- Hi and thanks for watching my review of the R3 Disc from Cervelo, if you would like to see more pics of the bike with different wheels on etc then check my Instagram page out @richiemoores2405
The Cervelo R3 Disc is available through peakcyclesport... and just ask to speak to Andy, mention that you’ve seen this review and are after a good deal 🤣👌🏻
The spec of the bike is as follows
Size 51cm
ENVE aero 120mm stem
Sram etap HRD
Wheels, DT swiss/ENVE 3.4/MAVIC
Weight is 7.08kg with the ENVE’s on
Any questions just fire away 👍🏻
Hey Richie, I’m a 51 also😃. Happy to Take if off your hands when you’re sick of it. I ride an R2. Relatively new to cycling and I’m loving the bike. Maybe R3 next. Thanks, great review.
ddavanzo Hi mate, that’s great and I’ll definitely bare you in mind when it does come up for sale, thanks for the comment 🙏🏻 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice review. I'm looking at getting R3. Have owned S2 and currently on Canyon Endurace. The R3 seems to be a good allrounder.
Hello Richie, I am looking at a 2015 Cervelo R3, comes with Shimano di2 and a lot of other nice gear, , it'e been fully resprayed and looks great, I'm going to see it on Saturday, just wondered what you think, I'm still cycling at 78 :)
That’s great mate, I’m sure you will love the bike and I hope I’m still riding at 78 🙌🙌🙌
Another cracking review mate. It’s great to hear that the bike performs as good as it looks 👍🏼 can you get me some of those tyres please? 😂🤪
Hey Richie nice review. I’m reaching to out to a seller for 2019 R3 Di2 with Novatec 35 Carbon wheel set for $3100. You think it’ll be worth it? Or should I negotiate?
Great review, I’m building one right now no components yet. Love to get pair of that schwalbe pro one with skin sidewall seems like a unicorn tire.
Yes, I’ve had a lot of parole ask about, I still can’t believe they haven’t released them to the masses yet, enjoy the bike 👍🏻
Hi. Very good review. Which sram red crank typ is installed? GXP, BB30, B386 with the BBright standard? kind regards from germany
Hi, it’s a gxp with a Kogel ceramic BB that has a built in converter
Loving my R3. Getting a rubbing squeak when climbing though. Someone said it may be a dry membrane in the hub?
Hi mate, this may sound mad but take the stem off, take the headset bearings out clean inside the frame with a cloth, regrease both the frame pockets and the bearings and I think this will be your issue, I recently had it an thought that it would be the BB as it was only creaking when putting more power through more so when stood up climbing but this was because you have more weight on the bars and the bearings in the headset were bone dry and there was grit and sand in there causing the creeking through the carbon frame
Richie's Riding Reviews thanks for your reply. I’ll check that out.
Had them pull the hub on the first month warranty check and they added some grease on the front and it was all good. Replaced the 11-26 with an 11-32 cassette. Much better on the climbs now.
what do you think of the rat-t thru axles i have an r3 disc aswell and i find them kinda hard to lock them in the frame
Cédric Driver I know what you mean, there is a certain nack to it, at first I found them a bit awkward but I’ve got used to them now and as long as the arrows are on top when you slot it in I find it’s really good and quick now 👍🏻
I've recently changed mine to a normal thru axles, lightweight one from J&L (around 26g). However the inserts are pretty expensive for what they are (£30). The reason i changed it is because I found the RAT axles A) heavy B) doesn't actually lock properly when i stick it on the Wahoo trainer and rock when i put the power down, probably because the main contact point is much smaller than normal thru axles.
Do you think it will be able to run 1x? I'm thinking a 42 - 11-40 but not sure if the chain line will be too wide..
Fastest milkman hi mate, I honestly have no experience with 1 x, sorry to be of no help but good luck with the build 👍🏻
@@richiesridingreviews7964 No worries, it is a bit of a strange question anyway. Thanks for replying though!
Hi Richie, great review. I have the same bike and is fantastic, I was wondering how did you manage to remove those white decals from the rims! They are a nightmare. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I just used a paint stripper from a general hardware store, I was worried in case it fetched the black off too but all was good 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Legend! I’ll get some tomorrow. Cheers!
Santiago Quijano no worries mate 👍🏻
Hey man, good review and I appreciate the insights. I’m looking at this frame and we seem to have similar dimensions. The problem is I’ll need to run a 130-140mm stem to replicate my current reach (Canyon Ultimate) and weird dimensions 😂. Any thoughts on whether you think it’ll negatively affect handling? It’s unfortunate that the Cervelo’s all seem to have much shorter reach than other comparable bikes.
Dalton Ho hi Mate, I can’t see a bigger stem having a negative effect on handling, the shorter a stem is the more twitchy and reactive handling can be but to go longer I think would be fine 👌🏻👍🏻
Richie's Riding Reviews awesome. Thanks for the feedback!
