- Hi and thanks for watching my review of the latest aero offering from Cervélo in the shape of this stunning S5 disc, any questions just fire away and I will do my best to answer them all,
If you would like to see more pics of the bike with different wheels on etc then check my Instagram page out @richiemoores2405
The Cervelo S5 is available through peakcyclesport... and just ask to speak to Andy, mention that you’ve seen this review and are after a good deal 🤣👌🏻
The bikes spec is as follows:
Size 51cm
120mm stem
71cm saddle height
Assioma UNO power meter Pedals
Weight 7.6kg with MAVIC Comete 64mm Wheelset
Weights 7.2kg with ENVE 3.4 Wheelset
Full Dura ace 9170 di2 except for Sram Disc Rotors (just prefer the look aesthetically)
Hello Richie, I also ride a Cervelo S5 disc, frame size 56, I build the bike by myself, I only bought the frameset.
Assembled with Dura ace 9170 groupset and ENVE 5.6 wheel set, Fizik saddle.
You can easily solve the creaking sound from the steering head by tightening the 3 bolts of the aluminium fork topper
not with according to Cervelo, 10 Nm but tightening with 12/13 Nm. The creaking sound is then definitely gone.
Also the central Pre load Cone fixing screw for the steering head bearings must be properly tightened.
I received this information through my Cervelo dealer and did it this way with my bike, I have since cycled about
3000 km and there is no cracking sound anymore.
Hopefully this experience can help you but also other S5 owners.
Regards, Theo, Netherlands.
Theo van de Hei awesome info Theo, I will definitely try this mate, enjoy your S5 ✌🏻👌🏻👍🏻
how are those wheels holding up, love the look. thinking about buying them. Does the etching on the rim scratch off? or has rock chips scratched some of the tour de france print off? Would you consider paint protecting over the rims to preserve them from scruffs and curbs? Just curious because of the printing on them
Jashan Sandhu Hi Jashan, the wheels are holding up great, to get the TDF print off you would really have to rub at it with some chemicals, these have been washed a lot and cover around 12k and still look great to be honest 👍🏻
Cracking video Richie. Very honest and informative as well as some breathtaking footage of your rides! . I’m very happy to see you on this platform, you look like a natural. I’ll be keeping my eye out for future videos and I’ll be sure to spread the word about the channel 😁👍🏼 just subscribed so I don’t miss the next one. All the best Richie.
The next one will be more up your street pal featuring a certain R3 Disc 👌🏻
Re "creaking" - I'd suspect in the build the hydraulic brake cable was inserted into the adjacent hole for gearing cables. This happened on my build of this bike, easy mistake to make given the manual has to be read up side down and the cables cannot be swapped (brake v gears), as I learned.
Hi Gav, thanks for that mate, I will take a look later today 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What size tyres did you run? Thinking perhaps 25s? Do you think 28s would over come some of the issues you described and improve comfort?
Miles Earl hi Miles, I was running 25’s 👍🏻 and I’m sure if 28’s will go on they’d definitely improve the ride for sure, I’m currently riding the new emonda and it’s crazy stiff for a climbing bike, and I’ve actually been looking at 28 tubeless tyres today for this 👍🏻
Could you tell me how the bike feels while climbing, especially out the saddle efforts when you're putting some power down. You said while sprinting it feels stiff and responsive, so I assume it will be while climbing?
I have the previous gen 2016, I love the bike, but under power I feel there's a bit of flex and just doesn't feel that responsive when i'm out the saddle climbing.
I'm looking for a new bike and I was edging towards a climbing frame to get the stiffness I want, maybe a factor 02... but if the new S5 has addressed the issues I've mentioned I'd be tempted to get one.
I
Hi David, this bike is definitely a different bike to the previous Gen, I had raced on the preuGen and wasn’t really impressed to be honest but this new S5 is completely different and stiff as a board, but I would say if you are going to be looking at climbing more then I’d definitely do for a comfier ride that’s all going to climb better like a sl6 tarmac, new Evo supersix, etc just amazing all rounders those two and the best I’ve ever ridden to be honest with you
@@richiesridingreviews7964 thanks for the quick reply.
Well I do most of my riding in the peak district, and as you know it has a bit of everything, there's no real long climbs, just lots of short punchy ones in most places. It is an all rounder I'm after, I've considered the SL6 but with the SL7 just around the corner I'm tempted to hang on and see what they've done with that, I've seen a few pictures online and it looks like that will be slightly more aero.
I've never had a problem with comfort on this S5, even in an aggressive position, so the new one shouldn't be a problem.
I think I need to try and demo the bike first and see what i think
hello all, I have been away from cycling for a number of years but try and keep an eye on the latest frames. have seen a lot of companies are moving away from press fit BB. any thoughts if Cervelo will go back to threaded?
thank you for your thoughts and time
Good Question, I know Trek and Specialized have just done it so I’m sure it’s only a matter of time that Cervelo will follow 👍🏻
@@richiesridingreviews7964 thank you for your input. im guessing your up on a lot of the tech. would you be able to tell me are they finding the press to not be as good? what are the big issues they are trying to resolve by going back to threaded?
Sean Melvin the only reason why I know that trek moved back to it was the years of requests by Trek Segafredo mechanics, they are so much easier to work on, you do get a slight weight penalty with a threaded BB but the positives easily outweigh that 👍🏻,
Many people said buy all-rounded bike for rolling on flat and climb, than aero bike. What do you think ?
I’d agree, these are great bikes but if you with be doing a lot of climbing there are better all round bikes, but if you ride more on the flat then this is a great option 👍🏻
Hi nice review. Out of interest what rotors do you run on those wheels? Any reason why you don’t run shimano?
just got mines and love it and doing the 1X on it as we speak
Hallo Dear. I want to order the same frameset 51. About the creaking did you find any solution.? That's is what I worry... Please let me know. Tomorrow I will make the order.
