  • After less than 2 years and 21k miles the front passenger Fox 2.5” DCS shocks was seeping a bit of oil. We were planning to revalve all four shocks and decided to rebuild them at the same time. The shocks were purchased through AccutuneOffroad.com. They provide custom shock valving for your application. Plus, they will revalve the shocks FREE (one time) if the shocks need further tuning.
    In our case, the shocks worked perfectly while loaded with the adjusters turned up 2 clicks. However, the ride was a bit firm when unloaded and the adjusters turned to zero. I wanted to slightly reduce the valving to allow a more compliant ride unloaded with the same performance while loaded with the adjusters turned up.
    Here’s the rebuild process:
    1 - Remove Shocks (2 hrs)
    2 - Box & Ship Shocks to AccuTune
    3 - Wait... (estimated 4 weeks - our turn around was 1 week)
    4 - Install Shocks (2hrs)
    All Performance Shocks (including King, Icon, Radflo) are rebuildable which is great considering they cost $650+ per shock. However, our basic rebuild cost was $160/shock (including shipping) plus we had to wait for them to be rebuilt.
    I’ve considered buying a second set of FOX shocks to avoid “down time” waiting for the rebuild. But that is an expensive option! Instead I purchased a cheap set of ProComp shocks (proper length) that could be used during the rebuild. You can’t beat the performance FOX shocks offer but they are spendy!
    Information that is covered in this video:
    00:32 - How long do they last?
    01:46 - AccuTune Tuning
    02:15 - How long does it take?
    02:40 - Temporary shocks
    03:57 - How much does it cost?
    05:32 - Shock Tips
    07:45 - Is it worth rebuilding?
    09:05 - Install tricks
    10:16 - Fox ATS Stabilizer Drop Mount
    12:45 - Conclusion
    Here’s the FOX ATS Steering Stabilizer mount drop info:
    The Part# for the stabilizer hasn’t changed - We made a change to the hardware kit to include the reducer/spacer and longer bolt. If a customer is ordering a new stabilizer its already included and if a customer already has the stabilizer and needs the hardware we have been supplying no charge. I’ve listed the spacer, bolt and washer #’s below if you need it.
    Reducer - 213-01-586
    Washer - 018-05-065
    Bolt - 018-04-057

    @Truck Camper i ordered my Fox ATS and recieved it today. No reducer/adapter to compensate for the lift.
    I'll have to call Fox tomorow and see if they have it in stock.

      @@TruckCamper ok so i bought the stabilizer through Stage 3 Motorsports and once i informed them of what happened they communicated with Fox.
      Apparently this is a pretty common issue lately.
      Anyways they sent me an RMA and a return label. I have to return the whole thing and they'll send me another stabilizer with all the hardware included.
      Seems like a waste of resources but they said they dont have the hardware packs as a seperate part. Oh well...they were very courteous and profesional.
      I was just hoping to try out the stabilizer this weekend..lol

    Thanks for sharing. Curious why you run an ATS stabilizer along with what looks like another on the tie rod? I really would like to upgrade to those Fox or the 3 shocks but they're not cheap.

      Check out our other build videos... We have a PSC hydro assist steering ram. This gives massive steering assist to help turn the 37s - especially off road and 4wd low with the front OX locker engaged. We have lots of off road videos to show it in action.
      ATS steering stabilizer is fully adjustable to dial in the steering feel you desire. Plus, it acts similar to dual stabilizers but in 1 unit. And I love that it mounts up high in the factory location. Worth the money.

    Been wonderin' where you guys were....I have a rig similar to yours and considered these same shocks but the rebuild every 20-50K (as stated by FOX) was a buzzkill. So I swapped out the stock ones for Bilstein 5100s and they work quite well. Bummer you had to sink this cash into these things so quickly...but the way to run your rig I'd say you have little choice unless you were to switch to ICON?...The guy at Accutune told me that FOX are far superior to King shocks. If any of these performance shocks were good for at least 40,000 miles I buy them without thinking twice. If you come back within another two years with another blowout then FOX is off the list for sure. I may upgrade to these big boys...but I'm biding my time to see how guys like you fare, right?

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah... It's the busy time of year! Lots of projects. The shock rebuild interval has massive variance for sure! My Icon coilovers blew out at 30k miles. That's when I discovered that covering the shock was essential. They were getting rather "sandbasted" from all the winter mountain driving. I've heard that many people achieving 50k from their performance shocks online. So it comes down to usage... It would be nice to get 2+yrs from this rebuild (will see). But... Can't beat these shocks off road! We drove through a big wash last night and it felt like butter. At the same speed in our (stock) Tacoma it bottoms out several times and bounces all over. LOVE THESE SHOCKS!

    Another Great Video.
    What setting have you found is best for the ATS stabilizer?
    Do you ever change it, or once you found the sweet spot, just leave it for all driving conditions?

      Thanks! It's set about 60% up. Forget the exact click count. Plenty effective there. Set and forget about it. Easy. :)

    I assume you bought these for the performance off-road but does the ride quality on-road improve, esp. when empty? I have an early 2021 F250 with tow package which gets me the beefier leaf pack and axle (if I’m not mistaken). The thing is it rides like a damn tank empty (expected this a bit) but not to this extent. On a certain stretch of concrete highway it’s bounces us to no end. No open drinks unless you want a wet console. So I’ve been considering if a shock upgrade would counter or improve the stiff leafs and provide better dampening so the ass end isn’t bouncing at every expansion joint we cross or if I should look at replacing the leafs with a progressive pack.

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Ride is improved everywhere. Most impressive is off road and rough roads. You will want a progressive leaf pack and progressive front coil springs with the shocks. The factory springs are incredibly thick and non-compliant. Our truck suspension can haul more than an F350 but rides better (even on road). Talk with the guys at Carli suspension.

    How much were the Fox shocks to buy new and install? Also, is that a plywood panel to protect the front of the truck bed? I’d be interested in seeing what you did if you haven’t shown that previously. I already dented mine. I always try to check the jack’s tension before a trip but it wasn’t enough. Thanks!

    • @TruckCamper

      FOX new cost was ~ $650/shock. We have a 21 gallon fuel tank on the front of the bed. You can see it at the end of this video... th-cam.com/video/9irXoew6OT0/w-d-xo.html

    Fox shocks suck bad. All 4 of mine started leaking right at 2 yrs. Literally all 4 and only about 25k miles, front adjustable reservoir and rear 2.0's. Pulled all my Fox's and went with Bilstein with a lifetime warranty and the ride is the same. Sorry but Fox's just aren't worth the headache and cost to rebuild over and over.

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is all part of the performance shock world. I've found that shock boots can help. We need the extra shock size and valving for on/off road handling with the Truck Camper. It is worth the inconvenience and cost for our application. However, for a rig mostly on road without carrying tall/heavy loads you're probably right. You'd be amazed at how much the ride improves with progressive leaf springs and front coil springs. And really you need to replace the springs and tune the FOX shocks to enjoy the full benefits. Otherwise, off the shelf shocks are a great option for cost and durability. Thanks for sharing your experience. It's definitely something to consider before throwing down a bunch of cash.