Hi Ritchie, That was a fantastic review! I am considering the purchase of the R3 as well and was wondering, when you mentioned that you found the R3 a little sluggish compared to the R5, how much of that would likely be attributable to the stock DT Swiss wheelset vs the frame's different carbon layup? I guess I am just really curious how close the R3 would be in performance to the R5 with a top end set of wheels and tires? Thanks, much appreciated!
Andrew Goldsmith hi Andrew, definitely that, when this R3 has the ENVE wheels or Mavic cosmics on you would really struggle to tell that you are not on an R5, that’s why I think it’s a better buy really 👍🏻👍🏻
@@richiesridingreviews7964 Awesome news, I think you just convinced me! Found a new set of DT Swiss dicut 47 ERC 1100 at a great price that I'm thinking could mate up nicely. Thanks again, tremendously appreciated!
Andrew Goldsmith great choice, as the DT swiss hubs are my favourite, 240’s in particular, bomb proof and so easy to work on if needed 👍🏻👌🏻, let me know how you get on Andrew 👍🏻
@@richiesridingreviews7964 Will do, thanks again!
Hi mate great video. I am thinking of getting r5 or canondale systemsix mod. Seen this r3 at a great price. Thinking of this now. I am. 5ft5... You reckon 51cm cervelo r3 frame would be my fit?
Hi Mate, I’m 5,8” and the saddle height is 71.5cm on that r3 from centre of bb to top of the saddle if that helps, 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice bike I just got mine it’s an oldie now but
What’s the handle bar you have ? And how deep is your wheels
Thanks I’m advanced
Hi, the wheels are Enve 3.4 and I’m afraid I can’t remember what handlebars I had on this 👍, the stem is an enve aero 120mm, hope that this helps 👍
@@richiesridingreviews7964 what about the wheels?
hi mate great video review and sick setup! im looking at purchasing a 2018 R3D but am torn between a 51 and 54. Im 172 with an inseam of about 79cm. which do you reckon i go for? Id prefer more of an upright position for long rides, I dont race and (dont necessarily ride too fast either haha!). What's your height? thanks in advance, cheers.
Muhammad Ahmad Magad Hi Mate, I’m 173cm and it’s a 51, Cervelo, Specialized, Trek all recommend a 54 for me but I just prefer more seatpost out and longer stem with a smaller bike underneath me, hope this helps 👍🏻
Great review. Currently riding a Roubaix but looking to upgrade. Looking for a good all-rounder: anything from century rides, to races, to climbing, and just some weekend miles with the mates. Torn between the R3 and Scott Addict RC 20. Which would you go for and why?
Brian Cole Hi Brian, I’ve rode both and they are both fantastic bikes but I’d honestly go for the Addict as it’s brand new and I’m sure there will be a new R3 in the next 12/18 months probably with dropped seatstays (like the addict, tarmac, supersix etc) 👍🏻 also the new supersix from cannondale is an unbelievable bike ?
Richie's Riding Reviews appreciate the quick response! I’ve also had my eye on the Supersix - looks like a heck of a machine. As I am transitioning from more of an endurance frame when compared to the R3/Addict/Supersix, do you think the “comfort” will be very different?
Brian Cole it’s just all about getting that position dialled in with a road bike, obviously an endurance bike with bigger tyres and slacker geometry will be comfier but these road bike now are great for soaking up the bumps especially if you are going to run tubeless tyres which I’d definitely recommend Brian 👍🏻
Hi Richie, I have the opportunity to upgrade my 2018 S2 (105 5800) to a 2018 R3 (Ultra R8000) for roughly $600AUD (300 pounds) - what are your thoughts on the differences of the two bikes? Thanks for the review!
C Watts hi Mate, that sounds like a great deal to be fair, to have a better grade of carbon (lighter bike straight away) and the ultegra 8000 groupset is fantastic $600 upgrade seems like a great idea, you won’t go wrong with the R3 it’s a fantastic bike 👍🏻
Please tell me the name of the tires. Thank you in advance.
Schwalbe One pro Tubless 👍🏻
hi rich
i was wondering. i have the same bike as you the cervelo r3 size 48.
it came in 7.4 kg out of the box. is it possible to bring the weight down to uni limits 6.8 ?
can you please give me some tips what i have to upgrade to bring it down to 6.8 uni weight.
thank richie i love this bike to death lol =) i willing to spend the money...
Mike Nguyen Hi Mike, it all depends on how much you want to spend really but the big weight savings can be made with Wheelset and groupset, then stem and handlebars, and finally ceramic bb and headset bearings and saddle?
@@richiesridingreviews7964
Thanks Richie I will upgrade step by step. So far I upgrade the wheels, a set of zipp 303 nsw tubeless. And I change the saddle to prologo dimension cpc nack. So far I drop about 200 gram 😆.
I wil keep going and take my time . I love this r3 and I don't want to buy a new bike. Thanks for the tip 👍 Richie, take. Are bud.
