    The bar and stem is clean and uncluttered. It's a must see in person. Form following function. The engineering to specifically dial in angles that will not kink the cables was worth seeing up close. Thanks for the video but would caution you trusting your Wahoo to the Garmin cleat as they are different and it might be a matter of time when the material tolerances will not hold. We engineer our cleats to the specs each GPS company sends us for their unit to fit securely in any of the Bar Fly Bike mounts we design. Cervelo chose to be Garmin specific but we sell a line of mounts, the Barfly 4 which comes with a full set of cleats and accessories. You can purchase an aftermarket set of the same GPS specific compatible cleats on our website to go with the Cervelo Bar Fly Bike Spoon that comes with the S5.

    Nice review and great to see an S5 review with spacers fitted, it obviously doesn’t look as good as slammed but not everyone can run a slammed position. It looks to have 2cm of spacers fitted and that’s what I would probably have to run if I got a size 58cm.

    Hey Todd, I ride a TCR Advanced Pro, I am considering this bike but my concern is going from a “race” bike to an “aero” bike. My main concern is comfort. How do you compare these two bikes on that regard?

    • @toddsapio2661
      @toddsapio2661  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% honesty, I'm more comfortable on the S5 and I'll tell you why. The TCR is comfortable and I've done a few centuries on it, but the geometry is way different on the S5. On the TCR you sit a lot farther back from the bottom bracket and on the S5 you're more on top of it, which coming from a time trial setup for a long time, I'm more comfortable in over longer periods. If you have the right saddle, the S5 is more comfortable. Like I said in the video however, I feel the road more on the S5, but after nearly a month on it, I know it's due to the 25s I have on it as opposed to the 28s on my TCR. That's a personal opinion though. Still love my TCR so much I didn't sell it. I'd suggest riding it a few times obviously. Hope that helps.

      Todd Sapio awesome, thanks for your quick reply. Actually, about the saddle, I’m going to go with the Fizik Aliante. My wife rides a Dogma F10 and she rides with this saddle, it’s amazingly comfortable

    Congratulations! And thanks for the thorough review. I looked at this at my bike shop this past weekend, it is a great looking bike. I am debating getting this. I have an R3 (which is terrific and more comfortable than an Aero), how do the two compare in your opinion?

    • @toddsapio2661
      @toddsapio2661  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anand Rajaram well they really don’t compare too much. R3 is an awesome bike and pretty racey too actually. I have more experience with the R5. I’d say this bike is faster on the flats and descents and anything up to about 4-5%. R3 is lighter for sure and better for climbs but honestly... not as fun. 😎

    How is this bike holding up? I been skeptical of disc breaks and that is what is holding me back. Any trouble with disc breaks? Squeaky or leaky? Thanks!!!

    • @toddsapio2661
      @toddsapio2661  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok so the bike is just as amazing as the day I bought it. More so since I know how to ride it. Ha. Disc brakes are the future and the present honesty. If you’re debating, do it. Perfect braking every time, wet, dry, snow, whatever. That said, I have had some issues with the front calipers leaking which has been annoying. All under warranty though and had them replaced.

    • @toddsapio2661
      @toddsapio2661  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Deniz Rende Anything under 7% this bike hands down. It’s just so fast that the extra 2lbs don’t matter unless it’s either really steep or a longer climb and you’re moving under 10mph or so. If you’re in the mountains the TCR. Especially now that they have disc brake version. I just hated the external cable routing down the fork. Hope that helps.

    This is such a beautiful bike, heard its fast. But turn that fork too far, there's nothing to stop the stop from breaking the frame, fatal design flaw.

    • @toddsapio2661
      @toddsapio2661  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agreed, and yeah that's true. Honestly though, if you need to turn the fork that far and that hard, something's gone horribly wrong anyway and the last thing I'm worried about at that point is my fork, ha.

      Don't know if you follow Luescher Teknik, but he cut a frame open (it had been turned too far in an accident, cracked the steer tube, ruined the frame), and showed a fatal design flaw where they used to put metal stops to prevent that, they've stopped doing it. Otherwise I was seriously considering getting one, because its beautiful!

    nice bike. what is your saddle height from bb to top of saddle?

    • @toddsapio2661
      @toddsapio2661  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's exactly 30in (76cm) to the center of the saddle, where I sit most of the time. 29in to the front part of the saddle. Although I'm going to raise it just a bit, probably 3mm or so.

    • @toddsapio2661
      @toddsapio2661  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just raised it 2 more cm so it's 78cmnow from bottom bracket to top of the center of the saddle. Feels much better. I like reaching a bit more since I come from a TT background.

  • @Timtimzi
    @Timtimzi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been regularly checking for more reviews of this bike. What caught my attention was how heavy the bike was. 17.5lbs = 7.9kg . That's heavy as sh**. That's as heavy as my retired Venge Vias. It would be nicer if modern aerobikes were light like the Pinarello or Venge 2019. I'm looking for a second bike to ride and race with, but I'm having a hard time convincing myself with this one.

    • @toddsapio2661
      @toddsapio2661  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      timtimzi ni Agreed, lighter would be nicer but in all honestly it doesn’t feel heavy to ride or climb with and the new 2019 Venge is maybe 400g lighter at most. I rode it as well and it isn’t as comfortable or responsive as the S5. Plus I think this bike looks better. Really, at the end of the day if you’re looking for a faster bike 400g doesn’t matter unless you’re climbing pretty steep hills. In which case, you may as well go with the Cannondale superSix Evo and call it a day. In most other cases just hit the loo before your ride. ☺️

    • @Timtimzi
      @Timtimzi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Todd Sapio I honestly agree. I love the look of the s5 a little more than the Venge 2019. Heck, you can put a baguette in the middle of the stem and go jousting. I live in California, and most of our rides have a combination of hills and flats. It’s not hard to do 5000 ft of climbing in a weekend ride. It’s a shame that Cervelo didn’t implement weight savings to what is supposed to be the fastest aero bike out there right now .
      Just to compare, the Venge 2019 is about 7.4kg while the Cervelo is 7.9kg. These numbers can change with what type of wheels you out on them. Getting rid and upgrading my old vias was a pain to do as everyone was a weight weenie.
      In response to your Cannondale comment, I don’t find their bikes as attractive looking. The design has been unchanged for so long. It’s a pure climbing bike and that’s it, no thoughts implemented into aerodynamics (dropped seat stays, tubing, etc) . the tarmac sl6 does this slightly better.
      Glad to hear you are enjoying the new ride and congrats !

    • @toddsapio2661
      @toddsapio2661  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with everything you said. I just said Cannondale because they're super light but the R5 is awesome and the Canyon Ultimate Evo is too... and beautiful. Purely climbing bikes though. And all the testing I've seen and dug up has shown that aerodynamics play a bigger role than most think at speeds as low as 10mph so with that in mind I decided to watch my diet a bit more and go for the heavier, yet faster, choice. I was going to sell my TCR but I might just keep her... still love how she climbs. :)

It is an exact replica of the one used in TDF so it has full ceramic speed, enve 4.5 and the special low weight paint :) Love it jeje... but but again I wish cervelo could lower the weight of the new S5 in the near future.
