my dude
Is it opposites day?
I wouldn't call this video over dramatizing, but you could say that about any user of any brand. Such a tired take.
@@Rumplestiltskin7 There are tones of videos outthere in regards to the subject matter.
Why do you speak with a grilled voice ? Actually nobody talk like that, it's an affectation of the voice used by annoying teenagers and rich people. Why ?