What was your experience like with the carbon wheelset on this bike? Ive been considering adding carbon wheels to mine vs purchasing the S5
Nicholas Archer hi Nicholas, Carbon wheels are always going to make a bike feel better straight away, just the stiffness and light weight will make the bike more responsive and faster depending on the depth of the carbon rim you go for, 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
how tall are you? just so i know how to size myself
.
Hi, I’m 173cm 👍🏻
@@richiesridingreviews7964 thanks we are the same height. So I should look into the same bike size.
by this time, you would have ridden Scott, how does this compare with the Scott Addict?
Chainarong I prefer the look of the Addict and the ride is great tbh and if I had to choose one I’d go with the new addict
Hello hope all is well! I’m 5 feet 7 inches. Is 51 still good or should I have gone 48? Thanks
Hi Francis, I think 51 will still be great 👍
Hi Richie,
Is the R3 an endurance bike? I need a bike with a slightly more relaxed geometry. What do you think?
Hello, it does have a slightly more relaxed geometry but if you are after something that has a bit more endurance comfort then I’d be looking at the new Caledonia from Cervelo, Ttek Domane and specialised Roubaix, hope this helps 👍🏻
@@richiesridingreviews7964 thank you, the Caledonia is too expensive 4 me however the Roubaix is an amazing bike but they don't seem to have any good deals at the moment. What do you think about their shock absorber technology, my hands sometimes go numb after a very long ride.
I think I will have bike fit then decide but when I rode the R3 in Spain, it seemed fine. I might check out the Scott Addict too.
Tochukwu Mkparu the new addict disc is a great bike, I rode one recently for a few months 👍🏻, as for your hands that will definitely be down to your position on the bike, now matter how soft and comfortable the bike is if your setup is off then you will get numb hands, I believe the new roubaix shock absorber technology is much better than in previous versions, if you’ve already rode an R3 and enjoyed the ride then I’d go with that for sure 👍🏻
Hi Richie, Great review and really love the look of your R3. I'm in the market for a new bike and would like something more of a plush, smooth ride that absorb vibration well. I'm considering the R3, BMC SLR02, and Bianchi Oltre XR3. Since they're all known for a smooth ride so I'm wondering if you have the chance to try and how would they compare? Thank you!
7sao Hi Mate, I have rode and raced on a BMC SLR01 which I didn’t like tbh with you, felt there was way too much flex in the handlebars, I’ve since heard they had a recall on the steerer tubes for them failing which makes some sense, never rode an xr3, but the tarmac sl6 is amazing as is the new supersix from cannondale for a do it all bike 👍🏻
@@richiesridingreviews7964 how does R3 compare with the new supersix? especially on a longer ride. Thank you!
7sao both great but if I was in the market I’d go for the supersix as it’s a brand new design and I’m sure a new r5 and r3 will be out in the next 12 months so this r3 will be dated?
Have you ever compared R3 to S3?? I'm thinking on purchasing one of them
wirya saputra Hi, unfortunately I have never rode the S3 but all I would say is, if you are going to be riding more on the flat then S3 if you want a more all round bike then the R3 👍🏻👍🏻
this is an awesome looking r3 b. I really likes the stem look, what is the modle of your stem call , and where can I buy this stem brother ?
Mike Nguyen hi Mike, cheers dude it’s and ENVE aero stem, you should be able to find it at lots of retailers online brother 👌🏻👍🏻
thanks brother, I found it in my local bike shop now. thanks a lot brother take care.
Mike Nguyen no worries man, take care mate 👍🏻
Good review mate and totally agree with the R5’s low headtube. Its even lower than SS hi mod. Im considering this bike but also the R2 . I have some nice parts laying around so if I get the R2 I will immidiatly upgrade everything. However, Im concerned about the ride quality since the R2 has a different carbon layout than the R3. Whats your opinion on this!? Thanx a lot!
Stavros Ahimastos hi Stavropol, having never rode the R2 I couldn’t comment but I’m sure it’s a great bike too mate 👍🏻👍🏻
R2 frame is the exactly the same as R3 - the difference is the forks and 105 components. The ‘mud - R2’ fork was developed specially for Paris Roubaix - it is more robust with wider tyre clearance and is 100grams or so heavier than the R3 forks. I guess Cervelo wanted a product at a lower price point. 🤷🏽♂️
I bought an R2 and spent the savings on a Dura ace 9100 wheelset. One of my better life decisions.😁
in climbing were difference with s5 disc?
Franco Orpelli hi, there is not much in it to be honest, I think it’s more psychological that the R3 may feel slightly better climbing with having the thinner tubing profile but as for weight and feel there is not much difference at all, hope this helps
Richie's Riding Reviews So what bike would do you prefer the S5 or R3? I am surprised to hear you say the S5 can climb decently.
what saddle height are you running?
Josh Davis hi Josh, it’s at 71cm 👍🏻
@@richiesridingreviews7964 hello ! Can you please share your inseam and height , thanks !
@@aviationworld6029 hi, don’t know my inside leg but I’m 173cm’s tall and the saddle height is set at 71cm 👍🏻