Such a gorgeous bike..💪I look foward to buy S5 this year 🎁🚴♂️🚴♀️😁
Secret Millionaire thanks, you won’t regret it 👍🏻
Hello mate are you riding a size 51? I found a good deal of a size 51 s5 i dont know if it fits me.. Im 176 cm in height
Hi Keith, I’m 173 so I’d say you would need a 54 or maybe even a 56? I’m afraid mate
@@richiesridingreviews7964 thanks for the info mate it helps me a lot.
i think it is depend on your inseam height too, i am 176 cm but my inseam is only 80,5 and i use 51
@@dennis2559 did you bought the bike? Which size did you choose? I'm asking because I'm also 1,76m tall and my inseam is also 80,5cm... :-)
Bruno Bastos da Silva yea i bought the bike, i go with size 51 mate, and it is fine for me, i have quite high seatpost with slammed stem, look quite like pro cyclist😅 if you have longer reach, maybe you can buy longer stem, i personally only use 10cm stem.
Great video, interested to know how tall you’re and what size you bought? I have heard that because of the extended reach of the bike people are downsizing or struggling to get one to fit.
Ben Dobson hi Ben, I’m 5,8” or 173cm and mine is a 51cm, hope this helps mate 👍🏻
@@richiesridingreviews7964 could you specify your inseam as well? the saddle seems in a high position, what is your BB to saddle?
Mavics tour de france edition on this bike f.... love it !!! OMG beautiful ride ! my dream bike
Peter Glowacki arrrrr cheers mate 👌🏻👍🏻
Where are you? what is the name of this moutains? :)
maly hejterek this was in Gran Canaria 👌🏻
Anyone got the Di2? Trying to see if it’s worth the price vs regular
Great review, I've just bought the Ultegra di2 version and am really looking forward to my first ride on it. I wish this review was available when I was shopping around! Disappointed to hear about the bouncing rear end, hopefully my combination of being a bit larger than you are and making less watts than you do will keep me from lifting off.
Did you use the standard saddle? I know it's a bit specific but i'd love to know how you found the prologo.
Hi Jack,
I do use the original prologo saddle mate and really get in with it, it’s the only saddle I haven’t swapped for an s-works power saddle in 3 years tbh 👍🏻,
I think the bouncing effect has a lot to do with the size of the bike and the tubing profile, what size bike have you gone for?
56cm, I'm 181cm and 76kg, with a slightly longer inseam. My saddle height is 77cm to BB. A 54 would have been too much of an agressive position. 56 seems more natural for how I like to sit.
Interesting you mention the Sworks power as I've got one on the way in the post for the bike, good to know you find the Prologo similar as the standard one on this will make it's way onto another build if it's comfortable.
Thanks for the response, I've subbed and looking forward to your next vids.
jackriley1989 I honestly think that’ll be a perfect bike mate, reason being specialized change there tubing profile sizes from a 56 to a 52 and the tubes are much thinner on a 52 compared to a 56 or 58 etc, this makes the bike in a 52 handle exactly as it should compared to a 56 or 58 etc where a lot of other manufacturers do do this as there is obviously huge cost implications,
Let me know how you get on with it mate 👍🏻👌🏻
@@jackriley1989 how are you liking yours! Thinking of picking one up
rui teixeira I was in a position where I was ae to. Mine for a profit. It was a great bike, quite agressive, but I don't really miss it. went for something a little more all-round to use in all situations
Music / Track name ? Nice bike
Hi mate, I have no idea, I just picked it from GoPro’s video making saftware 👍🏻
I’ve got about 5000 mi on mine, and I’m surprised to hear about your experience with regard to the bike not being very comfy. I’m curious what size tires you’re running, as I know the Mavic’s are narrower internally than many others.
I’m setup on Enve 4.5AR ‘s (25 mm internal) tubed with Conti GP5000. Tires blow up to aprox 30 mm at 80psi. Ive had it over cobbles, gravel, smooth tarmac and everything (from Paris to Monaco) and all over Southern CA and it’s been an absolute pleasure. Only thing I wish is I could get the weight down a bit.
Ryon Beachner hi Ryon, the tyres are 25 tubeless run at low pressure, I’ve ran the bike a lot with ENVE 3.4’s also, it’s a great bike but the best bike I’ve ever owned was the s-works tarmac sl6 so naturally I compare everything to this which is the (do it all bike for me) I know this wasn’t designed to be in that category and I feel you can tell that with just a harsher ride you get from the S5 but on a smooth flat road the S5 is unbelievable, 👍🏻
Richie's Riding Reviews Horses for courses. 😉
@@richiesridingreviews7964 how is the bb stiffness of the sl6 when compares to the s5?
Are there any differences between the 2019 and the 2020 S5?
rkw junior 2 completely different bikes in my opinion, I though the previous S5 to this was the harshest ride I’d ever had on a bike and could t understand how people could enjoy riding that bike but this new S5 still super stiff but a much better all round bike and comfier to ride imo 👍🏻
I rode the cervelo s5 2014 and could decend like a beast with no fear, I switched to specialized and rode both 2019 venge and tarmac and I just can’t descend the way the cervelo did as I feel twitchy on steep descends and I have tried many things...I just hope this handles as well as their previous models?
victor chatue this handles amazing on fast descents and hairpin corners, you will love it, if you loved the old one this will blow you away mate👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Richie's Riding Reviews thank so much for the feedback, looking forward to riding it this weekend for the first time. Will update you on what I think descending. I love the bike
